Once upon a time, a plucky college junior donned a red hoodie and butch boots, fired up her rusted-out Le Baron, and went on a road trip to Palm Springs (to visit caustic Grandma Mars). Along for the ride (because who doesn't love road trips?) are: her vivacious heiress roommate, Lilly, whose constant gift-giving hides a secret agenda: Lilly's somehow-too-perfect, future-senator brother: and Lilly's surly celebutante ex, who sports a suspiciously toothy grin, and a sackful of red apples.

Atty. Gen. William Barr Resigns
LOS ANGELES (OnlineColumnist.com), Dec. 15, 2020.--Vilified for everything except his bagpiping, 70-year-old Atty. Gen. Bill Barr announced his resignation now that movers have been called at the White House.  Barr was deprecated by the anti-Trump press as his lapdog, when in fact he was an independent voice for common sense in a Department of Justice that went wild.  Barr stepped up against the anti-Trump press to inject the rule of law into a rogue Justice Department that ordered 60-year-old former FBI Director James to launch a counterintelligence investigation into 74-year-old President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, spying on his campaign and his White House.  Comey denied “spying” insisting his probe was legal because he used real “probable cause” to investigate Trump and his campaign’s ties to the Kremlin.  Few knew at the time that Comey used former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s opposition research.
Barr appointed 70-uear-old U.S. Atty. John Durham (R-Conn.) to investigate Comey’s Operation Crossfire Hurricane that spied on the Trump campaign.  No one in the media liked it when Barr said Comey “spied” on Trump’s campaign, prompting denials insisting that he had probable cause. Comey’s probable cause or “predicate” was Hillary “Steele Dossier,” a compendium of fabrications and outright lies about Trump’s ties to the Kremlin, all designed to sabotage his 2016 campaign.  Comey used Hillary’s rubbish to secure warrants from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act [FISA] court to wiretap various Trump campaign officials.  Two years and $40 million later, an exhaustive review of Trump’s ties to the Kremilin by 76-year-old Special Counsel Robert Mueller proved the obvious:  There were no Trump ties to Russia.  Yet Democrats and the anti-Trump press insisted Trump was linked to the Kremlin.
Trump has great misgiving about Barr’s performance because his investigation into the origin of Comey’s Crossfire Hurricane investigation came up with nothing yet.  Trump hoped Barr would have indicted Comey and several other FBI officials that took part in Crossfire Hurricane but no indictments came, leaving only unanswered questions.  Barr’s critics, in-and-out of the Department of Justice, slammed him for recommending June 1 that 73-old U.S. District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan drop Mueller’s perjury charge against Flynn.  Instead of accepting Barr’s well-reasoned logic, the Democrats and the media went wild accusing Barr or breathing his oath of office.  Barr simply said that Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn did nothing wrong when he talked to former Russian Amb. Sergey Kislyak during the 2016 transition.  Barr said there was zero probable cause for the FBI to interrogate Flynn at the White House.
Yet to the media they could never see Barr as a seasoned legal professional that was trying to get justice right, not continue the Democrat and media witch hunt against Trump and his campaign.  Barr, like so many others in the Trump administration, sees the handwriting on the walls that President-elect Joe Biden will be sworn in as president Jan. 20, 2021. There’s simply no reason to stick around any longer than necessary.  Barr said that his Deputy Atty. Gen. Jeff Rosen would take over after he leaves Dec. 23.  While Trump has a bad taste over the lack of justice in the FBI’s spying operation against him, at least Barr appointed Durham Special Counsel to continue his investigation into Crossfire Hurricane.  Whether Barr indicted Comey and other rogue FBI agents before the Nov. 3 election, it’s doubtful it would have changed the outcome.  Universal mail-in ballots did Trump in.
Whether it was about Flynn or Crossfire Hurricane, Barr tried to administer justice in an equitable manner.  Eventually Trump pardoned Flynn Nov. 26, ending Sullivan’s attempt to continue Flynn’s case.  Trump can take some relief that Barr started an investigation into Hunter’s Biden’s taxes and other business transactions in Ukraine, China and Russia.  Trump hoped that a Oct. 14 New York Post story implicating 50-year-old Hunter Biden and his 78-year-old father Joe in illicit Chinese business deals that netted the Biden family millions mattered.  Joe said Oct. 22 in the last presidential debate in Nashville that he never took one penny from any foreign government.  But it was obvious that the Biden cash run through Hunter and his 75-year-old brother Jim’s bank accounts, making Joe look like a liar.  Then Hunter’s 48-year-old former business partner Tony Bobulinski confirmed Joe’s involvement in Hunter’s Chinese deals.
Barr did what he could to administer justice when it came to the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane investigation, knowing that justice takes time.  Whether completing the investigation earlier would have helped Trump’s chances is anyone’s guess.  What’s known for sure is that Barr got his share of media condemnation without merit.  Whether it was the Crossfire Hurricane probe or Lt. Gen Michael Flynn, Barr tried to get it right, despite all the negative press reports.  “Good riddance,” said 60-year-old House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) who made up more stories than Grimm’s Fairy Tales.  Schiff’s impeachment buddy House Judiciary Chairman Jerold Nadler (D-N.Y.) agreed. When Biden picks his Attorney General, he’ll do so not to advance the rule of law but to do everything possible to cover-up Hunter’s overseas business deals that implicate him.

Weekend power rankings: Counting down my worst rankings of the season (so far)
We’re getting into that time of year when power rankings start to lock in from week-to-week. A team might still occasionally have an especially good or bad week and move a spot or two, and every now and then a dark horse will make a surprise charge down the homestretch. But generally, once we get past the trade deadline and close in on the 70-game mark, there really isn’t much reason to make big changes to what we have. Spoiler alert: The Lightning are in first place again this week.
Before we can start looking at our Stanley Cup and draft lottery hopefuls, let’s take a look back with a different kind of top five: My five worst rankings from this season.
I’ll pause here so you can all make your “How did you narrow it down?” jokes.
It’s true that in one sense, we’ve got plenty of candidates to choose from. In all, there have been 15 teams that have made at least one appearance in the top five, and 13 that have made an appearance in the bottom (including one team that showed up in both). That’s a lot, more than in any previous season I’ve been doing this. It’s been a volatile season. Or maybe some of the picks have just been bad.
