That has only happened once, our cats always come home. She just got stuck in a shed and she came home the day the posters were passed out.

A/N: This is a comfort piece for me, someone very introverted who never seems to do well in social gatherings. So this is dedicated to anyone who’s ever felt like they didn’t belong. You are loved. All my life, all I’d ever wanted was to be a social butterfly. Their lives seemed so easy. People would naturally flock to them, what with their charisma, their confidence, their natural gift of being conversational.

I envied them for the sole reason that I was nothing like them, not in the slightest.

It wasn’t easy for me to keep a conversation going, even if I was trying my very hardest, which was often the case. I could never seem to commandeer the room in the way that someone extroverted could, and it was especially hard sometimes to feel a part of everyone.

It would be too easy to say I was invisible. Instead, I felt painfully visible, and entirely ignored.

Everyone could see my shyness peeking through, everyone could see how alienated I’d become, everyone could see my despondence, and yet no one bothered to change it.

No one cared.

My excruciating awkwardness had reached an all-time high at Krystall’s birthday party.

Agent Rossi was so keen on inviting me, and I was honored to go since it’d be my first bonding experience with the team outside of work. I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to grow closer to them, otherwise, I’d run the risk of isolating myself even more. As if being brought in as the BAU’s new technical analyst to replace Penelope Garcia wasn’t enough of a reason for them to doubt, despise, and disrespect me, I was the introvert who had a hard time making friends - unlike my predecessor, who’ve I heard could make friends like nobody’s business. I knew I could never fill her shoes, much less fill the glaring void she created when she left, but still, I maintained my bright-eyes in hopes that I’d be enough for them, anyway. I was all too eager to get to know everyone as more than just my coworkers, with one exception.

Dr. Reid maintained an arm’s length distance from me at all times, and at first, I understood. I even empathized with him.

Besides SSA Morgan and SSA Hotchner, the only other person that he’d work the longest with was Penelope, and now she was gone, too, but the longer his rejection of me lasted, the more I was curious what he truly had against me, and the more I was less interested in changing that. Why would I work tirelessly at mending this broken friendship, if he wasn’t willing to meet me halfway?

I was more shocked that he, of all people, would be the most displeased with my arrival. When Agent Rossi replaced Agent Gideon, from what I heard, the transition wasn’t as rocky as mine. Dr. Reid was overjoyed to be working with him and to discuss all his books. When Jordan Todd, and eventually Ashley Seaver, took Agent Jareau’s place momentarily, he was happy to be working with them. When Alex Blake and Kate Callahan came in after Emily Prentiss, he welcomed them with open arms. So what was it about me that was so abhorrent to him?

I never outright asked, mainly because I feared confrontation and I also had no way of knowing if my curiosity would make the situation worse or better. But I should’ve. I should’ve marched right up to him and asked, “What’s your problem?”

Somehow, though, I finally got up the courage to do so tonight.

I watched as the team laughed at one of Rossi’s anecdotes, meanwhile, the inside jokes flew over my head, hindering that bonding experience I was so sure I’d get by coming here. So I stepped inside the house, wandering into a spare room, knowing I wouldn’t be missed.

I thought I’d only be there for a moment to get some “fresh air” even though I’d actually migrated from the outside to the inside, where there’d arguably be less fresh air, but that’d be my excuse if anyone came in. But I was forced to stay longer in the office when it finally happened.

I finally reached my breaking point.

It was building up all night. It started when I first stepped into the house. My confidence faltered almost immediately when I accidentally stepped on Rossi’s Italian leather dress shoe as I went to greet him. He told me not to worry, but of course, I did just the opposite. It was a minor bump in the road, something so minute, but still, it weighed on me thinking about how embarrassing it was that I dirtied something of his that everyone recognized as valuable.

My shame didn’t stop there. As I was talking with Krystall, there were many periods of awkward silence that I couldn’t manage to fill with words, so we each sipped at our wine until one of us would try to pick up the conversation. What’s worse was that we each knew the silence was suffocating, and I could tell we were both thinking of things to say to keep the conversation going, and yet, nothing worth saying came to mind.

And worst of all was when Penelope Garcia finally arrived at the party. Don’t misunderstand me - it wasn’t the worst part of all because she was bad - no, she was lovely. She gave me a welcome present - a Beanie Baby to put on my desk, evocative of her own style of decor, and I loved her for it, which made me hate her all the more.

Rossi’s house livened up when she came. Everyone flocked to greet her, laughter erupted and ricocheted off Rossi’s high ceilings. They were positively elated by her presence, truly happy. Which was the first time I’d ever seen them that way because frankly, they were never that happy with me.

It was a painful reminder that I could never bring what she brought to the team, and I could never be as good as her. And the general consensus I reached, sitting in Rossi’s office all alone with my glass of wine, was the same one I’d known for years now - I’m not enough.

And I will never be enough.

I hadn’t realized I was crying until a tear cascaded down my cheek, dripping right under my nose, forcing me to audibly sniffle it away. Using the sleeve of my cardigan, I desperately tried to wipe away the tears faster than they were spilling out, but it just wasn’t possible. In fact, the coarse fabric of my cardigan rubbing against my cheeks only made them redder, making the fact that I was unwell that much more obvious.

The sound of the doorknob turning sent me into overdrive, automatically engaging me into turning around and facing the wall so that whoever was coming in wouldn’t find me in the state that I was in. I sniffled a great big sniffle and fanned my face to dry it of any moisture that my silent sobs could’ve left.

“Sorry, Rossi, I was just getting some fresh air and I thought I’d check out your book collectio-”

When I turned around, Rossi wasn’t standing there as I’d assumed.

In fact, the person standing there was the last person I thought it’d be.

“Dr. Reid?”

He was lingering in the doorway, studying my face, to which I instantly preventing from continuing on any further by cowering my head and looking away.

“What are you doing here?” My voice had taken a tone of anger that I didn’t anticipate to be there originally.

“Are you okay?”

To my surprise, his question seemed sincere, but I couldn’t truly believe it was.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Just allergies from being outside for so long. The pollen and stuff, you know?” I rambled nervously.

“Oh, really? Are you allergic to the grass?” He asked in a joking manner, knowing I was lying but still asking so that he’d have the satisfaction of getting to see me try and work my way out of the situation.

“Yes, I am actually. The most common outdoor allergy triggers are trees, grass, weed pollen, mold spores, dust mites, cockroaches, and cat, dog, and rodent dander. Don’t you know this? After all, you’re the one with the IQ of 187 here, not me.” I tried to joke to lighten up the room’s heaviness, but clearly, it didn’t work.

By this time, I’d already turned back to face the wall, so Reid surely couldn’t see me, but I heard the door click shut behind me, and a wave of anxiety permeated my soul.

“What’s wrong, Y/N?”

I scoffed at his question, almost hitting him back with an “As if you care.” But I decided against it in an effort to preserve what little repose we had left between us.

“Will you please tell me what’s wrong?” He sounded like he was begging - like he was practically willing to go on his hands and knees to get me to answer, but all I could focus on was the feeling of his hot breath ghosting over my neck.

Goosebumps rose on my skins once he put his warm hand on my cold shoulder, which was bare from the absence of my cardigan and where it had slipped down to my elbow.

I flinched at the sensation, causing him to recoil.

“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have done that.” He quickly apologized, regret filling his eyes. “Um, you look nice by the way. I like the way you did your hair. A-and your dress. It looks nice.”

