unpopular opinion (on this website at least) that I’m yet to change (feel free to gently change my mind tho - I swear I’m openminded I just have rejection sensitivity dysphoria if u hit too hard but also I grew up queer and neurodiverse in rural aus so I can kinda take it) but I really do (as of rn) feel like ChatGP/ai haters come from a place of immense privilege in 2024 (and personally I feel I do have that privilege where I could easily formulate an argument to hate it), obvs it’s not ethical in so many ways but neither are many things (don’t get me started) and sometimes you reach a need for survival in which you’ll utilise any tool presented to you at your convenience (not that “if you can’t beat em join em mentality” lmaohelp) and no I’m not talking about writing a uni essay or creating art (bc personally I’d never use it for either of those things) but why are people so mad about using it as a search engine or planner etc (u can enlighten me fr cos maybe I’m missing something) like if you don’t need it for that, don’t use it for that who cares (maybe u are better than everyone go on slayer) but we all mad about everything all the time. obviously it’s biased yada yada yada but you can manipulate it to be whatever kind of biased you want it to be, the same way you do with google! and if you approach it w the same critical view you do when u use other sites idk. plus if ur doing genuine research ur obvs not using ChatGPT (ur probs not using google either) ur probs using it to clarify ideas before then finding other more credible sites. Thorns (E), 18k, andreil // a post-canon fic where andrew and neil cope with doing a long distance relationship when u both have fatal levels of attachment issues lol. i spent a stupid long time on this fic for the word count, but there is love in every single word. i like this universe bc it's what i want for post-canon andreil. no one gave them the tools for this shit, but i love the idea that they will always figure out how to be together, even if its messy.

No Turning Back (E), 31k, andreil // this is perhaps recency bias, but i think this is the best thing ive ever written. i have a hard time summarizing it.. but it's an au where the conflict is almost entirely in andrew's head, which of course means he Causes Many Problems. i actually built this fic out from Andrew's fucked up internal journey, which was cool for me -- like, the main plot was developed to fit his character arc. i think that's probably not rocket science or unique but it was my first time doing it that way!

We Can Live Forever (T), 46k, andreil // i used to not like hs aus and then i wrote a huge one lol. its childhood best friends-lovers, and centered on this ridiculous lip sync serenade fundraiser ?? i made them all dance. a lot. sometimes its serious, but its mostly very silly. i wrote it w the intention of giving people that "read until 4am screaming into ur pillow bc cute aggression" feeling that so many fics have given me, and the feedback ive gotten implies ive succeeded, so im rly proud of that!!

Stoner AU (E), 21k, snowbaz // i'm cheating a bit because this is a series, but i almost consider this thing to be like a collection of sitcom episodes lol. it's a normal au, simon is a weed guy and baz buys from him and also falls in love w him. theres a lot of penny and shep and its all just very FUNNY imo. and they are all so fucking devoted to each other in kind of unhinged ways. i love rereading these fics.

I'll Come Back To You (T), 6.9k, andreil // ok, for 1: that's the exact word count. every time i fix typos on rereads i have to edit it to preserve the wc. but 2: this fic is Not Silly or Smutty LOL. it's probably my plottiest/most serious fic in some ways -- it deals w, like, multiple dimensions ?? and amnesia. and loneliness. i'm proud of the ambiguity, because i tend to be a writer that punches you in the face with The Theme. this one leaves a lot for the reader to figure out (to the dissatisfaction of some commenters lol), but i like that you have to think about it a bit.

flashes of intimacy (T), 7k // this is a series of fifteen <500 word fics that i add to pretty often, so it also makes sense that it's got a lot of readers! ive always been proud of my ability to write short, so it makes me happy that it's up here. it wld probs be #6 on my personal rating.