To be honest, I don’t think anything stands out as an embarrassingly awful call; it’s not like there was some week that had Tampa in the bottom five or the Kings as a Cup contender. But that’s a low bar and let’s just say that some of those picks hold up better than others. Today we’re going to take our medicine and own up to five of the worst:
5. Arizona Coyotes ranked No. 1 in the bottom five (Oct. 5) – The Coyotes might end up making the playoffs and at one point I thought they were the odds-on favorite to finish dead last. That’s not a great look, although in this case, it comes with a pretty decent excuse: The season was just a few days old. We even called that week’s rankings the “way-too-early edition.” The Coyotes had started 0-2-0 so they were probably as good a pick as anyone; within a few weeks they’d made their exit from the bottom five to great fanfare, never to return. But for one week at least, I thought they’d be worse than the Senators, Red Wings or Kings. They were not.
4. Colorado Avalanche ranked No. 4 in the top five (Dec. 3) – “I’ve never fully bought into the Avalanche. I still don’t, if I’m being honest.” Good for you, past me, but you still let a hot streak mislead you into ranking them as the fourth-best team in the league. This one only lasted a week, but it doesn’t hold up well and unlike with the Coyotes, I can’t claim the “it was early” excuse.
3. Buffalo Sabres ranked No. 5 in the top five (Nov. 26) – Of all the teams to crack the top five this year, none will finish lower than the Sabres in the final standings. In that sense, no call was more wrong than this one.
If that’s the case, why not rank it higher? For one thing, the Sabres only showed up in the top five once, at the tail end of that ten-game winning streak. That stretch had briefly elevated Buffalo to first place overall, and yet I only had them fifth that week. More importantly, my writeup was packed with caveats, like that their top-five case “is far from iron-clad” and that this is “probably the only chance to slide them into the top five” and “Will it last? Maybe not.” Reading it all these months later, I half-expected to go back and see that the first letter of every line spelled out “I don’t actually believe this ranking.” But I still made it, so I’ll own it. (But do check out the comments that week from furious Sabres fans who insist I’m short-changing them by ranking them below the Lightning.)
2. St. Louis Blues ranked in the bottom five (five weeks total, as late as Dec. 10) – I have to include this one, especially since it lasted over a month. But the funny thing was that at the time, nobody thought I was wrong. If anything, it became a running joke that Blues fans were mad that I was going easy on them (they dipped as low as No. 3 for a few weeks). As I wrote on Dec. 10, “something big has to be coming in St. Louis.” I was right, just not in the way I thought I was.
1. Minnesota Wild in the top five (for three straight weeks beginning on Nov. 12) – The Wild aren’t as bad as the Sabres and might finish ahead of the Avalanche too. But what stands out here is how long I had them listed – three weeks in all, with them drifting as high as third after a big win over the Jets. And I can’t even fall back on hedging my bets when I wrote about them, because I was saying things like “Yeah, it’s probably time to start taking them seriously” and “Honestly, (fifth spot) is probably too low for the Wild.”
They were playing well at the time, going 10-2-0 at one point, but it was a stretch powered largely by red-hot goaltending from Devan Dubnyk. He eventually cooled down and then got hurt to start an extended cold streak. I couldn’t have seen an injury coming, but I was too eager to buy into the Wild as a legitimate Central favorite instead of what they were: a decent team that can sometimes look like more than that when the goalie is hot and they’re getting some breaks.
OK, I feel better. Now onto this week’s ratings, which I assure you are all 100 percent accurate. (Unless they’re not, in which case, uh, it was still too early.)
Road to the Cup
The five teams that look like they’re headed towards a summer of keg stands and fountain pool parties.
One big story to watch in the final month: The Colorado Avalanche are going to have to make their playoff push without Gabriel Landeskog, who’s out four-to-six weeks with an upper-body injury. That timeline means he could be back early in the playoffs and there’s a slight chance he could return before the end of the season. But as Ryan Clark wonders, by that point will it still matter?
5. Washington Capitals (41-21-7, +22 true goals differential*) – Screw it, I’m back on board.
The Capitals showed up in our very first top five, then vanished for two months before reappearing in December. They hung around for five weeks, reaching as high as the two-spot on New Year’s Eve even as I wrote that the ranking “seems a little high.” Now, after two weeks of winning pushed them back into top spot in the Metro, they seem like as good a pick as any out of a crowded top-five field.
Or maybe not. You might prefer the Jets, who have a decent case even though they lost in Washington last night. But the Jets look to have a tougher road out of the Central than what the Caps will have in the Metro and that matters too. For the same reason, I can’t talk myself into Nashville. The post-Stone trade Golden Knights? They’ve looked great at times, but the top of the Pacific is very tough and they’re locked into third. The Islanders are still at least in the mix, but I’d rather know more about the Robin Lehner injury before I get them back near the top five. And the Leafs somehow haven’t shown up here in eight weeks even as they’re tied for second in the league in wins.
It’s a tough call. But this is about who’s going to win the Cup, and when in doubt, deferring to the defending champs doesn’t seem like a bad way to break the tie. For this week, at least.
4. Boston Bruins (42-18-9, +35) – Figuring out where to rank the Bruins is really getting interesting. On the one hand, you could make a very strong case that they’re the second-best team in the NHL. Last night’s loss aside, I’m not even sure you’d get much pushback from anyone. That means they should be ranked second, right?
But this isn’t a “best teams” list. It’s “most likely to win the Cup,” and that means that having the best team in the league in your division is bad news. Without going into the whole playoff format debate again, the Bruins’ path out of the Atlantic is brutal, and unlike the next two teams on the list, there’s no hope of improving it down the stretch.

Harry Winks' injury could spoil his Tottenham, World Cup dreams

Harry Winks' injury could spoil his Tottenham, World Cup dreams
Fears over Harry Kane’s World Cup participation may have proved premature but another Tottenham and England player is in real danger of missing out on the trip to Russia due to an ankle injury. Unfortunately, Harry Winks has become the forgotten man of both his club team and the international squad.
