if it wasn't annoyingly obvious by now, your eyes had one destination this whole trip, and that was on choi seungcheol, your older brother's best friend.

you and mingyu's family had gone on a weekend trip to an expensive beach house to celebrate your college graduation, and you had been all over seungcheol ever since he showed up to the front door step of your house. as much as seungcheol pretended to deny it, he couldn't help but admit that he thought the way that you wanted to be all over him was adorable.

you had liked seungcheol ever since he and mingyu were seniors in high school: as mingyu's best friend, he came home after school often, and you stared at him like he had hung the sun in the sky.

it was an unspoken rule that seungcheol had made years ago when he noticed how pretty you were─you were mingyu's younger sister, and dating you would be weird, especially since you were almost three years younger than him.

no matter how hard seungcheol worked to uphold the promise he had made, you made it extremely hard, especially when you were so confident and direct in what you wanted. seungcheol found that aspect of you so attractive, and as much as he pretended to be shy and reserved about you, his patience was wearing thin.

as you stared at seungcheol's shirtless figure, trying your hardest not to gape at his muscled back and arms, you thought to yourself how you would let seungcheol know what you wanted. it was obvious to everyone how much you wanted seungcheol (even mingyu knew your schoolgirl crush)─everyone except seungcheol.

the sun was starting to set, shimmering in the pool's water as mingyu came up from under the surface, hair like a mop on his head as he laughed. your mother and father were somewhere inside, probably up to no good, leaving you, mingyu, and seungcheol to do whatever you want. mingyu had just exclaimed that he was getting hungry, waddling out of the pool like a confused penguin as he hastily wrapped a towel around his dripping waist and sloppily sprinting inside the house.

seungcheol leaves the pool seconds later, chest glistening with water as he dries his light pink hair. the chain around his neck winked at you, and you couldn't help but sigh to yourself, watching as seungcheol shook his head at mingyu, saying something to him that you didn't even bother registering.

"hey, seungcheol." you call out, watching proudly as seungcheol’s deep brown eyes lock on your figure. you chose your favorite bathing suit (knowing good and well it was seungcheol's favorite too), lounging on a chair as you smile to yourself, getting a great idea. deciding to be a menace, you hang out a dry towel to him, dangling it in front of him like it’s a million dollars.

seungcheol does nothing, watching you with eyes filled with conflicting emotions as you tilt your head to the side. “what? you want the towel?”

“yeah, i want it.” seungcheol answers, a smirk on his face as he approaches you. his wet footsteps resound throughout the patio, and you don’t back down when seungcheol stops inches in front of you, dark brown eyes locked on your figure.

it was moments like this that seungcheol wanted nothing more but to cup your face in his hands and give you a long, hard kiss. you teased him with everything you did, every glance playful and every question teasing; it made him go insane, having to be the bigger person and ignore your advancements on him. all he wanted to do was make you his, but he had a promise to keep. you weren’t going to make him break it.

“come and get it, cheol. i know you can.” your voice has dropped in volume, now a teasing whisper as you let the towel sway back and forth in your hands. seungcheol stares at you, feeling the tension in the air as he tries to snatch the towel away from you. you’re quicker than him, and swiftly hide it behind you, causing seungcheol to lose his chance at victory over you and your teasing. 

“you drive me insane.” seungcheol’s sentence comes out as a breathy chuckle, but he means it with all the seriousness in the world. you did drive him insane, teasing him and toying with him like you had all the power in the world. at this moment in time, you did have all the power in the world, and seungcheol wanted so badly to take it from you in one fell swoop.

“just like you do to me.” you slyly tap the tip of seungcheol’s strong nose, reveling in the way he squints at you as you throw him the towel. finally standing up with your items, you stare at seungcheol for a second longer, studying every feature of his face you can in a few seconds. Without another word, you give seungcheol a wink, disappearing back inside to silently bask in your victory over seungcheol.

little did you know, seungcheol had finally reached his end. he wanted you, and he was going to get you, one way or another.

after a delicious dinner and competitive game night, you had returned to your room, finally settling down to go to sleep. you had been distracted all night, and even your mother noticed it, not able to hold back a chuckle when she saw you and seungcheol exchanging wanton glances at each other the whole game. you would be lying if you weren’t staring at every movement seungcheol made, studying the way his veins flexed when shuffling through uno cards, or his sweet chuckle when laughing at a stupid move mingyu made.

you and seungcheol had been toying with each other all night, both eager to get the other one to break. seungcheol was losing at the moment, enamored with everything you did─he noticed how your fingers would linger on his forearm for a few seconds longer than usual, and your tone became soft and pliable when speaking of him. it was cute, seeing seungcheol melt with the simple tactics you used. 

if he wasn’t going to make the move, someone had to spur him on, right?

a knock brings you back from dreamland, and you stand up from your bed, heading to the door and opening it to reveal the topic of your night standing in a tank top way too tight and shorts that barely touched his knees. his light pink hair was dry from the shower he had taken earlier, and he didn’t say anything for a few seconds, brown eyes boring into you as you smiled at him seconds later.

“what a pleasant surprise,” your body language says it all─you’re excited to see seungcheol. you can’t stand still, fidgeting with your hands as seungcheol bites back a smirk. you weren’t all flirty remarks and coy glances.

“this shouldn’t be a surprise. i came for my shirt.” seungcheol says, and you laugh, secretly surprised that he remembered. during the road trip, mingyu spilled red juice all over your white top, causing you to have a wardrobe malfunction in a gas station ten minutes later. seungcheol (being the angel he is) lent you one of his shirts, and you couldn’t help but smile to yourself once you got back in the car, knowing you had gotten one of seungcheol’s shirts without even having to ask.

“can’t i keep it? it’s just one shirt─you’re so rich i bet you have ten of these.” you laugh breathily, and seungcheol laughs with you, actually letting go as he shakes his head.

