on the lil rebellions from love:

#the way the salute is old and rarely used but they all do it for her#(someone who chooses someone else above herself and reflects back what the games and the volunteer system was meant to do in the first#place: breaking those bonds of loyalty/trust)#the way it’s a goodbye to someone you love and the first times we see it are there when katniss is on stage#when rue dies and in district 11 when katniss and peeta are on tour#the way the entire rebellion starts from a little act of love either given to katniss or given by katniss#even the mockingjay pin being something madge gives her as a district token#(the token once belonging to her aunt that died in one of the games and something that was#passed along her family. and madge gives it to katniss so that katniss has a physical reminder that people care for her.)#the way the mockingjay’s imagery and the bird’s tie to the rebellion isn’t even on purpose#and all katniss being forced into being a symbol of the rebellion against her will as the mockingjay when all she wanted was to save prim

this + my thoughts from this post where i talk about how the salute being old, rare, and used in funerals as an affectionate gesture only to later be revitalized as a symbol of unity and the rebellion which thus shows the importance of compassion.. the way katniss's open grief and bed of rest for rue and the subsequent bread district 11 sends her is something that rebels against the capitol's needs for a disjointed nation.. even the hanging tree song that katniss sings because pollux asks her to being an act of rebellion because the song had been outlawed...... her speech in district 2
