Hey Wyoming, quick question; why the FUCK is your average speed limit like 75mph??? Goddamn do you all have a death wish? What the fuck is up with that?? My car just wants to shake apart at anything more that 65 and you expect me to go HOW FAST? Nuhuh not happening. I am from Colorado where we teach our kids to drive PROPERLY. We send them HURDLE at 60mph on our windy ass mountain roads that they can drive right off if they don't take the turn right!! That's more reasonable the 80 FUCKING MILES AN HOUR
#this has been a psa#i mean i guess i can kinda get it cause theres fucking nothing out here#its plains and gentle hills for miles around so what harm can really happen#but STILL#80mph??#no THANK YOU#ren speaks#Colorado#wyoming#roadtrip

Interesting automotive question posed by a friend. via /r/cars
Interesting automotive question posed by a friend.
A friend of mine recently asked me, "If speed limits top out at 55-85mph across America, why do they make cars go so fast?".
The best answer I could give him is that it takes significantly more power to get a car up to 60mph than it takes to keep it at 60mph (assuming a relatively level driving surface).
He then asked me why manufacturers don't just program a governor to keep the speed below 90mph or so.
That question stumped me. I know that in the 80s and 90s (not sure about today), many Japanese cars are limited to 120kph (~75mph) or so. That answers his question, but not in America.
Does anyone have a better answer?