“why do you have to be so difficult?” seungcheol’s stepped a bit closer now, body blocking the view of the other side of the door. his voice was low, eyes searing hot on your skin as he slowly tucks a strand of hair behind your ear. slightly fazed by the gesture, you step back, luring seungcheol into your room even more as he catches the memo, closing it behind him.

“you know, i’ve been waiting for this moment for a while now.” seungcheol says, voice setting your whole body on fire as you let his hands ghost over your hips. 

“have you really?” you ask, and seungcheol nods, a sly smirk on his face as he chuckles.

“i have. you're such a fucking tease.” seungcheol curses, and you giggle, cheeks heating up at his sentence.

“you are terrible at hiding your emotions.” seungcheol laughs aloud, and you can’t help but laugh with him, tempted to reach your fingers out and run them through seungcheol’s soft pink hair.

“and i bet you’re terrible at kissing.” you tease playfully, looking seungcheol dead in the eyes as he tilts his head to the side, raising his eyebrows at you as he lowers his voice to a whisper.

“really? want to test that theory out?” seungcheol poses, now too far to go back. he was finally getting what he had waited so long for, and you were waiting for him to get it, patient as you lead him on.

“only if you take the lead,” you whisper, and seungcheol nods, glancing down at your lips once more before finally kissing them, taking all the confidence out of you in a single sigh as he chuckled after pulling away.

all of this to say, seungcheol was a very good kisser.

Yes and no. Fun Facts and Scrapped Stuff

So this post was originally going to be just some funny fun facts or whatever, but then I got into looking at the old edits in the past of the google docs for the AU, and I felt like talking about a lot of the things that were changed, as well as some fun facts too

Here we go

If a human were to ever be corrupted, it wouldn't turn them into a zombie like creature like it does with monsters. Due to humans having natural, uncorrupted determination, they would be infected, but the effects would be almost purely psychological, with maybe some physical affects. They'd be reached out to by Chara in a similar way they reach out to Frisk through the acolytes in chapter 89

Idk if I ever mentioned this but I did consider bringing the Fun Gang from Deltarune into the plot, mostly just as a fun what if sorta thing lmao

Fang was originally gonna have a different name, but also have Fang as a sort of chosen name. I don't remember what the other name was

The chapters around where Fang learns that Sans killed his friend were rewritten and scrapped at least three times. At first it would involve some of Fangs guys saving an innocent monster, then learning of something that way, the other two were similar to the final one, but ultimately scraped and rewritten

Initially when Fang let's the two monsters go, he would've said something about armageddon coming or whatever, but I didn't like that, and it didn't line up with his character later on, so I rewrote it

The chapter "Not Always Right" gets it's name as a reference to this song from State of Decay 2

I think Papyrus would've originally been a commander, because I remember thinking of a track called "Commander Papyrus" or something like that, where it would be kinda like Bonestrife from Glitchtale. Glad I didn't do that

I've written 2 alternate scenarios for the AU, one where Papyrus dies early on when Undyne's spear hits him instead, and one where instead of seriously wounding Toriel, Frisk accidentally kills her. Neither will be expanded on, though, and they're both really short

I originally envisioned the acolyte's as being a genuine cult of sentient corrupted that wore robes and shit, stereotypical cult stuff lmao

I wanted to do the final fight in the Saviorlovania chapter for a long time, but I couldn't think of the context for it until later on into the story

There were smaller changes I made when finalizing the story, like Asgore drinking tea at the beginning instead of reading a book, simple stuff to make things feel more in character

There are several entirely scrapped chapters. One was about the Ruins, and it would've been the chapter after "Costume Party Preparations", it would've followed Toriel, Flowey, and Napstablook. The chapter was then scrapped for another one where it would have Alphys already preparing to renovate and open up the lab, instead of that coming later. Another one would've been a short chapter with very few words, hinting at Fang coming to Snowdin during the time Frisk lived with Sans and Papyrus

There was originally a 2 day time jump in the chapter "Opening the Gateway to Hell" instead of a 1 day time jump in "Spear of Justice"

The chapter name "Hope Prevails" is another reference to a song from State of Decay

Montgomery Clift on TCM 6/15

Turner Classic Movies has made their daytime theme on June 15th, the man, the myth, the legend, Montgomery Clift! I am extremely excited because I love Clift as an actor and have been learning more about the man he was too!

Some of these films I have seen, others will be my first watch! Here is the line up for Monty’s films on Monday!

6:30 AM - The Search

An American soldier in post-war Europe rescues a homeless child and becomes attached to him.

Also Starring - Ivan Jandl, Aline MacMahon, Wendell Corey, and Jarmila Novotna

DVR Alert - This film is one of my favorite Monty films because it shows how gentle a leading man can be. He also plays so well with the child actor Ivan Jandl, and the bond on the screen feels organic. 

Fun Fact - Clift saved this film. He rewrote a lot of the script and made it better. Unfortunately, he isn’t credited for his contribution so he didn’t get to share in the joy of the film winning Best Writing for A Motion Picture Story at the Oscars.

8:30 AM - The Big Lift

The story of two Air Force sergeants who find love while overseas to fly the Berlin Airlift. 

Also Starring - Paul Douglas, Cornell Borchers, Bruni Löbel, and O.E. Hasse

Personal DVR Alert - I have never seen this film and excited to watch it for the first time!

Fun Fact - Monty was able to make this film because he dropped out of Sunset Blvd. Rumor has it, Libby Holman, his older actress lover, thought the film was too close to home and talked him out of doing it.

10:45 AM - I Confess

A priest is accused of murder and the only way to clear his is name is to break the seal of the confessional, which he won’t do.

Hitchcock DVR Alert - This is a highly underrated Alfred Hitchcock film. It is so suspenseful because the audience knows the truth and is on edge the whole time.

Fun Fact - The movie doesn’t mirror the original play 100 percent. The reason is because the censors would have had a fit if the film depicted the priest and his lover having an illegitimate child and the priest being hung at the end. 

