Ok so unhinged pattern recognition moment. Im thinking abt nademono and kimi to nadeko at the same time and am overlapping features or concepts to the settings. Is Ougi supposed to parallel the ML of kimi to Nadekko.

Like Ougi doesn’t carry the prince aura but does act familiar, has a sudden appearance, is a secret childhood friend, is vaguely recognizable in a way Nadeko can’t quite remember, and is associated with both bike + vehicle. This parallels interestingly bc Nadeko finds him so like weird and irritating in the arc itself. Another bizzare stretch I’ve made is that Nadeko doesn’t really have many visual beach parallels but when driving Nadeko to senjougahara’s place they drive by a beach and Nadeko visualizes her feelings of being lost by showing shy Nadeko in uniform wandering on a beach (symbolism I think they put in the bag for later tbh). Nadeko’s primary manga ML picks up Nadeko and takes her to a beach and dotes on her before driving her back. Nadeko even gets childhood friend evidence by the end. Nadeko is also supposed to find that character kind of weird or annoying for light tsundere moments

I think the theoretical twisting of said canonical fantasies is interesting bc of how Nadeko is generally uninterested in parallel IRL, is fun to show as the concept of fantasies is generally a intrinsic theme for the character of Nadeko. Like how the teacher ML is like always just showing up in places to be mean to Nadeko and is never really portrayed as a character she’s attracted to by the manga but is in fact supposed to be the tertiary ML. Having a tertiary sadist teacher ML character that she forgets to write in any meaningful way outside of “*smirks* I’m gonna punish you for academic negligence…” and then just, not lean into that fantasy at all is funny to me. Like he just yells at her and she leaves after the first chapter. The trope I feel doesn’t get broken by nademono is the secondary ML’s whole thing of being like a younger kuudere “malewife” childhood friend who “she thought of as family but maybe not?” Because I’d say the closest character Nadeko could know to that is like, yotsugi which has something else happen. And even after that the third ml shows up for a home visit to scold her while the second ML is present.

Anyway I think that the concept of Ougi imitating that prince like character and Nadeko having no interest is really funny.

My new favorite hobby is thinking about prison trio rarepairs/crackships that are actually extremely compelling upon closer inspection. For example:

Dream and Ponk absolutely should hook up. They bond over bitching about Sam. During Daedalus, Dream politely inquires as to Sam’s relationship status. (“Pathetic and single? Hm. Interesting.”) Then he solemnly tells Sam he’s got a girlfriend. (“she’s missing an arm, I’m missing fingers, we make it work 😘. Maybe you should work on your fit 💅”)

George and Quackity. IT WOULD BE SO FUNNYYYY. HEAR ME OUT. They have a good dynamic and the sheer quantity of dramatic irony is breathtaking. Insane. The tension between Q and Sapnap only makes it better.

Similarly, George and Sam, but this time where they’re both painfully aware of each other’s claim to Dream. The tension! The drama! Sam owns the prison, that dark pit that George cannot touch even in his dreams. And George owns the bright places, the community house, the things about Dream that Sam tries so hard to ignore or forget.

Punz and Sam, and also Punz and Quackity. Like, come on, Punz as a guy without clear loyalties is pretty neutral and safe and approachable! He and Sam had some kinda dynamic going on, and he and Q totally could’ve gotten some bonding in post-egg. The delicious spice here is not only Punz’s true loyalties to Dream, but also the way that he has true loyalties at all—there’s a lot going on with him under the surface that neither Quackity nor Sam would be privy to. Does he suspect any foul play at the prison? Does he remain blissfully unaware? Either is so ripe with possibility!

Wilbur and Sam. Look I just think it’s really funny that they both had the “kill Dream over and over” fantasy, okay. Also, I think the way that they operate on totally different levels is fascinating: Wilbur out in the open, everything a deliberate performance, while Sam prefers strict secrecy. Wilbur can understand and play upon peoples’ emotions without thought or effort; Sam is the precise opposite of an empath. Both of them have control issues, but on completely scales and in completely different directions. I want to put them in a room together and study them.
