I broke my smart phone some time ago, and while I was waiting (a month and a half) for my new one to show up through insurance, people needed to be able to reach me. So I went to Walmart and bought a burner Nokia flip phone.

It was actually really nice. Beyond the novelty of having a genuine flip phone for the first time, it was so unobtrusive.

I still had a laptop to access things like Tumblr and Discord. But once I left the house? Or stepped away from my desk? Fuckin quiet. Fantastic.

I figured out how to use the browser to read fic late at night, bc my tablet/laptop was too cumbersome and it worked well enough.

I'm tempted to get another one that's actually compatible with my sim card because that was the most peaceful 1½ months of my life. Fuck, I'd even go back to carrying an iPod (classic) in addition to my phone. I'm already someone who obsessively collects CDs and burns mixtapes. Maybe I'd see about ripping them to an iPod or mp3 player (or a discman, which I really wanted growing up) I'd commit to carrying two devices if it meant the kind of peace that that flip phone brought me.

I'd love to just have a week every month where people can only reach me by flip phone.
