Okay because an explanation was requested in the tags, here it goes: (warning: math. Warning: long post. A
A set is a "collection of objects". To be precise they have to follow some rules but to be honest I don't know much about that and it shouldn't matter for this post. The "cardinality" of a set just asks "how big it is" in a precise sense. If the set is finite, this is just how many elements are in the set. For example, the cardinality of the set of overripe bananas on my desk right now is one.
Of course, most mathematicians aren't content to just deal with finite sets. That would be too close to the real world. To make sense of the cardinality of an infinite set, we use an idea called a bijection.
A bijection between two sets (say A and B) is a rule that assigns an element in A to an element in B, such that every element in B has exactly one assigned partner from A.
The easiest example of a bijection is counting. If I have five books on my desk, when I count them, I assign each element of the set {1,2,3,4,5} to exactly one partner book. If every book gets counted, and no book gets counted twice, then this is a bijection.
It makes sense then that two sets should be the same size if there is a bijection between them. But this idea gets a little wonky when talking about infinite sets. (You can find way better descriptions if you look up Hilbert's Hotel. Here's a video Veritasium did!)
youtube
But if for some reason you like reading text more than watching nice Youtube videos, here's it goes:
You'd think that the set of whole numbers ({1,2,3,4,5,etc.}) is bigger than the set of whole even numbers ({2,4,6,8,10,etc}). This is because every whole even number is a whole number but not every whole number is even.
But if I give you the rule: "Assign every whole number itself times two," we assign every whole number an even number as a partner, and each even number has exactly one whole number as its partner. So the set of whole numbers and the set of even numbers has the same cardinality!
I won't get into the details (though you can see the idea in the video above at around the 1:57 mark) but actually the set of whole numbers has the same cardinality as integers (whole numbers that can be negative) and even as rational numbers (the set of fractions p/q where p and q are whole numbers).
We might then think that there is only one infinite cardinality. But in fact the set of real numbers (numbers that we use to express distances between points, and which change continuously and without jumps) has a bigger cardinality than that of the whole numbers.
In fact, there is no largest cardinality! (I'll include a proof at the end of this post). We can always make bigger and bigger sets. But what about an in-between cardinality? Is there some set which is "bigger" than the whole numbers but "smaller" than the real numbers?
The continuum hypothesis is the guess that the answer to this question is "no". It turns out however that neither the continuum hypothesis (no in-between infinities) nor its negation (yes in-between infinities) can be proved. And I don't mean that it's an open problem. I mean that there is no possible proof of the continuum hypothesis or using "first order logic" and the fundamental axioms that arithmetic stands on, and there is also no possible proof of its negation.
I don't really have an opinion but I felt like this would be a good shitpost to poll people about whether something that can't be proven is true or not (being true is not the same thing as being provable! a discussion for another time).
Bonus panel! A proof that there are infinitely many infinite cardinalities (Hooray, more math!): Given a set X, we'll say that the power set of X (which we denote as P(X) ). is the set of all possible subcollections of X that we can make. For example if X={1,2,3} then P(X) = { {},{1},{2},{3},{1,2},{1,3},{2,3},{1,2,3}}. (Elements of sets can be other sets! Crazy, right? Also, that first pair {} that I put in is not a typo. It is the set with no elements, called the empty set.
Theorem (I think this is due to Georg Cantor. Tumblr, pls make your jokes about outliers and infinities): Given a set X, there is no bijection between X and P(X).
Proof: We'll proceed by contradiction. Suppose there was a bijection. If x is an element of X, we denote the partner in P(X) it's assigned as f(x). Now remember that f(x) is an element of P(X), so by definition it is a subset of X. For any given x, we can ask if it is a member of f(x).
Now let A be the set of x contained in X which are not elements of f(x). As A is a subset of X, it is an element of P(X). And since f is assumed to be a bijection, there is some element a of X such that f(a)=A.
But now, is a contained in A? If it is, then by the definition of A it is an element which is not contained in f(a). But as f(a)=A, this is a contradiction. And if a is not contained in A, then by the definition of A it follows that a is contained in f(a), which again is A.
Therefore the original premise is wrong and there is no bijection between X and P(X).

