A selection of mythological figures who could easily be popular on tumblr (and if they should)
Tezcatlipoca: Do you want a god who has a bunch of edgy traits but is also fundamentally benevolent and still suffering from colonization fueled demonization to this day that you can help end? Because that's Tezcatlipoca.
Should he be popular: Honestly I don't fully trust most people to get Tezcatlipoca and all his nuance, but I've done too much to promote him to really be against a boost in popularity. Don't talk about his appearances in some video games or anime to me, I Do Not Like almost all of them because of his depiction there.
Pazuzu: Demon king whose main job is protecting people from baby eating demons, slandered by a certain horror movie that depicted him as basically the exact thing he fights against, academic texts literally call Pazuzu an exorcist.
Should he be popular: Planning a dedicated post on why people should be into him so I hope he falls into the should category.
Xochiquetzal: Goddess for whom sex is legitimately a main part of her thing, has a problematic marriage with Tezcatlipoca, people would definitely be into her.
Should she be popular: I live in fear of the day certain mythological games realize Xochiquetzal exists for the reasons listed above, I've seen what happens to Aphrodite, so she should stay surprisingly unpopular.
Hervör: Viking warrior woman, the saga she's from (Saga of Hervör and Heidrek) openly says she likes evil and other characters approve of her being a fighter.
Should she be popular: Yes because she deserves it and so then people here will get into the Nordic saga style of story telling.
Stabbings Demon: A Maya lord of death who stabs people that don't pick up their trash.
Should he become popular: Look, it'd be very on brand for tumblr to randomly get into a guy called Stabbings Demon.
Kumarbi: Everything I know about him comes from just listening to other people talk about him, but that includes him fucking a literal cliff, which is something I think tumblr people would appreciate the humor of.
Should he be popular: Yes. Let's read the Kumarbi Cycle together and make him the newest tumblr sexyman. What could possibly go wrong?

Gizur challenges the Huns | The Battle of the Goths and Huns
by Peter Nicolai Arbo
"Neither the Huns nor their hornbows make us afraid!" The Geatish king Gizur challenges the invading Huns to a pitched battle on behalf of the Goths, from the Scandinavian epic poem Battle of the Goths and the Huns, which preserves place names from the Gothic rule in South-Eastern Europe.

"Yule is a tradition that dates back to the pre-Christian Germanic tribes of Northern Europe.  The Festival of Yule was a religious festival celebrated in various forms across our modern Christmas period by Germanic and Norse Pagans.
The Saga of Hervör and Heidrek tells us that on Yule Eve, oaths were sworn on the bristles of the ‘Yule Boar’ or ‘Sonargöltr’; which was then sacrificed and eaten as a tribute to the god Freyr, who rode a golden boar, Gullinbursti. It was hoped that some of the god’s power would be absorbed upon consumption. It is thought that this tradition was brought over to Britain by the Anglo-Saxons and that its remnants are echoed in the serving of our traditional Christmas Ham today." https://mmchristmas.wordpress.com/2017/12/18/the-yule-boar/
