My Random Analysis about Muteki Song Meaning (Part 1)
Part 2 Part 3
Yeah 3 parts because I'm lazy as fuck.
Warning : MANGA SPOILERS, My grammar is bad, My Japanese is also bad, don't trust my analysis perfectly, typos
Oke, soo. Let's analysis the title song first
無敵 (Muteki)
To make this short, it's literally this (I already told you guys I'm not good at grammar and Japanese right?)
Invincible; unrivaled; unrivaled
無 (mu)
From Romanjidesu (English - Japanese dictionary)
(Mu) is clearly means as :
nothing; naught; nought; nil; zero
un-; non-
Meanwhile,
敵 (teki) means as :
opponent; rival; adversary
menace; danger; threat; enemy
So, if we put together, 無敵 (muteki) means Invincible. This honestly makes sense to Sakura's character, he is invincible, he so strong that he almost becomes undefeatable. Wtf am I saying?
Btw, the kanji have another meaning, because you know... hiragana etc.
Back to the topic, and then we go to the first lyrics.
“I'm other half (fragment) like a light I'll protect you”
“I'm invincible My heart hurts so much that it breaks”
This can be interpreted as how Sakura sees Furin, his friends, and the people at Makochi (Furin territory).
From chapter 145 Sakura says “It’s because of them… that I started wanting… to be here. It’s warm, it smells so nice. … I’ve never been to a place… where I could stand so easily before. That’s why… I wanted to protect it.”
Sakura wants to protect the fragment of light he has. But, we know that Sakura is invincible, that ‘invincible’ also makes him suffer, it also makes his heart hurt. From what we know (from the anime and the manga) Sakura is always alone before he meets Furin and the others.
From my interpretation, Sakura doesn’t want to be ‘invincible’, he becomes what he is because of the past itselft. Because of the rejection he got, it broke his heart, but he tried to hide it. And so, this makes sense to the next lyrics.
“I don’t want it, don’t come near me, even though you pretend to understand”
“I brushed away the hand you reached out because I’m a devil”
Son, the anime did a good job for showing Nirei in the first part, and then Suo for the next part (I know they also show Tsugeura, but it's not the main point okay).
We know that Nirei always wants to be helpful for Sakura, for showing Sakura the way to the top.
“So, at the very least, I hope that when he’s lost, or when he’s in trouble…I can help him. I… want to be helpful to him! at least a little!” Nirei to Suo at chapter 57.
Nirei and Suo may not know what Sakura's past is, but they don’t pretend to understand. They are confused, yes, but they still want to understand Sakura, and want Sakura to rely on them more.
But, to protect himself, Sakura rejected it. Because he doesn't know how to handle it. This is literally what Suo said to Nirei after visiting sick Sakura.
“If you're given something you don’t know how to use when you’re in bind… it’s just going to make things worse, right?”
“As for Sakura-kun, I don’t think he even knew about smartphones… let alone know how to use one. This also applies… to friendship too, I think.” Suo to Nirei at chapter 57.
Sakura views himself as a ‘devil’ because of what people think he is, what people say about him, once again just because of his appearance. (Why the fuck men). Sakura refuses to admit that he can’t do this alone, he is scared of once again being rejected.
“If you smile for me, even my unbearable past”
“I’ll think it’s all worthless”
“Alone, I crouched down”
“I won’t forget that you pulled out my heart”
At first I’m confused about what these lyrics meant, so I searched for another translation, and I found this.
“As long as you smile for me, I can overcome my shameful past”
“I don’t think everything is worth it”
“Alone, I crouched down”
“I’ll never forget you pulling out my heart”
And I go back to chapter 58, when Sakura asks Kaji how to rely more on his friends. And I found this interesting, in the manga when Sakura monologues about not supposed to care about what the others see about him.
But, all of his classmates are smiling at him (minus Sugishita), they’re seeing Sakura as who he is, and accepting who Sakura is.
Tumblr media
“... not a single one of them… chose… to reject you.” Kaji to Sakura at chapter 59.
Because of that, the ‘shameful or the unbearable past’ manages Sakura to overcome it, even though Sakura thinks it’s all worthless (because once again, he still ‘scared for no reason’ just like what Kaji said to him).
So, when he ‘crouched down alone’ in the darkness, he could never forget everyone who ‘pulled out his heart’. This literally means Sakura who is always alone, scared of being rejected, scared to accept everyone, scared for seeing who they’re, but now he finally can jump out from the tightrope.
