oh so everyone is lying about the movie d.e.b.s. huh. Its not bad in a good way. its not camp. its just annoying.
#its like the craft. watching the gifs on tumblr you'd think the insane goth girl is the main character#only for the majority of the film to focus on some girl you've literally never noticed who disappears in the posters from lack of charisma#the two lesbians were BORING. i thought all 4 of them were equally gay#turns out only the bland one is. french cigarette smoking devon aoki is worth seeing but#she barely has any lines#spud the evil lesbian's straight male best friend is the most entertaining & likeable character in the movie after devon aoki which is an L#for all lesbians and this movie in particular#& the female straight best friend has the only iconic line in this movie#“everyone thinks you're a hero when you're actually a slut. a gay slut”#movie sucked im sorry#also those two lesbians were so insanely weird looking. this is what lipstick lesbian means#not femme (which devon aoki is actually serving effortlessly in this film) but straight looking in a really uncomfortable way#beauty rituals femmes don't engage in like powdered bronzer contour#& straightened layer haircuts. & those weird ugly 2000s tshirts#hyperfeminine in an oddly sexless way which is like the opposite of femme#hated it. i wanted to see devon aoki make out with a woman#& the old lady director. they shouldve been killing each other for that older woman pussy but no#turns out shes just the defacto homophobic villain. ugh.

I thought of something, based on an answer of yours I saw yesterday. I don't know if you're into videogames, but Last of Us 2 came out recently and it has a transgender character. A trans boy. I won't bore you with plot and setting, but this character goes through immense suffering which is directly tied to his trans identity. And a bit of a ruckus happenned. Discussions about tokenim and trans representation in media.. And I, myself, am not trans. So I could understand to an extent-(1/4)
(2/4)-but couldn't sympathize and, by extension, care too much. Now what I do identify with is being gay. I still struggle with my identity, but I know this about myself. And I've experienced watching a show just because it has queer characters, I've been queerbaited, I've cringed and eyerolled at rehashed hetero romances. Y'know, things all lesbians go through. Now the Haunting anthology series are of the horror genre. I didn't watch them expecting to be punched in the feels.
(3/4) I knew Bly was gonna be good when I started watching, but what they gave us... Nothing short of iconic. A milestone even! And where I'm going with this is, comparing Dani and Jamie to this trans character I understood the problem of the trans audience. What Dani and Jamie went through had nothing to do with their attraction towards one another! And they were never used and paraded around in media months before the show even came out. Sometimes people use this dumb argument that goes-
(4/4) "I don't see color/sexuality/religion." Of course you do. We all do. And we should! A pretense of homogeneity isn't the answer! But what they did with Dani and Jamie is exactly the way it should be done! I sent this again, because I suspect it didn't reach you the first time, I hope it did now!
I actually played TLOU2 in entirety this summer, and the Lev stuff was definitely on my radar. It’s always a concern in any piece of media, that someone who isn’t part of a particular community will include that community as a scrap or a token--or, worse, as a cautionary tale about that “kind of person”. I’m also not trans (technically, I guess; I dunno that I’m anything where gender is concerned, but that’s a conversation for another day), but the critiques of what the trans community feared going into a story that violent with a character they were going to be instinctively protective of were reasonable. And, yeah--I feel the same whenever queer characters of any kind turn up in darker genres, especially.
Because, like, if a gay character turns up in a sitcom or a rom-com, they might be a joke. And that’s shitty. But if they turn up in a drama? A horror? A post-apoc zombie game? Then you run the risk of being a joke AND being shown tragedy and pain and told, “Hey--this is for you. This is your future. Say thank you.”
Bly, for me--a white gay person--does feel like a milestone. For how it painted queer love specifically, it does feel like it took into account love and humanity and not “well, Dani was always going to die because she’s gay.” It felt like “Dani’s going to die, because the thesis of the thing is that humans are made to die, and to tell this kind of story, this is just how it goes. But we can make sure she’s loved and happy while she’s here.” And while the creative team/actresses keep saying they just went in valuing human love and not thinking about the gay aspect as much, I find them doing that--coming at the story from a human center, instead of a label place--still allowed them to tell a story that really resonates with the queer experience. The coming out fears, the care of two women learning to trust one another, the found family aspect--that’s all very close to the heart of even modern queerness. They didn’t sacrifice the reality of the thing, they just didn’t focus so completely on the queerness that they turned the story into a plastic representation of what gay love is. It balanced.
Still, it isn’t perfect. The other thing to consider with darker-tone stories is: is this happening to everyone? Is the violence just targeting the minority group, and everyone else is left safe and sound, or is everyone being damaged because that’s just the kind of story they’re telling? It’s a complicated conversation, and different people are going to have different answers. Bly is a sad story: Owen and Jamie are left without the respective loves of their lives, the kids are tormented by adults they trust, Dani suffers and ends up at the bottom of a lake. The genre comes for everyone, as it were, but I don’t know that we could say it does so equally. The Black community might not feel as kindly toward Bly, for example, since both Rebecca and Hannah wind up horrifically dead without getting to really enjoy happiness, as opposed to the white queer lead getting a lifetime of relative joy before meeting her end. There’s a lot to unpack, and those conversations are important. Like you said, a pretense of homogeny isn’t beneficial when it comes to forward motion through fiction. Or life. I do think starting from a place of humanity and moving outward is helpful for getting a story right, but I also think there’s more to it than just patting yourself on the back for getting one kind of story right. It’s an interesting conversation that’s important to keep having, to keep from seeing storytellers hit the point where they can say “we already did this, and now we’re done.” I would hope, seeing how Bly handled the love story, the next project the team takes on would just keep building on that foundation.
#the haunting of bly manor#the haunting of bly manor spoilers#the haunting of meta#this feels like it went slightly off the rails from what you were saying#and that's actually why I didn't answer it right away yesterday. was trying to figure out how to parse these points all out#but I think as long as Flanagan and co don't pull a joss and say 'what I did in 1998 constitutes perfect progress' then#there's hope that each progressive piece of media will be better and more human and more rounded than the last#and I very much want that for these stories#we don't need to shy away from darkness but we do need to make sure there isn't one group being shoved out into the darkness alone

dead to me season 2; a review
hello, i need to write about this because i woke up at 4am to watch season two and i have soooo many feelings that i need to vent even if nobody really cares
this is gonna be long so i divided it by episode and i'm doing a summary at the end if you don't feel like reading the entire thing
if you follow me on twitter you may have seen a lot of my comments on the season, as i needed to tweet about it while i watched it, but this is more of an organized type of thing
A LOT OF SPOILERS AHEAD
> i'm a die hard judy/jen shipper so if you liked michelle this might not be for you, i'm sorry
EPISODE 1
okay, the season picks up on the morning after ted's death and that was something i really appreciated. i usually hate when tv shows skip things and only mention what happened, not showing us how it happened
judy and henry's relationship warms my heart. they have a really strong bond and i'm glad we got to see more of them together throughout the episodes.