Inside Thoughts (T), 1.5k // andrew gets his wisdom teeth out and is a goober about it. one of my first aftg fics -- i think it's up here bc it's almost a year old. i am not passionate abt it tbh, i wrote it kind of as a joke one night while i was high lmfao

Do Not Disturb (T), 2k // another of my first aftg fics that i kind of dont care much about hahaha. it's another catnip situation, a post-canon moment where neil panics & unconsciously calls andrew, similarly to how he does in canon. and then they r soft <3

18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

i tried doing this with a mags fanfic i wrote bc i hc that d4 spoke spanish before the first war. there is literally only one sentence in spanish though bc i knew for a fact the phrasing was correct (at least in a casual, conversational setting) but i do think it's really cool when people write d4 characters having entire convos in spanish even though im not confident enough in my langauge skills to do it myself. also i just don't think d4 would know how to speak spanish in canon times, prob just affectionate terms like mija/o or mano or chula. like stuff that doesn't rlly affect how the capitol understands them. i get into this in the fic, but i think even by mags’ generation spanish would stop being a common language in d4. like i love the sentiment of her carrying a piece of that w her but i don’t think the capitol would let them get away with that and it’s also Not Easy to remember how to speak a language you only learned as a child and then never used for the rest of ur life, which is what i imagined happened with her + her gen. like. me and my siblings only know english bc the moment my dad moved here he was like “okay. English Time” and that stemmed from the pressure to assimilate can you imagine if the actual law got involved. anyway this answer got long but i have a lot of thoughts about this sorta stuff, esp in d4

icons are rly fun honestly! i think they have the ability to add a lot of personality to a scene, and sometimes can assist in establishing context or helping to emphasize tone. THAT all said, i don’t find them necessary at all—i’m primarily here to read threads, so icons or no icons, the writing is where my focus remains and my interests lie!! i don’t bypass blogs just bc they go icon-less, in fact its oftentimes the opposite? i love seeing how ppl can use their words alone to paint the entire picture. whichever way someone chooses to express their muse is valid tbh, do what feels comfortable!

#18. fanon interpretations

throw a stone and hit any of my muses, and it's apparent how over-the-top and carried away i get from canon lmao... pkmn is the perf franchise for it too; not only are the settings vast and the thematic concepts plentiful, but there is often a lot of negative space to fill on these muses’ canvases (this seems esp true for most canon characters in the earlier games). i aim for my interpretations to feel realistic (to some degree) so i do keep in mind the little canon i am given... but that’s still more for reference, and not something i strictly abide by. its thrilling how ppl have fun w their muses’ exploits and interpersonal relationships, i’m so here for how muns deviate from canon in order to conceptualize something entirely new.

jasmine, jasmine... i will never forget witnessing her for the first time ;; it was after school, while watching my friend nick play gold before a crowd of like 12 of us (he was that kid that always had new games right when they came out lol his family had it made like that). he was just reaching the jasmine gym battle by the time i walked up. as you can imagine, being an elementary schooler i was not using the internet as it was back then much at all, so leaks etc were not accessible to me (what few leaks existed at the time, that is); same was true for p much everyone else in my grade, so none of us had any idea about the slayage we were in for. we all saw the two magnemite and kinda brushed them off like “lmao that’s cute”, the disappointment was kinda real ngl 💀 but that disappointment didn’t last long whatsoever, bc the second she sent steelix out... the collective gasps in that lunchroom, lemme tell you! it was quite possibly the greatest thing any of us had ever seen in our lives up to that point, so serious when i say lives were changed that day ;;

so then when i finally received the game a couple months later, i was so excited to get to her gym and battle her for myself. i fell more in love going thru the amphy plotline, and the rest was history as they’d say. she was (and still is) a v overlooked character, but writing her is tons of fun c: (as is seeing her get some exposure from pokemas!) srry this was long-winded as HELL-

for the pkmn fandom, my first ever muse was (surprise) misty! this was back on lj, in a community that prob died out in 06 lmao. she was a lot of fun to explore, and became the perf gateway muse before i decided to try exploring diff personalities within the pkmn universe. ive written her since several times, and she’s grown into a more developed muse of mine following that first incarnation for sure. always will have a soft spot in my heart for miss kasumi ♡

Anderson enters the bullpen with the express purpose of introducing the new intern to everyone. She shakes the hands of Prentiss, JJ, and Rossi; Penelope hugs her; and Morgan places a kiss onto her hand, followed by a flirtatious comment and wink.

Spencer is well aware that Anderson and the new intern have made their way over to Spencer’s desk, where he shifts nervously in his seat.

“This is (Y/N). She’s in her second year of her Ph.D. at Georgetown studying Philosophy. I bet you’ll have lots to talk about.” And with the clasp of his hands, Anderson leaves the pair to get aquatinted.

