Sony PlayStation - Rockman Complete Works: Rockman (Mega Man 1)
Title: Rockman Complete Works: Rockman / ロックマン
Developer/Publisher: Capcom
Release date: 5 August 1999
Catalogue No.: SLPS-02220
Genre: Blast-Em-Up Platform Action
In the future city of Monsteropolis, the use of robot labor has helped civilization grow more than ever before. At the forefront of this technology are Dr. Light and his assistant Dr. Wily, who are commissioned to build six robots to handle a variety of specific tasks. They are named Bombman, Gutsman, Iceman, Cutman, Elecman, and Fireman, in reference to their individual prime functions. Dr. Wily, however, has bigger plans and chooses to take control of the robots and let loose destruction in a bid for world control. Dr. Light fights back with the best tool he has, an experimental human-like robot, Rockman aka Mega Man, who had been tested to perform cleaning duties. Now properly armed, it's up to Rockman/Mega Man to take on the maverick robots, fight his way into Dr. Wily's castle, and end this madness.
Originally debuting on the Famicom, the Rockman Complete Works series contained enhanced 32-bit PlayStation ports of the first six Rockman/Mega Man titles (Mega Man 1 - 6) with extra bonus features including freshly arranged soundtracks, a new user interface, a hints system, and some post-game bonus content. Priced at 2,800 JPY each, the Rockman Complete Works range were eventually ported to the PlayStation 2, Game Cube and XBOX (including Mega Man 7, Mega Man 8, and two Mega Man arcade games) by Atomic Planet under the title "Mega Man Anniversary Collection", released exclusively in the West. The PS2 and Game Cube versions were released simultaneously in 2004, and truth be told, it has to be said that Atomic Planet did not do a good job with the PS2, Game Cube and XBOX ports. The PS2 version only supports 480i resolution, has most of the Rockman Complete Works features stripped, and has very noticeable volume issues. Plus, the PS2 version forces you to use the DualShock 2's analog sticks for character movement. No D-Pad action.
But it's not just the PS2 build that has issues. The Game Cube version does not feature remixed music at all, owing to the limited storage capacity of Game Cube discs which top out at 1.4 gigabytes per disc, and worse, famously has the backwards controls where the B button on the Game Cube controller is for "Jump", and the giant A button on said controller is to "Fire" the blaster gun. It's a shame really, but Atomic Planet wasn't done yet. In 2005, the XBOX version of Mega Man Anniversary Collection was released. The XBOX version has the same audio issues as the PS2 build in regard to audio distortion at high volume, but it supports 480p resolution. But the XBOX version also introduces graphical glitches that are not present in the Game Cube or PS2 version. Mega Man Anniversary Collection is a backward-compatible title for the XBOX 360, but when you play it on an XBOX 360, it has even WORSE graphical glitches!
*sigh*... Rant aside, Rockman's graphics aren't exceptional, but at least they look clean and well-defined. You'll face a wide array of enemies, but most are small, and some are as simple as floating blocks. The game provides unlimited continues, so you can always pick up right where you left off. Rockman's tunes are catchy and should bring back fond memories for long-time NES/Famicom players. It may not look like much, but Rockman's well-conceived gameplay has managed to withstand the test of time. The real meat and potatoes for this PlayStation port are indeed the arranged soundtrack and the Navi mode which actually gives the game a fresh new HUD and actually eliminates sprite flicker! How about that for cool?
Oh, and I have to make mention of the fact it does support the Sony PocketStation memory card gadget thingy. Sony's rip-off of the Dreamcast's VMU actually contained some minigames that you could transfer to from select PS1 games, and this game definitely belongs there.

MY AVIATION ORIGIN STORY
Basically, and I’m not exaggerating, I randomly decided to make a sad-excuse for a helicopter as a part of our wood shop unit in middle school. I genuinely do not know why I chose a helicopter, there is no reason for me to have chosen a helicopter lol. My wood shop teacher is like “I’m actually very intrigued on why you picked a helicopter like what made you pick it? I’m impressed!” And I literally had not answer for him.
My interest was solidified when I went to EAA AirVenture. Watching the F-22 Raptor fly was and always will be breathtaking to me. That demo gave me the love for military aviation and especially fighters that I have today.