Not even giving a chance to respond to his compliment, I asked again, “Why are you here?” Pressing him to get the point faster before I had a chance to react at another one of his physical advances.

“I saw you leave the backyard and I thought I should check on you.”

“Well, you’ve checked on me, so you can go back now.” I didn’t miss a beat when responding, fooling him into thinking that I didn’t catch his words and their intentions.

“I just want to talk.” He replied, finally answering my question from before.

“Okay. Let’s talk.”

He took a seat on a chaise lounge sofa while I stayed standing by the bookcase in preparation for a quick escape if need be.

“I’m sorry I’ve been pushing you away. That wasn’t fair of me.”

Although I hadn’t expected him to apologize, I wasn’t going to be misled and naively accept his apology with no reservations.

“Why did you do it? And for so long?”

“I was angry. I didn’t want another person in my life that I cared about to walk away, so I thought maybe if I made you feel unwelcome, you wouldn’t want to stay. And she’d come back.”

It hurt to say, but at least I knew he was being honest.

“I accept your apology, but it’s not okay.”

“I know that.”

“Okay, are we good now? We’ve talked, so,” My hand gestured toward the door, suggesting he should leave, but he didn’t comply.

“I’m not leaving.”

“And why not?” The wine glass in my hand nearly shattered at the way my hand wrapped around it since its presence hindered me from being able to actually clench my fists.

“I didn’t come here to apologize, even though I should’ve sooner. But I came here because I wanted to make sure you were okay.”

“Like you care.” I chuckled mirthlessly.

“I do care.”

I gave in, not wanting to fight him any longer, otherwise, I might cry some more from the altercation.

“I’m fine.”

“No, you’re not,” He shook his head. “I know you’re not fine. What’s really wrong, Y/N?”

I looked away immediately from his gaze, trying to hide the sheen that was inevitably coating my eyes from the presence of tears, but he would’ve known I was crying the minute I used the cuff of my cardigan to wipe under my nose again.

“I just . . . I feel so unconnected,” I whispered, the pain of my words stealing my volume. “I don’t fit in. And I’ve never fit in before, but I actually thought this might be my chance.”

“It still is. Just come back outside.”

“You don’t get it!”

“What don’t I get?”

“I just needed to take a moment to compose myself so I wouldn’t ruin the energy of the room. And I’d really like to do that alone, okay?”

“I know you don’t want me to go.”

“What?”

“You’re testing me to see if I’ll stay.”

“No, I’m not.”

“So you’re saying that if I left right now, you wouldn’t regret letting me walk away?”

“Yeah, that’s right.”

“I know you’re lying to me.”

“I’m not lying.”

“Yes, you are. I know what it looks like when you lie. Wanna know how I know?”

I entertained his question out of pure frustration “How?”

“Because I pay attention to you. I see your mannerisms. I notice everything. Do you think I haven’t picked up on how you crack your knuckles when you’re nervous? Or how your stutter goes away when you talk about technology? Or how your fists clench, like how you’re doing right now?”

My eyes flickered to my fist that was wrapped so tightly around the glass, my knuckles were white. Out of shame, I loosened my grip.

“I pay attention because I care. And I’m sorry that I made you ever believe that I didn’t. What you do, and say, and think - it’s important. So no, I’m not leaving. I’m staying right here to give you the attention you deserve.” He sighed with a breath of relief. “I care more about you than whatever’s happening out there.”

And slowly, then all at once, that barrier between us broke down.

“I care about you. We all do. And when you’re ready, we can walk back out there together so that you can see for yourself just how much we care.”

. . . That night, I made nine more friends.

And the day we came back to work, with my Beanie Baby in hand, I rearranged my desk.

A folded up sticky note fell out from between two tables. I picked it up, recognizing the handwriting instantly.

Summer To Remember: Part Two

Xavier is so sweet and I feel like he just cares a lot about the people around him. Like especially when he was defending Brooke at the campfire. I feel like he would instantly feel the need to care for you too. 

Okay I’m sorry he makes me soft.

Part One 

We started at the lake, stopping right in front of the docks. Mom droning on about the rules and what we had, stopping lastly on how drowning was the main cause of death. I was completely uninterested until a certain voice chimed in.

"What's second?" He challenged, eyeing my mother.

She didn't say anything as she scolded him with her eyes.

"People." I teased back with a smirk. His lips twisted up as he raised his eyebrows to me, looking back at his friends.

I didn't see the way Mom scoffed as she walked away, but it was only a matter of time until she realized I had the hots for the new counselor.

We all made our way down the path and over to the Dining Hall. Bertie was unloading food and supplies out of the back of a truck.

"And this is Chef Bertie, a Camp Redwood veteran." Mom said proudly.

Bertie smiled as she took the cigarette from her lips.

Xavier casually leaned against the truck. "Dibs," he joked motioning to her and looking over at Ray as he laughed.

Bertie looked over at him laughing slightly, "You wouldn't know what to do with it if you got it, handsome."

Ray, Chet and I started laughing as Xavier was completely taken aback. The shock written on his chiseled features.

"Put those scrawny arms to work and help the lady fill her pantry." She shoved a box into his arms. He took it without a word. "All of you, grab a crate." She rested on the back of the truck and finished her cigarette as we all went to work helping unload the back of the truck.

Ray was still laughing to himself, Xavier bumped him with his crate. "It's not that funny." He sneered.

"Actually it was," I interjected, walking past both of the boys and putting the crate down, bending flirtatiously. "It's what you get for calling dibs on the wrong girl." I winked and brushed my hands off while I walked back out to grab another.

Both boys almost dropped their crates along with their jaws. Xavier's mind was racing but he wasn't quick enough to come up with something else to say.

"Chef Bertie worked here when I was a counselor," My mother said as she stood and supervised us, of course not lifting a finger. "We are so blessed to have her with us."

"I have many good memories of this place," Bertie chimed in, "It's magic up here in the fresh air." She took another hit, "I'm sorry that one bad apple ruined it for everyone."

Everyone stopped and gathered around once again. They clearly tensed up at the slight mention of what happened here.

"The minute I heard Margaret was reopening this place, I was first to volunteer." She raised her hand lightly, then looked over at me, "Well second."

I rolled my eyes, "Hey I had too, what kind of daughter would I be if I didn't." I shrugged.

"A pretty shitty one," Xavier joked behind me, "But lucky me you aren't."

I turned around quickly almost nose to nose with him, smiling. "You aren't lucky yet." I gently pushed his sunglasses back up his nose with my finger.

"Okay!" My Mom clapped, "Let's continue our tour."

I smiled at him once again before following her over to the showers.

"Girls shower in the a.m.,boys in the p.m. Same goes for counselors too." She didn't look back as she walked through and waited for us outside.

Xavier turned over to me feigning a fake look of disappointment,"Guess I won't be able to help you rinse and repeat babe."

"I didn't take you for someone who follows rules, what a pitty." I pouted teasingly as I crossed my arms.  

He pushed his tongue in his cheek before he laughed lightly, shaking his head.

Everyone was clearly disappointed as they looked through the barren wooden outdoor room. There was no ceiling and not even any stalls. We walked through quickly and eventually made it back to the girls cabin and then the boys.

"Girls are red, boys are blue. Don't even try to make purple." She stated as we made our way back out.

I rolled my eyes, feeling another sexual spiel coming on.

"You expect us to be celibate all summer?" Chet asked, not really believing that she was serious.