He can barely make eye contact with her. Her smile is so radiant, her hair rests perfectly on her shoulders, and she stands with such authority and confidence that it makes him sweat. Her gaze towers over him as he sits in his seat.

“Hi, Dr. Reid! I’m (Y/N)— huge fan of your academic work and whatnot.” She doesn’t reach to shake his hand, relieving some of his anxieties. Though, it means someone’s warned her about his weird quirks, which makes him wonder what else they mentioned.

“R-really?” He stammers with uncertainty.

(Y/N) smiled wider and nods, “Of course! You’re a big inspiration. I feel... comforted knowing that there’s a need for the academics in the FBI. I figured my Philosophy degrees would be useless.”

“D-Doctor of P-Philosophy in Philosop-phy. T-that’s funny.” Spencer can’t control the stutter that’s developed within the last few moments. It makes his sorry excuse of a joke sound even worse.

He can’t think of anything else to say, too entranced by her beautiful appearance and energy. She doesn’t seem to mind the awkward atmosphere that surrounds them. In fact, it almost invigorates her. He’s sure she has no problem with controlling the course of a conversation.

(Y/N) laughs, almost too loudly. “I know right. I love it though. I wouldn’t change my degree in nonsense for anything else.”

Spencer shrugs, “I-I d-don’t think i-it’s nonsense.” He wants to scream with how ridiculously nervous he sounds, but continues anyway. “Philosophy is t-the foundat-tion of almost ev-very study. The w-world’s g-greatest m-mathematicians a-and scientist c-can be r-regarded as philosophers— y-you prob-bably knew all of t-that thought.”

(Y/N) leans herself against his desk, crossing her arms while sporting an unusually pointed gaze. “How old are you, Spencer?”

“T-twenty s-seven.” He has no idea where she’s headed.

She raises a brow, “You look a lot younger.”

“I-I know...”

“I’m twenty-five.” (Y/N) states. “And I think you’re cute, and smart, and a little nervous, but I’m into that.” Spencer’s never had someone come onto him this hard... let alone ever. He doesn’t know how to respond without sounding overeager, so he stays silent. “I know it’s probably a conflict of interest, but would you like to go out with me?”

He nods fervently, “Y-yes! Uh— I m-mean y-yea, please.”

“Okay.” She grins, patting his shoulder. “I’ll talk to you later.”

“O-okay!” Spencer’s beaming at this point, it’s a surprise no one else in the bullpen has noticed.

She walks away, perfectly heel-to-toe, one foot in front of the other— the way that powerful women walk. It gets to him. He really likes her despite only knowing her for ten minutes.

Spencer’s content with watching her walk away, but his heart stops when she turns around, flashing him a smile and a wink. It’s a reminder that this is all real, and that she hasn’t forgotten him yet.

plots come to me pretty easily (i have like 20+ wips atm 💀) like i never have to focus Too much on the plot aspect if that makes sense ?? i’ll start w nothing but a basic outline or scenario/dialogue, build the plot as i go and somehow end up w a fic having several thousand words!! dialogue is also pretty ez for me LOL i never have to think ab it beforehand i just go w the flow 😎 once i start writing inner thought i Cannot stop it’s a problem 🫡 but HEY it’s not as bad as descriptions 😵‍💫 i just cannot write those for the life of me so my fics r mostly dialogue based. i’d like to try world building tho!!! :”)

1: Is writing cathartic or stressful for you?

yes.

or well, yes and / yes but...?

like, writing can def be cathartic for me (both as a place to purge frustrations say with source material, but also in the feeling of finally offloading a story that's been hanging around in my head!), but i don't think it's ONLY cathartic, like it's also entertaining and enchanting and educational and challenging and frustrating etc etc etc.

i def think there are aspects of writing which are ~stressful to me (although i'd probs term as challenging and/or frustrating rather than stressful per se, but words are v imperfect vehicles so w/e). particularly around: snatching the time to write how i want to write, the struggle to express things with puny lil words ugh, the idea of sending something out into the world... BUT! generally i find that frustration points in the planning/writing/editing/publishing/whatever process are crackable, bc it's a process of working out what exactly the frustration is caused by, & once youve identified a problem, it's a lot easier to solve it!!! (or at least to acknowledge it as something to address better in the future.) so i think while writing CAN be a source of ~stress that's normally not a negative thing in itself bc it's presenting opps to grow n learn n improve n Understand n process-trust too

i write fanfiction to avoid having to, lol. you get all these characters for free in canon!!!! it's great!!!