Perspective
Plot/Prompt: 'Person A is in love with Person B. B is also in love with A. But somehow, they are both convinced that the other is in love with Person C, who is completely oblivious to all of it.' (specifically requested for the first movie Maverick) Requested By: Anonymous
Pairing: Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell x GN!Reader *No call sign mentioned
Warnings: Some kisses towards the end, but that's it.
Words: 1.6k
A/N: There are mentions of Icemav (idk if that's the proper ship name); and Iceman x Reader, but Iceman is the 'C' in the prompt so none of it is canon to this fic.
-
You watched with a painful curiosity as Pete and Iceman bickered with each other across the room. They both had smiles on their faces as they talked, and to those watching, it was hard to tell if they were a word away from fighting or kissing.
Feeling a presence appear behind you, you glanced over your shoulder to see a grinning Slider, watching the two as well. "Those two need to kiss and make me some money already."
Letting out a small chuckle, you ignore the clenching of your stomach at the comment. You wanted to find it funny, to join in on the jokes, the bets, but you couldn't.
You had strong feelings for Pete, ever since the first day you met. He made you laugh, he excited you. And the idea that he and Iceman might actually have a thing for each other only caused disappointment. Sometimes you could almost convince yourself it was just a love hate relationship edging on friendship, but with all the comments from the others, sometimes you wondered.
All you could do was wait and see. Then again, what would happen if it was just a budding friendship between them? It wasn't like Pete had feelings for you either way. You'd convinced yourself that if he did he'd say something by now.
So, what exactly was it you were waiting for?
As Iceman walked away, leaving a smirking Pete behind, you let out a soft breath as you turned to leave. Not aware of the gaze following after you.
--- --- --- ---
Pete's eyes ran over the crowd in the bar, he only cared to see if one person in particular was there. His chest started to swell with disappointment until he finally saw you at the back of the bar. He felt a smile cross his face, until he saw who was standing beside you. Iceman. He frowned and let out a soft breath as jealousy filled his gut.
When you smiled at him as he was talking, the jealousy only grew, as did his need to go up to Iceman and berate him with his sarcastic comments.
Besides his casual dislike for the cocky pilot, the main reason he liked to push his buttons was because he hated that you and him seemed to have a thing. A relationship, a casual fling, he didn't know, but he did know that it made him angry.
Ever since his first day at Top Gun Pete was enamored by you. Your skill, your wit, your intelligence, your smile, everything. But, he seemed unable to get past friendship.
There were some times when he thought you felt the same. When your eyes would lock and there was a spark. When you grinned at him, or greeted him cheerfully. But then there were times when you'd pull away, be distant, uninterested.
And Pete could only narrow it down to one thing that might cause it, and he was standing right beside you.
"Sooo, you gonna stare all night or go over there?"
Pete jumped slightly when Goose spoke from right over his shoulder. He looked back at him and sighed as his eyes fell back to you as you laughed at something Ice said. "What for?"
--- --- --- ---
Sitting in the break room alone as you wrote in your notebook, you jumped when you heard the door close loudly behind you.
Turning back, you saw a wincing Pete as he slowly smiled at you "Sorry, didn't mean to startle you."
You let out a soft laugh, ignoring the sudden pattering of your heart "It's alright Pete."
He smiled as he walked towards you, he loved that you called him Pete, not Maverick. You didn't call Iceman Tom.
"So, why aren't you out with the others?" He asked, referring to the beach trip everyone else took.
You shrugged lightly "Wasn't feeling up to it today, I guess." That was not entirely untrue. Though, watching another volleyball game was tempting, the main reason, was that you were tired of watching Iceman and Pete bicker and play fight the whole time they were around each other
Pete nodded in understanding as he plopped down in the chair beside you, you looked up at him "Why didn't you go?"
"Oh I did, but why would I stay when my favorite pilot's here by themselves?"
You smiled and shook your head. You both loved and hated those comments, they made you think he was interested in you, but then he'd turn around and give all his attention to Iceman.
Unable to think of a comment back, you continued to write in your notebook. Only a short moment passed before he spoke again.
"Well, I'm sure Ice was disappointed you didn't show."
You paused your writing as you furrowed you eyebrows. You looked up at him, clearly confuse "Why would he care?"
Confusion crossed over Pete's face as well as he comprehended what you said. "Well I thought you two were-" he gestured his hands vaguely, and you rs one brow in confusion. "Dating?"
As confusion crashed down on you, realization did as well, followed again, by more confusion. You shook your head "I- we, we're not...I'm not dating Ice."
