I've been going through your sw rebels art and it looks effortless, however as an artist myself ik that *looking* effortless does not *mean* effortless so I was wondering if a) it is and b) how long it took you to 'master' your current style, if you don't mind? (master in quotes bc art is complex). If you do mind, then feel free to ignore this!

Thats a very interesting question actually! Thank you for asking it! Im putting it under a readmore because i typed a WHOLE LOT (as i tend to do) but I hope it’s somewhat interesting nonetheless!

A: Is it effortless

I think I would say that while I do draw very fast, it’s definitely not effortless :’) I’ll use rebels as a relevant example, because I think it does a good job specifying the very vague general answer, but especially in my first rebels fanarts I feel like you can see me struggle to try and find a balance between the show style and the way I tend to draw things, which makes it look a little silly (to me at least!)

It'll often take me a little while to get that balance down, but at this point im very comfortable and always have a lot of fun drawing the ghost squad in the quote unquote redesign I gave them. As a remnant of my homestuck phase I have a lot of practice seeing a canon designs & going “.......aight.......” before stuffing it under my shirt and bolting. I tend to take characters base concepts and mold them to my liking until they’re most fun to draw for me, but still appropriately FEEL like the character, hence why it may look a little effortless sometimes (& also prompting the joke among friends that I made swr and that they’re all my ocs (The R in SWR stands for Roos)) All of this to say that it might look a little effortless but it isn’t! I’m just having a lot of fun

B: How long did it take me to master my current style

This is a hard question to answer because its like you said, art is complex so i dont feel like theres a mastering to it. Additionally its really hard for me to articulate a process that is so visual into words (let alone translate it to English), but the long and short of it is 22 years! 

Ive been reading comics and drawing from them for most of my life, and I at least doodle a little bit every single day, often mindlessly. Thats why it might look a little effortless, its like a well-rehearsed routine my hand does on her own sometimes. While this its really relaxing and fun the MAYOR drawbacks of this are that I can fall back onto drawing the same few things every single time, might internalize anatomical mistakes if I draw them often enough, and since there’s a certain swing to it its very possible to throw me off my groove.

It’s really hard to give you a satisfying answer, but I hope this made a little bit of sense! Thank you very much for asking again, I’m honoured that you’re interested :’)