"Well I'm not banning self-abuse. Although every stroke soils your soul." She said in disgust. "But how could I ever enforce it?" She threw her hands up in defeat.

"It's 1984, Margaret. They're building coed showers in the West Hollywood gym. You ever hear of the sexual revolution?" He looked over to me momentarily, "Sex won." He said matter of factly as him and Ray fist bumped.

"I am aware of the decadence of our era. Women's underwear that shows the buttocks."

"Here we go." I mumbled, crossing my arms and throwing my head back against the cabin door.

"Pornography in your own home," She continued on, "Van Halen."

Montana furrowed her brows and looked over to me, I just gave her a "Ignore her" look.

"I have been fighting the Lord's fight against filth around the world for years. Charles Keating is a dear friend. I was right by his side in Cincinnati during that Larry Flynt trial. And that is why, while still grieving my sweet husband Walter's untimely death, I took a small portion of the large fortune he left to me to buy this camp."

I tensed up at the mention of dad. While it had been years since his death it wasn't something I talked about openly. I shifted my weight and squeezed my arms tightly. It was also something that Mom and I never really talked about together

"I wanted to create a safe, pure, godly and decent place for the children of this country to escape for the summer. It is a dream come true. Now, there aren't many rules but I expect each and every one of you to follow them without exception." Once she finished her monologue she stormed away.

I rolled my eyes yet again, "Don't listen to her." I said. They all looked overwhelmed with how passionate and forceful her attitude was. Unfortunately it's something I've just endured and gotten used to.

"Who's Charles Keating?" Chet asked abruptly.

"He was against porn." I patted his shoulder as I walked away, heading back into the main part of the camp.

The sun was starting to set as the hue of the camp changed to a darker one. The eeiry scene growing once again onto the grounds.

Once everyone brought their bags and things to their respected cabin it was unanimous that we should build a fire. Brooke being overly excited to roast marshmallows and everyone else just excited to get the aesthetic of summer camp started.

There was a fire pit already with logs circled around it, creating a nice seating area. Chet grabbed the wood and threw it in while Ray lit it up. I sat down on a log by myself.

Brooke dug into the marshmallows as soon as Rita brought them over, stabbing them on the end of her stick and happily waiting for it to roast.

I felt the weight of the log shift as someone sat down beside me. I looked over with the corner of my eye to find Xavier giving me his infamous smirk, clearly teasing me again as he scooted closer, our thighs touching gently.

Chet lit up a blunt as Rita swatted at the mosquitoes and bugs that decided to swarm around us now. He passed it over to Ray who took a hit, and then Ray over to Rita.

"I don't smoke that funny weed," She said as she declined his offer, "The only thing I put in my lungs is a Marlboro Red," She smirked as she lit up a cigarette and huffed at it lightly.

"You know that shit will kill ya," Xavier stated.

"We all gotta die somehow," Rita stated quickly. "Any of you ever been camp councilors before?"

We all shook our heads, some stated their no's audibly.

"We just had to get out of LA." Ray said.

"I hear that, I couldn't be in that city another minute with all those gruesome murders going on." Rita stated.

The blunt made it over to me, I took a hit and turned to Xavier. He seemed impressed with the fact I did it.

"Do you want it or not?" I shook it lightly as he just stared at me, the fire crackling in the distance and Brooke talking about how she was attacked by the Night Stalker.

He took it from me quickly, our hands momentarily touching. "Just didn't know that Mommy's good little Christian girl was such a rebel." Half of his face was illuminated by the fire as he smirked down at me.

"Yeah?" I leaned in closely, "There's a lot you don't know about me." I whispered as my eyes trailed down his face, stopping on his lips. I leaned back and directed my attention back to the conversation. Not noticing the hunger in his eyes as our game of cat and mouse got a little more interesting.

"24 years ago. That's when they closed this place down." Rita was about to start telling the story of the massacre.

"Rita," Xavier groaned, "I understand the tradition, and usually I'm cool with that, but our friend Brooke here had a for-real assault, and we're just not in the mood for a bullshit ghost story." He passed the blunt over to Montana.

I looked over to Brooke who was no longer roasting marshmallows, who looked absolutely scared to death.

"It's not bullshit. And there was no ghost," Rita went on, "I'll be honest with you. I've never been a nurse at a camp before and you've never been councilors. So how did we get these jobs?" We all paused listening to her, "That's because anybody that knows what happened here, doesn't want to be here. This is the site of the worst Camp massacre of all time."

I looked down as I remembered the story my Mom told me, about how she barely survived and the reason she doesn't have her ear. Xavier felt me stiffen as he scooted closer, letting me know he was here. "Come on Rita.." His voice grew in annoyance at the fact she kept going.

"His name was Benjamin Richter but most call him Mr.Jingles." She stood up for dramatic effect, "Richter was drafted into the Vietnam War and he found his calling. He had the highest kill rate in his company. He had a nasty habit of collecting trophies from his enemies. Cutting off their ears and cutting them into a necklace."

"Jesus Christ Rita," I snapped, "If my Mom hears you talking about this she's going to lose her shit." My fist clenched remembering how hurt she was whenever she would be reminded of that horrible night. Xavier looked at me with concern, putting his hand over mine in an attempt to calm me down. I just looked over at him, not really wanting Rita to continue in the fear it would set Mom off.

Rita just shrugged as she continued on, "The only job he could get was here, nobody knows why he snapped...but one night he took a knife and slaughters an entire cabin. Ten victims in all."

"You're wrong," a voice chimed in. We all looked over and saw my Mom approaching the fire slowly everyone grew still at her appearance and Xavier's hand left mine. "Alcohol is not allowed," she took the flask from Ray's hand and poured it onto the dirt, "Neither are those funny smelling cigarettes." She looked over to Chet who had it dangling limply in his fingertips.

"So nothing happened here?" Xavier asked, confused.

"No, there was a massacre here. But only nine died not ten." She walked just in front of the fire, where everyone could see her.

"So Mr.Jingles is real?!" Brooke asked, her voice rose with fear.

Mom didn't say anything as she turned her head to the side and moved her hair, revealing the spot where her left ear should be, but isn't. Brooke gasped while looking away, seeming like she was going to hurl.

Xavier's brows were furrowed as he looked from my mom to me, trying to make sure I was okay. I didn't say anything as she continued on with the story I'd heard only once before. She sat on an empty log as she began to go into detail of the events she went through.

"And I thought that will be the end of it," She recalls the trial, "But I can't escape him. And that's why I bought this camp. To reopen it and take all of my darkest memories and make them into something bright."

"Duddee..." Chet shakes his head, "That's heavy."

Xavier's hand graced over mine again as his eyes scanned my face. He wasn't ready for all of this heavy backstory, he didn't even know that any of this happened. Let alone that it followed you your whole life.

Mom dusted off her shorts as she stood, "Alright well, we have a lot to do with the kids coming in two days. And this is the last time I want anyone talking about that horrible night." She walked away into the night as everyone sat still, horrified.

Everyone eventually got up, except for Xavier and I who just sat there a bit longer.

"Are you okay?" He asked, genuine concern gracing his features.

It made my heart tinge how caring he appeared to be. I just gave him a reassuring smile as I nodded my head, "Yeah, I'm good."

He smiled back lightly and stood up, reaching his hand out to me. "Then let's go inside before we catch our death."