12:30 PM - From Here to Eternity 

A private is punished by his captain for not boxing on his team’s unit and at the same time, the captain’s wife and second in command are having an affair.

Also Starring - Burt Lancaster, Deborah Kerr, Donna Reed, Frank Sinatra, Philip Ober, and Ernest Borgnine

A Must Watch DVR Alert - This is probably my favorite Monty film. The ensemble cast is fantastic and the story is just a very interesting one. Clift is also at his best in this film (not just physically, I promise haha). If you aren’t a fan of war films, watch this one. It is more character driven and is technically before the US joined the war.

Fun Fact - Clift was dedicated to his character Prewitt so much that he learned how to play the bugle (he was dubbed though) and took boxing lessons. 

2:45 PM - Indiscretion of an American Housewife

A married American woman tries to break off her affair with an Italian-American professor before she leaves Italy’s  Stazione Termini - or Terminal Station. 

Also Starring - Jennifer Jones, Gino Cervi, and Richard Beymer

Slight DVR Alert - The version being shown is the shorter version. I will explain in the Fun Fact section why there are two versions. I like the longer version better, but feel like both versions are worth a watch.

Fun Fact - Jennifer Jones’s husband, David O Selznick, decided to cut Director Vittorio De Sica’s version of this film for American audiences. Selznick’s version is 72 minutes and De Sica’s version is 89 minutes. The added time fleshes out some plot points and makes the film flow better. 

4 PM - Raintree County

A man jilts his childhood love for a Southern Belle, but their relationship is a complicated one due to her past and the on-set of the Civil War.

Also Starring - Elizabeth Taylor, Eva Marie Saint, Nigel Patrick, Lee Marvin, and Rod Taylor

Eh DVR Alert - This film is beautifully filmed, but it is long and not very interesting. It has been a while since I last saw it, so maybe I need to revisit it.

Fun Fact - This was the film that Clift was making when he had his infamous car accident. It is noticeable what was shot pre-accident and what was shot post accident. Clift’s face changed a bit, due to surgeries.

Snap - Sam Wilson (SPOILERS FOR ENDGAME BELOW THE CUT)

Trapped beneath a collapsing building you had to consider for a moment how you got there. Well, you knew how you got there. The snap had worked, as far as everyone could tell. And then the sky opened up and Thanos’ ships rained fire down on you. As you came to, trapped beneath what used to be a piece of floor, you couldn’t help wondering if this was worth it. The same thought had run through your mind in Wakanda, as you stood on the plains, was all this really worth it? What did all this fighting matter if you just kept losing?

And yet, when Steve approached you about helping them bring back the ones who had disappeared in the snap you hadn’t hesitated to join the effort. You hadn’t needed to be asked five years ago, you’d willingly gone to Wakanda. What was the saying? “Where you lead...”

“Hey!” Someone called your name and you recognized Rhodey’s voice over the ringing in your ears. You could feel the blood marring the right side of your face, mingling from a cut on your forehead and your ear, which was bleeding freely. “Stay with me.” He tore the ear piece from your right ear as he held you against him.  

“Sam...” your voice wavered as Scott spoke over you, telling them he had a way to get out of the collapsed building.  

“It’s James kiddo.” Rhodey replied, keeping his arm around you as Scott clicked over the panel on his arm.  

“No...I heard him, I heard Sam.” You replied.  

“Okay.”

“No I did.”

“It’s okay, I believe you.” Rhodey reassured but you could hear the disbelief in your voice and could imagine what he was thinking. Maybe you hit you head too hard when you were buried inside the Avengers Compound. Maybe you were hallucinating. There had been plenty of nights that you woke up in a cold sweat, convinced that Sam was still there, that if you walked into the kitchen you would find him at the refrigerator sneaking orange juice from the container.  

“Here we go.” Scott held you close as he enlarged himself, bringing you through miles of rubble to the battle above ground. The air felt like it was choking you and you took a few deep breaths as you landed, trying to figure out where you were and what was happening. The overwhelming sound of blasts took over and you could make out something forming in the air around Steve.  

“Shit...” Rhodey breathed beside you, “shoulda stayed underground.”

“Where’s the fun in that?” You tried to joke but your voice sounded hallow even to you.  

As the energy around Steve revealed itself to be Dr. Strange’s rings you headed down the slope to join Captain America, regaining your footing as you reached him. The ringing had gone down, now it was only the sounds of the ships in the sky that assaulted your hearing. “It worked Steve.” You said, watching as Okoye walked through a portal with T’Challa and Shuri. “It worked.”

You helped Steve to stand as something flew passed, drawing your eye as it circled back around to land beside you. Sam. You would have loved to say that the sake humanity had driven you to Wakanda five years ago but it was Sam. You had to be there with him, you’d do anything for him, including going up against a titan. Attempting time-travel, going to space, fighting for five years. It was all worth it. Everything you had done since the incident on the Potomac had been for him first. And when you lost him you’d felt like it had been for nothing.  

But there was no time for happy reunions in the middle of a massacre. There was only one thing that governed you in that moment, the defeat of Thanos. It was like a whirlwind, all the parts of you that felt like they were breaking down or bleeding were only lending to your determination. Hit after hit, you existed just to fight and so did Sam. You couldn’t even allow yourself a moment to look his way, knowing you would falter. But you could hear his voice over the fighting and you knew he was there. Really there. Not just an apparition at midnight but a real person, back from the dead. Back from the snap.  

You felt like you were drowning in the battle but you tried to hold on. Tried to follow the instruction in your ear...breath. Breath.  

“Looks like we can finally breath.”  

You turned toward the voice, arm raised to shield your eyes from the sunlight. How you got here from yesterday was hard to say but somehow you had. You had been sorting through debris with Maria, everyone still in their gear, exhausted but too afraid to rest. It was over but you couldn’t quite trust that knowledge...not anymore. You looked down from the pile of debris you stood on to see Sam standing at the bottom, wings tucked away but his pack still on him.  

