The cast of The Rookie and The Rookie Feds being on the picket line supporting their writers makes my heart so happy. The Rookieverse writers did a TREMENDOUS job, especially this season and they deserve so much more.

gonna go to sleep and try to pretend i'm not mad about chenford and try to delude myself into thinking the writers and creatives aren't going to ruin them completely for me. i hope lucy is happy in the rookieverse and will be given everything she deserves, and that i can trust the tyrants to cease their rampage. dreaming that chenford will come back to me surrounded by butterflies and angels and the universe will return to normal.

i'd elaborate more but...you've probably seen an adequate number of takes from others, i'll save you the misery. i need a dramatic love confession and them together for the rest of the show, is all i've got.

Why the hell would you name a Horse girl Fang?

This took way longer than it should have, so sorry about that for anyone still waiting from my Waai Fu post.

This post will cover Fang and her team, Reserve OP Team A1

RESERVE OP TEAM A1

Fang- 芬 - Fēn -

HONSE! Jokes aside, Fang is the captain of Reserve Team A1 and a Vanguard. She joined RI along her friends Kroos and Beagle after leaving Columbia due to discrimination they face after they were infected while serving as part of a city garrison. If after seeing her name and character design, you would be forgiven for thinking she was a Lupo, or a wolf, rather than a Kuranta/Horse, but no this Uma Musume looking character runs around the battlefield shanking people with a spear rather than idol racing.

"Fragrance, Fragrant" I’m not quite sure why her name is Fang since the Mandarin pronunciation is nowhere near close to that, though the Cantonese pronunciation is a bit closer with fan1. Even odder is that Fang’s Chinese voicelines have her call herself “Fen”. If I had to guess, there is  a common compound word 芬芳 - fēnfāng which means something literally like “Fragrance Flower” which can mean fragrant or aromatic, but can also figuratively mean righteous and noble. This is an example of an aspect of Chinese where two similar words are used in a compound both to intensify their meaning but also to give context to which word your using when speaking. And no, the character is not pronounced like the English word Fen.

Beagle - 米格鲁 - Mǐ gé lǔ I don’t why this is a transliteration of Beagle, but it is.

The Rookiest Rookie in the Rookieverse, Beagle the Beagle, yeah this is gonna happen a bit, apparently it’s an in-universe thing that Perros use their family name, which is apparently their dog breed, as their codenames. Not much to say about her, she’s a tough cookie who gets straight A’s, who, despite her clumsiness and insecurities, meets everyday with the drive to improve herself.

As for her name, I don’t have much more to say, but usually beagles, the dog breed, are called 小獵犬, xiǎolièquǎn, or “Small” “To Hunt, To Pursue” “Dog”, or “Small Hunting Dog” with 犬  being a more formal/compound word character for dog.

Kroos - 克洛丝 - Kè luò sī

KO-KO-DA-YO, Kroos is a Cautus, or a bunny, with a penchant to shoot people in the face with a crossbow. Kroos also like to take things slowly, preferably with many naps on the way, to the point someone, probably Fang, put 10 alarm clocks around her bed at one point to wake her up. Beneath her chill demeanor however, is also the woman who dragged Fang and Beagle out of their former garrison while cursing their former comrades out and eventually brought them to RI. According to her artist, Kroos has green eyes, though they deleted their comment on Weibo so who knows?

In this case, Kroos’ Chinese name is just a transliteration of her English name, though you may be wondering why it uses luo instead of an r-sound, to which i challenge you, reader to to make a “ke” sound and then a “ruh” sound in two syllables. It’s just awkward and it sounds weird, and since there’s no “kruh” sound in Chinese the best alternative is to change the R to an L to better demarcate syllables.

Hibiscus - 芙蓉 - Fúróng the Chinese word for Hibiscus

Hibisus is Lava’s older twin and a medical intern at RI, she is her sister’s greatest nemesis and infamous for her uh, “healthy cooking” that terrify all of her teamates. It’s to the point that there’s even a furniture set themed around Hibiscus starting an eatery to get more operators to eat healthy. Hibiscus is also the first Sarkaz we’ve seen, though she is Victorian by birth rather than being a Kazdelan (Kazdelian? Kazdelen? Kazdelese?) Sarkaz.

Her name specifically is the Chinese term for either a lotus or hibiscus mutablis aka the cotton rose which was originally native to Southwest China and Taiwan. As for the etymology of her name, it is very similar to 敷荣, fūróng, “to blossom”, and as the characters themselves are only really used to refer themselves, they are likely very old characters.

She likes sneaking mushed tomato into her sister’s food.

Lava - 炎熔 - Yán róng - "Scorching/Power” and “Melt by Heat" or just “flaming”

Hibiscus’s younger twin, the Caster Lava. Chuuni as hell, but she doesn’t try to let it get to her. Ancient Forge was schlocky B-film she and Nian collaborated on if you want a taster of what she considers cool. She’s also the only member of the team without a skin as well as the first Alter Operator (Amiya doesn’t count she’s something different).

Some fun facts about her name, the Yan is the same Yan as the China-analogue which is called 大炎 in game, or “Great Yan”. Second fun fact, the 熔  is a homophone of the 蓉 in her sister’s name.

She also hates tomatoes.

he had dated her, Song Jihyo, since the age of 17, for 7 years

due to their different schedule, they started to drift apart and finally broke up

after the break up, gary kept on writing songs for her

his songs tell stories about his life

RL Jung In’s parts are often set to music by Rookieverse Wendy, Gary’s favorite female voice

as Body and Security guard he made pretty good money, so he owns a little music studio, it’s part of his own apartment

Gary not only writes songs, he also composes with the sources he is able to use in his studio and together with friends

he often asks his buddies to lend him their voice or ears

as in instruments Gary plays the piano on a high level and taught himself to play the guitar

every instrumental beyond that are recorded with the help of friends

“Gomin” is the last love song he wrote so far. This time it’s NOT for Jihyo.