I took his hand as I got to my feet, hesitating to let go once I got up. Eventually I did and we headed back up to the girls cabin.

Maricha May Day 4: Thief

Summary:

When Marin’s things begin to mysteriously disappear one by one, he asks for help to one of the local crime-fighting cat, just to discover an amazing truth he would had never expected.

Marin is not one to blame others whenever he loses something, he is very unlucky and it constantly happens that loses this or that, but even he was getting suspicious after losing one too many things. He was beginning to think that maybe something or someone was tailing him and stealing his things whenever he wasn’t looking. Maybe there was an akuma going after him, something similar to that time that Sabrina and Sebastian were akumatized and used their invisibility to mess with Chloe and Cleón. With Hawk Moth roaming free, it wasn’t such a far-fetched possibility.

At first, it were just a couple of pens and pencils that he couldn’t find, but he paid it no mind since he could have lost them at school or one of those times he designs outdoors. Then he couldn’t find his spare pencil case when he got his usual pencil case dirty, it was odd, but he could have forgotten were he had put it in the first place. But when he couldn’t find his anti-stress ball, he began to think that maybe there was a pattern. Concerned, he asked his sister Marinette, his parents and some of his friends, just to check if they knew anything about it or if it was happening to someone else. He even asked Adrien Agreste, despite them being something like rivals.

Seeing that nobody knew anything, he began to consider his possibilities. He could try to film everything and everywhere to see if there was someone behind the thefts, but he lacked the time, the patience and the money to do so. Another option would be to transform into Lordbug and search for clues with a little help from his Lucky Charm, but that would only help in the case that the culprit was an akuma and it would be very embarrassing if his identity was revealed to his family just like that.

After a couple of days without getting any ideas, Marin decides to brainstorm in his rooftop, lying on the floor and wondering if maybe the starry sky will help him to come up with even the faintest idea to solve his problem. Coincidentally, a restless superhero who can’t sleep spots him and, after a few seconds of deliberation and some time to gather patience, decides to stop his pointless wander around Paris and approach his civilian rival before an akuma decides to pay a visit. Even though, Chat Noir takes his fair time to gather patience in order to avoid acting as he usually does around Marin.

“Isn’t it pretty late to be awake, mister?” says Chat Noir as he lands on the rooftop. “Specially with such a foul mood, we wouldn’t want to attract any butterfly at this time of the night, right?”

“Holy shit Chat Noir!” says Marin jumping and standing up. “Would you please mind not giving me this scare jumps? I didn’t expect you to come by tonight! At least, not by my spot”.

“I’m sorry, I tend to forget that I’m quite stealthy with the suit on” says Chat Noir growling internally. “I simply saw you frowning from afar and wondered what could probably be disturbing you in this beautiful night”.

“Thank you for your concerns Chat” says Marin. “The truth is that I’ve been noticing that my things have started to disappear to the point that this can’t be considered simply bad luck or a coincidence”.

“How so?” asks Chat remembering the conversation he had with Marin three days ago about things mysteriously disappearing. “Can’t it be that you’ve lost whatever you’re missing? Or that you’ve misplaced it?”

“Yes, if it were simply a couple of things or so, but there are too many things that I can’t find right now” says Marin. “Namely, ten pencils, eight pens, a spare pencil case, three old doodling notebooks, an anti-stress ball, some old gloves and even my bottle of perfume. And let me tell you, most of those were in a fixed place and I hadn’t brought them outside”.

“Okay, I see what you’re saying” says Chat Noir agreeing. “It is weird”.

“I know! And the worst is that is only happening to me, but I can’t catch the culprit” says Marin sighing. “Honestly, I’m beginning to think that I either have a stalker or an akuma is targeting me like that time with Vanisher and Disappearer”.

“Hm… It wouldn’t be so far-fetched that there was an akuma involved, but I think there must be something else…” says Chat thinking. “Has anyone noticed anything strange happening recently or has anyone seen someone tailing you?”

“No, no one saw anything, not even my family” says Marin shaking his head.

“Alright… Just in case you’re being targeted by an akuma, did you do something to someone that could have made them angry or sad?” asks Chat Noir getting more weirded out by minute.

“I don’t think so… I was also thinking about that earlier but nothing came to mind” answers Marin.

“You didn’t reject a confession, accidentally disturb a pigeon, talk loudly or dismissed anyone?” tries Chat.

“Now that you mention, I did reject a girl who confessed to me, but I was as careful as I could in doing so and I made sure that she didn’t leave being sad” says Marin.

“Okay, so we could have a motive there” points Chat Noir. “Maybe the girl didn’t want you to feel bad and faked being okay but later collapsed under her emotions and thus be akumatized”.

“It’s possible, but Marinette talked to her about it a day later and the girl said she was fine” says Marin. “What’s more, the girl said that she would cheer for me to confess to my crush”.

“Wait a minute, you have a crush?” says Chat turning his head to Marin suddenly.

“It’s… complicated” says Marin blushing and avoiding looking at Chat.

“What do you mean by complicated?” inquires Chat Noir suspicious.

“Do I have to say it?” says Marin blushing. “It’s a bit embarrassing and very depressing”.

“If it’s very depressing, you definitely have to say it, we don’t wat any more akumas because of love” says Chat sternly.

“There is this girl that I fell for and I know that I love her, but she’s way too far from my reach. But then there is also this other girl, who I know that is crushing on me and I can perfectly depict myself being happy dating her, but because of some assholes I couldn’t date her or they would make her suffer” says Marin getting beet red. “I don’t really know what to do about anything and I feel so bad that I’m crushing on two girls. It’s so frustrating, I can’t even decide who to love”.

“You like two girls” deadpans Chat.

“It’s more like I love one and I’m crushing on another, but I can’t forget either of them” says Marin hiding his face.

“Okay, I won’t talk about this because we’ll lose focus” says Chat shaking his head. “Did you tell the girl you rejected that there was someone else?”

“I did tell her, but I only mentioned the one I’m crushing on” says Marin.

“Okay, okay. Could have someone heard this conversation?” asks Chat Noir.

“Maybe, I don’t know, I can’t know for sure that there was no one behind a corner or a wall” says Marin.

“Great. That gives us two hypothesis that turn into four” says Chat snapping his fingers. “One, a girl that was crushing on you heard everything and was either akumatized  or decided to stalk you. Two, someone who hates you heard everything and decided to use the information to mess with you or was akumatized out of jealousy”.

“Option one with stalker version doesn’t makes much sense to be honest” points Marin. “But it is a possibility”.

“Good. Now we have to determine whether the culprit is akumatized or not” says Chat Noir. “I’m thinking to ask for help to my sister and watch over your room in case there is an akuma”.

“I wouldn’t want to impose like that if we don’t even know if there’s an akuma” says Marin.

“It’s our duty to make sure of it. Last time we were so slow to realize we had an Antibug attack” says Chat. ”Even if the reasons weren’t exactly like that”.

Suddenly, a loud thump sounds from Marin’s room, followed by a feminine voice cursing her clumsiness. Curious, the boys take a peek from Marin’s trapdoor and see a blur quickly exiting Marin’s room. With the agility of a cat, Chat Noir gets inside and follows the mysterious figure using the sound of the footsteps. Marin catches up to him at Marinette’s door, the cat hero looking confused at the door without moving as the two of them enter into a confused trance. Both boys stay there for a couple of minutes wondering the implications that carried the conclusion they had reach and getting nervous because of their newly founded questions.