The 22-year-old was a rising force on the European and global stage in the autumn. Named the man of the match on his senior England debut against Lithuania in October, he promptly went on to star in both of Spurs’ Champions League duels with Real Madrid and a 4-1 victory over Liverpool.
The Tottenham prodigy offers many of the qualities England have lacked in central midfield: quick, incisive passing and the ability to maintain a high-tempo rhythm, combined with bursting forward runs. His biggest rival has appeared to be Jack Wilshere on the other side of north London, another midfielder who moves the ball quickly. However, the Arsenal man’s injury problems have been well-documented and he last played for his country at Euro 2016.
In terms of form, consistency and durability — the latter being a particularly important factor in an intense summer tournament — Winks appeared to have the edge at the start of November. It was little surprise when he was again called up to Gareth Southgate’s squad for that month’s friendlies against Germany and Brazil.
How quickly things change, though.
The ankle injury Winks suffered against Crystal Palace on Nov. 5 forced him to miss those England matches and he’s never really recovered his fitness or his rhythm on the field since. Having initially tried to play through the discomfort, he returned to the treatment room at the end of December and has only made three appearances since, all against lower-league opposition. He’s not even been able to get a place on the bench for the last three matches. Meanwhile Wilshere has just recalled to the England fold, underlining the change in fortunes for both players.
Pochettino said on Thursday that Winks’s situation is “a little bit sad,” which is an understatement.
There may just be time for the youngster to battle back in the final two months of the season and save his World Cup dream. He remains available for selection and since his three matches in 2018 have all come in the FA Cup, Saturday’s quarterfinal at Swansea could potentially give him an opportunity to start a comeback.
OLI SCARFF/AFP/Getty Images
However, his last two outings in the competition were poor. He didn’t look himself in either of the clashes against League One strugglers Rochdale and was substituted in the 62nd minute on both occasions. Given that Tottenham now only have the FA Cup and a top-four spot to fight for, Saturday’s trip to Swansea is therefore no time for charity. There may well be less rotation than in previous ties.
It was a similar story 12 months ago. Winks deservedly got the nod over Mousa Dembele in last year’s quarterfinal against Millwall but that was one of only four changes from the lineup that had started the previous league game.
Kieran Trippier, Son Heung-Min and Michel Vorm were the other three players to come into an imposing side that ultimately triumphed 6-0, at home against a League One side. This time, Spurs are visiting a Premier League rival in their last-eight tie so Pochettino has even more reason to respect the opposition.
Since the north Londoners have had almost a full week off, don’t play again until April 1 and have only this one chance of silverware remaining, fans would doubtless be hugely frustrated if Pochettino fielded a weakened team in South Wales and lost. So while Juan Foyth, Moussa Sissoko and Fernando Llorente have started every FA Cup tie so far, getting them the opportunities they have generally been denied in the league, this may be the moment when that run ends — Winks may find himself in the same category.
No. 2 goalkeeper Vorm might well be the sole survivor from the group of fringe players who have taken centre stage in the earlier rounds. That would be the latest in a succession of blows for Winks, and it would be hard to see when he would next get a chance to impress Southgate.
It would be a huge shame if a lack of playing opportunities at Spurs resulted in or contributed to his absence from England’s touring party. Given their fondness for the success of homegrown youngsters, Pochettino and Tottenham’s fans would share Winks’ disappointment — particularly those English supporters who recognise the impact the midfielder could potentially have for the Three Lions in Russia.
But the club’s goals must take priority over those of individuals. And given Winks’ latest displays, helping him towards a World Cup spot and securing silverware for Spurs may be two targets that Pochettino cannot reconcile in the coming weeks.

Your Tuesday Morning Roundup
So this is what it took for the Flyers to win? A disappointing Eagles loss on Sunday night and the Sixers to get beat by bad Phoenix Suns team at home? If you ask me, it wasn’t worth it.
Nontheless, the Flyers’ 10-game losing streak is no more after Philly defeated the Calgary Flames 5-2 on Monday night. Jakub Voracek stepped up with three assists to ensure the Flyers snap the streak.
Hamonic exited the game early after this tough hit:
Travis Hamonic is done for the game after this "hit" on Dale Weise. http://pic.twitter.com/JOATWlaeDd
— Chris Jastrzembski (@CFJastrzembski) December 5, 2017
Technically, the Flyers still haven’t won in the United States since Nov. 9, so they still have that going for them. Also, Hakstol has job security, regardless of how long this losing continues:
Hexy: Hak will coach the rest of season. And beyond.
— Sam Carchidi (@BroadStBull) December 5, 2017
The team faces the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday at 9:30pm.
The Roundup:
Back stateside, the Sixers were scorched by the Suns, 115-101. Devin Booker led Phoenix with 46 points on Monday night to help lead the now 9-16 Suns to a upset victory at the Wells Fargo Center.
J.J. Redick led Philly with 25 points, followed by Joel Embiid’s 22. The big man also had 12 rebounds in 34 minutes.
Highlights:
http://ift.tt/2jg41AI
The Sixers are back at it on Thursday against the Lakers at 8pm. That game is on TNT.
The talk of the town is still the Eagles as the Birds are nesting thousands of miles away in California this week before taking on the LA Rams in a game that means more than it did 48 hours ago.
The latest Crossing BroadCast dropped on Monday and the guys talked about the Seahawks game.
Kevin Kinkead’s shared his observations from the loss, including this one:
But listen, credit to Seattle for a great performance. Carson Wentz was pressured constantly and put off his game. Wilson did his thing and converted plays like the one above to move the sticks and keep the Birds’ offense off the field. It was frustrating to watch because every defensive win seemed to be followed by a backbreaker of a chunk play.
The Eagles fall to 10-2, which is where nobody had them at this point in the season, so let’s keep things in perspective. I’m fine with the “facing adversity” narrative. I think this kind of loss brings the team back down to Earth where they hit the reset button and hopefully finish strong down the stretch. Next week’s game in Los Angeles will tell us everything we need to know about this team.
After the loss, despite the birds still boasting a 10-2 record, it seems that most of the fanbase hit the panic button on the team and this season. I guess because it is something we all are used to doing? BWanksCB has more on that.
