Bridgerton Season 3 Part 2 Spoilers !!!

I ADOREEEEE the way the show has decided to gender bend Micheal Sterling. Micheala and Francessa already have so much chemistry and well PERIOD PIECE SAPPHICS!!!!!

I understand the point of view that queer characters deserve to have storylines specifically written for them, but the whole show follows one family. Any character who was written in with a queer storyline would automatically become a side character. Like what else would they do…..make a ninth Bridgerton magically appear.

I also hate how people are acting as if this automatically negates Fran’s struggles with infertility. Queer women can also struggle with those problems. Not to mention that the whole idea that the only way a woman who struggles to have children can find a solution to her problem is keep trying until she get pregnant isn’t a great storyline either imao. (I haven’t read the books but this is what I’ve seen is the general gist of it. If it isn’t let me know pleaseee).

Anyway just a ramble because i’m tired of people being homophobic (especially when so many people are happy for bisexual Benedict). I love Francessa. I love Micheala. I love sapphics!!!!

Yeep, exactly. Charles and Erik love each other far too much still for their own good. This whole thing would long have been over with everyone dead if they didn't hold their respective people back. With how it's going, there's just more and more collateral damage on the way, and those two still will just fuck it out and cry on each other's shoulder in the end, and they deserve all the shade thrown at them for it.

Uuugh now I get emotional about Schindler's list again, never managed to rewatch that, it broke me so much the first time already. I think it's really the hardest part about this job? Getting to terms that you can't be everywhere at once and that making as much of a difference as you can is what counts and not saving everyone because that simply won't work. And my girl is still at the beginning of learning that sigh. It's really chilling seeing Erik walk around killing off random people in this franchise just because they're normal people bc like. This is what happens when someone's been on the receiving end of this and then gets the power to turn the tables on the fascist assholes. The moral dilemma of the whole thing ugh.

1. anne shirley from anne of green gables - this series and its protagonist were absolutely FORMATIVE for me and shaped so much of my worldview as a child. she remains one of my favourite characters in anything ever. a child of light by birthright.

2. percy jackson - look i have nothing to say for myself. i've been younger than him and exactly his age and older than him and he's very special to me. i'll always remember the way this series Hooked me into reading as a child.

3. tsukishima kei from hq - it's very strange that i've never written him but i adoreeeee him truly. i love his arc and his development and his personality and i love him finding JOY in what he does in a way that retains his integrity of self throughout it.

4. midorima shintarou from knb - clocking that i have a Type in characters now but really i LOVE him. he's my son. my babie son. i would do anything for him and his stupid cart and his stupid glasses and his stupid lucky items.

5. renee walker from aftg - okay i love the main trio of this series so much but i had to mention renee specifically because it's like half of her is what i am and the other half is what i aspire desperately to be. i think she deserves everything in the world.

6. artemis from artemis fowl - more of my type i.e. babie son. he's INSUFFERABLE and smug and clever and calculating and ruthless and not as ruthless as he thinks he is. and so, so, so loved. also he's just so fucking funny i love him.

7. todoroki shouto from bnha - i don't keep up with this series anymore but i do miss the characters and todoroki is so special to me. his arc and development are so compelling and i just want him to be happy!!

8. kim dojka from orv - oh my GOSHHHH this man. he is such an incredible character from a narrative standpoint (SO unreliable and complex, an incredible study in loneliness and storytelling and readership and escape) but also from a personal one he's SUCH A GUY. i love him endlessly.

9. saiki k from the disastrous life of saiki k - i don't talk enough about how much i love this anime but i ADORE saiki and his dry wit and constant tiredness and begrudging friendships (i'm just realising this is Still My Type) anyway i want to hold him up like simba. i want to gently rotate him in a microwave.

10. chuuya nakahara from bsd - he's just such a good boy. angry unhinged crazy good boy. he's tiny. i want to eat his gender. i want to ruffle his hair. i want him to find lasting peace and happiness. every six months i am suddenly hit with a wave of fondness for him.

oh good lord have you opened the flood gates of hell

hm. well i first got attached to rei circa mid july of 2020 (sage how do you remember the date so specifically? fuck if i know dude). i had originally been really attached to kanata (i still am. i love her) and roughly put: i was struggling with realizing i'm autistic (i thought it was adhd and that every autist in the world was being dramatic because "everyone does that" as it turns out, they don't) at the time and rei just kinda fuckin. i don't know. made it fall into place if that makes sense.