“Do we…” says Chat signalling the door with his head.

“Yeah, we should…” nods slowly Marin and then knocks on the door. “Mari?”

They hear a lot of noise from inside of the room and then Marinette opens her door smiling sheepishly. “Do you need something Mar- Chat Noir?!”

“Hello, Princess, fancy meeting you here” says Chat Noir. “Are we interrupting something perhaps?”

“Oh! I was… I was simply tidying up my room for once” says Marinette with an obviously forced smile.

“And no one came to your room?” asks Marin. “Because we saw someone getting inside”.

“What are you talking about? It must be your imagination, no one came into or went out of my room, I’ve been all the time here” say Marinette sweating buckets.

“Then, there won’t be a problem if we come inside of your room, right Princess?” asks Chat.

“I’m still cleaning it, so you can’t, you’ll mess with my yarn again” says Marinette.

“It won’t be a problem if I enter then” says Marin.

“And Princess, that was one time I was bored, now I’m working” says Chat Noir.

“Aren’t you two being too pushy now?” says Marinette crossing her arms.

“Aren’t you being too elusive?” replies Marin.

“No I’m not” says Marinette pettily.

“My cat instincts say otherwise” replies Chat Noir.

“That doesn’t make sense” says Marinette looking confused at Chat Noir.

“You’re right, it sounded better inside my head” agrees Chat Noir. “But don’t change the topic. You’re hiding something Princess”.

“Perhaps I’m hiding a bell stuck on my handrail” replies Marinette sassily and Chat Noir blushes.

“A what?” asks Marin confused.

“Nothing!” shouts Chat embarrassed. “It’s nothing! And I’m entering into your room whether you like it or not Marinette, so make room or I’ll have to enter through your trapdoor”.

“So much or the gentlecat” huffs Marinette.

“This and that are different. You’re obstructing an official superhero investigation” says Chat Noir.

“You know you actually don’t have any authority and that I could perfectly report you for trespassing and abuse of power, right?” asks Marinette.

“He’s not trespassing, I let him in” says Marin. “And he is investigating something I asked him to, so there’s no power abuse”.

“Exactly” says Chat fist-bumping Marin. “So will you please let us in your room already or do I have to call my sister and the bugs?”

“I don’t think they would help you right now” says Marinette eyeing Marin. “Specially not the bugs”.

“But there’s also my sister, who is entering your room by the trapdoor as we distract you” says Chat smugly.

“What!” exclaims Marinette and turns around, giving enough space to Marin and Chat to enter the room. She glares at the boys. “That was low, even for an alley cat”.

“It’s called a classic, and you fell for it” says Chat. “I wouldn’t have done it if you let us enter the room in the first place. Which, by the way, is quite tidy right now”.

“Didn’t you say that you were cleaning?” asks Marin suspiciously.

“I was, that’s why is clean, but I still have some things to fix” says Marinette. “Now get out and don’t make me force you to exit with my broomstick”.

“Okay, I’m going to be honest with you sis, you are acting very weird and oddly suspicious right now” says Marin. “What is going on?”

“You’re simply imagining things! There’s nothing going on except for you two insisting on barging into my room and inspect it!” exclaims Marinette.

“She’s definitely hiding something” says Chat. “Is it perhaps related with the mysterious disappearance of Marin’s things?”

“Of course not!” exclaims Marinette. She quickly realizes her mistake and corrects. “Because there’s nothing going on!”

“It is!” exclaims Marin indignant. “You told me you knew nothing!”

“I know nothing!” denies Marinette.

“Wait a minute, I’m smelling something” says Chat holding his hand on the air. He digs on a pile of fabrics despite Marinette’s telling him not to and pulls out a squishy ball. “What is this?”

“That’s my anti-stress ball!” says Marin and then he faces Marinette crossing her arms. “Marinette, why is something I suddenly lost on your bedroom?”

“I… I used it the other day to distract Kitty Noire! She wouldn’t stop hugging me while I was sewing and I picked up the first thing I saw” says Marinette.

“But how could you had picked it up if it was in my room?” asks Marin.

“I don’t know! It was there!” tries Marinette, but both boys look at her clearly not buying it.

“Wait a minute, isn’t that my spare pencil case?” says Marin pointing to a pencil case.

“That’s mine!” says Marinette.

“Marinette Dupain-Cheng. I thought you hated lies” said Chat not looking at her. “I’m a bit disappointed in you, I would have never thought that you’d steal something and lie about it even when it was clearly you who stole everything”.

Marinette leaves the room with some tears on her eyes. Marin and Chat Noir call for her, but she leaves the house without looking behind. Chat Noir tries to follow her, but Marin stops him and then hits Chat Noir on his neck.

“Hey! What was that for?” says Chat Noir rubbing his neck annoyed.

“That was very rude of you Chat Noir” says Marin. “I thank you for worrying about me and taking your time to help me with my problems, but even if I respect and look up to you, I won’t condone you talking like that to my sister”.

Chat Noir sits down and sighs as he facepalms. “Again… I’ve done it again” says Chat.

“What do you mean?” asks Marin.

“I’ve been rude to Marinette again” says Chat clenching his fist. “Why is it that I always mess it up when it comes to Marinette?”

“I’m not sure about it, but I take it that  you regret it, right?” says Marin offering his hand to Chat Noir.

“Of course I do! Marinette is a wonderful girl! But I’m mostly a jerk to her I don’t even know how can she put up with me” laments Chat. “I think it would be for the best if I never came again around here”.

“That would make her sad, you know” says Marin sitting next to Chat Noir. “Even if she’s sometimes mad at you, she values your friendship. You’re not a jerk, and she knows that”.

“Then what would you call someone who upsets her lots of times?” asks Chat.

“I would call that a friend. An awkward friend who is quite bad at social interaction, but a friend regardless” says Marin. “Because you are there for her when she needs you, that’s why you’re her friend, you worry about her”.

“… Thank you. I think I needed to hear that” says Chat Noir.

“No problem” says Marin. “Even if you hate me for some reason I don’t know, I still think you’re a great hero. And I value that you’re a good friend to Marinette, most of the time”.

“It’s not that I hate you” says Chat Noir.

“Come on Chat, I’m not that oblivious, I can see how uncomfortable you are each time you see me and the little growls you make or the momentarily glares don’t go as unnoticed as you may think”. “Don’t worry, it’s okay if you despise me, no one should tell others who to like and who to dislike. And while I don’t understand why, I’m sure you have your reasons. But I don’t think I’ll hate you for that, and my offer about hanging with me and eating some pastries still stands if you somehow change your mind”.

“Then I’ll be clear. I don’t hate you, but I don’t like you very much either” says Chat bluntly. “Thought, I’m beginning to think that I got a wrong impression about you… Anyways, I think I should be going to pick up Marinette and the go home. It’s too late after all”.

“You’re right, it is late” says Marin. “Goodbye then” says heading to his bedroom.

Chat is leaping from rooftop to rooftop, using his night vision to search for Marinette, slowly beginning to worry when he's unable to find her at all. Anything could have happened to her as far as he knew. She could have benn kidnapped or she could have fallen into the Seine or other possibilites that frightened Chat Noir enough to avoid thinking about them. He goes to ground level to search on the spots he can't see from above and continues to search for Marinette with a pain on his chest that only worsens each minute he spends without finding Marinette. At last, he sees her from afar, sitting in a park surrounded by bushes, hidden from everyoe thanks to the shadows, but Chat Noir can still see her.