Instead of being 10-2 and feeling that dread, the Birds could maybe be 11-1 today if Doug Pederson challenged that forward lateral by Russell Wilson. Kyle breaks down this decision, or was it Doug’s indecisiveness, that may have cost the Eagles the game:
Though each case has its own qualifying reasons, Doug always seems to make the wrong decision here. I’m not going to nitpick punting on 4th and 1, or 4th and 2, but he was weirdly conservative last night in spots where he’s typically aggressive. I wonder if the competition had something to do with that.
As for the decision itself, you see situations like this all the time in football, where coaches don’t have all the angles needed but throw the flag anyway, because even the chance of reversing the play is worth the risk of a timeout. The best coaches have a feel for the moment. Thus far, Doug has shown that he doesn’t. And that has been and will remain my concern until he shows us otherwise.
The Dan Patrick Show crew broke it down, with demonstrations:
Dan Patrick Show Sports Science: Are you a lateralist or a forward passist? http://pic.twitter.com/NWTLOIbTFl
— Dan Patrick Show (@dpshow) December 4, 2017
According to Mike Pereira, it was an illegal forward pass:
Forward or backward is judged by where the ball is when it leaves the passers hand to where it first touched the ground or a player. Forget that Wilson tried to throw it backwards. It was tough to judge on the field by the officials but the Eagles could have challenged and won.
— Mike Pereira (@MikePereira) December 4, 2017
One last storyline was the officials. Pete Morelli is the known Eagles-hater, but should we add Tony Corrente to the list? The figures are intriguing.
With all of that being said, the Eagles are still sitting pretty. Currently hold the 2nd seed in the conference and are poised for the playoffs and a high seeding. However, they did lose complete control of their destiny because of that pesky fourth tiebreaker with the Vikings. It’s Case Keenum though, he can’t keep it going forever. Can he?
Things may seem shaky, but at least this isn’t the Giants. Fresh off getting ripped for ruining Eli Manning’s historic streak of consecutive starts (210), the team canned Ben McAdoo and its general manager. Steve Spagnuolo takes over as interim head coach. Oh, and Eli Manning will start this week. What a mess.
The Giants and Eagles clash in two weeks, but before that match-up the birds have the Rams on Sunday late afternoon. To prep, the team is at the home of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim:
A sneak peek of our practice home for the next few days. Thanks for the hospitality, @Angels! http://pic.twitter.com/GErjeuuOpg
— Philadelphia Eagles (@Eagles) December 4, 2017
I wonder how much the Eagles are paying the Angels for rent for this quick AirBNB deal.
Doug Pederson confirmed that Zach Ertz is in concussion protocol after suffering a head injury. Will be close to see if he can clear and play Sunday in Jake Elliot style.
Jenny Vrentas of the MMQB has a good story on the Birds following the loss and the slap in the face it was:
The Eagles are now 10-2, still tied with the Vikings for the best record in the conference and with everything in front of them. But as the dust settled on one of those signature Seahawks December wins Sunday night, and with the Eagles’ matchup with the 9-3 Rams looming next week, the takeaway is that the NFC is wide open. Guard Brandon Brooks called the loss a “wake-up call.”
A quick look at the College Football Playoff has many upset that Ohio State was left out. Simply put, they were treated like PSU was last year.
Also, Herm Edwards was introduced as the newest head coach of the Sun Devils, but does he know that:
Anyone want to tell him? http://pic.twitter.com/ugrpCVNBY6
— FootballScoop Staff (@FootballScoop) December 4, 2017
Monday Night Football wrapped up the week in the NFL as the Steelers and Bengal beat each other up for 60 minutes and occasionally ran football plays. Pittsburgh staged a comeback and won 23-20 on a game-winning field goal with time expiring.
The biggest storyline was Ryan Shazier being carted off the field with a spinal injury. It was not good:
Damn smh RT @MeanMugSports: Prayers up for Ryan Shazier http://pic.twitter.com/xTuRRssg2K
— Prime Time (@iEatTheMUFFIN) December 5, 2017
According to the team, he will not need surgery.
The NHL is expected to expand to Seattle.
LiAngelo Ball is leaving UCLA.
Gronk is suspended for one-game.
In non-sports news…
Budweiser is trying to put beer on Mars.

11 stats that perfectly explain Week 11 in the NFL
The Chiefs’ disappearing offense, more milestones for Tom Brady and Larry Fitzgerald, and a whole bunch of interceptions.
You ever have that dream where you’re back in school and have to take a math test and oh no, you don’t remember what sine means, let alone know how to use a calculator? You keep pressing the buttons, but nothing’s happening and time is running out and you’re going to FAIL.
Good news: you’re awake and this isn’t a test. Any number you’re about to see is a friendly number, we promise. Let them help tell you everything you need to know about what happened in the NFL in Week 11.
3
Dak Prescott played the worst game of his young career on Sunday night against the Eagles. His three interceptions were the most he’s ever thrown in a game and only the third time in his career that he’s had multiple picks in a game. His 30.4 QB rating was also a career low.
It’s hard for a quarterback to make much of an impact when he’s constantly got pass rushers in his face. He was 3-for-10 when pressured by the Eagles, and all three of his interceptions came while he was under duress.
Ezekiel Elliott’s absence isn’t helping the Cowboys, but missing left tackle Tyron Smith for the second week in a row has been absolutely devastating. Prescott was sacked four times by the Eagles. He’s been sacked 12 times in his last two games. Before this week, he’d never been sacked more than six times in any two-game stretch.
Dallas had better hope Smith is healthy for Thursday’s Thanksgiving game against the Chargers. Los Angeles’ dynamic duo of Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram have 19 sacks between them so far this season.
5
Nathan Peterman had five interceptions in a half. There have been a lot of quarterbacks to play since the 1970 merger, but Peterman is in a class of his own:
Nathan Peterman is the first player to throw 5 interceptions in the 1st half of a game since the 1970 merger (via @EliasSports). http://pic.twitter.com/SfpufPFRJi
— ESPN Stats & Info (@ESPNStatsInfo) November 20, 2017
So what does this mean for Peterman? Probably not much other than he’s going to have limited chances in the future, at best.
But it could also mean he could become ... a punter?