well ok, i have written a few OCs i guess - mer in yourself and others and jamie in dirty game spring to mind (and rach in filing?!). i guess the ~development of them as chars was kind of... a trade-off btwn plot purpose & characterisation? like they def have specific plot purposes but i didnt want them to feel wooden, but also they're not pov chars so the info conveyed is going to be necessarily limited and i spose i think abt it similarly to say scene setting -- what info does the audience NEED, what is lost if additional info isnt specified / does it matter if the audience is filling in gaps abt this, how sparse is too sparse, what could the pov char(s) reasonably be expected to know/notice & how would they interpret it, does something seem needlessly cliché & if so how can that be avoided....?

the one(?) time i did deep OC development was for AHWSBNB and that was fairly accidental lol. originally i had C + L explaining like loads abt their life to each other and i kept cutting and cutting and cutting and cutting that out bc i. ppl monologuing details abt their lives feels a bit unnatural anyway to me ii. i was like this feels rather self-indulgent, idk that anyone wants to read abt the backstories of these randos wot iii. it felt kinda like i was explaining this to me? so it didnt really need to be directly on the page, but it could inform what was

i def think that was a useful exercise, but idk if i’d bother doing it for minor OCs? like they were kinda the main characters of that story, so i think that was necessary, but i  reckon it’d be overkill for randos who wander in to serve a drink or take kenny to a sleepover for the duration of the story or w/e.

i like the juxtaposition of young’s obviously manipulative language with taesung’s innocent language that also sounds suspiciously the same. obviously you know taesung has positive intentions and isn’t a controlling freak like young but it’s such an interesting way to depict the aftermath of an abusive relationship and the difference in intentions despite the same words even though in retrospect that probably wasn’t what the author was trying to do. unless... ?

sunny seo as a character!! on the surface he definitely seems to fall under the standard BL uke tropes of being clumsy and looking pretty and stuck in a love triangle as the shared obj of affection but from the very beginning you already know he’s not a pushover but he just seems like that bc he doesn’t really have or express strong opinions. a lot of BLs tend to have the shared obj of affection be like oh nooo i can’t pick bw the 2 of them... but i mean from the start sunny doesn’t want to be w young and his fear of backlash and change is what motivates his secret-keeping from taesung... also throughout the story they imply that he’s a good match for taesung who canonly likes action stuff by being someone who actually likes high-energy activities/vibes. tl;dr sunny is generally a good character who also has a lot of foreshadowing done for him to reveal aspects of his personality that contribute to the story

anyway onto my thoughts that i had during this specific readthrough

jaeyoon. anyone who read my prev review for this manhwa knows that i had beef w how they used him during the conclusion to young and sunny’s relationship. i now realize that maybe they DID actually give him a face reveal during his wedding when young and sunny split off to chat with a friend each and the friend who spoke to sunny was actually jaeyoon himself... BUT YOU GOTTA FUCKING SAY THAT!! i suspected they were the same guy bc of the hair color and them always hiding jaeyoon’s face until that “random” moment where they give this character who looks like him a face but like i was never sure... no offense to the author or anything but i think you have to put in-text that it’s jaeyoon and not assume readers will know based on your art that it’s him... there are too many side characters who show up so it’s not like we’ve ONLY seen taesung/sunny/young so far so now this 4th person who shows up has to be jaeyoon... i mean maybe other readers ID-ed it as him w no issue esp since he shows up being like ‘dude...’ when that other friend is like ‘well jaeyoon was in rehab and stuff’ but i personally think it should’ve been mentioned in-text esp since that face reveal wasn’t nearly dramatic enough to 100% capture readers’ attentions.

otherwise i think the fact that jaeyoon and taesung are similar is a great plot point. jaeyoon was clearly the only friend in that group who saw young and sunny’s relationship accurately so i’m glad sunny had at least one GOOD friend then. jaeyoon is implied to be someone who takes care of others similar to taesung (even if it’s only sunny he dotes over the most) too. other than young’s general possessiveness of sunny, them being similar also explains why young saw jaeyoon as such a threat. but yeah unfortunately i still don’t think it was handled as well as it could have been.