but, as we can't have everything, it hurt me a lot to see the way jen was treating judy. i love them both equally and because of that i can clearly see their mistakes without being biased, or at least i hope i can. i get that she was hurt with everything that judy did, and i loathed steve deeply, but still, the guy was his ex-fiancee, and she loved him to death even if he was a toxic piece of crap. the way jen said she was just there to pick up stuff and then told her she burned everything without even looking at her made me so sad for judy, and her dropping judy off saying they would never talk again was very cold, but that i would've seen coming from jen.
i was constantly feeling bad for judy because she didn't have time to mourn steve or abe and there she was, broke and without a place to stay. and let's just say, abe was an angel in her life even after he died. props to him for treating her like she deserved to be treated.
the thing with michelle started and it seemed a bit forced to me, like they just wanted to shove judy to someone else so we would stop asking for jen & judy being together.
and then jen called judy and i just KNEW that was happening, that scene really made me happy and it felt like they were taking a step forward in their relationship. jen worries about judy so much, even if she's not the best at showing it.
"like an excuse to see me again." "did it work?"
EPISODE 2
steve's twin thing was 100% so they wouldn't have to kick james out. it was very predictable and unnecessary. i guess it added a bit to the plot but his presence really annoyed me. but, i need to say, james did a nice job because ben didn't have any of steve's traits (i know that's what actors are supposed to do but i felt like he needed a compliment).
diana was irritating me from the beginning, and i'm glad i got to like her more by the end of everything.
i didn't get the deal with nick. i know breakups are hard but he looked depressed af. maybe it had to do with his history, everything with his friend and him losing his job and stuff. but i'm not really interested in that so it didn't bother me.
and may i just add? the scene with judy and the bird, she truly is a princess, i can't with her. also, i liked the subtle hint when jen told ben not to climb on the freezer because it was too low, and we would come to find out later that steve's body was in that freezer.
episode two had a lot of fun moments and it was a lighter one, maybe to prepare us for the chaos that was coming next.
"you look beautiful. i wish you would love yourself more."
EPISODE 3
judy hugging the freezer got me ????? i know she's an espiritual person but was she really acting like steve was feeling anything? i was confused, honesly, but i don't blame her "she will never do anything wrong :)"
the rats scene was funny but i hated how long they took to solve the freezer thing and just showed jen going there and crying sooo many times it kinda got tiring.
jen was being so nice to judy, touching her and hugging her and i had my hopes up for a little bit (only to get played again but i'll talk about that later).
the scene with michelle was cute, kinda necessary for judy to realize things about her grief, but sincerely speaking she just makes me very bored.
the breakdown scene in the garage was GREAT, linda and christina did an amazing job and i want to give them all of the awards.
"just wanted to tell you that i forgive you."
EPISODE 4
this episode had so much potential to be gay lmao, i could actually picture jen trying to comfort judy and end up kissing her and then they would've been together and all, but liz really doesn't want to give us what we want.
the scene at the bar was one of the best scenes in this season. they finally TALKED about their feelings. about how they still cared about both of the men who hurt them even if they were still mad at them for being shitty guys, and that was so important, love really does weird things to us.
and the dancing scene was EVERYTHING!!!! plus, they slept in the same bed even though there were two beds in the room, so...
judy hugging henry because of his bird = my heart cried they really are mother and son
jen telling judy that she could say goodbye and LINDA's SINGING!!!!!!!! a big yes for me
"will you be my person?" "yes, i will be your person."
EPISODE 5
hated this one. jen telling judy she needed space was hurtful, specially because judy was planning a day to make her feel better.
i just really hated this one. jen and ben is a NO, and judy with michelle was bothering me.
the highlight of it, for me, was when jen called judy to help her with charlie because, well, he is his mom too.
plus: the car burning scene was hot.
EPISODE 6
judy and jen talking to charlie like his moms was sooo nice i liked that scene a lot.
the voicemails steve left judy were disgusting. i hate that guy so much and i'm glad he's dead (sorry) and not able to hurt her anymore. we only want happy and safe judy here.
jen was jealous when judy mentioned her "new friend" you can't change my mind on this one.
i actually thought judy and michelle were gonna kiss in the car, but i appreciated that liz dragged it a little bit more.
i loved most of the arcade scenes, specially the ones with their family. i liked how they portrayed jen's relationship with the boys getting good again but didn't drag it on for too long, i think it was quite nice the way they did it.
and no, i'm not here for judy and michelle even though linda looks very hot while kissing another woman.
EPISODE 7
um, judy and michelle slept together and i was not happy. in fact, i made a lot of tweets complaining about it and twitter actually put me on limit for a few minutes. her saying "i love you" felt so forced and fake, i don't know, maybe it's cause i just don't like them together.
i was really appreciating scenes with jen and charlie, even if i don't like him very much. it felt good to see their relationship developing and getting better again because i do love a mother-son plot.
"of all the lesbians in lagoona" (jen included if i may add). this scene really showed a trust between them that i missed, jen telling judy she couldn't see michelle anymore and even though judy was upset she agreed with it because she knows jen only wants what's best for her.
it really hurt me to see that girl pregnant, because i know how much judy wanted a baby and for her to have five miscarriages and have to see that other woman pregnant with steve's baby must've hit her hard.
hated jen and ben together. honestly, it felt so weird to have jen kiss the guy who looks so much like the guy she killed, so, i did not like that.
judy's speech to diana was really important. it really showed more of who she is, really, a person who just tries all the time to do everything right and keeps fucking it up (like myself, i'd say), and i liked that scene a lot, specially when she goes to pick up the plastic bags hahaha.
EPISODE 8
this one showed a bit of why we should've been prepared for episode nine.
jen and judy's first scene was really good. they started it fighting but the ending was so lovely and just showed us how much they love each other and the things they'd give up for the other one to be happy.
i really hated how michelle treated judy on this episode. judy didn't have to tell her anything right away, they were together for five seconds. (or maybe i'm overreacting because i love judy way too much and hate seeing her being mistreated).
the end of this episode showed a lot of phone calls that made me confused and it had a few cliffhangers that i found to be a bit unnecessary. the show is interesting enough and i think liz overdid the cliffhangers a bit in this season, but it wasn't something that deeply bothered me.