You slid down the debris and quite literally launched yourself into his arms, throwing your arms around his neck and hugging him to you. “God, I missed you so much.” You said, feeling the tears in your eyes.  

“Hey, hey, it’s okay. It’s alright babe, I’m right here.” He tried to sound reassuring and tough but his voice wavered and when you pulled away you could see he was teary-eyed as well. It had been a whole five years of emotional build-up to this moment for you but for him it’d felt like no time had passed at all. One moment he was in Wakanda fighting Thanos and the next Doctor Strange was pulling them through a portal to the Avengers Compound and he was still fighting Thanos.  

When it was over, when it was clear that Thanos was defeated Sam had hesitated in finding you. Everything happened so fast and Tony became the main focus in the minutes and hours immediately after the battle. He’d seen you, sure, but he couldn’t bring himself to approach you. He couldn’t explain it, even to himself, but there was this underlying feeling of guilt gnawing at him. How could he have let the snap happen...how could he have dragged you into all this with no guarantee of a win and then abandon you for five years.  

“There was nothing any of us could have done to stop what happened, it just needed to play out this way.” Steve had been quick to point out when Sam mentioned his hesitance to his friend.  

“I let her down.” Sam replied honestly, “I can’t shake that feeling.”

“It could’ve just as easily been her that disappeared.”  

Sam shook his head, he couldn’t think like that. He wasn’t entirely sure that if she had disappeared he could’ve done everything she had done to get everyone back. It was hard wrapping his head around everything that had happened let alone the what-ifs that plagued him too. He hadn’t been able to talk to you for a while. Fighting Thanos took less nerve than trying to figure out what to say to you. But he knew he couldn’t wait any longer when he saw you standing with Maria, surveying the damage.  

He had been relieved when you hugged him and he nearly cried to feel your arms around him again. It hadn’t been five years for him but it still felt like an eternity. He tried to be reassuring but he felt unconvinced, the tension from the fight was still in his body, as if the sky would open once more.  

“I’m sorry.” He heard himself apologizing as he brushed the hair out of your eyes, trying not to worry about the blood that was dried to the side of your face and neck. There’d be time to clean up. You both looked like hell. “I’m so sorry baby.”

“It doesn’t matter. It worked, you’re here.” You replied, turning your face just enough to kiss the hand he had on your cheek. “When I heard your voice in the earpiece...I thought I was gonna die in that building but it worked and you came back. You’re here.”

“I’m always gonna come back to you.”

“I didn’t know if this would work but...I had to try. The whole time, you were always first priority to me. Bringing you back...” You choked as your voice wavered, tears spilling as you tried to get out the words to explain to him.  

Sam only shushed you again, pulling you in to him and kissing your forehead. “There’ll be time for that, I promise.” He whispered. “We’ve got time.”

“You have all the freedom in the world now, and you use it to bother me.”

“Well you have all the freedom in the world and you don’t do anything with it.”

Ryoken stopped typing, hands hovering above the keyboard he was working at as he turned to look at Ai, who was seated on the screen of his duel disk, legs crossed.

“What is that supposed to mean?”

“Well, aside from the obvious, you never leaving this boat, you act like you’re the leader, but almost everything you do was decided by someone else.”

Ryoken frowned as he looked at the Ignis and Ai continued on. “You didn’t make the decision to hunt us down and exterminate us, Dr. Kogami did, you just went along with it. Same with the tower of Hanoi, that was all Dr. Kogami’s programming and creation.” He cocked his head to one side curiously, “And I don’t get it. Why not make your own choices, why go with what everyone else says to do?”

Ryoken turned away, looking back at his computer as he set his hands on the table. Ai was right and he hated it.

“I mean, if you have all the freedom in the world, why don’t you do what you want to do?” asked Ai.

“What I want to do huh?” A hoarse laugh caught in his throat and he shook his head, hands curling into clenched fists on the tabletop. “Because...because every time I make a choice, every time I try to do what I think is right the universe throws it back in my face. I invite my new friend over to my house, my father turns him into a lab experiment. I try to save six children from hell and how am I rewarded, by having the only family I have taken from me and returned to me at death’s door.” He pressed his hands to his face as his voice caught somewhere between a laugh and snort, hands shaking. “Hell, the choice to form an alliance with Yusaku and his friends was mine, and look what happened, I nearly got all of us killed, including myself. So maybe, maybe the reason I don’t want to make the decisions, is because the universe just wants to throw it back in my face.”

There was a crashing sound as he brought his hands down on the table and Ai jumped in surprise. Aside from that one moment in the virtual flower field, he’d never really seen Ryoken be what one might be considered vulnerable. Maybe constantly prodding for answers hadn’t been the best idea after all.

“I’m not allowed to make a choice without it hurting someone.”

Silence settled over them as Ryoken buried his face in his hands and Ai shifted awkwardly on the duel disk.

“You’re not the only one who's made mistakes like that you know,” he said after a moment. “I chose to leave the Cyberse World in Lightning’s care so I could find Yusaku, and while I was gone he imprisoned Aqua, rewrote Windy’s code and destroyed our home. I’d say that’s a pretty big slap in the face from the universe. I leave home to save it and it gets destroyed anyways.” Ai rubbed his head, “Not one of my finer choices.”

Ryoken lowered his hands slightly as Ai spoke, looking down at the small Ignis. “Where are you going with this?”

“Everyone makes a few bad decisions in their life, but that doesn’t mean you just stop. After all, not every decision you made was bad.”

“And what pray tell, went right?”

“Specter, you made the choice to befriend him didn’t you? And Vyra, if you hadn’t broken her out of prison she wouldn’t have been able to help save Link VRAINS from Lightning and Bowman,” said Ai. “And even teaming up with us wasn’t all bad. Ok, yes there were a few hitches along the way-”

“A few?”