young’s explanation for his behavior towards sunny... i hesitate to say it was the standard “villain redemption” but tbf i think it was a good explanation for his actions even if it felt a little too clean of a conclusion (young letting go of sunny so easily and also apparently realizing and accepting how damaging he was to him). i say it’s partially redeeming bc it shows that young was kind of trapped in such a specific and damaging way of thinking abt life that it affected how he treated sunny but it’s also not really redeeming him bc like. be normal man lol you don’t have to be like that to others.

separate but related note but young’s mindgaming of taesung... when he was like oh everything abt sunny seo you like is bc of me... like DAMN that’s evil and good (writing-wise). although the thing is that young and sunny also haven’t interacted apparently for 5 years so i mean you do have to realize that by the time taesung reunites w him, sunny has developed enough of an individual personality so it’s not ALL young’s shit. 

in my last review i said i felt like i wanted more of young and sunny’s history... tbh i think they gave us enough actually. all we really need to know is that they’ve known each other for a very long time and that young manipulated sunny enough during an impressionable time (young age, college. ppl know how college can be lol) that sunny felt that young was the only one for him. i was actually surprised jaeyoon’s story/details came up so quick in the story (i think it showed up in the 1st half of the manhwa) but i think it was a good point bc the story had to move on to the middle/2nd half of sunny and taesung trying to get their relationship to work. past me was also apparently looking for this scene in the bar apparently where young explains his “reasons” to taesung lol

not really much to say this time abt the hosung x young endgame. still don’t think they should’ve done it or had hosung have unrequited feelings but whatever i guess. tbh i didn’t really realize/connect until this time around that hosung actually was in freelancing art/publishing which was why taesung had him look at sunny’s work lol... i think last time that part in the epilogue hadn’t been translated yet so i just didn’t have the room to make the connection maybs

the epilogue ending... so i actually never read the epilogue ending or at least its eng translation, and i was like hell yea at the full circle shit w sunny being like ‘oh the cherry blossom petals are falling just like when i first met taesung in the infirmary’ but then the ch kept going w taesung and sunny on the beach... idk i think ending it literally at sunny being like ‘w you i feel alive’ was such an abrupt ending... like maybe if they added another panel of them smiling at each other it could’ve been fine but if the author was running low on time i honestly think they could’ve ended it at the scene of sunny accepting his contest award

also when sunny was like ‘yeah lol all my classmates at the children’s book program also get sick all the time’.... i was like bruh this author is prob speaking from actual experience lmao

the other thing abt the ending that was a little random was the quick aside abt taesung’s mom being against their relationship... i mean it was a reference to the mom wanting taesung to get married in the main story but then they dropped it and then suddenly brought it back up again... randomly adding that taesung had a sister who was his contact w their mom... like i get it, it wraps up the loose end of his mom but wow i was uh ok random ch abt potential family conflicts. also where are sunny’s parents lol but that would’ve been too much to get into too regardless of homophobia or not lol

overall it’s still a pretty solid manhwa. stuff proceeds at a good pace and the conflicts/misunderstandings make sense. i said before it’s kinda like a love triangle but it’s really not which works w me bc i don’t like love triangles that much (they stress me out lol); it’s also good bc young is clearly toxic for sunny and it’s good that sunny knows that rather than sunny being like “oh i know he’s bad but also... hmm maybe i can overlook it”. the manhwa’s not perfect -- i still get the sense the writing could be better even if i can’t really enunciate why -- but enough details are tied together that there’s nothing major i have to extrapolate bw (like i can overlook the jooyeon mishap even though it legit threw me off the 1st time i read through). also yes i know the manhwa is based off of a game w characters essentially already established but my understanding is that the author/artist essentially had to write up a lot of the actual story themselves even if they had a general plotline provided to follow

also the final author’s note abt the author personally preferring fucked up stories... when i started rereading i was like wait isn’t this the same artist for that one manhwa where the characters look like the k!lling st@lking? mains and even if i didn’t remember i would’ve realized w that author’s note lol. i think fortunately for them that sunny isn’t an entirely “pure” character so they had enough room to make him a little more twisted.

