I've seen a good number of people ask a question along the lines of "why do characters like Falin and hate Laios when they're so similar?" and i've also seen good analysis on the differences in how the touden siblings carry themselves that would, despite their shared traits, make a person gravitate to one more than the other.
But i feel like we've overseen one very central thing here.
People don't like Falin
Like... the average person in dungeon meshi doesn't like Falin. She was deeply ostrasized by her home village, in magic school she had zero friends before Marcille and the others generally saw her as strange and a bit offputting.
Characters like Namari and Chilchuck like her well enough but not necessarily more than any other member of their party, including Laios. Neither Kabru nor his party think much of her. The canaries don't give a fuck about her. Toshiro's retainers don't see her as anything else than the weird foreign girl their boss has a crush on.
The reason we think everyone loves Falin is because, despite all the indifferent side characters, the 2 most important and central characters of the story are Laios and Marcille. Who are NOT representative of the average attitudes to Falin! But necromancy georg number 1 and 2 are our main eyes into the story and they love Falin so much that it colours our perspective of the whole world.
The only side character who qualifies as liking Falin and not Laios is Toshiro (at least at first, as he ends the story on much better terms with Laios) and that says a lot about his character, with him drifting to the quiet Falin precisely because of her oddness but being both uncomfortable with and deeply jealous of Laios' much more open expression of that oddness. Because he's a repressed guy from a culture where etiquette is incredibly important.
But like I said, that's a specific aspect of him, not to the world at large.
Because there's also people that click more with laios than with Falin.
Kabru, for one, who is initially distrustful of laios but clearly also deeply fascinated by him and drawn to him.
Minor spoilers, and you don't have to read too deeply into this, because I don't think Kabru particularly dislikes Falin or anything. But it's interesting that when he talks about his distrust of the toudens in ch.32 he's talking about them both. But his big friendship declaration in chapter 76 is aimed squarely at Laios, he doesn't say "you and your sister" he says "you"
And Senshi!! He instantly clicks with Laios, well before he does so with anyone else in the party– who he also becomes friends with, it just takes a bit longer– specifically because they bond over their shared special interest in monsters!! Senshi is kind towards Falin and cares for her wellbeing, but he also... doesn't know her. The reason he is even here, helping to save her, is because he and Laios bonded over monsters and he wants to help his new friends out!
Of course, the theme of neurodivergent isolation is very present in Laios' story. I'm not denying that. He does turn people off, without meaning to and unable to fully understand why! But so does Falin. And just like there are people who like her despite of or even because of those traits, there are people who do the same with him.
In conclusion: "Average person loves Falin and hates Laios" factoid actually statistical error. Average person is neutral on both Falin and Laios. Georcille, Laiorg and Geoshiro, who live in the dungeon and think over 10,000 Falin-loving thoughts a day, are statistical outliers adn should not have been counted.
#dungeon meshi#laios touden#falin touden#yes dungeon meshi is a story about the neurodivergent experience (and many many other things)#but through that lens it is also basically autistic wishfullfillment#where people come to see and appreciate you for who you are and your specific special interest is tantamount to saving the world!#and so OF COURSE the two most obviously autistic characters are going to have people who deeply care about them#both despite and because of their autistic traits!!

My brain started cooking up some potential Cole and Jay angst regarding the whole evil Jay thing. I don't have any specific scenarios figured out, but I had this realization that Cole is the only one of the main ninja (minus Jay I guess) who hasn't learned Rising Dragon. We've seen Jay use Shatterspin.
Basically what I'm getting at is imagine a fight between Cole and Jay where Jay uses Shatterspin and Cole can't really defend himself without Rising Dragon, so instead of fighting back he's trying to dodge and desperately trying to reason with Jay and get him to remember. Meanwhile Jay just continues to sink further and further into his own hatred or something like that.
This might also be a little bit of me coping since I feel like it's unlikely that Cole's gonna be going after Jay next season since it looks like it's just gonna be Kai and Nya going. If it were up to me I'd have it be Nya and Cole since they're the characters closest to Jay, but you know that's just me.
#ninjago#lego ninjago#ninjago dragons rising#ninjago spoilers#ninjago dragons rising spoilers#dragons rising spoilers#jay walker#cole brookstone#bruiseshipping#although if you wanna view this through a platonic lens you can as well#it doesn't matter the type of relationship cole and jay are close so them fighting would be angsty either way#also wanna mention that i think it's unlikely for jay to use shatterspin again#because he doesn't have the gong to do the shatterspin#unless he's able to figure it out without the gong like how nokt does it#but that seems unlikely to happen#but in the world of aus and fanfiction anything can happen lol