“Shhh. There were a few hitches but, everything worked out, we stopped Bowman and Lightning, and you even helped repair Earth and Windy’s codes after, you can’t say that went badly.”

“I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop on those choices,” said Ryoken.

“Well you’ll be waiting a long time for them, cause they’re not gonna go wrong,” said Ai, planting his hands on his hips. “So use that free will you humans are so proud of to-to do something! To do what you want to do!”

“What I want to do huh?” Ryoken looked back at the laptop screen with a thoughtful ‘hmmm’ as he rested his chin on his hands.

“What’re you working on anyways?” asked Ai, craning his neck to look at the laptop screen.

“Nothing important,” replied Ryoken, quickly closing the program before Ai could see what he’d been doing. “Do you know where Yusaku is?”

“Hmmmm, I think he was going to see Kusanagi-san. Why?”

Ryoken didn’t reply and simply stood up, shutting the laptop. “Thank you, Ai.”

“Huh, you’re thanking me, why?”

He just smiled and gave Ai a tap on the head before heading for the door.

“Hey, hey answer me! What am I being thanked for, and why did you want to know where Yusaku was? Wait...does he have something to do with what you want to do?”

“Goodbye Ai.”

  Zack Snyder's Justice League is finally streaming on HBO Max and other platforms around the world, so now that it's out we can finally see just how different it is from the 2017 cut by Joss Whedon. The Snyder Cut represents Zack Snyder's pure original vision for Justice League before he left teh project and Warner Bros. and Joss Whedon rewrote and reshot it to drastically alter the story and tone, and it's far more than just a color change and some deleted scenes, but almost a totally different movie outside of the basic plot skeleton (although that has some changes, too).

Thanks to non-stop demand for his version of the movie, HBO Max saw an opportunity and gave Snyder $70 million to finish his cut according to his original vision, and so far it's seen strong audience and critical reactions, with many viewers expressing shock at how different the Snyder Cut truly is.

Due to the massive difference and 4-hour runtime, it's not practical to list every minor tweak or scene addition, so this piece will cover the major differences from color and music and aspect ratio to restored characters and altered plotlines.

One of the Snyder Cut's most immediately apparent changes is the restoration of Snyder's original aspect ratio of 1.33:1. During principal photography, Snyder wanted to use the typical IMAX ratio for the whole film, unlike Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where it was only used in a few scenes. The additional vertical space allows Snyder and cinematographer Fabian Wagner to frame shots in such a way that the same imagery can't be captured fully in widescreen, which is why many of the Whedon reshoots felt poorly framed and too tight. Snyder's aesthetic loves the human figure and statuesque poses, and the change from a wide screen to a square screen allows a single figure to dominate the majority of a shot without being too tightly cropped.

Zack Snyder has been well known for his visual aesthetic ever since the release of 300. His aesthetic choices are one of the more polarizing aspects of his filmmaking approach, and the darker, more natural, and high contrast looks of Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice were a subject of controversy for some, so that was one of the biggest changes in the Joss Whedon version of the film.

The theatrical cut didn't merely lighten every shot, but also increased the saturation in a color grade that added an almost salmon-colored hue to the whole movie. Everything was more orange and pink, especially skin tones, and the entire third act was bathed in a red-orange light that ultimately also washed out much of the contrast, making the visuals pop far less.

Snyder, of course, returned to his preferred palate in the Snyder Cut, although it should be noted that due to the characters and story being told, there's a lot of visual variety, making it far brighter and more colorful than Batman v Superman, and possibly even more than Man of Steel. Of course, the third act is also returned to its dark, high contrast look, and is one of the most praised aspects of the film.

Tom Holkenborg (Junkie XL) worked with Hans Zimmer on Man of Steel and graduated to splitting credit with him on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and was set to be the sole credited composer on Justice League before Snyder stepped down and Danny Elfman was hired to replace Holkenborg.

While much of his score was already completed, Holkenborg spent 8 months in quarantine in 2020 to compose an entirely new score, which he calls his "Mount Everest" as it's the longest score ever released. While Elfman's more whimsical style and iconic Batman '89 score is iconic, it didn't fit at all with the original tone of the movie. Junkie XL's 4-hour score, however, brings all the bass drums and bombast expected from a massive Snyder project but also embraces the iconic Hans Zimmer Superman theme from Man of Steel.

While the theatrical Justice League was just two hours long, Zack Snyder's Justice League comes in at a full 4 hours. Snyder was subjected to a 2-hour mandate by Warner Bros., which was part of the major struggle with his edits of the film prior to his departure. Presumably, Whedon was subject to the same requirement as his cut is exactly two hours long.

If Snyder's movie had been released in theaters in 2017, there's almost no chance it would have been four hours. It's hard to see the studio agreeing to more than 3 hours, and even that would have been a struggle, but due to the nature of the campaign to "Release the Snyder Cut" and the HBO Max streaming release, Snyder has far more leeway this time around, bringing an even purer "Snyder experience" to the final product. Since only about half of Whedon's version used Snyder footage (albeit cropped and recolored), Zack Snyder's Justice League has roughly 3 hours of footage that was excluded in 2017.

Zack Snyder's Justice League divides its 4-hour runtime into 6 different chapters and an epilogue, all marked by a fade to a black screen and title card before moving to the next chapter. Each chapter has a clear theme and arc in the movie, and the chapter cards do a great job of splitting up the 4-hour runtime into something far more consumable than many would expect. Since the 2017 Justice League was only 2 hours and lacked many of the subplots referenced in the chapter title cards, they were excluded from that version.

Zack Snyder has a reputation for R-rated violence in most of his movies, and that's on full display in Zack Snyder's Justice League. While Man of Steel was PG-13, Snyder's director's cut of Batman v Superman (the "Ultimate Edition"), is widely regarded as the better cut and also contains an R-rating. The movie includes lots of 300 style action, complete with CGI blood spurts, and 3 different f-bombs can be heard throughout.