like rei just hit me as a character who just so strongly reminded me of myself. there's a lot of personal stuff there i could get into but to give the spark notes of it: i have always largely been attached as a "gifted kid who had so much going for them!" that i'd be treated as an adult and expected to just. solve adult problems. and to see a character who had also been levied with that and had just kinda fucking given up entirely really echoed the shit i was going through. so like. that's kinda what drew me to him i think. also i thought he was silly

well here's my favorite lore tidbits in ties to me at least. rei is inadvertently what got me to study japanese (1: enstars TLs are hard to find and i'm incredibly lazy and hate asking for help so about a year ago i was like fuck it! and now i'm learning it and 2: i liked his use of multiple 1st person pronouns in easter). my girlfriend and i actually bonded over enstars (rei + kaoru in particular) so he inadvertently got us together. the fact he can play violin got me really impassioned about my music studies for about a month

my favorite lore bits in general? i looove his dynamic with 2wink. i adore sad grandpa and his overactive kids (+ brother dynamics here. how the aois look completely just like. get along fine get along great!! from the outside when in actuality they have a dynamic not. horribly far from the sakumas. less overtly violent but still very 'younger brother feels overshadowed by the older, and older brother is sometimes kind of a prick'). i absolutely adoreeeee his dynamic with kaoru in crossroads. i love the dichotomy between rei, as someone who's spent his entire life as being "gifted" and bearing the ugly burden of it, getting told off by kaoru, someone's who's "normal." like i love how they're both opposites of each other yet both just as disillusioned with the world in 2nd year. i could go crazy talking about kaorei Ok anyway. i love how ultimately rei is still kind despite what he says about himself. he might whine and insist he's a "dark demon of the night" or something but i feel like that comes from his guilt of feeling like he's unable to just. solve everyone's problems. that's how he lost the war!! he tried so hard to save everyone that he ultimately couldn't save anyone + destroyed his own relationships in the process. i love how the way he's "selfish" is by standing up for himself and saying he's not going to just fix everyone's problems for them anymore. and i like how his conflict with koga reflects this; it's not that koga is dumb or anything, but that he's staring at rei with rose tinted glasses. he sees rei as an idol (arguably, he's just as bad as those who demand rei fix their problems) first and foremost and can't understand why rei would just stop being his idol. god. undead dynamic. i feel like his dynamic with ritsu is also fucking crazy. and i think ritsu is right not to just point blank forgive him tbh. enstars is great cause you can see how both of them are just hurting the other by acting the way they do but how they're both so similar + stubborn they'll refuse to admit it. and how rei says that even if ritsu hates him he's still his big brother?? good lord. i'm a sucker for older siblings in media (checks out! i am an older sibling)

outside of the serious stuff, rei is also great cause he looooves acting like he's stupid. he loves to pretend he doesn't have 8 different master plans rotating in his brain at any given time. he loved pulling the "ohh i wouldn't know i'm just stupid 🥺" card and it's fucking crazy. there's something wrong with his brain. he genuinely knows how to help people form his past experiences but doesn't want to become so over relied on again that he constantly plays the "ohhh i am just so old and my bones are so creaky :( my genuinely helpful advice was just a fluke!" card ALL THE TIME. i think it's funny how he loves to tease people. act all haughty and then be like "haha wouldn't it be funny if you sucked on my boob." it's fun because he's just like. still a Guy beneath his 8 levels of demon hell. he's just very silly. i like that he skips class all the time to sleep, too.

and like (slaps the top of oddballs) these guys can fit SO much found family. you're telling me 5 guys who have consistently been outed from their peer groups for "weird" interests/abilities/family shenanigans finally meet up in high school, get stuck in a weird trauma hell for a year, and they're NOT going to have a weirdly strong bond of trust that it's something to fear? good lord. they make me feel crazy. i love that they ultimately end up making a home for themselves and they remain close friends after the fact (hell, if i remember right they were friends even before eichi did eichi things. he's just kinda what cemented them and really knit them together). i love natsume and his 2 sets of parents

-He doesn’t really pick up on it. The sheer fact that you’re there beside him means that Starrk is paying attention to very little. He’s not stupid, but he does tend to get distracted when you’re nearby. It’s easy to get on his good side... but beware of what will happen if he figures out that you’re faking.

Halibel:

-She picks up on what you’re trying to do fairly quickly, but allows it. There’s no reason to stop you when you’re being so well-behaved... and you also don’t need to know that she’s noticed. Halibel allows you to keep being as kind and sweet as you are-- all without lowering her guard for even a second. 

Ulquiorra:

-All he sees is that you’re finally behaving yourself and accepting your position as his. If you overdo it, he’ll realize that you’re trying to manipulate him, though, and that kind of thing will be met with punishment to a great extent. He doesn’t like it when you try to trick him like that. He doesn’t like it at all. 

Nnoitra:

-He knows exactly what you’re trying to do-- and tells you as much. There’s no need to bother with being all well-behaved. You’re his, no matter how much you fight or hate him. He doesn’t care a bit. You’re never going to pull one over on him that easily, and all it does when you try is make him angry. 

Grimmjow:

-What you’re trying to do escapes him for quite a while, overshadowed by the pure desire to have you. When you act like you love him, Grimmjow is easily blinded. But do keep in mind; when he makes sense of how you’re trying to manipulate him, he’ll make sure that you don’t want to do it again. 

Szayel:

-He catches on to what you’re doing immediately... and promptly turns the tables and tricks you into something awful. Any time you try to manipulate him, you’re running a massive risk, and every time, it’s far more likely that you’ll be the one to regret it. He mockingly praises you for your sudden “good behavior”.