EPISODE 9
i have a lot to say about this one so just take a deep breath before i vent lmao.
jen and ben fucked. which i thought was unnecessary and out of character for her. i really didn't see jen sleeping with a guy who has the same face as the guy she killed, and the scene where she looks at ben and remembers steve's dead body was so weird.
plus, i wish they would've gotten deeper into jen's mastectomy story. the only mention to it in this season was when she was in the bathroom, and she couldn't even bring herself to look in the mirror. it was unlike her to sleep with some stranger after that, since she's so ashamed of it, and it made me sad that the first person to see her naked after surgery (besides ted) wasn't judy, who she actually trusts. i didn't need jen to talk about it, because i know her character doesn't like to talk feelings, but the scene where she was alone could've been longer and showed a bit more of her story.
they showed so much of judy's background in the last two episodes and i loved it! i like how they were slowly revealing why her character acts the way she does. we knew she didn't like to be alone, but now we know that it's because she was alone most of her life, and because of that she clings to anyone who shows a bit of interest in her. therefore, why she didn't like nick that much and still tried to make things work out with him, and when steve showed her a little bit more of compassion, she went back to him. and now it's michelle, who she started seeing right after jen told her she needed space. judy is codependent, and i liked to understand her relationship with her mother so i could understand her relationship with others.
jen's scene at city hall was so important and powerful. first, i was afraid she might embarrass herself but she was incredible. the way she called andrew out not even scared if all the white men sitting there wouldn't believe a woman's harassment story, the way she talked about ted and ugh everything was great.
then, things started to go downhill. jen's relationship with the boys started declining again and it broke my heart (but i liked how henry asked for judy because he was sad and wanted to see her). and this anticipated what i elected (as if i have any room to say anything) to be the best scene of the show.
the garage scene. i have so many feelings towards it but at the same time i don't know how to express them.
first, judy said she was going to take the blame for charlie and that right there is what a mom would do (and finally they talked about judy's s*icide attempt). besides that, judy said that jen had a family and she couldn't lose that family, and then we realize how much it hurt her when her mom said she didn't have a family of her own (even though, in season one, jen said she was a part of their family).
linda and christina were brilliant in this bit. linda's expressions send me every time, and personally, i love it when she curses because it shows a side of her character that only comes out when she's really nervous and stressed, since she's always trying to see the good in everything. the way she raised her voice and said a lot of "fucks" really brought a different tone to the scene that we hadn't seen during the season.
jen had a lot of breakdowns during this season. but none of those were as exceptional as this one. ted fucked up her mind badly, and steve saying all those things triggered her to do what she did. imagine being married to a person for eighteen years and finding out, after his death, that he was cheating on you for a year and a half, that really must mess up with your self esteem and how you see yourself. jen is constantly thinking that everyone that she loves hates her and she ends up hating herself (as judy said "i wish you would love yourself more."). she is an extraordinary character and there's so much i still need to know about her.
now, here's something that bothered me. this scene was great, but i think jen was a bit out of character when she said "that's because you love anyone who just gives you a morsel of fucking attention, even if it's abusive. it's like you get off on it or something". honestly, the jen i know and have grown to love would never blame a woman for being abused, even if she was out of her mind for being upset. she saw how judy was mistreated by steve and she always knew he was toxic, but she would never say that to judy, as if she had any guilt on it.
this scene was so raw and chaotic but it was breathtaking, in a good way. judy's "i'm not like you" and their fight in front of the house, also judy's screams, everything was on point.
and then, jen got to see something we've been noticing for the past season and this one as well. when judy's stressed or hurt, she starts self-harming. it was never brought up before but it's something to watch out for. how many times did she curse at herself and hit herself in front of mirrors? and in the car she starts hitting herself really strongly when she's asking jen to stop. now, i don't know which part of her history this has to do with but i'd really like for them to get more into this, as it seems like a great storyline.
jen watching judy sleep and putting her hair behind her ear was so gay pure and i loved this scene so much.
EPISODE 10
what jen did for her family was beautiful, even if it didn't start that well. now, about her letter to judy, i sobbed so much reading that one.
this episode said a lot about diana's humanity. her and jen's talk about their mothers showed another side of her that i really liked. and i'm a sucker for motherhood storylines, so i cried a lot during that scene.
i liked this episode a lot too. loved to see charlie so worried about his mother for once in his life, and how well judy handles things as a mother.
now this is where i get mad. the scene where jen and judy are talking outside was the perfect setting for them to confess feelings. michelle felt like something that judy needed to replace steve, so it wouldn't last anyway (me hoping that she's not showing up on season 3), and because she had that experience, now she could love jen in a healthier way, in a way that maybe she couldn't before. there were so many 'i love you's and so many hugs and touches and no kiss and i was sad.
i loved the way jen said that judy needed to learn how to say no (and also, can she please stop saying sorry all the time? she's always making herself sad to make others happy-- i can't stop seeing myself in her). and it was genius how they used this thing to make her say no to her mom, who only wanted to see her to get out of prison, it showed her strenght.
the way they picked up jen's grief for her mom was really nice, i'd also like to learn more about that in the future. we could really understand where her anger comes from and why she despises herself so much.
and, baby, let me tell you, judy hale is a GENIUS. the money inside the paintings? i never saw that coming and i was so happy watching that scene! specially when she showed jen and they held hands. :(
charlie found the letters and he's finally getting to know what actually happened to his father (i'm guessing), and i wanna see his reaction. and i'm so here for their vacation! "talk to me like lovers do!" she really just keeps playing with my heart. (and jen calling judy "judes" was really cute.)
the last scene was something. them talking about the sign and then ben hitting them because he was drunk? i wasn't expecting that. and, as i said before, liz likes a good cliffhanger, but this one didn't seem that harsh. if she wanted to, she could've just left us in the dark about whether jen was alive or not, but she didn't, and i appreciated that.
i still don't know if this leaves room for another big storyline, maybe this should be something to be solved in the first two episodes of season three so they could jump into something more exciting, i don't know.
"i love you more than wine. thank you for loving me and our boys."
OVERALL THOUGHTS
i liked this season a lot. it felt a lot different from season one, the settings, the air. it was a bit more chaotic, i must say, and i do think they could've maybe chilled for a little bit and left the high point of stress being only on episodes 9 and 10. literally, everything was happening, all the time, and the only time they had to breathe was when they went dancing that night.
there was a shift in my feelings, for sure. last season i picked up on a lot of judy's mistakes and things she did that bothered me. this season, i did that more with jen, but i still love them so much istg i'd die for them (not to sound dramatic or anything lmao). it's just that last season i identified a lot more with jen's anger and behaviors, and in this one a saw a lot of myself in judy, and that might've prevented me from criticizing them as much in their respective moments.
i love this show to death, and i'm just waiting for award nominations that i'm sure will come. let's just hope that, this year, they also acknowledge linda's brilliant acting and even give both of them some awards.
this is me, (im)patiently waiting for a season 3 confirmation and i'm sure i'm just gonna rewatch everything for the next year like i did with season one.
i needed to talk about this season, and twitter doesn't give me enough space to do that, but this is not something i usually do. if you read all of this, you're brave, and i'm thankful for your attention.
now, can liz please make judy and jen girlfriends?