Law thought he'd need to change the world to honor Cora's sacrifice
But he was already living Cora's legacy: Simply by being with the people he loves, the family he created for himself in the wake of Cora setting him free
You'd almost expect Law to wander alone for years after Cora's death. And in a different story? I think that's likely what would've happened so the MC could finally show him what love means
But Law met Bepo and the others within a few days of Cora's death
And so Law fulfilled Cora's dying wish — continued to fulfill that wish everyday after that, even — without ever realizing it. There is something so devastatingly beautiful about that
#It's the intrinsic value in all of us#the relationships we create#and how those things truly ARE enough when viewed through the lens of unconditional love#/CLENCHES FIST AND CRIES#To understand what the heart pirates represent; I think you really need to read between the lines#People get hung up on power-scaling but that stuff is honestly SO irrelevant here??#in the same way whether Law would change the world was irrelevant to Cora.#It's simply about how much Law loves them#and how much they adore him in turn 🥹#trafalgar law#hearts pirates#bepo#corazon#donquixote rocinante#one piece#my meta#text post

i honestly think a lot of odd or confused spn takes come from people not appreciating that sam and dean are fucked up in ways that we will never fully understand. none of us have been to hell. none of us have had our parents killed by a demon. none of us have (insert whatever crazy thing theyre going through this season here). you can't expect sam and dean to behave like regular fucked up people, and getting genuinely angry at their (fictional) asses for how they handle things and how they behave is kind of missing the point.
#one thing the show did consistently well is showing levels of fuckery between then that are always believable#they've grown up with an entirely different set of morals and understanding of the world than our world#and through that lens they always make some kind of sense

What I think is so important to learning how to truly appreciate life is learning how to appreciate the creatures and things we've categorized as "disgusting" or "gross."
When I learned to appreciate wasps, I realized how much they just... don't really care about anything, and they're not trying to be an asshole because they're uniquely cruel. If they have any wants, it is to live. Why would I punish that when I also want to live?
This isn't to say you need to fall in love with the creepy crawlies that stalk this world or to love what you cannot, but to recognize that in their arrangement of atoms, they are trying to persevere, and in the end... aren't we all?
#positivity#bugs tw#this is why i think science is a love language btw#learning to love and appreciate through study is still love and appreciation#i've always been fine with bugs which might make this ring hollow to somebody with a phobia#and this isn't saying that people who are phobic of bugs are Evil or dumb (quite the opposite- humans are Good at fearing things)#what this is saying is find something you don't appreciate and learn about why you should appreciate it - for whatever reason#i learned to stop being neutral about bugs when i learned how cool they are - how they live!#i stopped being neutral about this planet when i learned how ancient it is!#i stopped being neutral about humans when i learned about how we lived and survived and loved!#i stopped being neutral about these things because i started to love them because i saw just how intricate EVERYTHING is#when you learn to see things through an appreciative lens you sometimes direct that viewpoint inward#so now instead of viewing myself as outside the universe i see myself and every little bug as PART of the universe#i stopped believing that i almost... wasn't worthy of being Part of Nature when i realized just how big everything is in the scale of it al#you should see my google searches omfg#everything is an argument and boy does this world have the ability to argue so well

I go off about Catholic/christian religious influencers of all kinds and I do so for many reasons but one of the main ones is just. the feeling they’re selling (and it is a feeling and they’re selling it, even if just for views) it doesn’t feel like that for everyone. That whole simplistic set-up of struggle struggle struggle, breakthrough, clarity, emotional peace, tears streaming down the face. That’s not real. Or at least it’s not real much of the time in MANY cases and even when it is real that isn’t the only part or the most important part of having a relationship with God. It’s probably the least important part, the feeling. and so it fills me with RAGE when the emotional part of religion is sold and packaged and paraded and presented on Instagram as “inspiration”! it distorts the whole reality of a relationship with God and puts a literal and figurative Instagram filter over the whole thing.
#I mean. pray in silence where your Father who is in Heaven can see you. like??????#I’m sure I’m getting the direct reference wrong but.#anyways it just bugs me so much because I’m a highly emotional and intense person and religious experiences just aren’t like that for me#and faith isn’t like that for me. and it just isn’t this soft-hearted feel-good thing all the time!!!!!!!! most of the time it isn’t#and it makes me feel sooooooo bad and awful when some Instagram influencer with woman femininity or grace in her handle#shows up in my feed ready to talk about the waters that the Lord has led her through#like I can’t even begin to articulate my own journey with God#nor do I feel compelled to do so. but seeing other people do it makes me feel so instantly awful and alienated#and …. grubby#it makes me feel grubby because I am not seeing the world through soft pastels and lens flares#and because I don’t experience God’s love for me as a feeling#never have probably never WILL#and it’s just upsetting and maddening and I think it’s so bad for the culture#also I’ve started reading a little bit of st. Francis de sales every night#much against my will at first because pretty much all spiritual reading makes me bristle and makes me anxious#but honestly it’s been so good and he finds that kind of insta-influencing DEAD#because it isn’t fake and it isn’t performative and it is practical#and generally it’s realistic and hopeful and simple#anyway just ughhhhhhhhhhhhh. I have so many feelings about this

