There is the possibility, yes, though, so far, Eggs has not shown interest in breeding with Waffles. In the spring, when I have more funds and it’s warmer for transporting, I intend to buy at least three more males from a different breeder.

Update! Kai is feeling much better now! He ate 3 pellets this morning!

(He's a messy eater, so there's some food particles in the water. He's also flaring a bit in this video cos he's very territorial, he's not happy because I left my mug next to his tank 😅)

@thebettacult Thanks for the advice! The swelling went down overnight after I added API. There's still a slight white spot on his lip, but it seems to be going away 😀

Hi! I'm thinking about getting a betta soon, and since I'm putting it in a 20gal tank I'd like to be able to fill it out a little bit with some other fish! So I was wondering - are female bettas any less likely to be aggressive towards or stressed out by tankmates? I know the rules of betta tankmates, but I also know that sometimes a betta just will not tolerate any other fish, so my thoughts were "can I make it more likely to work, or do I just have to roll the dice here?" Thanks in advance!

And whether male or female, any betta can be prone to aggression towards tankmates, so it really is just a roll of the dice! When it comes to bettas in community tanks I’m not really the best source of advice, I don’t personally have a whole lot of interest in community tanks. But @iantojonesthebetta and @thebettacult have some more experience in that regards than I! Good luck!!

Hi! Love the blog! I was wondering, do you think it's overkill if I get a 20gal tank to keep a betta in with some other fish (I'm thinking a loach or two, maybe some harlequin rasboras, haven't really decided yet)? I want a community tank but also really want a betta, but I don't want two tanks to maintain.

I’m not an expert on community tanks unfortunately :(What little I do know is it depends on the type of 20. A 20 gallon long is far more suited for community tanks than a 20 tall. I believe both loaches and rasboras need the 20 long. Both need groups of 6-8. I would ask @thebettacult for help they’re lovely when it comes to community tanks and I trust their word far more than my own

@thebettacult that sounds about right haha. thank you! I have a piettier piece of drift wood I want to put in, but I'm gonna let that one soak a couple weeks longer with more frequent water changes!

forgive the cloudiness, I just cleaned... does anyone have any tips to clear up the tannins a bit?? I tried boiling the drift wood and soaking it for a week or so and I've put carbon in my filter media, but my water just ends up being like... /black/

dont get me wrong I love the look of tea coloured water, but it's a bit much sometimes! cant see my gorgeous boy

@thebettacult Here he is in the bath. I still can’t really tell if he has popeye. He’s really hard to catch though. He does not like this. At least the bump hasn’t gotten any bigger now.