(God damn… I’m very happy for this boy :’’’))
Anyway... end of part 1
I want to eat my oranges now
Bye :)

My Random Analysis about Muteki Song Meaning (Part 2)
Part 1 Part 3
We're gonna have a roller coaster of emotions son...
Warning : MANGA SPOILERS, My grammar is bad, My Japanese is also bad, don't trust my analysis perfectly, typos
Before we continue... there are additions from the previous part.
“As long as you smile for me, I can overcome my shameful past”
“I don’t think everything is worth it”
“Alone, I crouched down”
“I’ll never forget you pulling out my heart”
At this lyrics, the ending shows us this :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think my analysis is kinda right but wrong... idk... but from this we know that Sakura finally can go out from the 'shadows'. But anyway... let's get started guys...
“What's behind those eyes? ”
“The heartbeat that makes even my selfish fists cry”
“I don't want to lose, I don't want to hurt you”
“I'll protect you, I'm invincible. My heart hurts so much that it breaks”
This is clearly when Sakura tells his classmates about who he is (in chapter 60, send help pliss). At first, he’s not looking at his friend's eyes, scared, shut his eyes, and questioning what’s behind those eyes.
“The heartbeat that makes even my selfish fists cry”
Ah, yes… this lyrics means how scared Sakura is for jumping out at the tightrope for the first time.
“What if there’s a place… where I can stand freely? Then, I…” Sakura at chapter 60.
Sakura… is always fighting, all that fighting just for proving himself, he has a value that the others don’t or have. But, because of that,  he doesn't understand what friendship means, he even just knew about human body temperature when he shaked hands with Sugishita.
So, when the people in town, Furin, and his classmates are accepting who he is, it makes his “selfish fists cry”. Sakura's motivation for going to the top is just to prove himself is just like Choji. Reach the top of the mountain, and then find nothing but emptiness, and Sakura realizes that.
But, when his classmates are trusting him for becoming the grade captain, his “selfish fists” are “crying”. This is what makes the third and fourth lyrics become more meaningful.
“My body feels light. It’s easy to breathe. I never knew… a place like this existed… this is it. I want to be here.” Sakura at chapter 60.
“It’s because of them… that I started wanting… to be here. It’s warm, it smells so nice. … I’ve never been to a place… where I could stand so easily before. That’s why… I wanted to protect it.” Sakura at chapter 145.
These two monologues have a very deeper connection with the third and fourth lyrics. He wants to protect it, he don't want to lose it, he wants to protect it. (Fuck Endo men…)
And, because of that, “I'm invincible. My heart hurts so much that it breaks” have another new meaning.
Literally, this also has a connection about Endo itself, we know that Endo saw Sakura have the “same colour” as Takiishi. Endo plans to “destroy” Sakura, and Sakura is almost given up, because he doesn’t want to destroy the place who accepts him. He doesn’t want to drag them down, even though he wants to hold on with his two hands, and it hurts his hearts to pieces.
“My tattered heart was distorted and crushed”
“It’s a little bit embarrassing that I can’t understand unless I try to know”
“I was trying to be bossy, and I was talking about a strength I didn't know”
“My tattered heart was distorted and crushed”
Distorted in this lyrics can be seen as “A distorted thought or cognitive distortion — and there are many — is an exaggerated pattern of thought that's not based on facts. It consequently leads you to view things more negatively than they really are.”
This is when Endo fractures Sakura in chapter 144, and makes Sakura give up. Endo makes Sakura think that he is a walking bad luck charm that will harm the others.
“After you’ve lost yourself to pure rage… I’ll inject fear and self-blame into your mind.” Endo at chapter 145.
OR, it’s when society rejects him, society views Sakura as someone who’s negative. ‘an exaggerated pattern of thought that's not based on facts.’Even though we know that Sakura is a very nice guy (his heart is so pure), the society still rejects him. The society just views him based on his looks (once again why?).
We can know this from eps 1, yeah not from the manga, but from the anime. (Good job Cloverwork! From adding this good detail) There's some guy who told Sakura to dye his hair all black. From this, we knew that because of his looks, because of his uniqueness, the society rejected him, and his heart was crushed because of that.
