At #TheCabinLA for the residency show of #VojtechKovarik. A tone of Ancient Greece reminded me much of the work of artists #LouFratino and #CarrollDunham, but with more of a sculptural presence. These works pretend to be portraiture but take on every bit of semi-3-D personality. Especially with the purple subject acting as if he’s pasted up against the glass. Got a special walkthrough at #TheCabinLA for #AmoakoBoafo’s (@amoakoboafo) residency. Love the visual connection he has with the subjects in his work and how he touches the skin with his own hands through his finger painting techniques. The boldness in color allows a personality to illuminate from each work engaging the viewer in a silent conversation. The eyes of the subjects look directly at you (or through you) providing a reciprocal analysis through the portraiture.
