Licensed by Seven Seas
In this charming tale, a woman gets transported to a fantasy world and pursues her own quest: opening a book cafe! Tsukina is a single, thirty-something office worker whose favorite thing is curling up with a good book. When a god tells her that she must go to another world to become its magical savior, Tsukina isn’t interested. She has zero desire to go on some grand hero’s journey. So when she arrives in this strange new land, she decides to use her magical powers to create a cozy little book café instead. Her first customer is a handsome soldier who loves reading almost as much as she does. But when a fellow “savior” starts causing trouble, Tsukina might have to play the hero after all!

While I know this is an "older" manga, anyone else excited for all the new shoujo and josei that are releasing this year? 🤩🤩🤩
Cheers to a new year that I hope will be full of physical shoujo license announcements, shoujo titles we love, and just overall more manga!

61. The Savior's Book Café Story in Another World, Vol. 3 - licensed - I read the first two volumes a while back and honestly could not remember anything from them, which tells you something, but I do like the relaxed vibe of a isekaied woman running a café with a hot fiancé.

The Savior’s Book Café Story in Another World vol 1 by Kuouka Izumi & Oumiya
5/5
Tumblr media
This review is for fan entertainment, I'm not being paid.
Now in my opinion, this is one of the best manga series I have ever read. I love this plot very much, it’s another Isekai, but the main character takes this in a different direction. The story and the reaction of the main character make it a little more believable.
Ok Tsukina is a 30-year-old office worker who is picked by God to go to another world and help stop darkness (you know the same story with other isekai) however Tsukina doesn’t want to go, she thinks that she too old and she wouldn’t be much help.
Now before you ask, no she is not tearing herself down, she has made a life for herself, and she is comfortable that she doesn’t want to go to another world. She thinks that it is best for younger people who still have wanderlust. Tsukina is a bit more logical than most characters in her position.
God says she has to go and that he will grant wishes for whatever she wants (however the other chosen people before her were under the idea that they get one wish, but they didn’t ask and God didn’t say anything). Tsukina settles on her fate, but she is not going to announce it to the world she is a Savior.
Tsukina thinks hard about her wishes, as she wants to be able to live and survive in a new world, Tsukina then ask that if the denizens of the new world know about Saviors in which god tells her a mark will appear on her whenever she does magic. To avoid being the unwanted attention which will also include a lot of stress, Tsukina ask for the mark to be placed on the back of her head underneath her hair. (God tells her that will glow when she does magic in which Tsukina tells him that she will have to be careful)
On to Tsukina’s second wish, she wants a café/house on the outskirts of the kingdom she is transported to. God decides to give her necklace that when she squeezes the pendent a search bar of a shopping site will pop up and she can make anything that she wants, food included too. Tsukina tacks on if she happens to lose the necklace it will come back to her.
Tsukina asks God if she will be able to do magic right away, much to God’s surprise (Tsukina is the only one that ask this question) he explains that she has unlimited MP (Magic Points) but she doesn’t know how to use the magic. He then goes on that there are books in the world that she can learn from or she can find a teacher.
This is a character I like; she is very careful of what she wants, and is thinking several steps ahead, she doesn’t want the fame that comes with being such a powerful being, she wants to live a quiet life running a book café. Tsukina is also thinking ahead if she must step in to help where she is able too.
After a brief shopping spree getting her house and café up and ready for customers, she also gets magic books to start studying. Tsukina then gets her first customer, his name is Il. Il is very soft spoken and stoic, he loves reading, so the café becomes his oasis away from the castle. God is watching the first interaction that Tsukina has and then remembers the last savoir is also in the same kingdom and they have become a problem.
Back to Tsukina and Il, Il enjoys his time at the café reading books that he is unable to get his hands on, having his horse eating the pasture that Tsukina set up, and enjoying tea and sandwiches that are being served. Il is also very unnerved by the level of magic that is being used on this café but that feeling quickly subsides, and dread takes its place when he leaves for the day and heads back to the castle.
I don’t want to give too much way of this series, but I like this series and the characters, the author of the story has made Tsukina a more mature character that doesn’t want the adventuring lifestyle that most younger people want. She wants to be able to live comfortably and be able to read books. As you read the first book you can understand the growing worry that Tsukina has that her secret will be found out and she is worried about the relationships that she has made will be in danger because of past saviors and how they treated the citizens of the kingdom.
Tsukina and Il interactions with each other is too cute you can’t help but want them to get together.

Reading Recap: July
Summer seems to have skipped over Scotland this month. It has been cold and gloomy despite being in the middle of the season. The closest thing we have had to summer weather is gross, muggy days. Oh well, they say it is going to be a lot nicer next month. I doubt that, but a girl can dream.  On to the books! Bloodlust and Bonnets by Emily McGovern Lucy, a young debutante in 1820, is bored with…