30 songs
I am on a long train ride home rn so I actually have time for the tag game! Thanks so much for tagging me Sev @slightlyintimidating, I really enjoy doing them! =))) 1. A song you like with a colour in the title. “Blue Eyes” by Mika Also “Für mich soll's rote Rosen regnen” by Hildegard Knef (For me it shall rain red roses, but that sounds more graceful in German) 2. A Song you like with a number in the title. Haha - “Eins und eins, das macht zwei” by Hildegard Knef a terribly cheesy and cliché love song, but by Hildegard Knef which makes it all the better. Go check it out, this song (and Hildegard) is amazing. (The title translates to “One plus one equals two” but refers to people, as in like one plus one equals a couple/ lovers. 3. A song that reminds you of Summertime. “Escape (the Pinã Colada song)” by Rupert Holmes (maaan, that song) 4. A song that reminds you of someone you'd rather forget. “No sleep for the dreamer” by BOY No no no no tearing up god no why 5. A song that needs to played out loud. “Dancing Queen” by ABBA 6. A song that makes you want to dance. “Sway” by Pussy Cat Dolls My god that song the innuendo my god I need to dance a Tango to that at some point. 7. A song to drive to. Elvis. Everything by the Kind of Rock and Roll. But for the sake of this list I choose “Guitar Man". 8. A song about drugs or alcohol. What do you expect of me? I'm boring. Okay okay “Strawberry Fields" by the Beatles. 9. A song that makes you happy. Sooooooo depends on my mood. But I’ll just go with the generic “Happy" by William Pharell because it’s true too NO “Lass die Sonne scheinen" by the Wise Guys (translates to let the sun shine, and the song is about how you MAKE the sun shine in your head when there’s every weather (also emotionally) besides sunshine. This song is amazing.) 10. A song that makes you sad. “Fairytale” by Sunrise Avenue also “Ich will zu dir" by the Wise Guys (the title translated to “I want to (go) to you” aw god no that sounds awful and doesn't have half as much melancholic meaning as the German title does. It also implies “I miss you" but like in a stronger way because “I" can’t bear to be in a place you’re not in, everything draws me to you. It’s about a break-up I suppose and how one feels soon after.) 11. A song you never get tired of. Phantom of the Opera. Everything in it. 12. A song from your preteen years. “YELLOW SUBMARINE” by the Beatles. I have no idea what was on the radio when I was in my preteen years, but that was what my dad was listening to. 13. A song from the year you were born. “No Diggity” is the only song I know 14. A song you'd love to be played at your wedding. “All I ask of you” from Phantom of the Opera. Although no, actually I will probably propose with that song. Even though I don't have anyone to propose to, and I am aware that I am a cliché lesbian with that. I already know how to sing that song in its entirety…Also at my wedding I will need to hear the song “This" by Ed Sheeran. And if someone performs “Read all about it" by Emeli Sandé I will bawl my eyes out but in the best possible way.
15. A song you like that's a cover by another artist. “Crazy little thing called love” by Maroon 5. Also everything by Postmodern Jukebox. 16. A song that's a classic favourite. RETURN TO SENDER! ADDRESS UNKNOWN! THERE’S NO SUCH NUMBER! NO SUCH ZONE! by Elvis 17. A song you'd sing a duet with someone on Karaoke. PHANTOM OF THE OPERA and also RISE LIKE A PHOENIX (a good friend of mine wrote a beautiful beautiful second voice to that and we actually sang it and we also sang Phantom of the opera together although we still have to sing a duet together in front of people but I would love to do that one day!!! Our voices mesh very well together, both very classical in sound. So phantom of the opera is really perfect for us. Anyways....) 18. A song you like from the 70s. I don’t know? You expect me to know what time the songs I like are from? Well, you expect too much from me. 19. A song that makes you think about life. “What do I know" by Ed Sheeran 20. A song that has many meanings to you. Sev, I hope I may steal your song because that is also very true to me. So “I will survive” by Gloria Gaynor 21. A song you like with a person's name in the title. GRACE KELLY by Mika HELL I LOVE THAT SONG 22. A song that moves you forward. In which way though? I shall choose “Three little things” by Jason Mraz 23. A song you think everybody should listen to. MY OWN SONGS no, joke, I didn't publish anything anywhere at all. Hm. Let me think. Okay what the hell “Das Wasser" by Wise Guys (the title just means “the water" and the song is about reaching an oasis in the desert after a long, long journey, who knows how long, maybe days, weeks, months, years even and about just jumping into that water and how that feels. I mean it’s obviously a metaphor but yeah. That song is amazing and means so much to me.) 24. A song by a band you wish were still together. You think I know that much about bands? Well, you thought wrong. Oooooorrr I could just say Beethoven to mess with you. 25. A song you like by an artist no longer living. Ummmmmm yeah I'll go with Beethoven's fifth. Or Carmina Burana? There is too much good stuff out there. No, no, I choose Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata because that piece is fucking magnificent (and I have started learning how to play it!!!) 26. A song that makes you want to fall in love. All songs. No. Sorry. I am currently in a state where I want a relationship. Sadly. I wish I could be a 100% happy single and I am 100% happy, but when I'm in a relationship I am 150% happy so - yeah. I am not a good single. Annnnyways. “Ein Kompliment” by Sportfreunde Stiller 27. A song that breaks your heart. Everything by Adele pretty much. But probably “Love in the Dark”. That might be tmi but WHO CARES the content of the song is half the reason me and my ex broke up (but like I was Adele and she was the person she’s singing about). What a self-conscious bitch with shit-ass commitment issues. Sorry. It was mostly a good relationship until the end, I just gotta bitch sometimes. 28. A song by an artist whose voice you love. Adele. And Kristin Chenoweth. And Hildegard Knef. And Marlene Dietrich. But probably most of all Ella Fitzgerald. I choose her song "Mr Paganini", it is so beautifully funny and masterfully sung. 29. A song you remember from your childhood. “Singing in the rain” by Gene Kelly. I remember dancing on the carpet in our living room to that song and them spinning so long until I would fall over from losing my balance. I was a happy child. 30. A song that reminds you of yourself. Ahahahahahaha "Glitter and be gay" from Candide, I still love Kristin Chenoweth's (and my) version most. This was soooooooo much fun I love music so much my god. And there was suprisingly much German music in there =) I’ve been listening a lot to Hildegard and Marlene lately =)
NOW I MAY TAG PEOPLE MUAHAHAHAHAHA (I love you guys):

Rachael’s Favorite FE Characters
Well, since I posted my favorite Pokemon... everything a while ago, I figured I’d post my favorite FE characters class-by-class as well! I’ll also post my least favorites.
The games I own are Sacred Stones, Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn, Shadow Dragon, New Mystery on an emulator, Awakening, Heroes, all 3 Fates & Echoes. I’ve played a bit of FE4 too but I’m not far enough into it to pick favorite characters.
Favorite Lord:
Male- Chrom (He’s pretty vanilla but I still love me my Blueberry Dorklord)
Female- Erika (Who is not NEARLY as foolish as recent entries would have you believe. She’s quite a bit better than Celica at any rate- there’s no way she’d fall for fkn JEDAH)
Least Favorite- Ephraim (He’s such a... warmonger. There is no point in the entirety of SS where I go “Yes, he’ll make a good king!”)
