The Sapphire of Sinnos: 1-27-21
It was then he finally saw Matthew in the adjacent bed, tubes in his arms, hooked up to machines, his skin the color and transparency the color of chalk. White chalk. His skin looked cold and clammy with sweat, his dry lips were cracked and devoid of breath it seemed. His eyelids were slightly transparent, Matthew appeared to be very dead, but he wasn’t. His eyes opened, half-lidded, and nothing but a milky glowing white.
“How long has he been like that…?” Lewis rasped.
Flora sighed, “2 hours at this point. He called me when he started feeling off and by the time I got there, he was already in bed seizing.”

“How is he?”
The aged, tired voice of an exasperated Thunderbird broke through the chaos. Through the tightness in Lewis’ chest, which made the edges of his vision go fuzzy.
Poor Thunderbird, bless his immortal soul, looked incredibly worse for wear to put it nicely. He wore a stained grey hoodie that reeked of mushed carrots and apple, his white hair was oily and knotted as he hadn’t even attempted tie his hair into a bun properly. He even wore jeans that were too small and ripped at the knees.
Thunderbird blinked as his eyes met Lewis.
“Inky dear, whatever happened to you? You look melty.”
“That’s that I’m trying to figure out,” Flora glanced up at Thunderbird before looking him over briefly, “You look awfully pale, are you all right?”
Thunderbird sighed, letting out a wheeze and a small cough, his folded wings tucked into the fold in his back that hid them fell out involuntary. His usual shiny preened feathers dropping to the floor, all frayed and fuzzy instead of soft and regal as his wings were displayed.
“I apologize. It has been a long time since I’ve flown so fast in such short notice. I really need to condition my wings more. The baby was being fussy with lunchtime, and was up all night crying, I didn’t get a wink of rest to save my life, and I had to drop her off with the neighbor.”
“Did anyone see you?” Flora asked.
“At the rate I was flying? No, I’m certain I wasn’t spotted.”

The Light Force: The Sapphire of Sinnos: 9-23-20
He slipped off his backpack and he grabbed two cans of spray paint. Two black dripping inkmade wings formed from his shoulder blades that helped him soar upward.
The bright fresh paint covered the black paint thickly with ease, the smell of solvent filling the air as Lewis swirled through the air, twisting the colors into swirls and pools of earth and water. He dove down into his pack to grab a white spray can create crests and strings of clouds, sprinkling it along as he glided freely. Lewis grinned at the feeling, seeing the colors finally come to life, such wonderful and beautiful colors that were life itself.
For a moment, a simple moment, Lewis was no longer on Earth. He was there, in the colors, in the patterns.

Daniel nodded, setting down his cup and rushing out of the room. He returned after what felt like hours with a nice cool glass of ice water, approaching the queen-sized bed and attempted to hand the glass to Lewis, whose hand seemed to be melting like flowing candle wax.
Noting that Lewis couldn’t even grab the glass, Daniel moved to lift up Daniel’s head, ink dripping through his fingers as though he was touching melted ice cream and brought the water to Lewis’ lips.
Daniel offered a sweet smile, “I think you had too much fun last night and it finally caught up with you.”

Eventually, sleep did find him, but not until the break of dawn, And when Lewis did wake, he found himself nauseous, dripping with sweat, and beyond fatigued. Lifting his head was like lifting a five-ton boulder.
“Lewis? I’ve been calling you for a bit,” Daniel stood at the entrance of the guest bedroom, wearing a pair of flannel pajamas, a cup of coffee steaming in his hands, “We’re having waffles, do you want strawberry, blackberry, or pecan-“ he stiffened at the sight of Lewis wheezing in a pool of sweat turning into ink.
“You okay? Lord, you look like death.”
“I feel like death…” Lewis croaked, “Water, need water.”

“What’s goin’ on?”
“Lou’s layin’ low now. Not feelin’ good.”
“Is she contagious?”
“HE is just drained from last night, Andy.”
“Don’t worry honey, do you think aspirin would help?”
“Worth a shot.”
“If she gets me sick, I’m gonna be pissed.”
“If HE gets you sick, I’m gonna laugh ‘cause that’s what you get.”
“Enough. Andy, get the aspirin. Daniel, get Lewis a plate of bacon and potatoes. Grease could perk him up. I’ll make sure HE is comfy.”

Lewis growled, “Then you get stuck with those poky things!”
“They are not pokey things,” Flora muttered, “They are an extension of my body.”
“Well it’s a poky extension!”

Daniel was silent for a moment, sticking his hands in pockets as they approached the curve of the curb at the end of the street, “I really think you should move in with me Lou.”
Lewis shook his head, “Your mom can barely afford to feed you and Andy, plus you know Andy doesn’t like me.”
Daniel winced at this, “Andy just doesn’t know you.”
“He doesn’t like that…you know.”
“What, that’s you’re trans?”
Lewis grinded his teeth at this, “Yeah.”
“He just doesn’t know about trans stuff, but he could learn…it’s not hard after all.”

“Look, there are places I can go…” Lewis reasoned, moving Daniel’s hands away to see his now puffy tear-soaked face, “Plenty of places. Nothing bad is gonna happen.”
“You don’t know that Lewis,” Daniel sniffled, “I don’t wanna go unless you I know you will be okay. Unless I know you have food to eat that isn’t bad for you and a warm bed with no holes in it.”
“I’ll be okay Danny,” Lewis crooned gently, pressing his hand to his lover’s cheek in comfort, “Baby, I’m the Inkblot. I can handle myself. You got nothin’ to worry about. Don’t give up on this because of me. Danny, this is your dream. You’ve always wanted this, to go to a good school and play with the big shots and you can! There’s no guy who deserves it more than you, Daniel! I mean it, you’ve broken bones and lost out on so much so you could be the best. If anyone deserves this, it’s you.”

