For the Everyone Knows AU, would Abstergo survive? What will the Templars do with the world against them

The “Minerva says ‘fuck it’ and tells the entire world of Desmond’s sacrifice which snowballs into Desmond being worshipped as a god and a holy war” idea that is the basis of this ask.

Honestly? They would probably be able to stave off an actual witchhunt for a bit by going “we can’t be sure of the validity of everything we just saw!” and a worldwide investigation would start. That’s the point where the politicians and other high-ranking members of society under Templar control or allied to the Templars would have to make a choice. Stay with the Templars or throw them under the bus.

But they can’t throw them under the bus.

Not when the Templars have dirt on all of them. Not when investigating the Templars could easily make people see their own dirty laundry.

So nothing happens.

The investigations may be hindered at first.

Abstergo stocks plummet.

Inconclusive evidence due to the lack of time.

They could only scratch the surface of Abstergo’s dirty laundry before official government-sanctioned investigations are just stopped dead cold.

Because, at that point, the government and other powerful people would want to focus on the search and retrieval of POEs.

That would be more important.

And that greed…

That self-preservation by those on top…

Will be one of the main reasons for the rise of religious sects and cults worshipping Desmond as a god.

The powerless, those who had been wronged so many times…

Ex-Abstergo employees who left the company and tried to tell the truth but were called ‘mentally unstable’ or ‘disgrunted’, their names thrown into the mud…

These people would see the corruption and the injustice.

They would see how the Assassins remain in the shadow out of perhaps fear or perhaps they did not want another Great Purge…

Regardless, these people would see that the Assassins have also ‘thrown away’ Desmond’s sacrifice.

So they take up arms.

And soon enough…

That leads to the Holy Wars.