In the end, Sakura's heart is still getting distorted and crushed. (Son, nooo)
“It’s a little bit embarrassing that I can’t understand unless I try to know”
Kotoha and Umemiya realize that Sakura is not given up yet, given up to understand other people, given up to accept people, see them on the face. Sakura… is trying to know, and trying to learn. And Sakura did it, he wanted to understand more about Togame, and he was mad when Choji hit Togame, also he almost went to attack him.
“It’s because you don't give up on others, and you don't have to. But, the least I can do is look at you. That's why… if you look toward us. If you do that surely… you’ll find what you’ve always wanted.” Kotoha to Sakura at chapter 1.2.
“In order to accept someone… you have to lay everything open and face each other. You’re able to do that… and it looks to me that you want to accept others. Once you can do that… you could become whatever you want.” Umemiya to Sakura at chapter 30.
“I was trying to be bossy, and I was talking about a strength I didn't know”
Sakura thinks he can go to the top alone. Thinking that going to the top alone will solve his problem about accepting who he is, but that’s not the answer. Sakura realized this after talking with Ume.
The ‘strength’ this song talks about is the strength to accept others, Sakura doesn't understand this, and this explains from what Ume says to Sakura before. Thinking that he couldn’t reach the top because he never allowed anyone into his life before.
Sakura didn't realize these two important things, accept who he is, and accept the others. Willingly to face them.
“You should talk to them… really look at them… and understand them. Or else, you’ll never really know what a person is like.” Kotoha to Sakura at chapter 2.
“Let me stay here, I want to be here”
“No matter what I do, no matter if I lose”
Sakura never wanted to be alone in the first place. Humans always want to be accepted by others, it’s something that is very important.
“Feeling accepted is a basic psychological need that can have a profound impact on our emotional well-being and mental health. When we feel accepted, we feel valued, supported, and validated, and these positive feelings can have a ripple effect throughout our lives. This is a deep-seated instinct we all have; to be accepted and to belong somewhere.”
This is what Sakura is not able to have, I don’t know if Sakura has good parents or not (but from my theory, no). Sakura wanted to be accepted by the others, but because of his looks, he was not accepted by society, he was left alone. He’s not belong anywhere, until he found Furin, Makochi, and his friends. He feels accepted, he feels valued, supported, and validated by others.
So, when Endo insults his friends, and Furin. Sakura defended his friend and Furin, he was mad, and because of this Endo had a chance to make Sakura give up.
“Don’t you… dare… talk about them!!!” Sakura to Endo at chapter 144.
And this is why these two lyrics have a very deep connection to Sakura, Furin, and the people at the town.
Sakura finds comfort in Furin and Makochi, he finds peace, he finds a place where he belonged to, where he needed, where he was being supported, valued, and the most important thing is Sakura feeled validated or being accepted by others.
“What’s more… they’re such good people… I don’t even know how to handle it. It’s because of them… that I started wanting… to be here. It’s warm, it smells so nice. … I’ve never been to a place… where I could stand so easily before. That’s why… I wanted to protect it.” Sakura at chapter 145.
(I’m not crying… you guys are crying…)
Can we're just agree that Young Kee did a very good job for expressing Sakura's feeling through a song. Like... broh I want to cry now... Next, is the last part of the analysis... preapre more tissue now... .
And... Kotoha and Umemiya sure is a good siblings for Sakura (and Tsubaki, don't forget that too).

My Random Analysis about Muteki Song Meaning (Part 3)
Part 1 Part 2
Finally it's finish... and sorry for the long wait...
Warning : MANGA SPOILERS, My grammar is bad, My Japanese is also bad, don't trust my analysis perfectly, typos
“I can’t even notice beautiful things”
“The clown monster that I was forced to know will try to tame me”
“I’m sure it will gently bare its fangs”
“My heart began to shrink, with an ambivalent sense of justice and evil”
“With love even in the despair that there is no eternity”
Sakura didn’t realize that his friends were all trusting him, the beautiful things that Sakura can’t even notice because of Sakura's distrust and fear of rejection. ‘The clown monster’ is symbolized as Sakura's fear of rejection that always haunts him, that ‘the clown monster’ will surely someday bare its fangs to Sakura. We can see this from chapter 60, Sakura believes that the only path that will allow him to accept who he is just as wide as a tightrope.
“My heart began to shrink, with an ambivalent sense of justice and evil”
“With love even in the despair that there is no eternity”
First, we need to know what this word are talking about :
Shrink, ambivalent, and eternity. Okay, so english is not my native language, and I need to search the meaning from google first, and I got this conclusion.
