Despite its mainstream title “Take Off This Tattoo,” the arrangement, performance &…

Kevin and Michael Bacon and their band, aka The Bacon Brothers, played to a near capacity crowd at the legendary Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, CA. Kevin is best known for his acting in hit movies such as Footloose, A Few Good Men and Apollo 13 and dozens of others. Michael is also well known in Hollywood circles but for another reason, his music. He has written scores for multiple award-winning films and television shows. In 1992 he was an ACE Award Nominee for Best Original Score for the film, The Man who Loved Sharks.
The brothers have been playing music together since they were boys but didn’t start playing professionally together until 1995. Since then they have released nine albums including their latest self-titled album released in the summer of 2018.
The band is made up of Michael on vocals, guitar and cello and Kevin on vocals, guitar and percussion. The rest of the band has been with them since the beginning and includes Paul Guzzone, bass and backing vocals, Joe Mennonna on keyboards, Tim Quick, lead guitar, mandolin and backing vocals and drummer Frank Vilardi.
The Bacon Brothers are currently on an extensive summer tour of the United States including stops in Michigan, Iowa, Pennsylvania, New York City and the Del Mar KAABOO music festival held less than a mile from the Belly Up Tavern at the famed Del Mar Fairgrounds and Race Track.
At the Belly Up Tavern they played “Driver,” “People Got to be Free,” “36 Cents,” and obvious crowdpleaser “Tom Petty T-Shirt” among others.   Michael and Kevin traded off vocal leads, and it’s striking the way each one contributes a unique tone, with Michael’s being the more gritty and Kevin belting out the rock n roll.  Kevin dances like a tumbleweed, igniting the crowd, sometimes playing the djembe, and often on acoustic guitar.  The entire band is precise and honed, you can tell they have been together more than two decades, and that adds to their ability to electrify the audience.  This band’s new nickname might as well be the “Sizzling” Bacon Brothers. www.baconbros.com
Opening up the evening was Los Angeles based singer-songwriter Cindy Alexander, who held her own enchanting the crowd and was clearly a pro on her separate set of musical merits.  This isn’t the first time that Cindy has opened for the Bacon Brothers. They have been fans of her work for many years. Cindy is not only one of the best- selling indie artists on Amazon.com she has also won multiple awards over her career including; NBC’s Star Tomorrow, LA Music Critics Awards – Best Female CD (twice) & Icon Award , LA Music Awards: Songwriter of the Year, Album of the Year, Independent Pop Artist of the Year, JPF: Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Pop Song of the Year, All Access Magazine: Best Female Vocalist, and KLOS: Best of Local Licks. http://www.cindyalexander.com