Goncharov shouldn't have been as big a meme as it was. The Goncharov meme is bad, especially for anyone with any unreality issues. Dead serious.
Yeah, you do make a valid point. Unreality memes are fun, but there are people with genuine unreality issues that were affected by the Goncharov trend.
That being said, I do think that a lot of the fan works - art, writing, shitposts, etc. - inspired by that meme were really fun, and clearly took a lot of effort - and the results were super impressive. So I think the fact that it served as a creative outlet for so many people shouldn't be discounted either.
But you're right, it wasn't a great experience for people with those issues with unreality - but my takeaway from that was the importance of content warnings and tagging things properly, not that the meme itself - or just unreality content as a whole - was bad.
I followed the Goncharov tag when it was at its peak, and I constantly saw people begging other users to tag their posts as #unreality - and while plenty of people were doing that, it felt like just as many weren't.
I don't believe for a second that people were seeing those posts and just choosing to ignore them, because one thing I have learned over the past 3-4 years is that the vast majority of people on this website do genuinely care about the wellbeing of others; and I know that for a fact because a) all you guys have been so supportive of me up until now (<3), and b) because I spent so much time in my shithead teen years sending fucking horrific abuse to those same kind, genuine people, and the way everyone rallied around each other against my scumbag ass is a testament to that kindness.
So I think it's far more likely that they simply weren't seeing those posts, and just didn't know that unreality content can be a trigger for some people - because I genuinely didn't either until the Goncharov meme came around and people started talking about it. It's the same way I didn't know until I started this blog that the things I originally wrote in the master post were triggering people's OCD to the point where they had to blacklist the URL.
At the time Goncharov was a thing, a lot of people were saying that people making content for it should've just 'educated themselves' and then they would've known to tag stuff '#unreality', so it was their fault their work was affecting people with unreality issues - but personally I think that just wasn't fair, because honestly you can't know to educate yourself on an issue that you don't even know exists in the first place. You first need to know what it is you don't know before you can actually learn about it and fill that gap.
I have no idea if any of that answered your question because I'm drunk out of my fucking mind, so I don't know if any of this made sense, and I probably won't remember it in the morning - so:
tl;dr - I don't agree that the Goncharov meme was bad, but I think it did highlight the importance of content warnings and tags.
...unless you thought the meme was just unfunny, which is a different issue - that's an entirely subjective opinion, but I can totally respect it. And that's coming from someone who learnt last week that they apparently Goncharov'd themselves on at least three separate occasions, and has yet to fully recover from that revelation.
Anyway, I hope that all made some kind of sense...
...you guys want a poll?

Favourite Fantasy Races
Preamble about Tolkien
Tolkien created the modern fantasy genre, and there is very little to criticize about it. Other than the fact he wrote it as an alternate history to our world. Our world doesn't have Elves or Dwarves or anything, and so he had to explain why, i.e. extinction. It is almost impossible to compare his mythology with anyone else, for one reason he has so much detail that he accounted for thousands of years of linguistic drift, and for the other, he had no contemporaries. His contemporaries made fun of him for wasting his time on it.
As such, most of Tolkien's races will not be included here.
Dwarves
My longtime favourite fantasy race. Unfortunately, very few people have any idea about them. Tokien made them Jews, but postitive, but also added simple and solid foundations for them. They lived underground because they dug too greedily and too deep. That said, a lot of Neanderthal features ended up becoming Dwarven features, as if we all had some genetic memory to draw from, (Tolkien was big on genetic memory).
While Dwarves in Nordic myth were known for being greedy, the only reference Tolkien had with Dwarves was that they DUG too greedily. They played with power they could not comprehend, and it lead to their downfall.
Alright, so, why do Dwarves have a reputation of being greedy?
How about because they are literally the ones digging the precious metals out of the mountain? How about skilled labour was the best way to make money? Oh, and trading. Jews afterall, so it would make great sense for them to have a strong understanding of economics. And then you had France that was so non-functional that they couldn't tax the nobles that actually had the money.
So, hard work, trade, economics, and time, all things that Dwarves have in spades.
Oh, and for the record, Tolkien never once said that female Dwarves beards.
The Lion of Cynn: My own unpublished fantasy series. The Dwarves of the Lion of Cynn cycle are not as exciting or fantasy as most other series, but they are fantastic for character stories, (and every story should be a character story).