So the only guy since the merger who threw more interceptions than Nathan Peterman in his first NFL start became a punter. (via @NFLResearch) http://pic.twitter.com/9O0YR4jUgU
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) November 20, 2017
For what it’s worth, Tupa ended up becoming a good punter! Peterman’s performance was embarrassing to say the least, but all could be forgotten if he becomes a good punter.
Until, you know, the next quarterback who throws five or more interceptions in a half.
50
This past Sunday, Michael Thomas became the second player in the Super Bowl era to top 50 receiving yards in 20 of his first 25 career games.
Thomas is on a similar pace to match his 1,137 yards from his rookie season. Through 10 games he has 753 yards, and is averaging 75.3 yards per game. That’s just half a yard less than his average from last season.
Thomas is currently fourth in the NFL in receptions with 65. Overall, he’s been a great addition for the Saints offense that perhaps isn’t talked about enough considering the production he’s brought since day one.
0
The Browns are tied for 10th in the league right now for the total number of penalties with 70. But zero of those came in Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars. That’s the first time Cleveland has played a penalty-free game since Nov. 18, 1962.
But zero is also still the number of wins the Browns have this season. They weren’t able to get anything going on offense against the aggressive Jaguars defense. DeShone Kizer finished with 179 yards with one touchdown, two interceptions, and two fumbles within the last two minutes of the game.
After the game, the rookie sounded discouraged.
"It hurts,” Kizer said. "I'm trying to do whatever I can to string together some games and continue to prove my development to my teammates and to continue to earn the respect of them. This is the first game that I've come off of the field feeling as if I didn't prove that I developed in at least one area.”
Before Sunday’s game, the Browns were the only team in the league to not have allowed a 300-yard passer or a 100-yard rusher this season. Leonard Fournette rushed for precisely 100 yards. But the Browns held Blaine Gabbert to 125 passing yards, so they still have that going for them. And now they can boast a penalty-free game as well. The Browns just have to take joy where they can find it these days.
6
The Broncos moved on from offensive coordinator Mike McCoy after the team dropped its sixth loss in a row. This is the longest losing streak the Broncos have suffered through since 1990. They’ve averaged just 14.2 points per game over that skid.
The team’s reasoning behind firing McCoy is an unwieldy playbook, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. But there are two problems with that story. One, there’s not time left in this season to make many changes to the scheme, no matter how complex it is. Two, let’s not forget that the Broncos still have Brock Osweiler, Trevor Siemian, and Paxton Lynch to choose from at quarterback.
The Broncos have probably seen enough of Siemian and Osweiler over these past six weeks. Lynch is healthy now, and the Broncos may have to move forward with him.
19.6
What in the world has happened to the Chiefs? Kansas City started the year with an upset win over the Patriots on the road. They were at the top of everyone’s list of Super Bowl favorites.
On Sunday, this team lost to the Giants. The GIANTS. So what’s changed? Scoring.
In their 5 game winning streak to start the season.. The @Chiefs averaged 32.8 points per game. Over the last 5? 19.6
— trey wingo (@wingoz) November 20, 2017
That’s a significant drop off. Those 32.8 points would be the best in the league right now if Kansas City had been able to keep that momentum. Their average over the past five games would rank them at No. 22 right now, between the one-win 49ers and the struggling Raiders.
The Chiefs forgot how their offense worked Sunday, sputtering and failing against an embattled New York defense whose claim to fame in 2017 was inspiring prediction pools for Ben McAdoo’s eventual ousting. Kansas City, the team that rolled up 42 points in its season opener against the Patriots, managed only three field goals against the Giants. In the two games before facing Reid’s well-rested team, New York had allowed 82 total points.
The loss was the Chiefs’ fourth in their last five games. After sprinting out to the top of the AFC, Kansas City is now staring up at the opportunity to skip the first round of this year’s playoffs — and if can’t get this fixed, they could slip right out ofcontention altogether.
30
On Sunday, the Ravens did something no team has done since You were Time Magazine's Person of the Year: They shut out the Packers at Lambeau.
Yeah yeah, Aaron Rodgers is injured right now, and the Packers’ running back situation is a big shrug emoji, but that’s still impressive, especially since it’s the third time Baltimore has blanked an opponent this season.
Not many teams have done that in the last 30 years, but almost all of them have gone on to win the Super Bowl:
The @Ravens are the fifth team with three shutouts in a season, in the last 30 years. Three of the other four won the Super Bowl. http://pic.twitter.com/TZKc6Zl2bU
— ESPN Stats & Info (@ESPNStatsInfo) November 19, 2017
Does this mean the Ravens are headed to Minneapolis in February? Maybe! (But c’mon, probably not.)
37
The Minnesota Vikings held Todd Gurley to just 37 yards on Sunday in their 24-7 win at home. That might not be too surprising, when you consider they have yet to allow a 100-yard rusher through 10 games this season.
It also didn’t hurt to have Everson Griffen back after missing a game due to injury.
“We stopped the run,” Vikings nose tackle Linval Joseph told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. “At the end of the day, I feel like they are based off the bootleg and the run. If you stop the run, then you stop the bootleg. You pretty much have them bottled up.”
The Vikings are giving up the second-least amount of rushing yards per game at 77.7, second only to the Philadelphia Eagles. Stopping Gurley in his tracks was no surprise, but to the level at which they did it was impressive.
101
Dre Kirkpatrick — who was the recipient of a mean stiff arm by Le’Veon Bell earlier this season — had his chance at glory this past Sunday. Then, he blew it.
Kirkpatrick was by himself, and just randomly fumbled the ball on his way to the promised land.
So instead of a 101-yard interception return for a touchdown, he had a 100-yard interception return. It was the longest return in NFL history to not be a touchdown, so there’s something neat about it, at least.
The Bengals also later got their touchdown, so it was fine.
300
Tom Brady already holds a bunch of important records. Here’s a completely esoteric one.
The 40-year-old quarterback is now the first player in league history to have a 300-yard passing performance in three different countries. He’s had 79 in the United States, two in the United Kingdom, and now one in Mexico after shredding the Raiders for 339 yards and three touchdowns in a 33-7 victory.
He’s also the first player to have 3+ passing touchdowns in a single game in three different countries as well. So that’s two more accomplishments he can proudly line up next to those Super Bowl rings and MVP awards.
