I was listening to today's episode of The Vorthos Cast, and the auto-generated chapter titles gave me my new favorite MTG Cryptid.
Tumblr media
This is what happens when you put a family in the People Squisher Together Device I invented and am selling on Craigslist for $47.
And thanks for listening to the show!
I got abandoned by all my cohosts but interviewed Akemi Dawn Bowman, author of the Outlaws of Thunder Junction main story and the Nashi side story. Folks can listen to it here on our Soundcloud or on most places people get their podcasts.

Ok so listening to then new Vorthos Cast story update (my favorite mtg podcast btw) I found a personal issue. Zimone's Duskmourn "death" I read as a chest burster type death from infection from the house. Not Tyvar killing her. I could be wrong, but it was so visual for me in the time of reading. LMK your thoughts!

Un-rules question:
If I have a Vorthos, Steward of Myth naming Storm Crow (bear with me here), and a Fist of Suns on the battlefield, can I then cast Mindstorm Crown for 0 mana under the interpretation that it “contains the chosen character in its name”?
A noble attempt, but no. : )
Vorthos actually cares it's referencing the character.

I think Glimpse the Impossible might be my new favorite card. It’s the whole package of things I like
Tumblr media
Red Sorcery? ✅ (instant speed is overrated)
Impulse Draw (exiling cards to cast for a limited time)? ✅
Weirdly can be self-mill? ✅
Art that goes way too hard? ✅
Banger story-based flavor text? ✅ (I’m a Vorthos first and foremost)
Honestly I liked the art as I was opening my prerelease packs, but then after the event I read the flavor text and realized just how incredible it is (Gisela was one of the 5 guardian angels of Innistrad until Emrakul got to her)

The farmer shuddered. He hastily scanned the room, and to his horror, saw blood dripping from the wall. Thirteen lines of crimson trailed down the wood surface, pooling around the thirteen small logs stacked in the fireplace.
This sent the man into a panic. He stumbled through the front door and fled in haste, leaving the ill-omened house behind.
“Johnny! Where are you going? Which mode are you…picking.”
Spike scowled at the other player, who was busy storming outside the LGS in a huff. The sitting player then looked down at her opponent’s own Triskaidekaphobia that had just caused him to lose.
“I think that’s the first time I’ve ever seen that card kill someone!”
Spike looked up and to her side, at the other two people in the pod. She gave the player sitting in the opposite corner a nod of agreement, her expression softening slightly.
“Well, Timmy, I think that’s the first time I’ve ever seen that card played.”
While Timmy bit back a laugh, the player sitting beside Spike pointed to the card in question. The motion jostled the Nicol Bolas-shaped hat atop their head as they studied the art.
“I’ve always wondered what actually does the killing in-universe here, you know? I was going to say maybe it was symbolic, just superstition. But the number thirteen does seem cursed, on Innistrad at least.”
“You’ve got that right, Vorthos!” Timmy laughed, as he played two cards from his hand. “Case in point: I’m going to cast Quicken, drawing a card and giving my next sorcery flash-”
“It doesn’t actually have flash, though.”
Timmy rolled his eyes at Spike’s correction. “And cast Into the Maw of Hell, targeting both your Cabal Coffers and your Urza, Lord High Artificer. And yes, Triskaidekaphobia trigger still on the stack, before you untap.”
Spike frowned at the two targets, both under her control. Her forehead met her playmat in frustration, shaking the cards off the table and earning a lighthearted laugh from Vorthos.
“Hey, I guess the cards really did go into the…heh.”

Attn: MagicCon Chicago Attendees
I'm gonna be on a panel at MagicCon Chicago on Saturday with my podcast cohosts!
Tumblr media
If you're at MagicCon Chicago and want to have a goofy time listening to us talk about Magic's criminals, stop by at 11am on this Saturday, the 24th! We're on the mana stage (ie. the main stage; WotC did a pun there).
For folks who won't be attending, the panel should be recorded and uploaded to the official MTG YouTube channel, and I'll post that when it's live too.

I wish I could afford your discord for the discussions but hopefully soon.
The question though, how big is the inside of ixalan? Is it the size of Ixalan? Or is it only slightly smaller than the entire surface where as we could see whole "Continents" on the otherside of the Caverns?
Do they connect to Torrezon? Could people walk from ixalan to Torrezon without a boat?
The Vorthos Cast discord is $1 a month, yeah, and that can be a lot if money is tight. No shame in not being able to afford it.
The core of Ixalan where Chimil resides and shines is much smaller in area than the surface. I think Ovidio Cartegena answered a question about this and said a diameter of 22km. Which is quite small, but the Oltec are very efficient in their use of space.
We don't know if there are caverns that connect directly to Torrezon.
