Dude, Carnage Gwen introductory scene, before we even knew she was Gwen (or she did for that matter, given there would have been that post-resurrection amnesia storyline that’s common enough), we would have been her literally massacre the Sinister Six like that Darth Vader scene from Rogue One, the ending of Episode One of Invincible, or the hospital scene from Spider-Man 2. It sounded AWESOME. Obviously later the reason would have been revealed to get at Harry, but just imagine the possibilities — it could have, would have genuinely been brilliant. Now this idea was created before Spider-Gwen was even a thing, but if this happened now, I guarantee she would have become Spider-Gwen by the end of the film before she, Peter and Harry took on the also brought-back Giant Goblin King Norman. Even in comics for the last few years now, Spider-Gwen’s suit has been a symbiote she has complete control of due to her musical skills, and so she really only uses it as simply just a suit.
i had to take a double take because you just sent me this blog’s very first ask?? and it’s about carnage gwen??? i am elated that someone else cares about her and the fact we were robbed of this film like i do.
i only ever knew that the concept of carnage gwen existed, so hearing this opening scene is all new to me, and WOW. the idea of revenge completely taking over gwen, who we knew as clever and stubborn but ultimately kind, would have been so jarring once her identity was revealed. i feel like if the tasm universe (the tasmcu, if you will) continued it would’ve gotten so dark and twisted. killing off the main character’s soulmate was insanely dark for what was otherwise a pretty lighthearted franchise - the raimi movies got dark and obviously included a lot of deaths but there was always some sense of hope in the end. imagine if they killed mary-jane! there was hope at the end of tasm 2, but the heartbreak of losing gwen still hung heavy on the conclusion. if they had chosen to include the scene in the clock tower where peter nearly kills harry after he killed gwen i feel like it would have set up a sinister six/carnage gwen/tasm 3 set of films perfectly. harry has an even stronger reason for forming his villain group and gwen, taken over by the symbiote, attempts to finish what peter started. and if gwen is resurrected, i absolutely see potential for norman to come back to life as goblin senior. i also love the idea of carnage gwen becoming spider-gwen, it just makes so much sense. i imagine some confrontation between her and peter taking place where the evil symbiote is defeated, they both begin to heal, and of course she’s left with powers.
i rambled on so much with this, but i genuinely appreciate you allowing me to spill my thoughts! i am haunted by the loss of more tasm universe films and am always down to discuss what could’ve been. andrew, emma, and dane are all so talented in these emotional roles, it breaks my heart to know we’ll probably never see them together again as these characters. at least we can dream together on the internet!
