I finished The Bromeliad Trilogy by Terry Pratchett. Pratchett is still one of my favourite authors of all time! I’m fairly sure I read the first two books of this trilogy (Truckers and Diggers) when I was in secondary school but I have no recollection of reading the last (Wings), I fancied a cosy read so I immediately reached for this book. The trilogy follows a group of “Nomes” who are originally from another world that now live amongst humans. Upon discovering their origin, they go on a quest to return to their home. These stories are typical of Pratchett. Whilst spinning a fantastic children’s yarn about “Nomes” on an adventure he slips in many real-world and adult issues that the characters have to deal with. This is something that all the great children’s books do, but something that Pratchett does particularly well. When presenting topics like Feminism and the wrongness of lessening women’s capabilities by society, Pratchett works it into the story so naturally and adeptly. The “Nomes” deal with vast societal changes in these stories and the characters reactions are superbly portrayed. It’s true of any change in the real world that people will have varying reactions and even varying levels of acceptance. The Bromeliad Trilogy shows these reactions to be, not implicitly bad or good, but simply a normal reaction to anything that anyone could have given their life experiences. Pratchett doesn’t hand-wave away dogma, however, but instead shows that anyone can come to a realisation that society has changed past what they knew previously in their life. He argues that they can either contextualise their beliefs within what society has now become and open themselves up to new experiences or hold on dogmatically to their previous opinions and be left behind. Trust me though, the book isn’t as heavy as all that. It’s still a very witty and enjoyable book aimed at younger readers! #books #bookstagram #terrypratchett #thebromeliadtrilogy #sirpterry #gnuterrypratchett https://www.instagram.com/p/CiFmQDmsi0a/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

This is definitely building up to be a #PratchettYear for me (if it isn't so obvious) since I started Discworld last January. And now, there is no Discworld on my shelf left unturned. Finished I Shall Wear Midnight last night. :/ I'm sorry for those who caught me at this interesting time in my #IG days when all I post is Pratchett and you haven't read any of his masterwork. In that case take pity on yourself and read one. haha I'm not so sorry at all by the way. Heard a lot of good things about The Bromeliad Trilogy so here we go! #books #bookporn #instabook #bookstagram #Discworld #terrypratchett #gnuterrypratchett #thebromeliadtrilogy