One of the biggest criticisms of Justice League 2017 was Steppenwolf. Not only was his backstory and motivation slashed down in the final edit, but his voice was also fairly non-threatening, but the big criticism was his design and VFX. Steppenwolf was originally revealed at the end of Batman v Superman (only in Zack Snyder's director's cut), but they changed his design to be more human-like for Justice League, and it just didn't work. Part of the issue was the lack of polish to the character made him feel fake, but his design also just wasn't inherently very scary.

Zack Snyder's Justice League certainly changes that in one of the most substantially praised differences, which is the return to the scary, alien-looking Steppenwolf with his spiky armor. The armor is almost a character unto itself, constantly shifting and becoming more or less spikey, adding variable intensity to Steppenwolf moments. His voice is also more modulated, making him much more fierce, giving the Justice League a truly threatening foe.

Since Snyder's original movie was so drastically rewritten and reshot by Joss Whedon, a number of characters didn't make it into the final cut of the movie, and many of them are characters from DC comics who played a significant role when they were restored to Zack Snyder's Justice League, in addition to a few characters who were added after the fact in 2020. The characters include:

Since the Snyder Cut is 4 hours long, there's a lot more room for character development, and that's one of the movie's biggest improvements. Flash's introduction scene with Iris West is a great entry point into his character, Aquaman's trip to the Atlantean outpost establishes more of his backstory and motivation, Wonder Woman's connection to (and separation from) the Amazons becomes a major focus of her arc, and Batman trying to atone for his guilt after the death of Superman in Batman v Superman becomes a central focus for his character.

The biggest beneficiary of the expanded arcs is Cyborg, and by association, Silas Stone. Cyborg was heralded as the heart of the movie since even before the 2017 Justice League release. Every single Cyborg scene except for the GCPD rooftop scene was reshot by Whedon, so Cyborg saw a drastically altered story, making him the emotional core of the movie. Silas Stone's sacrificial end and ending monologue add a lot to both Cyborg and the rest of the characters, making his restored role integral to Zack Snyder's Justice League.

In order to complete a few elements Snyder didn't shoot in principal photography, he brought some of the cast back for brief reshoots in October 2020. The additional photography accounts for 4-5 minutes of footage and includes a Knightmare scene in the epilogue with Batman, Cyborg, Flash, Mera, Deathstroke, and Joker where they face a cliffhanger ending featuring evil Superman.

Snyder also shot a brief moment of Harry Lennix to show his transformation into Martian Manhunter, and also added him to a brief exchange with Bruce Wayne after he jolts awake following the Knightmare scene. Both Affleck and Lennix's part in this exchange are from 2020 reshoots, although a similar version of Affleck's part was shot during principal photography when the intention was to introduce a Green Lantern instead of Martian Manhunter.

The Snyder Cut has a couple added Superman moments that reuse Superman footage from Man of Steel and Batman  v Superman. They're only small moments and most viewers likely won't notice, but during Cyborg's Knightmare when Superman is seen kneeling and holding Lois Lane's dead body, Darkseid puts his hand on Superman's shoulder in a shot from after Superman kills Zod in Man of Steel, only the shot is reversed.

The second shot is at the end of the Knightmare, and it's repurposed from Batman v Superman when Superman drops down into the house in Nairomi where he rescues Lois Lane from the warlord. Both shots only stand out to anyone familiar enough with the original footage to recognize it, but due to pandemic restrictions in 2020 and Henry Cavill's busy schedule shooting The Witcher, he wasn't able to join for Snyder's reshoots.

Speaking of Henry Cavill and reshoot scheduling issues, when Joss Whedon originally did reshoots in 2017, Henry Cavill was shooting Mission: Impossible - Fallout and couldn't shave the mustache he grew to play August Walker. As a result, they had to digitally remove Henry Cavill's mustache for Justice League and the results were less than stellar, leading to years of internet memes of Henry Cavill's uncanny valley face.

Cavill didn't have the mustache during Snyder's principal photography, so the problem is entirely a product of Whedon's reshoots and therefore Henry Cavill's clean-shaven face is present for all his scenes in Zack Snyder's Justice League.

In a presumed attempt to add more personal stakes to the movie instead of focusing solely on the heroes, Joss Whedon added additional scenes featuring a Russian family in their home near the nuclear reactor Steppenwolf takes over in Pozharnov. The family never fully fit and felt cheap and distracting in Whedon's version, and it's entirely absent in the Snyder Cut.

Justice League 2017 cut most of the backstory and setup for the new characters, and one of the victims was Flash's introductory scene, where he's applying for a job as a dog walker when he saves Iris West from a car accident, which does a lot of work in establishing his character, personality, and skill set. It's also one of the more touching and humorous moments of the movie, so it's odd Whedon removed it, since it's exactly the kind of thing he was asked to add by Warner Bros.

Aquaman goes to the Atlantean outpost in Justice League 2017, but the Snyder Cut features even more interaction, including scenes with Vulko establishing Aquaman's backstory and motivations. This scene also explains where Aquaman's armor and trident came from, since they just appear in Justice League 2017 with no explanation. There's also a scene of Steppenwolf pulling Atlantean soldiers out onto land to interrogate them about the location of the Mother Box.

The History Lesson flashback scene follows the same general plot as in Justice League 2017, but the major difference is it features Darkseid instead of Steppenwolf. On top of that, it's a bit longer and better edited, has a little more Green Lantern in it, and has a much more epic fight (albeit a short one) between Darkseid and Ares, the God of War. Also, in this version, it's clear the alliance of Atlaneans, Amazons, and men (featuring far more diverse tribes of men than before) are much more clearly victorious, significantly changing our perception of how Darkseid might feel about the threat of Earth, and why the Mother Boxes stayed dormant for so long.