Favorite Avatar
Robin! Robin’s the best. Robin has the best coat. Do I need to say more?
Well, I guess I’ll say too that Robin’s personality is quite a bit like my own, which is why I prefer Fem!Robin. I too, would relentlessly pelt Lon’qu with figs and, when faced with unwinnable odds would, just resort to a Big Fire™
Least favorite goes to... IDK, I want to say Kiran but Kiran can marry Navarre so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Favorite Cavalier/Paladin/Great Knight
Seth wins, but Xander and Berkut are close seconds. Seth/Erika is my ultimate FE OTP- they’re the only ones in the whole series I can’t even bear to pair with anyone else for a playthrough to get their supports. I like Xander/Corrin and Xander/Sakura quite a bit, but neither come anywhere close honestly. And Berkut is my angry garbage son~
Least favorite goes to Jagan. You honestly think I’m going to kill Frey who arguably has better stat growths than both Cain and Abel and keep you? Screw canon, off you go, old man!
Favorite Myrmidon/Swordsmaster/Trueblade
Joushua, obviously!
...
I mean, Navarre doesn’t really count because he’s my favorite FE character PERIOD. Besides Navarre, I like Joshua.
Least favorite is Marissa. Not that crazy about Mia either, but Marissa is just so inferior to Josh stats wise and while he’s tons of fun, she’s no fun at all. If she were in another game it’d different but Joshua makes her look really bad in comparison. Plus she took his spot in Awakening AND I’M STILL SALTY 4 YEARS LATER
Favorite Mercenary/Hero/Dreadfighter
Navarre in FE1
Ike!... Yes, I’m counting him here... Oh fine, Ogma then. They’re both big gay softies that are 40% pure iron muscle and 60% heart. I bet they give the best hugs!
(And no, I don’t believe Ogma’s “feelings” for Caeda are in any way romantic bc he met her when she was like 5 and he was probably 20. He probably feels like her big brother or father- which is equally impossible for him to express due to his lot in life. Plus, Marth never gets jealous around him, while he practically turns green around any of the other characters interested in her.)
(Oh, and I consider Soren to be the more canon partner for Ike over Sothe and Ranulf bc Priam is a thing and I’m like 70% sure Soren is supposed to be trans. And yes, there is a canon lesbian whose name is currently escaping me & Sothe is canonically bi, they just went with the “heavy implied to the point of being basically irrefutable” route instead of outright stating it, so it is VERY possible Soren is trans. I like all 3 ships tho)
Least favorite is... The dude from SS. I can’t even remember his name. He’s the only freaking mercenary in SS and his personality doesn’t do anything for me.
Favorite Knight/General/Baron
The Black Knight of course! His writing is bit... a lot of a mess, but you can’t deny how badass he is.
On a less villainous note, Forsythe is pretty cool too.
Least favorite is... IDK, was there one in Awakening? I thought there was one on the cover but he’s so forgettable...
Favorite Archer/Sniper/Ballistician/Bow Knight/Hunter
Tacomeme :)
Leon is also pretty cool, but he’s not nearly as useful in-game. I like Niles too! But I’d be lying if I said a good part of that wasn’t bc of Takehito Koyasu and his sexy voice rip
Least favorite is Faye in Heroes Python’s inability to hit the broad side of a barn Zero’s stupid name change to Niles Innes. His stats are nice but his personality rubs me the wrong way.
Favorite Pegasus/Falcon Knight/Sky/Kinshi Knight
Probably Claire! I didn’t expect to like her much (I got Maribelle vibes at first), but she really grew on me throughout the game and her supports. I love the way her friendship with Alm was written- if it had evolved into a romance I would have found it believable, but it’s one of the VERY, VERY few times I think IntSys has handled a one sided crush on the main character well.
Least favorite is... Probably Cordelia. Like I said, VERY few times. (Vanessa, Sumia, Syrene, Palla, Catria, Est, Hinoka, Subaki, Tanith and Sigrun all tie for second to last. This is... not my favorite class.)
Favorite Dracoknight/Wyvern Rider/Wyvern Lord
Hmmm... I would say Camilla, but my headcanon version of her is quite a bit different from the way she actually is in canon lol. So... Probably promoted Caeda. Minerva is utterly useless on the battlefield, unfortunately, and I like Caeda about the same as Clare so I put her here.
I guess I like Haar, Jill, Cormag, Gwin, and Valter (As a villain, not as a person) somewhat too.
Least favorite has to go to Beruka. I find her... bland.
Favorite Villager/Recruit
AMELIA THE GENERAL IS COMING THROUGH! MAKE WAY, MORTALS
Do I need to say who my least favorite is? Do I really need to?
It’s Faye. Because... she’s Faye.
Favorite Thief/Trickster/Assassin/Rogue/Ninja
That has to go to Julian! He’s very similar to Gaius, but instead of candy, his thing is puns. Fun fact: I have a blood sugar condition similar to diabetes IRL that makes me unable to eat sugar, so Gaius just made me crave sweets I can’t have most of the time :/
Second place goes to Gangrel or Rennac. Gangrel is actually my second favorite character to romance in Awakening due to his great redemption arc in his supports with both Robins & his talks with Em in the DLC, and IMO he makes the second best dad to Morgan (And yes, I have ALL of male Morgan’s supports with his fathers, yes, it was boring, repetitive, and took hours, and yes, the only one I like better is Chrom), and Rennac is just... so hilariously cranky. They also both go in the “They deserved better in their endings” bin- Rennac can’t marry L’rachel despite their great chemistry and Gangrel flat-out dies if you don’t marry him.
Least favorite... I guess Nina. I never found her very funny.
Favorite Cleric/Troubadour/Valkyrie/Bishop/War monk
Elise! She is... one of two healers I like. In the entire series.
The other is L’rachel.
And Sakura, Lissa, Natasha, and Rena I... don’t particularly dislike.
I don’t like any others. Tat/iana is the worst of the bunch. Tat/iana is actually my least favorite character in the series
Favorite Fighter/Pirate/Warrior/Barbarian
Maybe... Vaike or Ross? Or Boyd? Basilio? Wow, there aren’t any I really like a lot. Guess this is my least favorite class.
My least favorite of all HAS to be Arthur though.
Favorite Mage/Monk/Dark Knight/Sage
Soren! He’s really well written. At first he comes off as a racist asshole, but as the game goes on & you get his supports, he proves himself to be a really great, three-dimensional character. And he’s so gay for Ike. Like, so, so gay.
Least favorite is all of the little red-headed boys that are clones of each other. Except maybe Ewan, because he’s actually useful in-game. Most of the others aren’t.
Favorite Dark Mage/Sorcerer/Summoner/Necromancer/Druid/Witch/Cantor
LYON!!!! Oh man, I don’t want to spoil exactly what happens but suffice to say that he is my FAVORITE antagonist in the series.
My least favorite is either Validar or Iago... I don’t know which to pick. They are how NOT to do a decent sorcerer villain in FE. But all of the Cantors in Echoes also get a special mention for being FREAKING ANNOYING.
