Just told my boyfriend last night that I shipped two fictional cats and his reaction was to tell me it wasn't a real ship, not because the characters are literally cats, but because they're a canon couple and in his eyes, all ships are by definition automatically non-canon. Cue us spending a half hour jokingly debating the semantics of the term "ship," which ended with me pulling out the Wikipedia page for shipping and showing him the "canon ship" section.

What I'm saying is the best kinds of relationships with nerdy SOs are not the ones where they call you cringe, but where they accept your cringiness but just wonder if you're using the correct terminology for it.