Pete sat up in his chair "You're not?"
As quick as hope filled your chest, it was quickly replaced with doubt. What if he was making sure you weren't together before he made his move on Ice?
You cleared your throat a bit as you shook your head again. "No, no we're not, so, uh, you can, ya' know-" looking up you saw him cock his head in uncertainly "Ask him out."
Pete's face changed from confusion, to humor, to surprise in the span on a second as he leaned forward "What?"
There was that hope again. "Aren't yo- Isn't that, why you were asking if I was dating him? I thought you two had a...thing."
Pete stood up so fast you jumped back slightly. He looked down at you in bewilderment "What?! Is that was Goose meant about a bet about me and Iceman!?"
You nodded and he put his face in his hands as he sat back down "Jesus." He mumbled into his hands. Putting them back down he let out a sigh as he looked at you "Me and Ice don't have a 'thing', we're not even friends."
"Yeah, I thought it was maybe a love hate, refuse to acknowledge your feelings kind of thing." You said softly, almost monotone as you tried to comprehend what was going on.
He let out a bewildered laugh as he sat back in his chair. He stared at the wall for a second as he started to think. This was why you pulled away from him, you thought he and Iceman were a thing. Everyone was making bets about it, so clearly you didn't know what was true or not.
"Man that really backfired, didn't it." He mumbled.
"What did?"
He looked over at you "All that bickering with Iceman was because I was jealous and annoyed."
Your heart skipped a beat "About what?" You asked softly.
He remained silent for a moment. He could see the apprehension and hope on your face. "I thought you two were dating, and I hated that. Because- because I wanted to date you."
As your ears and neck started to burn hotter, you felt your chest tighten r"Oh." You said softly, unable to find words.
"Is that okay?" He asked with a soft smile.
"Is it okay that you wanted to date me?"
He leaned forward, his smile widening a bit "Yeah, and that I still want to?"
As he smiled brightly at you, you felt yourself relax a bit, enough to find your words as you smiled at him. "Yeah, it's okay. Is it okay that I feel the same about you?"
His smile widened into a toothy grin as his eyes flicked down to your lips. Meeting your eyes again he nodded softly "Yeah, it's okay. More than okay actually, it's- amazing."
You let out a soft giggle. His eyes drifted down to your lips as he leaned in a little more and whispered. "Is it okay if I kiss you?"
Nodding softly your eyes drifted down to his lips as well, as he leaned in closer. Your lips brushed softly before pressing together completely. Pete brought his hand up to your face as he deepened the kiss. Slowly his hand became entangled in your hair as the kiss became more passionate.
Pulling away a few moments later, you smiled breathlessly at each other. A moment of silence passed before he spoke.
"Did everyone really make bets about me and Ice?"
You giggled. "Yeah, but it was a mixed bag. Some bet you two would end up together by the end of the program, some said you'd fist fight, others said neither."
"And what did you bet on?"
"I didn't bet at all."
"That's a shame, you could have made us some money."
You chuckled "You can talk to Goose about that."
Pete's eyes widened a bit "He didn't."
You shrugged a bit and he shook his head, letting out a soft laugh. Pressing his forehead against yours he stared into your eyes for a moment.
"And did you really think me and Ice had a thing?"
"For the most part I doubted it, but sometimes you two really made me suspect I was wrong." He shook his head and closed his eyes, making you giggle. "I think it was the uncomfortable amount of eye contact." You added.
"I was trying to be threatening"
"You were threatening him with something alright"
"Alright, shut up." Grabbing your chin he pulled you into another kiss, as you repressed a laugh.
xx End xx
I know that was an abrupt ending, but I wasn't sure how to end it otherwise, without it just dragging on.

I’ve been doing a LOT of digging on what path the Top Gun pilots would have taken prior to the events of the movie, specifically Iceman of course, but I found some information regarding the squadrons that Iceman and Maverick would have been apart of directly prior to TOPGUN.
In a preliminary script for “Top Gun”, Maverick speaks to Iceman saying, “You were in 124 with Bargamian.” In Maverick’s line, 124 refers to the VF-124 Gunfighters, a fleet replacement squadron (FRS). Iceman would have been assigned to the F-14 Tomcat and VF-124 in the selection after flight school, and Bargamian is likely a reference to the last name of a pilot Maverick had likely known well. The squadron was located in NAS Miramar, California, and in 1972 the squadron became responsible for training pilots and RIOs in the F-14A Tomcat in the Pacific. These training fleet replacement squadrons would fly out to aircraft carriers to fly day and night carrier qualifications.