15,157
Just days after signing a one-year extension, Larry Fitzgerald caught nine passes for 91 yards and a touchdown, helped made Blaine Gabbert look surprisingly fine, and oh yeah, moved himself into fifth place on the NFL’s all-time receiving yards list. Fitzgerald isn’t done climbing the leaderboard, either. By the time the season is over, he’ll likely pass Isaac Bruce and Randy Moss for third place.
Give him another season, and he’ll kick Terrell Owens out of second place, too. But another season isn’t a guarantee, despite the recent contract extension. After the Cardinals’ loss to the Texans Sunday, Fitzgerald was Belichickian when asked questions about his future.
But there’s no denying the 34-year-old Fitzgerald can still get it:
Larry Fitzgerald is fifth in the NFL with 768 receiving yards. He's five years older than anyone else in the top-15.

Latest story from https://movietvtechgeeks.com/ben-roethlisberger-brings-steelers-alive-20-17-win-colts/
Ben Roethlisberger brings Steelers alive with 20-17 win against Colts
The Pittsburgh Steelers vs Indianapolis Colts games was far from pretty, but Ben Roethlisberger was able to bring his team from a 14-point deficit for the third time since last season which is an NFL record. And Ben Roethlisberger’s old game plan still works. Pittsburgh’s quarterback kept taking shots Sunday, and eventually, the Steelers’ playmakers broke through. Roethlisberger threw two second-half touchdown passes to erase a 14-point deficit and then hooked up with Antonio Brown on a 32-yard completion with 35 seconds left to set up Chris Boswell’s 33-yard field goal as time expired for a 20-17 victory at Indianapolis. “Let’s not take this thing to overtime,” Roethlisberger said when asked about his thoughts on the final drive. “I felt that’s what we were kind of leaning toward.” Roethlisberger made sure the Steelers (7-2) got out of town on time with a fourth straight win, padding their AFC North lead over Baltimore. Aside from the second-half comeback and frantic finish, things didn’t exactly go according to script. Brown, the league’s top receiver, only caught three passes for 47 yards. Bell, the league’s No. 3 rusher, finished with 80 yards on 26 carries, and Roethlisberger wound up 19 of 31 for 236 yards after being picked off on the second play of the game. And the Steelers never led until the final play. But when it mattered most, Roethlisberger played his best ball, methodically moving around and buying just enough time to pick apart the Colts’ young secondary. It was no match for the 35-year-old comeback master. “Big Ben is Big Ben, and he finds guys, and we’ve got him in second-and-long, and he finds a guy, and then he scrambles around and finds Antonio Brown,” Colts coach Chuck Pagano said. “That’s what he does.” For the Colts (3-7), it was just another frustrating in a series full of them. They’ve now lost five straight to the Steelers, this one perhaps being the flummoxing yet. They appeared to be in control after Jacoby Brissett threw a 60-yard touchdown pass to Donte Moncrief early in the second quarter and a 61-yard TD pass to Chester Rogers just our plays into the third quarter to make I 17-3. Roethlisberger came right back. The two-time Super Bowl champion hooked up with JuJu Smith-Schuster on a 7-yard TD pass to cut the lead to 17-9. And after Ryan Shazier picked off Brissett’s pass at the Colts’ 10-yard line, Roethlisberger scrambled long enough to find a wide open Vance McDonald for another 7-yard score early in the fourth. The 2-point conversion pass tied the score at 17 with 11:52 to go. He did it again on the final drive, too, completing two third-down passes before finding Brown on the final 70-yard drive for the winning kick. “You give up some big plays, you have a chance to lose football games,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. “We’re fortunate to win this game giving up those two long touchdown passes. So, we’ll get back in the lab and go back to work.” KEY NUMBERS Steelers: After managing only 100 yards in offense in the first half, Pittsburgh finished with 316. Smith-Schuster had five catches for 97 yards, and the Steelers finished with three sacks. Colts: Indy had four first downs and 99 yards of offense in the second half, 61 of those yards coming on the TD pass to Rogers. Brissett was 14 of 24 for 222 yards with two TDs and one interception. Frank Gore ran 17 times for 54 yards. KICKING WOES Boswell’s winning kick was the culmination of an otherwise rugged day. He had an extra point blocked that was nearly returned for two points by Colts safety Matthias Farley. Boswell also had a chance to give Pittsburgh the lead with a 37-yard field goal with 6:17 left but the ball hit the right goal post and bounced off. INJURIES Steelers: Cornerback Joe Haden broke his left leg and Tomlin did not have an update on how much time he might miss. Starting safety Mike Mitchell left on a cart with an injured right ankle and did not return. Linebacker James Harrison missed the game with a back injury. Colts: Brissett did not come to the podium after the game because he developed concussion-like symptoms following, the Colts said. The team said he had passed the concussion protocol in the third quarter. Cornerback Kenny Moore left in the third quarter with a concussion, and tight end Darrell Daniels and linebacker Darnell Sankey both left with hamstring injuries in the fourth quarter. None of the three returned. UP NEXT Steelers: Host Tennessee on Thursday night, their first home game since Oct. 22. Colts: Will have a much needed bye before hosing Tennessee on Nov. 26.

A brief history of Sidney Crosby’s crotch shots (Video)
Tumblr media
Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins had quite an eventful night against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday.
There was the one-handed backhanded goal that will be rerun in perpetuity, playing out like his own Quicksilver scene from an X-MEN sequel, rearranging the Sabres defense in super-speed before slicing through them like hapless dupes.
There was the fact that he lost two teeth on a high-stick, so he can finally drink Tim Horton’s like a real Canadian.
Oh, yeah: There was also the tainted love he gave Ryan O’Reilly that dropped the Sabres player to the ice in pain:
youtube
We assume this was called “dirty pool” because Crosby hit someone else’s ball first.
Quite a back(end) check, although probably not one for the Selke highlight reel. Or the Lady Byng, for that matter.
(Fun fact: Sidney Crosby was No. 35 in the Lady Byng voting last season, tied with John Tavares of the New York Islanders, a player so gentlemanly that he should be skating with a monocle.)