MiqoMarch Day 26 - Faith
Though she is constantly reminded of her status being blessed by the goddess- Hydaelyn's chosen, as they called it - Arsay maintained a reluctance to allow her fate to be subject to the will of any higher being. Instead it is her friends, her family, whom Arsay puts her absolute faith in. Their bond is the greater gift by far.
#miqomarch#miqomarch 2024#ffxiv#scions of the seventh dawn#ffxiv scions#ffxiv gpose#Hydaelyn's chosen was one of the only titles Arsay never really vibed with#which is for the best since her faith in hydaelyn was honestly on the rocks for a while and even worse after that one reveal in shb#arsay is a summoner and a primal slayer so like#she sees things like gods through that lens mostly#that gods aren't like a set being that exists on some separate plane of reality#they are a myth brought to form through aetheric manipulation#primal summons have always been influenced by the emotional and mental state of the summoner#it is their will that ultimately determines how their god acts when brought forth into the world as a aetheric construct#in the end its the believer in control not the god they believe in#so arsay chooses to believe in her friends and her friends believe in her!#thats how she finds strength in even the most desperate of situations#and yeah arsay admittedly had a bit of egg on her face when the twelve show up and are like well we are actual guys#in her defence literally how was she supposed to know#WOL posting#Arsay Nun

I will say on re-watching the episode I think a thing that got a little obscured after it first streamed is that Deanna and F.R.I.D.A don't actually agree completely on either the resurrection or the gods. Deanna is definitely having trouble adjusting to being alive again but it's F.R.I.D.A who calls it selfish. Who believes that it is unjust that she was brought back.
And I think that the implication of disagreement there is because I do think Deanna would understand why she was brought back. She doesn't sound angry when she says her husband kept a promise. When she's angry she can be a bit passive aggressive: see 'I didn't get a carved anything' or 'I can't see why he couldn't raise the kids.' She talks about the promise the same way she talks about dying. It happened, what's done is done. I think ultimately Deanna is just someone who's only had a year or two to adapt to come back from an existence that was fundamentally different to a life that is gone (or at least irreversibly changed).
Which is also the reason that she clings to the magic of the Dawnfather. I think as much as Deanna believed the gods may be seperate from the afterlife- she has to connect them very strongly with life. A cleric, a healer, someone who was literally brought back from the dead. F.R.I.D.A's take on the gods makes sense for me as a Aeormaton. They weren't created by the Gods. Regardless of whether the Gods love the beings they created or not- F.R.I.D.A is removed from that equation altogether. And even thinking of the beings that did create F.R.I.D.A - in theory there was no love there. F.R.I.D.A was made to fulfill a purpose. Being turned off was probably the first time since they were created that they were free of that purpose. To them not having to perform a function is equivalent to rest and peace.
I like the way Christian Navarro plays F.R.I.D.A it reminds me of Dorfl from Feet of Clay
#i don't know#i saw a lot of people saying that just because they sounded wise didn't mean they were right and like that's true but also I don't think#either the players or the characters wanted to sound right#i think deanna and f.r.i.d.a believe what they're saying because their experiences are the lens through which they relate to the world and#they've had weirder experiences than most#deanna leimert#f.r.i.d.a#cr3 ep52