The Light Force: The Sapphire of Sinnos: 10-7-20
So, Lewis was used to staring at the dark ceiling above him for most of the night, watching the streetlights flicker upon the walls and the sharp white headlights of the passing cars with their loud angered engines. Curled up in embroidered rose patterned covers that were pulled up to his chin, smelling of sweet and soft Esperfruit and herby Sashbark oil.
But he was not used to the pit in his stomach feeling so heavy, so full of dread.
Every moment a light passed by the window, he flinched as his throat tightened in fear. His eyes scanned the walls, the white closet, the empty vanity, all of it. As if he were expecting to find something, someone, he feared.
Lewis was used to anxiety, the feeling of being watched and judged was something he knew well. But this feeling was so much sharper and colder than that. It felt as though those eyes, be it of fiction or otherwise, was hungering and poised to kill.

The Light Force: The Sapphire of Sinnos: 12-9-20
Flora examined his eyes and ears, the inside of his mouth, his reflexes, everything was done in under a minute. It was when vines of ivy, sharp and pointed at the tip sprouted from Flora’s wrists that made Lewis stiffen and jump back, curling into himself.
“No. No vine thingies.”
“Lewis, it’s the only way I can look at your blood to look for problems.”
“My blood is fine!”
“We don’t know that, there could be an internal issue…” Flora sighed, “Please don’t make me sedate you, I’m exhausted as it is.”
“You are not poking me with those things!” Lewis spat, “Ever!”
Daniel took Lewis’ hand, “Baby, you have two IV’s in you with needles, why is her vines any different?”
“Have you ever been stuck with Flora’s vines?”
“No.”
“If you have, you would know why I’d rather be dunked in acid then have those things stuck in me!”
Flora rolled her eyes, “You are so dramatic. It only stings because the juices nullify infections and cleans the affected area. It hurts more when you struggle.”
“Maybe if it didn’t hurt, I wouldn’t struggle-“
Before he knew it, a sharp pain, akin to a red hot ember licking his skin, streamed through his arm making him curl up and yelp in pain.
As soon as it appeared, the vine was gone with the pain, slinking back into Flora’s arm, coated with a drop of reddish black
Lewis snarled and clutched his hand, “I hate you.”
Flora shrugged, “You’re no better than a kid who refuses to eat their frosslo honestly.”
“That’s an understatement,” Daniel purred.

The Light Force: The Sapphire of Sinnos: 12-2-20
This wing was Flora’s baby, and she worked tirelessly whenever she wasn’t at her shop to keep the grey floor spic and span, her tools sterile, and the soft green walls warm and welcoming with flower arrangements of lavender and chamomile bundles to release a soothing scent to block out the sharp scent of needles and alcohol.
Lewis himself felt soothed and comforted in the wing the moment he stepped into the warmly lit room. Even the beeping of monitors didn’t bother him as he slunk into the room with Daniel trailing behind him carefully.
Flora was there tending one of the beds. She had tied her hair into a slick bun, wore a pair of blue latex gloves, her dirty apron was traded in for a summer green dress, and she wore a blue face mask as she was watching the vitals on the screen beside her.
A tendril of ivy slid from a pocket in her bare wrist as it checked the wrist of Matthew, who laid there in a pool of pale cold sweat, seemingly not conscious now but his heartrate and blood pressure was steady.

The Light Force: The Sapphire of Sinnos: 1-13-21
Flora seemed to close her eyes and suck in a breath “Your P levels look normal, your powers appear to be stable, but your body is in a state of fight or flight. It’s as if you’re having an anxiety attack.”
“Ya think so?” Lewis hissed.
“You’ve managed to get yourself under a wide amount of stress and anxiety,” Flora told him, seemingly glossing over the blatant sarcasm, “Lewis, I know school is coming to a close soon, but are finals stressing you?”
“No.”
“Is it the mission?”
“No.”
“What about the thing we talked about last night?” Daniel piped up, his eyes becoming glazed over with a mixture of panic and guilt.
Lewis shot up instantly, feeling cold and fearful, “No! No no! Danny baby, it’s nothing like that! I honestly don’t know what’s going on! On my life!”

The Light Force: The Sapphire of Sinnos: 9-30-20
Lewis felt lighter than air at this, soaring upon clouds and nothing could bring him down.
As it turned out, Daniel brought more than just a few chicken tenders. He brought a whole box of 32 pieces, several cups of sauce to choose from, the mentioned drinks coupled with Lemon Lightning, Charging Cherry, and Kiwi Calamity soda, tater tots, macaroni salad, and a brick of rocky road fudge.
Lewis didn’t complain, he loved all of these things and so did Daniel. It also must have been one of Daniel’s cheat days and on those days he went all out.
Daniel also brought a checkered black and red blanket to make sure they didn’t sit on the filthy floor. So, in essence, it really was a picnic.
Lewis and Daniel sat together on the blanket, snuggled close to each other as they ate the fresh hot chicken and crispy tater tots.

“I can’t say, I just…” a wave of dizziness took over his body as Lewis sank to the floor, “I need to get there.”
Daniel lifted him up, “I’ll drive you there. I know the way.”
Lewis winced, “I don’t think…Phoenix would want a civilian being present in things.”
“Well, you’re sick and if she wants you there, she’ll deal.”
“Phoenix doesn’t deal.”
“Well, she will.”