[Sign up for Yahoo Fantasy Baseball: Get in the game and join a league today]
This is neither the first nor the last time Sidney Crosby’s laid lumber to the undercarriage. First, because this is hockey, and hitting your opponent in vulnerable areas with your stick is something almost every player has done in their pro careers although they’ll swear up and down they’re the only guy in the league that doesn’t do that, like it’s diving or infidelity or something.
Second, because, well, Sidney Crosby has a storied history involving this type of thing.
Here’s a brief history of Sidney Crosby’s crotch shots:
Atlanta Thrashers (RIP), Dec. 2008
youtube
This was back in those days when Crosby, in his fourth season, was seen as an otherworldly talent with the propensity for whining. It was before the Stanley Cups and before the Vancouver Olympics. It was also before the Department of Player Safety, which meant Colin Campbell had his hand on the supplemental discipline gavel.
At the time of this incident,in which Crosby snuck behind defenseman Boris Valabik and punched him in the crotch a few times during a scrum, Thrashers coach John Anderson said that he intended to call Campbell for rules clarification after Crosby received just two minutes for roughing.
“Here’s the weird thing,” Anderson said at the time, “if he had punched him in the face, would he have gotten five minutes [for fighting]? A punch to the groin, is that two minutes?”
Apparently.
[Follow Puck Daddy on social media: Twitter | Instagram | Facebook | Tumblr]
Valabik, who stood over eight inches taller than Crosby by the way, reacted thusly: “I’ve never seen anything like that before. When I saw it on the video, I felt embarrassed for Crosby a little bit. If that’s the way he plays hockey, that’s all right. It was what it was. That’s what he did. I don’t really want to comment on that too much. It’s kind of embarrassing.”
Crosby didn’t receive anything additional from the League, unless you count a glowing press release touting him as the all-time biggest vote-getter in NHL All-Star Game history.
New York Rangers, May 2014
youtube
This was an incredibly intense series, as Crosby is still picking out splinters from Marc Staal’s stick from the back of his neck. But Sid got one shot in too, in Game 6.
After a faceoff, Dominic Moore tied up Crosby’s stick with his body. In an effort to free it, or to send a message for future attempts to restrict him, Sid uppercutted Moore’s undercarriage with his stick, sending the Rangers center to the ice.
This was also the sequence in which Henrik Lundqvist infamously gave Crosby a water-bottle bath.
“What did you see that I might have (done)?” Crosby asked a reporter after the game “When he tied me up at that faceoff? I took a shot or he took a shot? What do you mean by I took a shot?”
Gotta love him.
Buffalo Sabres, March 2017
Sidney Crosby ladies and gents. pic.twitter.com/JkvwvSo3TG
— Aivis Kalniņš (@A_Kalnins) March 21, 2017
We obviously covered this at the start of the post, so we’ll just let Sabres coach Dan Bylsma, who of course coached Crosby in Pittsburgh, have the last word.
Or not really say anything, which we guess was his point:
Here's what Bylsma had to say about ROR and Crosby in first period. The body language says it all #Sabres @WKBW pic.twitter.com/ZQMVqWXKam
— Matthew Bové (@Matt_Bove) March 22, 2017
Translation: Sid gonna Sid.
Now, please keep in mind that a history of Sidney Crosby’s crotch shots is incomplete unless one includes those times when it was Lil’ Sid getting targeted by opponents:
Ottawa Senators, April 2015
youtube
That was Eric Gryba of the Ottawa Senators, lifting his stick in front of his own goal to ward off any attacking Penguin that might have sniffed a rebound chance.
In the process, he nearly bisected Crosby, whom we assume would have simply reconnected his two halves like the T-1000.
Columbus Blue Jackets, November 2015
youtube
Fedor Tyutin tuned up Crosby with a spear to the how-do-you-do, enraging the Penguins captain in a sequence from Nov. 2015.
As is the case with these things, there were differing opinions on the matter.
“I saw him coming out o the corner of my eye, so my stick is out there to find him. He said I speared him. I didn’t spear him. My stick was between his legs, but I didn’t spear him,” said Tyutin, who totally speared him.
But sometimes these things do happen by accident…
Montreal Canadiens, January 2015
youtube
Wow, 2015 was quite the year for Sid’s nether region.
That’s Jiri Sekac, of the popular question “hey, whatever happened to Jiri Sekac?” After Crosby hit him, the Canadiens’ skate came off the ice and the heel caught Sid right in the store.
Very awkward scene, given that this wasn’t even scheduled to be Crosby’s bris.
Finally, sometimes Sidney Crosby’s crotch shots are … friendly fire.
Evgeni Malkin, April 14
Tumblr media
From the keen eyes of The Pensblog comes this GIF of Evgeni Malkin giving Crosby a little cup check before a fan appreciation ceremony.
Keep in mind that at this point in their respective careers, it was Crosby that was usually the assist man.
***
Well, there you go. A trip into the underworld of the crotches Sidney Crosby has hit, as well as Sidney Crosby’s crotch being hit.
It was a trip around the globes. Hope you packed a sack lunch. Cashew later.

Ramblings: Oshie, Luongo Injured; Smith Shines (Dec 5)
Ramblings: Oshie, Luongo Injured; Smith Shines, plus more…
I complete my trade with Steve by taking over the Tuesday Ramblings for him this week. The Monday schedule was a little lighter than what I’m used to with only four games, but there was some interesting news and film nonetheless.
*
Monday’s matchup between the Sharks and Capitals wasn’t one where many stood out boxscore-wise. Alex Ovechkin scored his league-leading 20th goal of the season and added an assist. The goal was the 578th of his career, passing Mark Recchi for 20th in league history in just over half the number of games that Recchi played. Following a rare season in which he had more assists (36) than goals (33), Ovie has tipped back to his goal-heavy ways (20 goals to just 8 assists).
This was an eventful game, though, as it will be known more for the dirty headshot that Joe Thornton delivered on T.J. Oshie during the second period, forcing the Capitals’ winger to leave the game. As expected, Oshie will be re-evaluated tomorrow for what I would think would be a concussion.