Favorite Manakete/Dragon Laguz
Tiki- particularly young Tiki! She’s so sweet... and badass!
Least favorite... ugh, I have to say Myrrh. I do like her, but her uses of Dragonstone are so limited that you can barely use her and while she’s just as cute as Tiki, she’s not nearly as tough. She also has a lot sadder story than Tiki- she’s a really good character, but she just doesn’t make me feel bubbly and happy when I see her the way Tiki does.
Favorite Beast Laguz/Bird Laguz/Taguel/Wolfskin/Kitsune
All hail King Naesala! He’s another character that brings a smile to my face when I see him-and that’s saying quite a bit, since he has a pretty serious story. This man oozes personality- He shows up on screen and you know he’s there to kick the world and rule the ass. And no, that’s not backwards.
Honorable mention to Reyson- every time these two are on screen together you know that Reyson is about three seconds from punching Naesala right in the nose, never mind the fact he’d probably break every bone in his tiny, fragile fist. The fact that Naesala’s only paired ending is with Reyson’s sister is just hilarious to me.
I guess my least favorite is Lyre... She sort of feels like she’s just there to have one more playable character to me, since she has so little bearing on the story.
Favorite Dancer/Singer
In terms of personality, supports, and gameplay, Feena is far and away my favorite. However... I’m honestly not a huge fan of her design, so in terms of appearance, Azura, who I personally think has one of the best designs in the series, takes the cake. The fact she has such a catchy theme song is a huge bonus too!
Tethys gets the last spot because she’s completely useless in battle. I’ve heard Ninian can’t fight either but she boosts your stats- why did they give Tethys the shaft so badly?
Favorite Lancer/Soldier
And finally... ending this on a weird one. See, neither Nephenee nor Oboro do anything for me- I don’t dislike them, but I don’t particularly like them either. So, I guess this one goes to Azura!
#fire emblem#Personal#OK to Reblog!#I hope somebody sees this it took 3 hours#And no I didn't really forget Kellam's name

Netflix LGBT Movies
So a while back I went on a binge of LGBT movies and made a list of ones that I found on Netflix. Hope this helps because I know I had a hard time finding them.
Boy Meets Girl My rating: 5/5 Summary: a transgirl has a fling with another girl all while her best friend realizes he might be in love with her. Set in Kentucky
I absolutely loved it! It was funny, heartfelt, heart wrenching and cute. Plus I’m from the south so it was kind of homey and familiar. Charming. Warnings for full body nudity (like 1 second)
GBF My rating: 3.8/5 Summary: Tanner gets caught up in his best friends scheme to be popular and ends up outed with three popular girls after his friendship.
I saw this one get a lot of shit on tumblr but personally, I loved it. It was hilarious and satirical. B-list actors are familiar faces so that’s kinda nice. I thoroughly enjoyed (and still do its one of my faves) this movie.
RENT My rating: 5/5 It’s RENT. Do I have to say anymore?
4th Man Out My rating: 4/5 Summary: a mechanic comes out to his three very straight friends. He deals with finally being out and they adjust to make him comfortable
This one is a sort of “masculine” comedy I guess? Idk but it worked and it definitely wasn’t too serious and had some ridiculously funny scenes.
Jenny’s Wedding My rating: 3.8/5 Summary: Jenny is getting married to her girlfriend and must come out to her family.
I think this one isn’t so much about the couple, but about the protagonist’s struggles in coming out to her family. Not really a romcom, but more like a drama I guess?? Idk what genre this falls into but some moments really got me.
The Way He Looks My rating: 5/5 Summary: A blind boy’s life is filled with adventure by the arrival of a new student named Gabriel. Gabriel also manages to turn Leo’s best friend’s (Giovanna) world upside-down.
LISTEN HERE CUMSLUTS THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST MOVIES EVER OK! It’s in Portuguese I think? But it has subtitles so no worries. Holy hell oh boy did I love this movie. It wasn’t lacking so much drama that it was boring but it didn’t have too much that it was over the top hectic. They also manage to get some really cute scenes (especially the ending I was squealing). It was good and cute like a really REALLY well written fanfic? Had almost that vibe but better. Overall just a really great movie.
Bridegroom My rating: 5/5 Summary: a documentary about how the lack of marriage equality affected a man when his fiancé suddenly died.
This was just… So sad and real. But really good. It tells their story really well and tugs at your heart.
Boys My rating: 2.7/5 Summary: two boys on the track team fall for each other and one isn’t ready to come out yet.
I… Honestly don’t know how Netflix gave it four stars?? In all honesty the story was pretty dry and too fast paced. Still kinda cute but a little too angsty and suddenly resolved for my taste. From the same productions of The Way He Looks–Wolfe– (but obviously not as good) it had its moments though.
Eat With Me My rating: 3.5/5 Summary: a Chinese cook falls for a British bass player all while his recently separated mother moves in to his apartment.
So the protagonist isnt LGBT, but a Chinese-American woman with a gay son but I still thought it was good enough to mention. This one was a little slow-paced but it didn’t quite drag. There were some moments that were laugh out loud funny but honestly the kicker was the freaking cinematography like DAMN. It was just really aesthetically pleasing and there wasn’t a single shot that wasn’t beautiful! Edit: I THINK THERE WAS A BRIEF BUTTCHEEK OR TWO BUT I CANT REMEMBER
The Perfect Wedding My rating: 3.3/5 Summary: Recovering alcoholic Paul who’s spending the holidays with his parents falls for handsome housemate Gavin, who’s pretending to date Pauls ex.
The acting wasn’t all that great (ok it was pretty bad) but the script was enough to make up for it. Also I ordered this rom com with EXTRA CHEESE. It might be the hopeless romantic in me but god this was like a mediocre-written fanfic it was so cheesy my bowels suffered but it was highly enjoyable. Also the score was original and not many independent movies have great original scores (or ANY scores and it drives me NUTS) but this one was good and fitting.
Blackbird My rating: 5/5 Summary: a black teen struggles with the fact realization that he’s gay, which challenges his faith.
This movie spoke to me, as a bisexual, Christian, poc. Besides that, it was funny, witty, and tugged at the heartstrings. (Also interracial couple!) I saw some negative reviews for it but they came from people who did not understand that being a gay white person is completely different than being a gay poc. Also, I think many critics failed to realize that the main message was about the boys relationship with God and his faith, and how God loves all his children. God is love, and if you don’t have love, you don’t have God. Warnings for suicide, brief child abuse, moments leading up to rape, and mentions of rape after, and brief nudity (buttcheeks).
Cloudburst My rating: 3.5/5 Summary: An elderly lesbian couple escapes from a nursing home to get married in Canada and pick up a hitchhiker along the way.
Thought it would be worse tbh. It’s kind of a darker comedy, one of the main characters is a little raunchy has her mind in the gutter all the time. The ending really got me. Delightfully surprised at how good it was, I mean it’s not the greatest one, but it was enjoyable for sure.