Shrink as a verb is to become smaller, or to make something smaller, meanwhile as a noun is a clinical psychiatrist or psychologist. called also headshrinker. And, I think you guys know what I mean.
Ambivalent : having mixed feelings or contradictory ideas about something or someone.
Eternity : time without end, or infinity.
Sakura knew that he had to trust his friends more, and rely on them more. But, he is scared people will leave him because of what he views as ‘weak’, he refuses to admit it, this is why Sakura’s heart began to ‘shrink’, and ambivalence began to emerge in his heart. We can take reference from chapter 58 of the manga.
Kaji gave a really good explanation for Sakura, if you guys forgot. Kaji uses a coffee bottle as an example, when Kaji changed the labels on the coffee bottle to Green Tea, Kaji still viewed this as a coffee bottle. The Green Tea label is a metaphor as the outer side of Sakura, where Sakura insists that he can do anything alone, he refuses to believe that.
And, the Coffee inside it, it’s a metaphor as what Sakura understands. Sakura understands that he can’t do this alone, he can’t do much on his own, and he has to rely on his friends more.
“... How much you insist that this is Green Tea… to me, the inside is still coffee. Just changing the label… doesn’t mean that what’s inside changes. So, when you can’t do something and you refuse to admit it… then, it’s the same… as faking and insisting that this is Green Tea… when the inside is coffee.” Kaji to Sakura at chapter 58.
So, when Sakura confronted all of his friends, all of his classmates. That’s when Sakura begins to trust all his classmates, he begins to ‘love’ the place where he can stand so easily. Like, look at him, he laughing, and smiling for the first time in the manga.
But, He knew that there’s no eternity in this place, everything is going to change, and what Sakura fears is that Makochi, and Furin are going to suffer because of him. Literally this part reminds me of chapter 145, and chapter 146, where Sakura almost falls into despair. Look at Sakura eyes at the beginning chapter 146, and the end of chapter 146. He looked so down, he almost fell into despair, but glady Suo, Nirei, and Tsugishita helped him. This can be seen in chapter 146 cover chapter.
“Wobbly and tattered, I still wanted to stand”
“If only I could meet you with bare love”
“Taking unders and heaving dead, because it’s worse than that, I’m invincible”
“An outsider full of traumas, even it it’s devilish”
Aaaaaaaaaa I've always wanted to cry at these lyrics, my heart… okey, let’s get back to the point.
Even after what happened in the past, Sakura still wanted to understand people more, he still didn't want to give up yet. He said, he already gave up on being accepted, being judged, and he doesn’t care about what others think of him now. So, why is Sakura still thinking about the others leaving him alone? Well, that’s because he still wanted to ‘stand’, he still wanted to face the others.
Of course, it’s not only that, Sakura still wanted to stand and protect Furin, even though he was wobbly and tattered, and this brings us to the next lyrics. If only Sakura can love Furin with all his heart, maybe he can face them without hesitation. He can see the others as who they are, no more the feeling of being scared of being rejected, and he can trust them on what he can see. He… can stand freely.
“Taking unders and heaving dead, because it’s worse than that, I’m invincible”
For the sake of God… time to brainrot my brain again.
Oh, wait… nevermind, now I remember Umemiya said to Sakura that he will never lose to reach the top. Now, you see what I see.
Remember, when the Shishitoren arc finish, the geng plus Choji and Togame having a picnic, yeah that’s what I’m talking about. ‘Taking unders and heaving dead’ also can be seen as ‘give up’. For reaching the top, Umemiya told Sakura, that no matter how difficult the path, no matter how unreasonable the climb is, and no matter how absurd it gets, he will never lose.
And, because of that, giving up became something that is worse, because if sakura gave up now (fighting Endo), he couldn’t reach the top. And, so once again “I’m invincible” has another meaning, this has become more than just a sentence, but it’s become a declaration, and promise. A declaration that Sakura will never give up again, and a promise to reach the top.
“An outsider full of traumas, even it it’s devilish”
Before, Sakura is just some random outsider that comes into the town, bringing full of traumas on his shoulders alone. Viewed as someone who is ‘devilish’, we can see this as problematic, or even troublesome. Sakura, and the society view Sakura as problematic, and troublesome to deal with, and we can see that clearly in the first eps of the anime, and the entire series of the manga.