Carefully, he begins to approach her, but before he can enter into the park, he sees his sister go into the park as Kitty Noire. Surprised, he hides without thinking about it, only able to observe how Kitty Noire hugs closely Marinette and then picks her up. Unsure, Chat Noir follows Kittty and Marinette, being careful not to be seen, but also keeping the necessary distance to avoid losing them. Kitty Noire gently leaves Marinette on he balcony and kisses the top of her head before leaving. Chat Noir stays where is for bit until he sees Marinette entering to her room and only then he leaves, getting safely to his bedroom and detransforming.

Needless to say, Adrien couldn't really sleep that night, because he had so much in his mind. First of all, had he been wrong about Marin all the time? He had lately feeling that maybe Marin wasn't the gold digger that he initally thought, maybe he really was just a good guy, he even had stopped picking fights with Adrinen recently. But that guided him to the question about what had possibly changed in Marin to act like that.

He felt remorseful about his behaviour towards Marin and Marinette... But wait, talking about Marinette, why was his chest hurting that much when he couldn't find her? It had never happened to him before. Could it be a heart attack? He was too young for that, wasn't he? And also, what was Kitty Noire doingoutside? Why did she know where Marinette? Why did she seem to know what was going on? So many questions... And yet, the only answers Adrien managed to get was Plagg burping loudly, which made Adrien go away because of the rotten smell of strong cheese.

Molly Hooper found this particular cloudy afternoon oddly quiet and peaceful. Tea, her favorite biscuits and the latest medical journal on the return of old diseases all part of the perfect plan. Since marrying Sherlock Holmes, these days were much rarer than they used to be and she relished them. Settled into her favorite spot on the sofa, she got one sip of her tea before the key in the door broke the silence.

Hmm, Sherlock said he would be gone all day on a case, might not even be here tonight, she thought. But she wasn’t afraid, it's for sure him, is he struggling with the lock? And is that whimpering?

Whatever her thoughts leapt to were nowhere near the reality before her. Yes, her husband indeed came through the door. With both arms loaded with puppies and his face beaming with a massive grin.

Molly could not find words and her jaw threatened to unhinge.

Sherlock’s grin diminished slowly and he swallowed hard.

“Yes, well I realize now that this decision was one of those we make together, am I right? Yes, I think I got that mixed up on this one,” he stammered out quickly.

Molly clamped her jaw shut but then squealed a little when one of the pups started squirming out of his arms.

“For God’s sake-” She whispered.

“I know, I am sorry,” Sherlock apologized.

“For God’s sake put those pups down so I can love on every one of them!” she squeaked out.

Sherlock’s falling face quickly lifted and he bent down, letting all the puppies loose to greet her.

There were six in total and clearly all from the same litter, though their markings were different. They all were black and brown with bits of white.

Molly got down on the floor and four of them rushed to her, climbing and licking at her.

She giggled as they all attacked her face with puppy kisses.

“So...we can keep them?” he asked with hesitation.

“Yes, for now. We’ll have to see once they are adults, but yes. Oh, Sherlock, they are wonderful,” she cooed.

The breed was uncertain, though likely retriever and perhaps a kind of bulldog best Sherlock could surmise. Sherlock found them huddled together in an abandoned building. A man part of his homeless network said the mother had left them once they weaned but they all continued to stay with each other. He told this to Molly as she snuggled the smallest female to her chest.

“Well, they need baths. And a doctor's visit,” Molly sighed.

Sherlock smiled as he picked up two of the pups in his lap while he sat on the floor.  

“They got the doctor's visit, that was first. All healthy and with shots now. But yes, I think baths are in order,” Sherlock said wrinkling his nose as he lifted one of the pups up. They smelled like London to him, both in its best and worst.

“Maybe we can us human body wash until we get-” Molly started to say.

With that, there was a knock at the door, and Sherlock stood and answered it without a word. Molly frowned, holding all the puppies back she could from following him. He closed the door with an armful of dog food and another large bag of supplies.

“Delivery service at its best,” He smirked. “Now you lot…”

All the puppies turned their heads and looked up at Sherlock and Molly let out an “awww”

“It's bath time!” and he headed down the hall to start the water, a trail of pups behind him.

After baths, they played with all the new toys, ropes and balls and stuffed squeaky things that were delivered. Between the big laughter and tiny barks, she is sure the neighbors hated them. Being puppies though, the energy was short lived as they began to yawn and soon two of them fell asleep on a blanket on the floor, one in Molly’s lap and two laid on Sherlock who sat on the sofa. The one still awake was the largest boy; he quietly chewed on a toy before he drifted off to sleep with it still in his mouth.

“Oh Sherlock, I have to take photos this is too adorable for words,” She grinned.

“Shh you are going to wake the children,” He smirked as she started snapping photos on her phone.

Molly felt something stir in her at those words, but she swallowed the thought away, ignoring his eyes which told her he had a similar stirring.

“What is going to name them? I get to name at least half of them,” she stated with a raised eyebrow.

Sherlock narrowed his eyes, “Ok, you can name the three I am not set on the names I thought of.”

“Really you are too much my love,” she shook her head and laughed lightly. “Curious, which ones have you named already?”

“These two on my chest and the one that fell asleep with the toy over there,” He said, nodding in the direction of the distant pup.

Molly smiled softly, “Well then I get the two girls then and the other boy.”

Molly knows she wants to name one Toby, but she wanted to know what Sherlock named his pups first.

“Bruno for this one on my arm, for his work with the art of memory. He reminds me of the dogs of my youth,” Sherlock smiled.  “The one here on my lap, Hobbes. For he seems the most diplomatic of the litter.”

Molly frowned and laughed “Such high brow names for street pups. But I think that works.”

Sherlock swallowed obviously, “The one with the toy I named Toby,” he said softly.

It had been six months since Toby passed from fairly natural causes for an older cat. The wound of his loss felt fresh still and hearing his name out loud brought tears to her eyes immediately.

“If that is ok of course, I unders- “ Sherlock began with concern in his voice.

She stopped him, holding back tears, “Oh Sherlock. It’s fine, and its perfect. I was going to name one that myself if given the chance.”

She placed her hands on his knees and leaned in, giving him a soft and warm kiss of gratitude which he received gladly.

One of the pups woke up at that moment and proceeded to go right in the corner and wee, hardly reacting to the great and sudden protesting by Molly and Sherlock.

He sighed, “That one’s yours to name.”

The two girls were named Sarah and Marie and the other boy Jonas, after Jonas Salk. Sherlock walked the pups but in general was very neglectful of their house training due to the use of puppy training pads. After a few fights with Molly, and multiple walks a day, he broke down and installed a doggie door for them all to use with the bit of garden in the back of their flat.

Even then, the pups quickly grew larger than he expected. When they were all so small, they would whimper and whine and Sherlock would relent, letting them sleep in the bed.

“You are going to regret that Sherlock,” Molly reminded him sleepily at night.

“So would you turn away our child if they had a bad dream,” he wearily said picking up the crying pups.

Molly, half asleep, answered, “That is our kid; that is different.

These discussions happened more readily and easily now, as they naturally make the connections and comparisons. But they don’t go any deeper than this yet.

Soon the puppies grew to about 22 to 27 kg each and that was too much even for their king size bed. Sherlock had to admit defeat when he was shoved out of bed by Toby one night.

