Snakehips Brought it to The 1up Colfax - Denver

TheHundred outdid themselves once again on Wednesday, May 20th. I hopped out of the car on Colfax Ave. and as I looked up, people were swarming with excitement outside of the box office. The line into the 1up Colfax reached the next club over. Familiar faces kept popping up, I beamed with enthusiasm as people were coming up to me saying hi; these were people who traveled from all around the greater Denver area just to see Snakehips take the dancefloor that night. As I entered the club, my good friend Jordan (Milky.Wav) was finishing up his opening set, and the energy in the room was indescribable; it was hard to believe we still had one more opener before Snakehips took the stage. Everyone was dancing, the club was almost full, and if you’re a regular at The 1up Colfax, you know that the place doesn’t normally fill up until about 30 minutes before the headliner. It was a great start to a great night. Next up as direct support was Louie Lastic, who started his tour with Snakehips on Wednesday night. It’s safe to say his first night of tour was live.

Louie Lastic’s set reminded me of Stwo, Snakehips, and other artists alike. He kept the vibe smooth and sexy, and most of all, he left us wanting more. At this point, the room was almost filled to its maximum capacity. (I kept losing my friends. I could barely move. Whatever.) Snakehips was about to go on; I was mentally preparing for a legendary experience. The crowd was so diverse and I could tell that people traveled far and wide to see the headliner. It wasn’t just the usual Hundred crowd and it was a nice change of pace for us regulars.

Too bad it wasn’t Thursday because Snakehips were playing TONS of throwbacks- the perfect soundtrack for your #TBT. I was waiting in line to use the restroom and that’s when I heard the 2004 track “Oh” by Ciara and Ludacris. I ran out of that bathroom so quickly, and I apologize to the drunk girls I was in the middle of a conversation with because I probably seemed so rude... The melange of tracks played that night meshed together perfectly.

From what I remember, I heard Hyperparadise (GANZ Flip) follow directly after the Ciara track. Then, Snakehips paid tribute to the fellow UK homie: Troyboi- everyone went nuts. I almost cried when “Warm Water” by Banks was thrown into the mix. However, I almost lost my shit every time I heard an early 2000’s track of Mariah Carey’s or JLo’s remixed… I think everyone who was born in 1995 or earlier can agree with me that Snakehips totally killed it in throwback department. These were definitely some smoothtunes for your babygirl.

I wish the night didn’t have to come to a close, but of course all good things must come to an end. I think that was the first time in a while that I had witnessed The 1up absolutely packed and sold out with everyone dancing with so much energy. To TheHundred, thanks for putting on a dope party yet again. And Snakehips, thank you for an amazing night of throwbacks and booty-shaking. We salute you!