Overlord: If you have to have underground Dwarves, this is the way to do it. They actually have a coherent city, and it explicitly states that they trade for food. There are other nations from other races that they have external relations with.
Ingir: Ingir was a series of polls and shitposts to cobble together a fantasy world, but as such, it focuses on nation-scale designs that are very rarely considered. It also takes the real-world consequences to the existence of magics, and how societies would respond to them. TL;DR they have alchemy that basically creates nuclear power plants.
Warcraft: Not World of Warcraft, but pre-World of Warcraft Warcraft. The Great Wars ripped them out of their isolation in the mountain homes, and forced them to interact with the rest of the world. Their answer? Archeology. Dwarves spread across the world, exploring ancient ruins. Of course, this is a world where there are dangerous nearly world-ending relics and ruins strewn all over the world.
misc: Unfortunately, while Dwarves are one of the most common races, they are the least developed. They are often tokenized, and reduced to a single point. Ghim is one of the best Dwarves ever created, but he's just one man Dwarf. Gimli is the same. Dwarf Mage from Goblin Slayer is also fantastic, but that is an IP expressly created to not have character development, and falls on it's face whenever it tries.
HM:
Warhammer: Warhammer is based on the principle of everyone fighting everyone. As such, the world is kept loose, to allow everything to be changed to justify the change. As such, there are a number of points that have incredibly deep lore, but not a world you can really adventure in. 40K had Dwarves, gave them great lore, retgoned their own Dwarves, brought them back without ever acknowledging that they are Dwarves, and then bringing the original space Dwarves back. This time they had a much more well thought out army, but suffered from the tinge of wokeness.
Dragon's Crown: While almost exclusively a combat game, the Dwarf took old-school race-as-class Dwarves and did a fantastic job of them.
Dragon Age: They had an incredibly unique take on Dwarves, some of which I completely disagree with, but still fleshed out in incredible detail. Unfortunately, they seem to be going with the same way that Tokien was, by making everything other than Humans nearing extinction.
Darksiders: The makers are taller than even Nephilim, and literally crafted worlds.
Thor (marvel): Similar to Darksiders, but this time using a star they are stopping from collapsing to craft them.
Arcanum: A fantastic game in theory, a pretty shitty game in practice. Arcanum was the crucible that created my understanding of Dwarves. See, Dwarves in the setting had steam technology, and were only using it to draw water out of a mine. A Human took the technology and created the industrial revolution. Everyone with an interest in Dwarves should play through until you make friends of Magnus.
Elves
The most common fantasy race. Surprisingly, Japan is often much closer to the original Elves than the West. Everyone in the West is so intent on deconstructing every - single - fucking thing, that Elves have lost their divine nature. We can probably blame Warhammer for asshole Elves.
Skeleton Knight: Elves are divine and human, and eternal, but age slowly. This is very rarely well done in works. The Elves have decade-long discussions about politics, and forget that only 500 years ago doesn't apply to Humans. Their solution to the dangerous world around them was to wall it off and create a paradise. Unlike Tolkien, paradise isn't given to them, but the product of millennia of careful management. They also have very well established combat abilities. Skeleton Knight is one of worlds that does practical magic incredbily well.
Unicorn Overlord: The most extensive Elven nation that might have ever been created. And I don't mean just big, but finely crafted in ever detail. They live at peace with the Fey, and use them to bring themselves prosperity, as they hide from the outer world of warring Human nations. They weave magic into every aspect of their lives, and combat. Another one that does Elven magic combat as completely distinct from that of Humans, and does it fantastically well.
Cynn: Again, my own fantasy world. Elves live so long that they just ignore most of what happened. You have to ask really specific questions. Their long lives have also prevent them from really creating a culture, as the magic running through their bodies causes extends far enough to make sure that equipment carried on their bodies lasts nearly as long as they do.