Names are so vital. So important and held to who a person is and gods Claude who has known Jericho through being far closer to Simon than himself now; through Jericho and the taking of his FACE through having to take in the mind of bloody fucking Martin. If names bring power, what sort of humanity does it draw out of a person when they’ve seen you try on a good couple. Maybe I’m just in my own head about this but truly, there are versions and layers of learning and change to the Jericho we know now, and after a certain point? If we move past his childhood? Claude has been there for nearly all of them besides the tubs. When he lost Kassie there was someone else and this one hasn’t LEFT through his learning and hasn’t died through him stumbling into the world and overall at his side. He has truly been one of the people closest to him. One of the closest you could get, at the very least, when you wear the face of a tormentor and feel your gut twisted by their own memories of their hatred of you or how you her them, and you can’t remember a world without that hurt. I’m never going to heal from these two I swear it.
(also the taking of Martin’s face is destructive to my mental health rip someone please save me it ruins me every time I remember it, n WONDER he had brother issues dude)
#city of blank#like seriously tho imagine being Claude and watching this man you died for break down#as he has to relive memories of his own torment THROUGH THE ASSAILANTS LENS. Like wtf dude I’d lose it#Claude is sat there at his side. Likely still helping coax him into showers as he’s growing skin.#Likely helping him find ways to stay clean and get up in the morning. Claude knows how to clean up without the energy for a shower#we’ve all been sad like that before. He gets that. He knows that. And fuck I hate how his apathy likely trained him for this#for helping someone take little steps into a world that has never welcomed him and actively hurt him#to teach him humanity and whatever he would let himself be taught. To grow into himself and not just into Martin’s skin.#AND THEN he watched him heal from being blown up and was there in the jungle shit and likely as Jericho’s red blank space came in like that#like. He has seen SO MANY VERSIONS of this man and stuck around for each one#i fucking love him. Symbol of bloody loyalty. Through thick and fucking thin. He has supported Jericho since the dawn of his second life#and he’ll continue to do so in as much time as the world will give him. No matter if it costs him an arm and a leg#or his family. Or normalcy. Because he doesn’t want normal he wants jericho. And that man is always pulled away from normal#by the very same world that has told him since birth that “normal” isn’t achievable for him#im actually distraught over them like im gonna sob i blame 66 this shit is too good#root rambles#jericlaude#claude cob#jericho cob#kinda long mb

my favourite writing device is having an un-Rei-liable narrator
#rei#volo#cheren#// tikposting#// character meta#the crowd booes me off the stage#forgive the pun XDDD his name is too easy to pun on#the way i write it it's not a conscious choice. it's just how the pov character (rei) experiences and contextualises the world#revealing backstory and personality and mindset through narration !!!!#not necessarily out of malice it's just. how he views things#interpreting new and foreign experiences through the lens of what came before...#conversations which read differently to different people.#in the context of rei that's stuff like unease around authority figures#always choosing his words carefully to project an image of competence (he has to be needed)#distrust and not taking things at face value but also paradoxically a fragile and nurtured sense of almost blind optimism#when it comes to friendships. like volo. (everyone turned on me when the sky turned red but it all resolved itself in the end didn't it?)#(what makes this different? / a lot of things. / i choose to believe)#volo [directly]: “i won't be stopped from my goal” rei thoughts: we can work with this!!!!#and everything with Arceus too and his divine blessings and a plan that will work out in the end#if Rei can just... figure out what part he's meant to play. interpreting events as a narrative hurtling towards some unknown conclusion#i am talking about rei here specifically but this writing device is so good in general#would be fun to try get inside volo's head. there's so much going on there i don't understand yet#quite fond of that one analysis post about how volo lacks emotional intelligence and sees relationships as transactions#not necessarily out of malice it's just how he views things. whether because of past experience or brain chemistry#also need to give a shout to cheren my guy who is an outsider pov who projects his own experiences onto new things so that he Understands#(an outsider to Hilbert and N's clash of truth and ideals. life changing experience and knowledge but felt just a little off to the left)#(the narrative repeated again with new heroes. all he can do is help them but it falls on their shoulders in the end)#(no wonder he tries to insert himself into Situations)#anyway tag ramble over feel free to also ramble to me about your takes XD#rei pokemon