Joe Thornton should be suspended 40 games for this pic.twitter.com/ghomQGMcnL
— NHL Insider Dinger (@atf13atf) December 5, 2017
In the NHL, you’d have to kill or dismember someone to receive a 40-game suspension. Still, there’s the possibility of supplemental discipline for Thornton here, particularly since Thornton did not receive a penalty. Thornton was forced to answer the bell in the third period, taking one on that hard-to-miss beard from Tom Wilson.
Tom Wilson fights Joe Thornton pic.twitter.com/2m9K379Gwa
— Ian Oland (@ianoland) December 5, 2017
Believe it or not, those weren’t the only highlights worth showing in this game. Check out not one, but two potential goals getting waived off on the same sequence. The first goal to Brett Connolly eventually counted.
COUNT IT! #CapsSharks #ALLCAPS pic.twitter.com/f3Fd2tFVwj
— Washington Capitals (@Capitals) December 5, 2017
With Oshie gone and the game getting chippy afterward, Connolly received 6:39 of power-play time with the big guns. Should Oshie miss games, don’t be surprised if Connolly’s fantasy value receives a major boost with this added responsibility. As it stands, Connolly has scored goals in back-to-back games, although his season total (6 points in 19 games) and icetime (10:25 per game) haven’t been anything to get excited about to this point.
*
The Panthers/Islanders matchup also saw a prominent player leave with an injury. Roberto Luongo was helped off the ice early in the second period after making this save.
Luongo injury: pic.twitter.com/RdroiMslfJ
— Cats On The Prowl (@Cats0ntheprowl) December 5, 2017
James Reimer took over in net, allowing three goals on 17 shots before eventually taking the loss in the shootout. Although we don’t know how serious the injury actually is, Luongo could be out for a while based on the way this looked. Reimer should receive considerably more starts over the near future, but his season 3.64 goals-against average and .894 save percentage combined with the Panthers’ team 3.35 goals against per game may make you think twice about adding him.
So it’s not a great state of affairs for Florida, who have lost three games in a row. But it wasn’t all bad for Panthers that may be on your fantasy team. Vincent Trocheck and Keith Yandle each recorded three points in this game. Even with Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau having great seasons, Trocheck leads the Panthers in scoring with 27 points in 27 games.
Another shoutout to Nick Leddy, who with an assist is now second among defensemen in scoring with 22 points in 26 games. I mentioned him last week, but I’ll just say again that he’s been one of fantasy hockey’s greatest steals this season.
*
We all know about Matt Duchene’s struggles in Ottawa so far. Meanwhile, it’s been a different story in Nashville with the addition of Kyle Turris.
Since acquiring Kyle Turris in a three-team trade on Nov. 5, his line, along with Kevin Fiala and Craig Smith, has produced a combined total of 32 points (13g-19a) in 12 games, in which the #Preds are 9-2-1.
— Nashville Preds PR (@PredsPR) December 5, 2017
On Monday, this line combined for seven points in a 5-3 Nashville win over Boston. Craig Smith scored two goals himself in the first period and added an assist on Kevin Fiala’s goal in the second period. Smith now has 11 goals on the season, placing him second on the team. That’s probably not something you expected, considering that Smith scored just 12 all of last season. But Smith is a three-time 20-goal scorer and appears to be well on his way to a fourth 20-goal season. Oh, and he’s available in less than 20 percent of Yahoo leagues.
In case you’re wondering about Turris, he has 10 points (2g-8a) in 12 games since the trade to the Music City. In 11 games since the trade, Duchene has two points… total.
Ryan Johansen was absent for Monday’s game with an upper-body injury, so Peter Laviolette seemed to put his other lines in a blender:
21.69%  EV           ARVIDSSON,VIKTOR – BONINO,NICK – SISSONS,COLTON
15.81%  EV           ABERG,PONTUS – FORSBERG,FILIP – JARNKROK,CALLE
15.81%  EV           FIALA,KEVIN – SMITH,CRAIG – TURRIS,KYLE

Brian Elliott had a homecoming to remember in Calgary, stopping 43 of 45 shots to earn the struggling Flyers their first win in 11 games. During that dubious stretch, Elliott posted a 3.07 goals-against average and .906 save percentage. That could actually be worse when compared to some of the other numbers that we’ve seen from goalies this season.
Elliott is currently on pace to play just under 60 games this season. Elliott has not even played 50 games since the 2009-10 season, his second in the NHL. But you’d probably feel more positively about him if the Flyers were a better team.
With three assists in this game, Jakub Voracek is now tied for second with 26 assists. He didn’t miss a beat in spite of being recently moved off the top line with Claude Giroux and Sean Couturier. Here’s how the Flyers’ lines looked on Monday:
26.14%  EV           FILPPULA,VALTTERI – RAFFL,MICHAEL – VORACEK,JAKUB
20.75%  EV           COUTURIER,SEAN – GIROUX,CLAUDE – SIMMONDS,WAYNE
13.69%  EV           LAUGHTON,SCOTT – LEIER,TAYLOR – WEAL,JORDAN
13.28%  EV           KONECNY,TRAVIS – PATRICK,NOLAN – WEISE,DALE
In Voracek’s place was Wayne Simmonds, who scored a power-play goal on Monday. This appears to be an attempt to get Simmonds going, as he has scored just one other goal dating all the way back to October 21.

Remember when Matt Moulson was a must-own on the John Tavares line? Then he was traded to Buffalo in the Thomas Vanek deal and it all went downhill from there. On Monday, Moulson was placed on waivers after scoring no points in 14 games. All to make room for Scott Wilson, who was acquired from Detroit on Monday. Moulson is owed $5 million both this season and next, a contract that is an anchor for a Sabres’ team that is now residing in the NHL’s basement.

Finally, this news could pave the way for the NHL’s 32nd team. And if you’re hoping that it’s Quebec City, sorry. Gary Bettman probably has other plans.

If an NHL team does in fact come to Seattle, the Vancouver Canucks would finally have a true geographical rival. I don’t have actual numbers in front of me, but I believe the Canucks have the farthest distance to travel of any NHL team to the next-closest team.
Would hockey work in Seattle? Here are my thoughts included in a roundtable article published in 2014 at The Hockey Writers (back when I was writing more general hockey articles as well as fantasy hockey). Since that time, my thoughts haven’t changed much.