Zack Snyder always wanted Superman to wear the black suit after the League brings him back from the dead, just like in the comics. Unfortunately, Warner Bros. didn't allow it, so instead, Snyder worked with his crew to produce and shoot the Superman suit in a way that would be much easier to convert to black and silver in post-production if he could change WB's mind. Obviously that didn't happen for the theatrical, but the Snyder Cut has the black and silver suit in all its glory.

Just like how Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice explored the climax of Man of Steel from a new perspective, Zack Snyder's Justice League opens with Superman's death in Batman v Superman, showing Batman and Wonder Woman's reaction to his sacrifice, which is what inspires Bruce Wayne's entire arc to bring together the Justice League.

This was cut in Justice League 2017 in favor of a cell phone video of two kids interviewing Superman. While there may be a version of a Superman movie where that quaint video works, it wasn't only a total tonal mismatch with the rest of the movie, but also prominently featured Henry Cavill's CGI mustache removal, which was needless to say a jarring way to open the movie.

In Justice League 2017, much of the sequel set-up from Snyder's version was cut or altered, as the DCEU was moving in a different direction, but the characters all have their original endings back, which largely sets up for long-since canceled solo-films, with a few exceptions.

Batman is shown having rounded up a gang of criminals and tied them up in front of his tank-like "War Machine." The big detail about this shot is the fact that the criminals are tied up, whereas he's more known for branding, seriously injuring, or killing criminals in his introduction in Batman v Superman. There's also another scene where Lex Luthor tells Deathstroke that Bruce Wayne is Batman, setting up Affleck's canceled solo movie.

Wonder Woman is shown holding the arrow of Artemis and looking out over the ocean, implying she's seeking a way to get back to her people on Themiscyra, possibly setting up a different version of Wonder Woman 2, although since Wonder Woman 1984 was a prequel, this story isn't off the table yet.

Barry Allen reveals his "foot in the door" job at a crime lab to his dad, setting up a sequel where Cyborg helps him clear his dad's name. While the new version of The Flash movie could deal with Barry trying to exonerate his dad, Cyborg has been removed due to Ray Fisher's conflict with the head of DC Films, Walter Hamada.

Aquaman's last scene is set-up for his solo movie where he tells Vulko he's going home to see his dad. While the setup itself is fairly clean, the Snyder Cut does introduce some minor continuity contradictions with Aquaman.

Cyborg's ending shows him reassembling the tape recorder with Silas Stone's closing message on it, suggesting his technological powers are expanding, and the overall call from Silas in that message is for him to embrace his ability as a hero and grow. It's been revealed the ultimate plan for Cyborg was for him to become almost as powerful as Doctor Manhattan, so this is definitely a step in that direction.

Superman's ending shows him assuming the role of Clark Kent again and doing the classic shirt rip, just like the theatrical cut, only now he's wearing the black and silver Superman suit.

Ryan Choi also gets his own moment here where he's made STAR Labs' head of nanotechnology, where he simply says "that's my thing." Snyder has since revealed that he pitched an Atom movie with a Chinese cast to WB.

While the basic premise of sopping Steppenwolf from destroying the world with the Mother Boxes is the same, the third act battle is quite different in Zack Snyder's Justice League. The absence of the red hue throughout is an obvious major difference, but it's also longer, more violent, and has a lot more teamwork between the league, including an epic speed-ramped team shot.

Flash was mostly sidelined in the theatrical cut as he was running to save civilians, but in the Snyder Cut, he's actually building up speed to give Cyborg a charge and help project him into the Mother Boxes to stop the unity. He fails and the unity explodes, so he has to run fast enough to time travel back to save the League before giving the charge to Cyborg. Also, instead of Steppenwolf being dragged away by parademons like in the theatrical cut, a Boom Tube opens revealing Darkseid, DeSaad, and Granny Goodness and Steppenwolf is punched through as Wonder Woman cuts off his head, which rolls under Darkseid's boot before it's crushed. Darkseid then tells DeSaad to ready the Armada to invade Earth. Without the Mother Boxes, they'll have to "do it the old way."

After the polarizing response to Batman v Superman's Knightmare scene, that storyline was entirely removed from Justice League 2017. Of course, the Snyder Cut brings it back with a raging fury. Starting with a Knightmare vision by Cyborg where the Mother Boxes scorch the Earth, he sees Wonder Woman dead on a funeral pyre as Darkseid looks on, a glimpse at Darkseid killing Aquaman and Vulko with Omega beams, a shot of a destroyed Hall of Justice with Easter eggs from several major characters including the dead body of the Green Lantern Killowag.

Finally the biggest reveal of this vision is Superman, kneeling in the Batcave holding Lois Lane's burned corpse as Darkseid stands over him and puts his hand on his shoulder, as Superman is about to succumb to the Anti-Life equation, which is supposed to start the Knightmare future.

The Snyder Cut also has an additional Knightmare scene in the end, revealing Batman's Knightmare Justice League, including Cyborg, Flash, Mera, and Deathstroke. The scene shows Batman make an uneasy alliance with Joker before Superman arrives, his eyes glow red, and Bruce snaps awake.

I still am impressed by this progress. It has just reminded me that with focus anything can happen.

This above is my Grade 12 progress report. My main focus was mathematics. It was frustrating for me how I failed to score good points on tests and exams but understood almost every concept that Mr. Msezane, our maths teacher, introduced to us. After that score of 36% for March I said the magic word, no not adacadabra, FUCK IT! Yes, FUCK IT is the word, the magic word.

I reflected on my performance. I started studying patterns from my past tests and examinations. Where did I lack? I could identify some chapters that were giving me trouble in Physics and Chemistry but with Maths there was no pattern that I could find. That meant that I needed to search further, I rewrote my last exam which was a March exam. As you can see it was a flop. Thirty six percent? What? I knew I could do way better. When I rewrote the paper for myself in my room I scored way much better. And I discovered many things. One, I could not keep time. Two, I undermined myself, always thought Maths was difficult. Three, I had this huge fear for Maths and my maths teacher, I remember sweating like an athlete in my maths exam and I was asking myself, what is it that I am afraid of?