vaguing a post that's on my dash that I don't want to engage with (as usual) but actually no CPTSD isn't a diagnosis for 'when things were a tiny bit bad a lot' or 'if you experienced relationships that were toxic but not abusive' it's a diagnosis describing the impacts of CONTINUOUS TRAUMA. not less significant but more frequent trauma; trauma which is ongoing/continuous/recurring in developmental years.
like I'm not trying to gatekeep here and I recognise the value of saying 'it doesn't have to be a Single Big Obvious Trauma' because one key thing about CPTSD is that generally it makes traumatic incidents Your Normal so you don't necessarily view them as unusual or concerning. but I often see people talk about CPTSD as if it implies smaller individual incidents than PTSD and that just is not the case.
most experiences I have seen people be diagnosed with CPTSD for (myself included) are not 'a little bit toxic'. they are things which, each incident taken separately, an outsider would still recognise as traumatic - medical emergencies, rape and sexual abuse, significant physical violence, emotional abuse and coercive control, homelessness, severe poverty, war, torture, etc - and the thing that makes the PTSD C is not the relative level of the trauma, but the fact that it's enough of a repeated and consistent pattern, at an early enough stage, and sufficiently embedded in everyday life, that it becomes a person's baseline for 'normal'.
CPTSD is not a synonym for emotional microtraumas or cumulative trauma or 'death by a thousand cuts'. It's specifically defining the psychological differences in response to long term formative trauma as opposed to traumatic events which you process as an aberration (eg the difference between regular violence against you from trusted adults in childhood vs being physically abused for the first time in adulthood with existing experience of healthy relationships). Traumas causing CPTSD tend to be pretty similar in type, scale and severity to traumas causing standard PTSD - they are just more embedded and normalised earlier in life.
all this to say there's nothing wrong with acknowledging that cumulative microtraumas can affect us in traumatic ways. there's nothing wrong with pointing out that there's a broad range of types of trauma, and trauma can include stuff like growing up marginalised or ill as well as abuse, war, injury or immediate loss. there's nothing wrong, too, with acknowledging that a lot that is traumatic doesn't necessarily feel traumatic to you.
but like. no. CPTSD is not a diagnosis for people whose trauma wasn't 'big enough' for PTSD. CPTSD is not cumulative microtraumas. CPTSD is a response to formative macrotraumas or to a long term traumatic situation without hope of escape or change and if you want to talk about microtraumas then do that but it's not what CPTSD is!
#red said#this has really pissed me off sorry I've seen several people post things like this#so this post just tipped me over#but like. goddamn. cptsd is not microtrauma.#and there are benefits to encouraging people to think of things as potentially traumatic before they're ready to register them as harm#but imo that's counterbalanced by the fact that again a major part of CPTSD for a lot of people is that we Think Severe Trauma Is Normal#so i do not think it's USEFUL to AGREE that CPTSD is a diagnosis describing the buildup of Small Normal Microtraumas#when it's generally a response to LARGE HORRIFYING trauma that KEEPS HAPPENING#listen ok so PTSD might describe an adult's response to being posted into a warzone or having their home unexpectedly attacked#CPTSD might describe a child who grew up in a warzone and struggles to feel safe into adulthood bc they have no experience of a safe world#they're both significant traumas but one is an interruption of the way you thought the works works#and the other is the only lens you have to view the world through#but crucially NEITHER ARE MICROTRAUMATIC AND THAT'S NOT WHAT THE COMPLEX IN CPTSD MEANS

Funny how all it takes is a couple of conversations with a cis straight man about gender to make me go "yup I'm definitely not cis"
#listen I adore my stepfather ok but he's got a pretty traditional view of gender#he's very respectful of others and doesn't enforce it on anyone else#and I think it's not that toxic all things considered bc he sees 'manhood' as being primarily about being hard working and protecting other#but it's still very gender essentialist#and he sees a lot of things as 'man things' and 'woman things'#and talks about skills and roles that are 'men's'#and I'm just like well but I do a lot of those things. but I identify with a lot of the things you describe.#and he tries to go around it like 'ahh well but you have personal history with that' etc etc#we get along really well tho we don't fight or anything but it's interesting to me#it makes me realize just how much I'm outside of the binary in the eyes of cis people#and how much 'trying to be a man' or 'trying to be a woman' are things that hold no emotional meaning to me(personally)#I could not care less what makes me masculine or feminine or if either of those labels are revoked for some reason#taking on the label of woman or man feels like a burden to me bc it always comes with a set of expectations#I just wanna be me yk. I just want people to see me through the lens of 'this is a person'#'this is what this person likes. this is how this person behaves'#I just wanna turn off gender. can I do that? like just flip a switch and no one perceives me as anything anymore#in a perfect world maybe#sleep.txt#I honestly still don't fully understand how I feel about gender but. I know that I don't like being put into a box#the box is Evil.
