I seriously don't understand Michael.

He's trying to be all noble and heroic in wanting to take Sonny down--claiming this is about protecting his family.

But like--hey asshole, what about Sonny's family?

How is this fair to Dante and Kristina? Both of whom who can voice their issues with their dad, but still respect and love him. Or how about Sasha, who Sonny was there for when Brando died? You gonna take away another important thing away from Sasha who has been through enough? What about anyone who genuinely sees Sonny as a friend???

This isn't about "protecting the family or Port Charles," this is about Michael and Michael only.