From my March exam, knowing exactly where I lacked I approached my next exam, June, with a warrior's attitude. I almost forgot the most important thing that I discovered, it was that I moved with no intention. I used to do math problems almost every single day just for the enjoyment of it. There was no reason that I should fail an exam. But because I did not put enough emphasis on the fact that I wanted to pass exams, I failed. When I studied with enough intent of passing, I passed.

Just so that this does not go to waste. I feel the need to complete the picture. This is my progress below.

June: 76%

September: 57%

December: 89%

Nationally Ranked Rebels to Compete at Tennessee Relays

Ole Miss heads into its third week of the outdoor season at the Tennessee Relays in Knoxville, Thursday-Saturday.

The Rebel men are 15th and the women are 18th in this week’s USTFCCCA national rankings. Ole Miss is one of 15 schools (eight in the SEC) with both its men and women in the top 20. The women have their highest outdoor national ranking since they finished 15th in 2008.

Head coach Connie Price-Smith’s squads will encounter fellow ranked teams from Kentucky (No. 2 women), Florida State (No. 10 women), Tennessee (No. 12 women, No. 14 men) and Virginia Tech (No. 15 women, No. 18 men) in Knoxville, as well as teams from Duke, Eastern Michigan, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Illinois, Middle Tennessee, North Carolina, Ohio State, Rutgers, Southern Illinois and Vanderbilt.

The heptathlon and decathlon begin Thursday, along with the hammer throw, while all other events will take place Friday and Saturday. A live stream of the meet will be available on the WatchESPN/ESPN3 app from 2-6:40 p.m. CT on Friday and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday.

Head Coach Price-Smith Says:

“Tennessee Relays is a meet that has a great tradition. They just renovated their track, so it’s the first one they’ve had in a couple of years. It should be a good meet with good competition. Hopefully we’ll get a lot of good marks out of it and the weather will be nice.”

Freeze Foundation Hosts Palmer Home Children At Spring Practice

Freeze Greets Palmer Home Children

Yesterday, the Freeze Foundation welcomed children from the Palmer Home to the Ole Miss campus.

The Christian-based residence has 110 kids living on two campuses, and the organization aims to provide a safe place for children of all ages whose parents are unable to care for them.

The organization’s partnership with the Freeze Foundation began just over a year ago, and they were honored to host them at the athletic facilities for the day.

Flori Finishes Tied for Second at El Tigre Invitational

When Martina Flori ended her blazing 5-under (67) third round, she was tied for the lead at El Tigre Invitational—but the No. 17 golfer in the nation birdied her last hole to swipe the shot at victory away from the Ole Miss sophomore.

It was still a spectacular day for Flori, who finished the tournament at 1-under par (215). The Montecatini Terme, Italy native entered Round 3 tied for 13th and left El Tigre Golf Club with the best finish of her career, a tie for second place.

“Marti was super solid today,” said head coach Kory Henkes. “She hit 17 greens, made clutch putts when she needed to and played with a lot of confidence. She strikes the ball as well, if not better than any player in college golf, so it was great to see her putter get hot this week. We knew she was due for a great round soon, and I think today will be the confidence booster she needed as we head into the conference tournament.”

Eagle Highlights Flori’s 5-Under Day Flori’s third round started on the ninth hole and quickly picked up steam with a birdie on the 10th. She collected three more birdies on the back nine and was 2-under going into the fourth hole, where a little encouragement from assistant coach Drew Belt set the table for her eagle, the second of the tournament for Ole Miss, and the team’s seventh this season.

“On Hole 4, I was 2-under, and coach Drew told me that if I wanted to win I would have to go for it,” Flori said. “I had a 210-yard shot to the green, and I hit it on the green and made a 15-footer for eagle.”

Next came another birdie on the sixth hole’s signature island green, which moved Flori to 5-under. After two pars to close the day, Flori was in a three-way tie for first, seemingly bound for a playoff. But Cal State Fullerton senior Martina Edberg, ranked No. 17 in the nation by GolfStat, carded a clutch birdie to steal the win.

“It’s disappointing finishing second by one shot, but I played 8-under over my last 27 holes,” Flori said. “I’m very happy with these results, and I’ll keep working hard to get the trophy next time.”

Flori rewrote all of her personal bests: finish (T2), 18-hole low (67) and 54-hole low (215). It marked Ole Miss’ second best finish this season, behind only junior Katy Harris’ 212 to win the Palmetto Intercollegiate in October. Flori’s 67 in Round 3 is the lowest 18-hole score by a Rebel this season.

She finished tied with Washington freshman Ellen Takada—the defending NCAA champion Huskies took home the team title. Flori bested two of GolfStat’s top 100 players: Wisconsin senior Brooke Ferrell (No. 66) and Coastal Carolina junior Malene Krolboll Hansen (No. 89).

Rebel Round-Up Ole Miss narrowly missed having two top-10 finishers for the first time this season. Freshman Pi-Lillebi Hermansson used an outstanding first round (1-under, 71) to contend for the win in Puerto Vallarta. She finished just one stroke outside of the top 10 in a tie for 12th, the best of her collegiate career and her third top-20 finish.

As a team, the Rebels came through with their best round of the tournament, 6-over par (294) to jump up one spot in the rankings to finish seventh.

The Rebels shaved 15 strokes off their team score from Round 2 to Round 3. Harris and seniors Maria Toennessen and Madisen Bentley all overcame rough a rough Monday to improve in the final round. Harris and Toennessen each improved by six strokes, while Bentley, in the individual slot for Ole Miss, made a nine-stroke improvement.

“It’s always nice to see players bounce back and perform after they had a bad round,” Henkes said. “It shows the determination and grit they have to keep grinding for themselves and their teammates.”
