Team Gremlin 'verse thought: Tiny SCIENCE!Whitley might regard Doctor Oobleck as a celebrity. He's a Hunstman! He's a Doctor! He writes such interesting articles! The rest of Whitley's family find it extremely amusing, and plot about how to trip the two into 'accidentally meeting' at a scientific conference.

Oh gosh I love that. Whitley is ENAMORED with Doctor Oobleck. He’s a cool Huntsman! and a NERD! He writes amazing things on history and Grimm and Science™! Whitley happily devours his articles, muddling through the adult ones repeatedly until he Gets It and the rest of the team find it endearing.

They totally plot an accidental meeting. Oscar serves as the bait, because they know Whitley will just lose his nerve if he knows he’s meeting THE Doctor Oobleck, and then the others manage to steer the Doctor oblivious nearby this table where two boys are having a conversation-

Check that, it’s one boy ranting at the other enthusiastically.

....Did that TWELVE YEAR OLD just quote one of his most ADVANCED ARTICLES? CORRECTLY?

Doctor Oobleck nyooms over in fascination and Oscar happily sits back and becomes a set piece to Whitley getting to talk to his idol about Science™ and History™. They get into a DEBATE over Grimm biology, because Oobleck has studied them for years but Whitley has grown up most of his childhood with Sondor the Dog Dad and he knows really random stuff just from observing how Sondor behaves in his various shapeshifting forms. It’s pretty endearing to see an adult with a degree seriously and earnestly debate a Smol Child who has memorized most of his articles and also has a bunch of observations of his own (even if he can’t admit that he was raised in a household with a grimm)

Eventually it gets broken up by Professor Port coming looking for “Barty” because his friend never went back to that science conference he’d dragged Port off to. The intermission was over two hours ... ago... oh. Well hello there young man!

Oobleck is all but vibrating in place and not just from his perpetual caffeine high because this child is a GENIUS. A PRODIGY. CHILD COME TO BEACON.

Whitley: uhhhhh I’d have to ask my dad.

Eventually Neo comes to retrieve them but Whitley leaves over the moon because he got a scroll picture with his hero AND HIS HERO’S NUMBER. For if/when he ever applies to a school of his choice.

Oscar finds it all endearing and is so happy his friend is happy.

Oblivious to the utter chaos this will secretly unleash later when Oobleck prints out and frames his copy of the picture with the Little Genius and sets it on a place of pride on his desk.

Where Glynda can see it.

And the Very Distinctive Little Boy With a Top Hat and Cane grinning and making bunny ears in the background.