Aaroniero:

-Despite his skills when it comes to reading people, he’s so blinded with possessive affection that he doesn’t notice your attempt to get on his good side for quite a while. Even when he does, he keeps his mouth shut about it, though. It’s better for both of you if you keep acting so sweet and tame. 

Ggio:

-He’s weak enough to praise that the right words can have him wrapped around your finger. A misstep will get you in worlds of trouble, but for at least a short period of time, he’s easy to manipulate. He’s also highly unlikely to notice that you’re trying to trick him instead of legitimately changing your ways.

Hahahaha this made me smile a lot. Where did this show come from?! Out of bloody nowhere. I feel you, love. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. 🌺

It is genuinely close to impossible to choose my favourite moments because I honestly have so many - big and small (some tiny!) - but these are 3 of the moments I love:

I think the first that always seems to come to mind is the colouring in scene because of how well it was set up from the very first time we saw Oh, to how it links so beautifully with so many other moments, the way it links both Tarn and Oh (both magical characters in their own way so they deserve to both be characterised so strongly), the way it is just mostly wordless, the acting from Smile as Tarn, the beauty of the setting in the long grass, the way the audience knows something Teh doesn’t (that’s genius for me) and the pay off. It’s both incredibly romantic and horribly heartbreaking. The way it’s shot, the meaning isn’t lost on anyone but there has just been no obvious set up, it’s all done so gently but when you look down alongside Tarn and see him choose red... it was like you were absolutely with her in that moment but also somehow inside Teh’s head, knowing he is going a little mad and is so distracted. It was just set up so well and executed in such a meaningful way not to mention the whole thing just LOOKS so pretty

I’d have to also choose the boat scene. I think that, for me, is one of the most unique and weird and gorgeous scenes in the whole show. I want to write a whole post about it because if I had to have a handful of scenes and moments from some of my favourite arty shows/movies to show to someone to say “this! This is what I love!”, I’d add that one to the list. I LOVE weird moments that are made meaningful and that are entirely unique. For me, it’s Teh for the most part who just mesmerises me. He’s sitting there fully aware that he doesn’t need to get the boat, knowing Oh will KNOW he’s just sitting on it to see him and that he wants to talk and to apologise in some way but he doesn’t know how... so he just sits and sometimes glances over. The music and the shot where the boat is sailing through the reflections on the water is just so pretty. I love that the lyrics to Can’t Translate are so loud in that moment! Then Oh leaves the boat and I just adoreeeee watching Teh lose his mind 😂 I love that he runs up the boat, hits his bag, scratches the seat, flops down on it and just leans around the back, plays with his hands... poor child doesn’t know how to handle himself and just as you think the boat will leave, Oh returns and he’s exactly the sweet soul you knew he was. He’s speaking first again and he knows Teh well enough to return and sit. And then their whole scene is so laden with unspoken things and glances and subtext but the importance of what Oh tells him about not judging and trying to be observant and that Teh CAN speak and he will listen... but Teh can’t quite manage it so he reverts to his flash cards and the three damn words... I think I’ve cried every time I watch him use SAD. When Oh doesn’t know the meaning and Teh says the word his voice sounds broken. I adore that moment. The phrase “please don’t give my time to someone else” is one of the sweetest sentiments I’ve ever heard. The way they both desperately want the same. I love that the scene goes from utterly silent and fraught and pained and full of longing to them back to their normal selves all playful and giddy and weird... and that last shot with Teh just glancingly down are Oh’s head like “oh shit” as the final shot of the episode just... 👌🏼

The last would have to be the Chinese writing portion of the last scene of Episode 3. The whole thing is amazing and done so beautifully but the LAYERS in that scene, the use of the Male Protegonist and the Chinese means that by the time you get to that point in the show, the weight of the question Oh-aew asks about there being 2 Male Protagonists isn’t only about them romantically, it’s all so heavily linked to their rivalry and friendship and the way they fell out because there can be space for two! Ughhhhhh how is it so good. Also, the way Chinese is used and that it’s Oh helping Teh in his language, translating Teh’s mind to try to get some clarity but also to help Teh navigate his own feelings. Not to mention the fact it’s based off Yongjian... the fact that’s what they’re talking about too and how meaningful that is to them both and their story. The way the scene is shot and the lighting and the absolute intensity of it means it feels so intrusive. But it is acted to perfection and both of them are so mesmerising for different reasons - Oh in his sweetness and how he’s trying hard but also just so head over heels and much more able to express himself and then there Teh who is just so wound up tight and struggling but still trying in his own strange way and is desperate to cling to his tutoring as a way to deal but Oh is forcing him to face it all. I could write so much but it’s ever so meaningful and incredibly beautiful. I love it dearly and think it’s one of the best moments in anything I’ve seen in a very long time for all of the reasons above but mostly for the absolute pay off of the meaning behind every word and moment!

So yes. I love so so so many moments. So many (an embarrassing amount actually) I could write essays! So happy you loved it. Honestly ❤️