“OFF!” he yelled as he leaped up from the floor, scattering dogs off the bed and floor and waking Molly to a jolt.

“Oh God! Sherlock, why are you yelling?” She asked with bleary eyes but he already stormed off into the kitchen and started the kettle with some of the dogs following him.

He rubbed his eyes, and looked down at his pack, Hobbes, Marie and Toby sat expectantly waiting.

And his heart melted again. He sat down, leaning his back against the counter as the pups come up and licked him.

“Ok apology accepted,” he sighed. “But no more dogs on the bed. I’m sorry, new rules and all.”

Toby sneezed in something like disapproval and Sherlock shook his head at him.

“I told you so,” Molly yawned as she shuffled into the kitchen, pulling two mugs down, threw tea bags in and poured the water.

Sherlock frowned at her but did not argue. He scrambled up and finished their tea with lemon and carried his and Molly’s to the coffee table so they could talk.  The other three dogs had wandered sleepily into the living room and found spots to curl up on the rug.

Sherlock and Molly slumped wearily onto the sofa and Sherlock pulled Molly to his side.

“Either we buy a country estate to live at or some of these dogs need a new home,” she quietly said, risking an argument.

To her surprise, he nodded. “I am not sure I am ready for a country estate yet. Yes, it would be best for us and them to find new homes.”

They smiled softly at each other and back to the pups, all back asleep.

“Rosie needs a dog perhaps?” Molly yawned out quietly. “Marie is smallest and the most gentle and she loves Rosie.”

Sherlock agreed. “ And Sarah should go to Mrs. Hudson.”

Molly furrowed her brow a bit and grinned “ Yes. She is the most protective of the group and is easily trained. Mrs. Hudson will love the company I am sure. We’ll ask her.”

“You think Greg might want one?” Molly asked. “He certainly loves playing with them when he comes by.”

Hobbes turned over from his sleep position and began to snore loudly. He was the most bulldog like of the litter and snored louder than any of the others.

Sherlock chuckled quietly, “He can have Hobbes. We’ll not mention the snoring”

Molly poked his side playfully.

“Well that leaves Jonas, Bruno, and Toby,” he said looking at her.

“Toby stays; I think we can agree on that,” She said in a determined voice.

“I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Sherlock said kissing her forehead suddenly. “But he is close to Bruno as well. Can we keep them both?”

Molly nodded, happy to keep the brothers, who both resembled each other the closest.

Sherlock furrowed his brow in thought. “Jonas, who needs you, boy?”

Molly smiled slowly, “Perhaps someone in your homeless network could use a dog to help protect them? He is worst about staying out in the weather and never wanting to come in. maybe a more outdoor life would appeal to him?

Sherlock curled the side of his lips up in thought,  “Yes I think I know just who could use him. I’ll get him to him tomorrow.”

With that settled and the dogs all asleep in the sitting room, Molly and Sherlock sneak back to their bed to get some rest before saying goodbye to the pups the next day.

Sherlock woke to a cold nose in his face. Hobbes is always the hungriest, insisting on his breakfast. Even though he knew it was for the best, his heart felt heavy at the task ahead of them today. They had built a little family of madness with the six dogs, allowing brothers and sisters to remain together. But logic prevailed with both him and Molly. After a quiet breakfast and tea, he took the first pup out of the flat to his new home.

After a brief exchange of fascinating news on the street, Sherlock offered Jonas as a thank you. His contact, usually all business suddenly kneeled and kissed the dog on its head lovingly

“You mean it? Really? I ain't had a pup in years” he said in near tears.

“Take good care of him and he will take care of you. I’ll check on him. Here are some supplies and I’ll make sure he goes to a veterinarian annually at my cost” Sherlock promised.

With that, he left with a gentle scruff of the dog's ears and walked away not looking back. He ignored the twinge as he took each step away.

Back home, Molly had called John and Rosie over.

As predicted Rosie played with Marie the most, and Molly swallowed before asking John.

“We can’t keep all these dogs you know” she whispered

“Yes God it’s whole damn pack, isn’t it? Surprised he has done so well for a year,” John quietly chuckled.

“Yes. And we want good homes for them,” she looked at him with eyes that pleaded he would get her train of thought.

“You want me to take one, don’t you?” John sighed.

“We want to keep them in the family if we can. And certainly, if we ever need to dog sit we will do it,” she reassured.

“We’ll take Marie I like he. She’ s sweet and disciplined,” John said quietly, watching Rosie and the dogs with a far off look. “Maybe that is what we need anyway. “

He stood up, getting Rosie’s attention. “Hey baby girl, how would you like to take Marie home with us?”

Rosie squealed when her dad told her the news, “I get doggy!” and she started jumping up and down.

And when they left Molly kissed the pup’s head and sent her happily following behind Rosie.

Sherlock returned shortly, kissed Molly hello and goodbye at once and picked up Hobbes messaging Greg saying he would meet him with a gift.

Greg grinned, pleasantly surprised to see one of the dogs and not a murder suspect or the like which was more par for the course with Sherlock’s “gifts.”

“You sure, mate?” Greg asked hesitantly.

“Look I need to get rid of some dogs and I want them to go to friends, ok?” Sherlock said with irritation in his voice.

Greg kneeled and rubbed Hobbes behind the ears, “Hobbes, you ready to go, boy?” With that, he got a large tongue nearly in his mouth and Sherlock couldn't hide his snickering. Greg closed his eyes and mouth just in time for Hobbes continued licking. “ok ok OK” Greg said while standing up. He wiped his face with his hand, grabbed the lead and waved to Sherlock as they left the corner.

Sherlock returned once again to their flat with a heavy and emptier heart.

“Time to see Mrs. Hudson now, “ Molly smiled, placing her hand in his and lacing their fingers tightly. Sherlock grabbed the lead for Sarah who followed gently and quietly behind them.

Mrs. Hudson was unsure at first. But Sarah laid her head in her lap and gave the best puppy dog eyes up at her potential new master.

“Oh. Ok, dear, I guess I cannot say no to those eyes. Never can from your now former master, you learned well from him,” she smirked and laughed.

Molly added, “With Sherlock not living here, only here for work, we thought you might like the company.”

“I am sure we’ll get along swimmingly. She is a sweet thing isn’t she?” Mrs. Hudson sighed as she pets her softly on her head.

“Yes but don’t let it fool you. She’s very protective as well.” Sherlock added.

After some tea, they left the last of the litter to leave with her new master, curled up at her feet. Sarah did not give a second look at them when they walked out of the flat.

With all the dogs passed around and only Bruno and Toby left at home, Molly and Sherlock returned to sit and reflect on their new smaller pack.

Sherlock tossed a ball absently for Bruno,  feeling the weight of the day sinking in.

“I know you’ll miss them...but it’s for the best,” Molly tried, working to appeal to both their logical minds.

He shrugged, pouting a bit.

She sighed watching his face fall as he went further into his emotions.

“Let's go to the dog park, that will be good for them both,” she said cheerily, rising and getting their leads.

Sherlock reluctantly stood and grabbed Bruno’s lead from her as they left the flat.

Once at the park, they let the boys off their leads to run and play. They both quickly found another pack of dogs to run and play with. Molly patted the bench she sat at for him to join her.

The cold wind swept across the trees and she leaned into his side, head against his shoulder.

“You are thinking loudly, Molly,” Sherlock said plainly.

She smirked, “ As are you, Sherlock.”