Tangerine My rating: 3.9/5 Summary: when a transgender prostitute gets out of jail, she seeks revenge on her cheating boyfriend.
I DID NOT EXPECT TO LOVE THIS MOVIE AS MUCH AS I DID. It is funny in a really raunchy way and the characters are funny and likable. The story is like when someone’s giving you some good tea I loved it! Production quality isn’t great but it is an independent movie so… Warnings for brief nudity and transphobia.

People On Reddit Share The Dark Secrets That Could Destroy Their Marriages
We’ve all got secrets.
Things we are afraid to tell anybody. People will judge you, especially if your secret is messed up.
That is why we have the Internet. To post our secrets anonymously, facing no criticism and getting it off our chests as well. A Reddit thread revealed people sharing their darkest secrets, which could potentially ruin their lives. Read them below:
“Years ago my gf (we’ll call deb) and I were out with her friend (we’ll call Sara). This one day Sara had to pin unlock her phone each time to take one of many pictures….out the corner of my eye I saw her pin. I saved it in a note. Months later sara and deb were at my place and went to the pool. Sara left her phone indoors. I used her password and hit jackpot. Nudes, videos, message logs with some guy she was talking (well call jeff) to, along with tons of dick picks and videos of him jacking off…
With this goldmine of pics and vids I concocted a slow plan…..very slow. Slowly I broke off with deb but kept in touch with sara. I then created a alter ego online (we’ll call it Vanessa). For months I worked this identity so it looked real. This identity started following Sara on all social media (Sara accepted any friend requests). Vanessa blackmailed jeff. Jeff was given 2 days to stop talking to sara or his dick picks got leaked. He was chicken sh*t and dropped her like a hot potato. But Sara was strong willed…when Vanessa threatened sara to stop talking to jeff or her pics get leaked she protested…so I knew I had to change tactics. Vanessa disappeared for a while until I could get Sara’s phone in my hands for a bit. One day sara was over and ‘lost’ her phone at my place. I ‘found’ it for her the next day…. Not before I installed a spy app that let me keep track of her everything. A few weeks later Vanessa came back but now armed with the conversations sara was having with everyone. While tracking Sara’s reactions and suspicions, I made it show that Vanessa wasnt real….
Now all my friends know me as being pretty tech literate. One day im talking with Sara and she breaks down crying telling me how she been long distance sexting this guy and somebody hacked his or her phone and now shes being blackmailed by some stranger she doesn’t know. So she askes me if I could help her. Long ending short I made it look like jeff was Vanessa. I made it look like he created this person so that he could blackmail Sara into f*cked up sex stuff. Sara left him and guess who was the hero? Me. I caught ‘Vanessa.’ Sara was now safe because of me. Once we blackmailed the guy, ‘Vanessa’ disappeared… You know…for realism. Sara and I now had this tragedythis hurdle that we overcame together. We started dating not long after. She was never going back to long distance relationships and wanted to try local….4 years later were married.”
“My father never had anything other than boys, and my mother always wanted a girl. Try as they might, they just had tons of boys. When I was 6 they adopted a girl of also 6. Everyone was pleased, and she was quickly included into the family by everyone and we all took an immediate shine to her. Especially me.
We started playing ‘doctor’ at 9. This progressed to fooling around by our early teens, and into actual sex shortly thereafter. We’re both over 30 now. We have sex whenever we see each other. We also like to pretend we are twins when we do have sex. We’ve both had our shares of girlfriends and boyfriends, but we always kept it up even while in those relationships. She’s actually married now.
We still have sex about 2 times a month, more when the family gets together for holidays. I can’t even imagine the bricks that would be sh*t if anyone ever found out. It’s been close a few times, especially when we were younger, but nobody’s ever caught on.
#3 From a divorce lawyer who goes by TheLadyInReddit:
“Client is an elderly gentleman, some type of retired professional. His son is a pastor. Everything about his situation seemed very normal in terms of income, property, etc. However, it turns out he had a pretty serious porn hobby and he was concerned his wife might find out and use it against him in the divorce. However, as I mentioned above, I assured him that was pretty run-of-the-mill these days and unlikely to affect anything. He then asks if I feel the same knowing the porn is not ‘mainstream.’ I asked what he means and he looks very nervous. I wanted to make sure he wasn’t referencing CP, so I pushed him on it.
The guy was into goats.”
“My friend inherited a beautiful diamond engagement ring. The stone was worth $20K. His fiance was thrilled to receive it and flaunt it. Now his wife of 25 years, it’s still one of her most precious possessions.
Only I (and you 4 million) know that she does not own the original diamond. My friend sold the stone for $15K and an equal sized, substitute diamond on the day he picked it up from being sized to fit her…
The value of the ring was learned at appraisal, and was actually appraised a bit higher. The $20K was the number he knew he could get from a wholesaler in the district. It is still insured for the higher amount. The stone that was substituted is a diamond – and I couldn’t tell the difference. The money was mostly used to clear debts.”
“I’m an atheist. I’m also a deacon in an evangelical church. I’m not exactly proud of it but I try do my part to convince people to live like Jesus because even if he wasn’t god, he certainly had some good ideas about loving other people.
The problem for me is my family. I’m married with a one kid and another on the way. I believe that such a revelation would be devastating for my wife. I’ve tried to tell her in subtle ways but I can’t bring myself to just come out and say the truth. I love my wife and I don’t wish to harm her emotionally in that way.”
“I am a gay man married to a woman who has no idea I am gay.
How is my life? It’s great. It’s pleasant. I have two beautiful children who I love more than anything. I have a successful job and a lovely home. My wife is one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met. So that is my life.
Myself, however, the way I feel inside is not so good. I feel disgusted with who I am. Growing up in a Catholic household had me living in fear of being banished by my family for revealing my sexuality. That’s not something I’m afraid will happen, that is something that is a well known fact in my family. I would love more than anything to be honest to everyone. I am a coward though…
As ridiculous as it sounds I thought that getting married and settling down etc would make these feelings I had about being gay go away. Before meeting her I was constantly struggling with the fact that I might be gay. My upbringing made me believe that being gay was wrong and so I always tried to convince myself that that’s not who I was. For awhile it worked. I think I wanted so bad to be straight that I just made myself believe I was. I got married to my wife at 23 and for a short time after our wedding I was relieved. I thought ‘Yes, I knew it. I knew I just had to find someone who would clear all this up for me!’ That just came crashing down. We started having sex more to try and get pregnant and that caused me realise [sic] that I am a gay man. I’m not remaining in the closet because I’m too scared of my wife’s reaction. In fact she would probably be the most forgiving. I have decided not to come out because of my family. I’m not exaggerating when I say that they will disown me. They wouldn’t think twice about it. I wouldn’t be happy. I would be lost. Now that I have children that just scares me even more. I wouldn’t ser [sic] them much at all and that’s not an option for me… There are many things I wish I had done differently but I do not regret any of my choices because they’ve all led me to where I am today. My son and daughter are these amazing little people. I live in a great house with a loving and sweet little family. Our marriage (sham marriage as some people have pointed out) is a good one despite my sexuality. Our marriage is healthier than some that I know about and hear about. I have accepted that I may never come out and I’ve learnt to be okay with that. I will consider going to therapy too. This is the most I have ever talked about it. Up until now I have not told a soul and so I have really swept everything under the rug. It is amazing what you can block out if you really try.”