Warcraft: Not World of Warcraft, but pre-World of Warcraft. WoW is the best and worst thing to ever happen to Warcraft. It put you in the living world, but the most simplistic version of it. And then you get to watch as they torture the lore to have the Blood Elves gain Paladins by torturing what's basically an angel. Warcraft is one of the first IP's to actually take Tolkien's work and delve into the history of it. This is back from the Long, Long Ago, when video games came with novels worth of gamelore. They created the Kaledorei, Children of the Stars, and turned the original Elves from into the High Born, or Quel'Dorei. They had the highest magickal ability, and used this to claim the magickal might makes right. The Kaledorei are a brilliant use of the Dark Elf trope. Rather than being evil, they were wild. The females worshipped the moon, while the males took the form and nature of wild beasts. Combat-wise, as it is WARcraft, afterall, they made the Elves a unique blend that doesn't exist anywhere else.
DM:
Warhammer: Single-handedly responsible for the Elves are Assholes deconstruction that we still have to live through.
Gnomes
Gnomes are near and dear to my heart, but I honestly don't like any of their designs.
Lion of Cynn: Yes, again, my own world. I worked hard to account for their disparate nature.
World of Warcraft: Unfortunately, we never truly see Gnomes until WoW. There are a couple of Gnomish units that established them as Tinker Gnomes, but that was it. Which was unfortunately the best Gnomish design. Unfortunately because of how WoW destroyed not just Warcraft, but every - single - thing that Blizzard would go on to produce.
Beastfolk
Very common in anime, for one simple reason. Catgirls. Catgirls that are oppressed. Catgirls that the protagonist can legally enslave, and then treat her better than she had ever been treated before to earn her undying loyalty. Unfortunately, because it's Japan, they tend to just have animal ears, and maybe a tail. This does match some descriptions of Youkai in Japan, however. Many of whom could actually transform into a much larger, more monstrous form.
Unicorn Overlord: This establishes the different beastfolk as bloodlines. Each race is unique, into the world and in combat, and perfectly strides the line of animal and man. The characters also pay respect to various mythologies.
Monster Girl Doctor: MonMusu did a lot of research into making the animal girls truly unique, but it's main flaw was a complete lack of a story. This was solved in Monster Girl Doctor by making him a doctor, and as such we ended up with a much more fleshed out world, that has history, weight, and... cute monster girls.
Cat Planet Cuties: A complete parody of the entire history of science fiction with beautiful, soulful characters. The premise is that Earth makes first contact with aliens, and they are cute catgirls, who are in a cold war with cute doggirl aliens. And they act the perfect combination of Human and Cat(girl).
Mushoku Tensei: Mushoku Tensei is the ancestor of most modern Isekai stories. Or, to put it another way, 95% of Isekai stories are a cheap knockoff of it. Every single facet of the world that Mushoku Tensei delves into, it does in fantastic, beautiful, and horrifying detail. And one of the things they did was visit the recent Wolf Girl's tribal home.
Arifureta: One of the only isekai anime to actually... differentiate their Beastfolk. Not just from Humans, but from each other. And, to be honest, Shea is one of my favourite characters of all time in anime.
RWBY Chibi/Fanworks: RWBY gave us a wide variety of Beastfolk in the Faunus, and then did practically nothing with them. To be fair to V1-5 seasons, V1-3 had 3-5min episodes, and 4-5 was resolving the storylines already created. V6+ has no such excuse. But then RWBY Chibi just wanted to have fun. They gave Faunus the traits of their animals, and this encouraged the fans to have even more fun with it than they were already having.

I’ve been lucky enough to avoid this drama due to stepping away from the Bionicle fan community for a while…buuuut I am too curious for my own good. So I’ve got to ask, what is the drama surrounding the TTV Canonization Contests?
They have been handled extremely poorly.
Round 1, Helryx, is something I've explored here. To give a TL;DR, it had basically no rules and extremely limited moderation. People made whatever the hell they felt like and called it "Helryx", and the whole thing was eventually dominated by a very obvious shitpost entry that attracted multiple coordinated brigading efforts because it sucked so bad. One of TTV's site mods actually DQ'd it instantly, but Eljay reinstated it for basically office politics. It was ultimately defeated by an entry that, IMO, looks less like a Toa and more like a Voyatoran-style Turaga, and the builder was a massive asshole who harassed and bullied other members of the community off-site. He also deleted his build-breakdown video (required by the rules to ensure no modified pieces or illegal techniques are involved) and replaced it with a link to a video of a farting hippo, because Rickrolls are just too mature for some people.