“Imsorry. I realize this might all be a bit, I don’t know, triggering,” She frowned. “ I realize how hard this has been.”

He ignored the tear that threatened and swallowed the lump that suddenly crawled up his throat.

“Thank you for helping me through it,” Sherlock quietly breathed out.

Molly scrunched her face up, “ Not sure how I helped. I almost begged you to stop the whole plan a couple times.”

Sherlock laughed, feeling the weight lift, “Well I think perhaps I knew that and I wasn’t alone in my wishes.”

Molly felt an unsaid wish in her heart. She was unsure if this was the place for it, but it had threatened to spill forth many times before.

“Something feels empty still in our home and life, “ She started, slipping her hand in his.

Sherlock looked down at their hands together, “ I think perhaps it’s time for that conversation, isn’t?”

Molly looked up at his face expectantly.

“Children are so much more than dogs,” he said in a low voice.

She nodded, “ That’s the best part really, I think...I don’t know, it's a new feeling these thoughts.”

Sherlock smiled warmly, placing a hand on her cheek and she leaned into his hand. “I am thankful for new feelings.”

With that said he closed the gap and kissed her, answering with it approval and reassurance. Details will come later, but like everything else, it will be reached together.

Plans

Alright, I asked for a pairing and went with ThunderIronShield (no worries to the person who wrote in WinterIron, I will do one of those tomorrow probably!). So this is just a lil AU in which its Thor’s birthday and Tony and Steve are trying to find a way to celebrate unsuccessfully.

In hindsight asking Loki was a bad plan, its not like he knew anything at all about Thor and his preferences. “He likes snakes,” Loki says entirely unhelpfully.

Steve and Tony exchange a look, knowing exactly what the other is thinking. It doesn’t happen often but here they are. “Yeah, we’re not throwing a snake themed party, what the hell?” Tony asks, shaking his head. Why they thought Loki was a good person to go to he has no idea.

“Well I don’t know what to do, that’s not my problem,” Loki says flippantly before he walks away. Steve shakes his head as he goes, looking a mix of dumbfounded and irritated.

“He does know Thor is his brother, right?” Steve asks and Tony shrugs.

“Pretty sure he doesn’t give a shit about that. What are we going to do though? His birthday is in three days and we have nothing planned.” Its their fault for leaving it so last minute too but also they hadn’t meant to. Its just that Steve got busy with his art show, and Tony had been busy with a new charity project, and then a week ago they realized they had forgotten about Thor’s birthday and now they didn’t have much time to plan. And Loki was as helpful as the shit Tony took this morning.

Steve sighs. “I don’t know. He always does something nice for us and if we don’t do something for his birthday we’ll be the worst boyfriends ever. Like he has two of us and neither one of us has figured something out? Honestly we’re the worst,” he says.

Thor looks exhausted when Steve hands him his tea and Tony leans into his side. He smiles a little and wraps an arm around Tony as Steve sits beside him. Thor leans into Steve, who laughs and wraps his arm around Thor and Tony both. “Work today was awful, why did I think being a lawyer was a good idea?” he says.

No clue, Tony thinks, because the career really doesn’t suit Thor. His father had been a lawyer and Tony suspects Thor has aspirations to be like him before they had a bit of a falling out post discovering Loki was adopted and they also had a crazy sister. Tony can’t say he’s much fond of Hela even if Thor makes an effort to keep connected with her. Loki doesn’t, but loki barely keeps up with Thor so that’s not surprising. He just shows up on their doorstep sometimes looking to be fed like the world’s biggest jackass stray.

“Have you considered taking time off?” Steve asks gently. He��s been waiting a long assed time to say that, Tony knows, but hadn’t said it before because he hadn’t thought Thor was ready to hear it. He guesses that’s changed now.

“Maybe I should,” Thor murmurs. Its that admission that has Tony sitting straight up with an idea. Thor frowns at him and he remembers maybe a little late that he has to keep his cool.

“I forgot to do some paperwork for Pepper,” he lies before he all but runs off.

He sends a text to Steve to let him know he’s got an idea for Thor’s birthday.

When Thor gets up to go to work Steve goes off to collect him while Tony packs their bags into the car. Thor and Steve come around the corner smiling a few moments after Tony gets everything into the car and he grins back. “We’ve got plans,” he tells Thor.

“So I’ve gathered,” Thor says back. “Any chance you’ll let me in on the plans?” he asks.

Tony snorts, “hell no.”

They look over the career page grinning. “You would make a very sexy lumberjack,” Steve says and Thor laughs.

“I’d do that just to watch Tony pick me up from work. He’d spend all his time yelling at nature and threatening to replace the cicadas with robots,” he says.

“I don’t even know what a cicada is so the joke is on you,” Tony tells them when Thor and Steve laugh. 

Thor and Steve exchange the look because they’re freaks who actually like nature. Tony prefers his lab to most other spaces and if he has to suffer with bees and flowers and whatever he prefers Rhodey to be there so he can bond with someone about how much he hates bees and flowers. 

“You don’t know what a cicada is?” Thor asks, frowning. “We need to take him camping,” he tells Steve.

Steve perks up, “well, we all took two weeks off so there’s always next week!” he says excitedly.

“Uh, no. I would rather die than do nature things, you two can go and I will go home and hang out with the cats,” he tells them. “You could always be a cop,” he adds. Steve wrinkles his nose and Thor makes a worried face.

“Loki would steal my badge, gun, and car and go kill a bunch of people. He actually has detailed plans and I don’t want to encourage him,” he says and Tony frowns. How the hell has Loki not been thrown in the looney bin?

“You could be... I don’t know how to pronounce that word,” Steve says, frowning at the screen in front of him.

“I was thinking of going back to school to be a kindergarten teacher,” Thor says. “I love kids, I wouldn’t mind working with them all day.”

Tony grins, “I love kids too!”

Steve wrinkles his nose, “I like other people’s kids. But that sounds a lot more your speed, Thor. And a lot less soul sucking than being a lawyer,” he says.

Thor snorts, “soul sucking is less soul sucking than being a lawyer. Thanks though, for dragging me out here. I needed the time off,” he says. 

“Well, we didn’t have any other plans for your birthday so it worked out!” Steve says enthusiastically, realizing too late that he’s ratted them out.

Damn Steve. “In our defense Loki was no help. His advice was that you liked snakes,” Tony says.

Thor smiles, “I actually forgot it was my birthday so this was a nice surprise regardless. And you should both know better than to ask Loki for advice on anything but where to buy things on the black market. He will give you actual answers, by the way,” he says, shaking his head.

Tony smiles, leaning into Thor at the same time Steve does. “Thank god you’re so easy to please, if this was Tony he would have cried about being in nature,” Steve says.

He makes an offended noise, “I was the one who chose the beach. That isn’t even nature, its pretty and there are no gross bugs trying to kill you. Except the mosquitos but Steve put something around to get rid of them all so you know, those are gone.”

“The beach is nature, Tony,” Thor tells him, laughing.

“Is not. Forest is nature and forest is gross, I don’t go there. Beaches are pretty and you can throw sand. Don’t attempt beach sex though, sand is the glitter of the outdoor sex world and it gets everywhere.” Which is knowledge he doesn’t want but unfortunately has.

Steve and Thor laugh, shaking their heads. “I honestly don’t want to know how you know that, but since its my birthday and you’ve never seen a cicada I feel compelled to find one you can look at,” he says and Tony groans.