“I want to protect you, I want to love you, my heartbeat makes me cry”
“The smell of blood sweetly wafts, malice stretches out”
“I want to hold you tight for the last time to the point of breaking”
But, he wanted to protect, and love with all his heart the place where he belonged to, the place where he cherished, and open up his heart. “my heartbeat” can be seen as Sakura without any hesitation went to Shishitoren teritory, Roppo-Ichiza, and Gravel, all of this just for the sake of Furin, his friends, and the place where he belongs.
“makes me cry” because Sakura doesn’t want to lose all of this, he realizes how precious Furin and Makochi are for him, so it’s okay for him to cry, and begging the other team to help him, because the important thing is that Furin is still safe.
“The smell of blood sweetly wafts, malice stretches out”
Time to remind you guys that english is not my native language… so it’s time to google again…
Malice : the intention or desire to cause harm (as death, bodily injury, or property damage) to another through an unlawful or wrongful act without justification or excuse.
I… okey this reminds me of Endo…idk, because the next lyrics is literally about Sakura wanting to hold tight on his friends. Okay, let’s talk about that later.
Idk why, but maybe this lyrics is talking about the Noroshi arc (yeah, I know it’s not the arc name but idk I'm too lazy to read the whole manga again).
The malice this lyrics is talking about, is about Noroshi. Noroshi is the ‘malice’, but mainly it’s about Endo, and ‘the smell of blood sweetly wafts’ is talking about Sakura. From the beginning of the arc, Sakura is already being targeted by Endo itself.
Wafts : The scent of climbing roses wafts through the window.
For Endo, Sakura has the same spark as Takiishi, because of that these lyrics make more sense (I think?), and Endo wanted to have Sakura on his side. Like we see in the manga. So, the next lyrics make more sense, Sakura wanted to hold on with his own two hands, he wanted to hold tight his friends. Even if it means he almost went broke.
Because…
“I won’t look away from your eyes anymore”
He won’t look away from his friends anymore, this time he won’t fall to the abyss for the second time, because his friends are there to hold his hand tight.
So, Sakura will face it, he won’t look away anymore. Let’s take chapter 1 and chapter 146 as examples of it. At first Sakura is scared to look at Kotoha and the people in town, he looks at them, but he gets scared, then glances away.
But, then at chapter 146, Sakura is facing Sugishita. No more fear in his eyes, he stood there with confidence. You guys can see the parallels of chapter 1 and chapter 146,  btw there are some Tumblr users who realize this before me, so I’m gonna copy the link for you guys.
Anyway, in the ending scene, there’s Umemiya. You know, the fact that the animator showing Umemiya at the beginning and the end of the scene is literally perfect. Umemiya tells Sakura that he was given the status, he doesn't take it, he can’t become the top alone. And that is why the opening shows Umemiya, that’s because Umemiya teaches, Umemiya becomes the mentor itself.
There is also one Tumblr user who has the theory that Umemiya chose Sakura to be the next leader, and that is a good theory.
This also happened at chapter 55 and chapter 59, Umemiya told Sakura that he liked all of his friends, and at chapter 59 Umemiya encouraged Sakura to trust his friends more.
“Sakura. The reason why you couldn’t move… was probably because you saw your friends all beat up. Don’t ya think? If that’s the case… then theres only one reason why that happened. It’s because… you like them.” Umemiya to Sakura at chapter 55.
“Trust Kaji. Trust your friends. And jump right out there… with everything you’ve got!” Umemiya to Sakura at chapter 59.
Conclusion :
I love this song, Young Kee did a really good job of explaining Sakura's feelings with the song.
Sakura is really one of the complexes I love, well not really complex if you compare it with Monster characters. But if it’s Shounen we’re talking about, then yes. Like bro, I really like how Satoru nii-sensei portrayed Sakura struggles with drawing, and how he is learning to accept who he is, learning to see his friends based on what he sees, the struggles and the anxiety that make me move.
Anyway thank you to Jamong for the lyrics translation on youtube,
Lyrical-Nonsense , and
MatchLyric
People who liked and read this nonsense paragraph. Like, I type this analysis in Google docs, and it’s almost 12 pages. Like wtf men, this is pure blabbering nonsense I say.
But, anyway, thank you, and see you guys on my next fanart then :333
PS :
I think it's time for me to go back at Twisted Wonderland fandom, and I'm still grinding for Floyd card... help...