Round 2, Artakha, went relatively smoothly. However, it was almost entirely run by former TTV member Kini-Hawkeye, while Eljay and Meso did very little to help. Hawkeye did make a few mistakes, mainly not giving late-submitted entries to the art rounds time to correct rule-violations, and making a bit of a mess of the polls, but the resulting MOC and art were universally beloved by builders, artists, and Greg alike, everyone... except the artist, who in response to the recent drama has requested their name be struck off of the BS01 page for the character.
Round 3, the Toa Hagah, started in May, and has been running at a glacial pace ever since. Eljay and Meso have dragged their feet massively, citing work and life issues (fair), stalling to release updates on 8/10 (questionable), tiredness from attending Brickfair VA (no), and being sad over Sokoda's anniversary diorama dying again (fucking ridiculous) as reasons for their lethargy, and have also been radio silent through a lot of it. The fandom has gone increasingly stir-crazy, often devolving into open rebellion, demonstrating that they can run this shit better than TTV can, calling TTV out for their BS, etc. And all this for a contest to decide the appearance of four unmade clone sets. Also the dickweed that made the winning Helryx won again with a Bomonga that used Metru torsos for all of his limbs, but was presented in such a way that actively thumbed the nose at TTV's rules and moderation... and he got away with it because Eljay and Meso were actively not paying attention to the entries.
We just had a big external survey that indicates that while a lot of the fandom remains pro-contest, they are deeply unsatisfied with TTV's handling and may prefer it to be either conducted by an alliance of Bionicle fan sites (Including TTV but also BS01, BZP, Mask of Destiny, and Red Star Games), or given over to one of those entirely.
It's been ride.

Tumblr media
It's a weird choice for them to make considering they were given the benefit of the doubt when they made an antisemitic joke, to not approach you with similar benefit of doubt solely because... you've been on TV? They dislike Wesley Crusher? Idk, man, but it's a bad look.
"Hey man, it's the OP, I see you enjoy my content, can you reblog from source rather than repost screen caps? It's the cool thing to do." I guess just doesn't get the lols. Unfortunate. Let's be real. It was a shitpost, not a work of art. I've never seen Wil not give credit where due when simply asked, even on posts he didn't even make.
My content gets reposted all the time. On sites I've never even been to. Would I rather it not? Sure. Am I going to poll the public about the level of cruelty I should inflict on another human person, inadvertently (or otherwise) insuring a bunch of other people who follow me are also cruel out of some weird parasocial loyalty? No. That's weird. In the bad way.
tl;dr: he's right, this is disappointing.
I wasn't even aware of that drama that sprung up, and looking into it, I'm also going "why are they accusing you of stealing the post?" You didn't do the screen cap as far as I can tell, plus you didn't erase any usernames like some sites that actually steal posts to get ad traffic do. Hopefully it all just blows over quickly? Good luck!
People who know nothing about me have been attacking me for my entire life, starting with the man who was my father. This is nothing new to me. It's not the first or last time I will be brigaded by an armada of white knights who I want to believe are well-intentioned, even if their actions aren't the greatest in the moment.
Within 24 hours, nobody will remember any of this, including the wonderful post that hopefully made lots of people laugh the way it made me laugh. Which is a bummer, because that's a great post.
On a personal note, I doubt very much that anyone cares, but imagine what a bummer it is to find something you like, share the thing you like, and then the person who made that thing decides it wasn't shared in the appropriate way ("stolen"? Really? I'm an artist, too. I know what stealing is and this isn't it) ) so they send wave after wave of random angry children at you to disrupt your day as much as possible. And when you make the effort to reach out to them, they choose to be a dick about it.
Okay. That's a choice.
I mean, you want the 85 cents of ad revenue I guess someone says I cost you? Okay, fine. How do you want me to get that to you? Bitcoin okay? Question: Are you raging against Witches Vs. Patriarchy for posting it? How about all the other places and people who saw this, thought it was great, and just shared it the way people do online? Did you put them on blast, too? What is it about me that made me worth the effort?
It's all a giant bummer, and what a shame that this whole thing started with something wonderfully entertaining and clever that I shared specifically to make people happy the way it made me happy. And now it's just this ... this fucking thing where I'm the asshole.
Sure, Jan.