“I once helped out my a female friend’s family by taking care of their cat for a week. Every day for a week, I would go over there and snoop around their house. I found my friend’s diary, and proceeded to read the entire thing. I used this information to get her to like me, and she is currently my wife.”
“I have lesbian sex with my best friend about once a month. Neither of us say anything to our husbands. We drink a good bottle of wine, get tipsy, get nasty, and fall asleep. When we wake up, we laugh, kiss, and go about our lives.”
No ones going to probably find this comment, but I have an addiction to prostitutes. I can’t control myself. I’m also married and my wife has no idea. I spent $2000 on our credit card while she was overseas for 3 weeks. I lied and told her that I had a gambling problem, that’s why I spent so much. Little does she know, I was bringing hookers home.”
“I’m a guy with a foot fetish. And I -never- told my wife even though she has amazing feet. BUT it gets worse – I have a weird twist to my foot fetish. I’m really into ‘pedal pumping’ (i guess that’s the closest way to describe it) and I’m mortified to tell her or anyone else, and never have. When I was a little kid we spent a LOT of time at church during the week for mom’s choir practice and there was a decent looking piano player lady who would kick off her shoes and play the piano barefoot. And even though I knew nothing of my sexuality, I remember Saturday afternoons, being up on the stage/pulpit during boring choir practice, laying on the carpet, playing with Matchbox cars and trying not to make it seem glaringly obvious that I was transfixed watching this lady’s bare foot pushing on that piano pedal…
I was totally transfixed, and it continues to this day. Women playing pianos, organs, driving barefoot, using a sewing machine barefoot. My fantasies usually always involve me imagining myself as the pedal, and the woman has a sexy bare, nylon, or sock clad foot. If it’s a smelly foot even better. I feel guilty and stupid to this day. Why on earth would a fetish like that develop when I was a prepubescent kid?”
“When i was in 8th grade i fell in love with my girlfriend. I never thought it would be possible for someone so young could have such strong feelings. The relationship didn’t last more than three months because my mom and step-dad divorced and i had to move. I thought about her every day since i moved away. I met another person and have been married for 20 years now. I have four kids and have no complaints about my wife. Five years ago through social media i was able to correspond with 8th grade girlfriend. It turns out that she still has feelings for me too. I have been faithful to my wife for our entire marriage but want more than anything to be with my first love.”

I Took Part In a Mass Lesbian Wedding and Here's What It Was Like
The second annual Bride Pride, in Provincetown, Mass., was a mass wedding and renewal ceremony for 84 brides. (Photo: Dan McKeon)
The first time we took our vows, my wife and I, it was 2005, in Massachusetts. Same-sex marriage had been legal for nearly two years in that state, while 11 others had just passed constitutional amendments to ban it.
On that day in late September, we stood barefooted in the sand at the edge of Cape Cod Bay in Provincetown —one of the gayest zip codes in the country — surrounded by a beloved collection of family and friends. We read our self-penned vows, cried, each slipped on a shoe for the traditional breaking of the glass (light bulbs wrapped in linen napkins), and were declared married by a soft-spoken Boston rabbi. Then we all celebrated for hours under a dramatic white tent that sagged at its corners from the winds of Ophelia — a tropical storm that had loomed and threatened that morning, before dying out, to our great relief, before it could reach us.
There were so many reasons why our love felt like a political act that day.
At our wedding in 2005, left, and just before renewing our vows at Bride Pride, on July 22, 2017. (Photo on right: Dan McKeon)
The second time we took our vows was to renew them, just this past Saturday. We were once again in Provincetown. Marriage equality had been the law of the land in this country for more than two years (despite some people, particularly those in Texas and Kentucky, seeming hell bent on rolling back history).
This time we stood on a bluff overlooking town and the bay, in the shadow of the 252-foot-tall granite Pilgrim Monument, a fitting symbol of freedom. We wore sandals and twinning white tees and pastel shorts, and were surrounded mostly by strangers, as we had chosen to take part, rather impulsively, in a mass lesbian wedding. It was the second annual Bride Pride, an event that debuted last year with 53 couples as the biggest all-lesbian group wedding in history, as far as anyone was aware. Saturday was nearly a match, with 43 couples ages 25 to 80, from 14 states, including Texas, Michigan, Illinois, Colorado, and Kansas, either renewing their vows or saying them for the very first time.
This time, the political part was a built-in part of the whole affair. “Provincetown is the perfect backdrop for a wedding. It’s filled with stories of love, equality and acceptance…” noted the website for Bride Pride, organized by Roux guesthouse owners and spouses Ilene Mitnick and Alli Baldwin. “And, what better way to say ‘I Do’ than surrounded by your tribe in the state where gay marriage was first made legal?”
Saying our vows this time, however, somehow felt very personal, which surprised me, as I’d never given much thought — or even credence — to the whole idea of renewing them.
But a lot can happen in 12 years of marriage. In our case, there’s been death (my mother-in-law’s), cancer (my wife’s), and, blessedly, pregnancy (mine), resulting in the birth of our daughter, who was just a far-off hope and dream back in 2005. Reaffirming your vows with the one you made them to in the first place, as I now understand, can be a powerfully grounding and tearjerking experience.
Our daughter is now 8 — a bright and funny beautiful joy — and part of why I wanted to take part in Bride Pride to begin with. She’s heard the story of our wedding so many times, and gazed longingly at the photos, and this seemed like such a wonderful way for her to feel the strength of her parents’ commitment to one another. Because in these times of rolling back rights and increasingly bold hate crimes and the current administration’s embracing of both a vice president who has said gay marriage would lead to “societal collapse” and a housing secretary who has compared being gay to pedophilia and incest, why not show our daughter how unstoppable we are in our love?
It seemed like a good idea, anyway. But seeing a bunch of lesbians getting married is apparently a most boring event for our daughter — and, I’d venture to guess, for the majority of other 8-year-olds living in 2017. Instead of gazing at her moms with tears of joy in her eyes, she sat on the ground at our feet, pouting in the heat and rolling her eyes at the live drum circle, asking, “When can we leave?” She finally perked up when I darted across the lawn and turned cartwheels with her, and when it was time to go, and jump into the bay together for a giggly afternoon swim.
Because to our daughter, love is love. It always has been. And unlike probably every woman standing alongside the monument that day, she had never known the idea of a lesbian wedding to be anything other than a standard occasion.
For her moms, it was a privilege worth repeating.