In the movie, however, Iceman wears a patch for VFA-25 Fist of the Fleet. This means that he was likely reassigned to VFA-25 for deployment. What is interesting about this is that the squadron never flew the F-14 Tomcat, rather, they only flew configurations of the F/A-18 Hornet. VFA-25 was based out of NAS Lemoore, CA, and was in Carrier Air Wing CVW-14 at the time of the movie. They deployed on the USS Constellation from February 1985 to August 1985, and from September 1986 to October 1986. Their next deployment wouldn’t depart until April of 1987.
In the movie’s opening scene, Maverick and Cougar use the flight callsign ‘Ghostrider,’ the callsign for a real F-14 squadron (VF-142). In the early 1980s, VF-142 was deployed several times on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower as a part of Carrier Air Wing CVW-7 flying F-14s. They deployed from April 1980 to December 1980, from January 1982 to July 1982, from April 1983 to December 1983, from May 1984 to May 1985, and from July 1985 to September 1985. Then they had an extended turnaround while the ship returned to the shipyard for an extensive overhaul and did not deploy again until 1987 with the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.
However, you may notice that Maverick’s patch is NOT for VF-142. The patch has VF-1 written, referring to the F-14 Tomcat fighter squadron known as the Wolfpack. The Wolfpack deployed on the USS Ranger from January 1982 to February 1982 and from April 1982 to October 1982. Then they deployed on the USS Kitty Hawk from January 1984 to August 1984 before returning to the USS Ranger from May 1986 to July 1986. They deployed again on the USS Ranger from August 1986 to October 1986 and from March 1987 to April 1987.
But this does not match the logo for the squadron, rather, the patch’s logo depicts a bird in flight. Aircraft from the NAS Miramar-based squadron VF-51 Screaming Eagles and VF-111 Sundowners were repainted in fictitious markings for the film. One could presume that the logo is meant to be a nod to the VF-51 Screaming Eagles. The Screaming Eagles flew off the USS Kitty Hawk in 1981 but transferred to the east coast following an accident that killed a deckhand from the squadron and injured an aircraft’s crew when an A-7E Corsair II from VA-22 struck one of VF-51s aircraft. They flew off of the new USS Carl Vinson from March 1983 to October 1983 as the ship traveled to its homeport in California. VF-51 is the first F-14 squadron to intercept several Soviet aircraft including an armed MiG-23. The squadron cruised with the USS Carl Vinson from 1986 to 1987.
Obviously, we know that Top Gun was filmed on the USS Enterprise, so this is another inaccuracy regarding his squadron. The USS Enterprise sailed with CVW-11 many times in the early 1980s. They deployed from September 1982 to April 1983, May 1984 to December 1984, from January 1986 to August 1986, from January 1988 to July 1988, and from September 1989 to March 1990. CVW-11 consisted of VFA-14 Tophatters, VFA-41 Black Aces, VFA-86 Sidewinders, and VFA-97 Warhawks.
Basically, none of it will paint you a clear and accurate picture. Obviously, I didn’t expect it to be accurate in terms of dates or aircraft carriers lining up and overall accuracy, but the patches and bars on their uniforms would have been nice. I’ve been trying to put together a timeline for Iceman’s career prior to TOPGUN but it’s a little hard when they don’t flesh out a character with a complete and fool proof backstory. I mean, Val Kilmer had to come up with his own headcanon in order to play his character with at least a little bit of depth.
EDIT: you can find a lot of information on different Naval squadrons using the website seaforces.org, they’ll give you info regarding their deployments and what carriers they were on and what planes they flew. Also, Wikipedia is legitimately a great starting place in terms of research :)
#TLDR; top gun is not accurate#I like research#I go too far sometimes (a lot of the time)#questioning of military accuracy#I am putting together a timeline of his life for my fic because I’m extra#I want to add details from his past with other characters like what sports did he play at the academy#expect more in depth research on iceman’s career prior to top gun to come#is he or is he not Russian? like is it important to my plot? I haven’t decided#tom kazansky#pete mitchell#top gun: maverick#top gun#iceman#top gun maverick#top gun iceman#Maverick#info dump#research#mine#I like planes#just a little thing I wrote#reference