I want the focus to be on Bilals life but if her mystery sadness is connected to her ex, that works with her being LI (both of them are still inexperienced tbh unless you count 1 short ex = experienced; they'll probs awkwardly explore dating together), and if its her fam, they'll bond over that. What would you consider ordinary? 👀

oh yeah that's a good question i should've probably phrased it better! by ordinary here i meant that it would've been nice to see smth so common as a first ever relationship (at least for jo) like when they get together that would be the "obstacle" they have to tackle by communicating & exploring their feelings

jo being sad abt her ex or having trouble w family ofc wouldn't be too outlandish or dramatic or anything & u have good points abt it fitting bilal's storyline as well! so that's not out of the ordinary as a concept but i was thinking how they always bring in these Issues & Struggles™️ for the LIs even tho the main character already has plenty to go around n i wish we could have an LI who's actually in a good place bc w a show like skam u only have 10 weeks to go through everything n u can't do time jumps etc so to me personally it's getting a bit tiring to see how these not-main-characters have problems that would be worth exploring in an entire season (tho smth like being upset over an ex ofc wouldn't require 10 weeks to go through) it's not always bad but it's getting repetitive imo

i guess for me it boils down to the fact that we've known jo for 2 seasons now even longer than bilal n even tho we've gotten Some information abt her family & life outside of lamifex there's rly never been much indication of her going through Rough Times. AND that alone ofc isn't bad like ofc the side characters should also have a life n it would be boring if we never knew anything abt their personal struggles just bc they're side characters n for example the ex thing couldn't have come up before s8 anyway but the fact that this mysterious side of jo is brought up Now n never before kinda comes off as them wanting the LI to have development other than the relationship. which obviously is great bc they should be more than just an LI n not just exist there (cough s6 maya cough) but it doesn't seem like this is smth they felt the need to write bc they care abt Jo specifically. it's just that she's the LI n therefore she needs Plot.

n that's kinda what my issue is n what i was thinking w the "ordinary" part like jo never having dated before + bilal apparently being a casanova smfjd it'd be an interesting/easy/naturally written conflict that would develop jo's character (learning to trust, being vulnerable which she almost never is, earnestly talking abt her feelings instead of just making jokes etc) without having to come up w some family drama for no reason. also it would've served as continuity from s7 if they had brought up her inexperience then n it had been "resolved" in s8

but that's rly just my opinion like if there's gonna be smth super dramatic happening in jo's life i'll be annoyed but if it's just her ex or smth minor i'm not gonna claim it's bad writing or anything! i just personally find it irritating that whatever jo's going through is treated as this sort of mystery/smth to anticipate when tbh i couldn't care less no offense to jo at all it's just that we're first watching bilal n his brother become homeless children n suddenly we're like hmm why is jo crying tune in next week to find out skfjslfj so by ordinary i mean that sometimes if the li has go have smth noteworthy going on in their life it'd just be smth they come forth with so we could get to the part where it actually develops the characters. now it's like. even if it IS smth as mundane as her being sad abt her ex they're still turning it into some secret we have to find out along the way which to Me is unnecessary but that's more of a personal stance (also probably isn't As much of an issue for ppl not following in real time)

also yeah u have a good point abt them both being inexperienced they're still teens after all just bc that one girl is pining after bilal doesn't mean he's like actually knowledgeable abt serious dating or anything so it's not like we won't see any normal awkward teenage romance! i just wish that theme could've been more central since so many ppl were happy abt jo representing them as a teenager who doesn't have Any dating experience despite most of her peers being in relationships

i’ve been meaning to write about phoenix&apollo rs in aa5/6

but i guess first .. i need to go in what they did to phoenix in aa5-6 and what it meant lol - they frame him as this legendary attorney which like ok he IS but with that you have the judge acting as if he were still a rookie And his character acting as if it were still in aa1, his speech in aa5 against apollo abt trusting in your clients no matter that is Ridiculous considering everything that has happened to him like do we need a reminder of matt engarde? of dahlia? OF ZAK GRAMARYE? of everything that made him lose his badge? using ot is enough honestly because part of his development WAS realizing that believing in your client is just a mean to find out the truth and the TRUTH is the main thing but then in aa5 you have him… giving advice to athena&apollo abt believing in the clients & even belittling apollo for being suspicious when he has reasons for it lmao this retcon of phoenix that makes no sense also throws the entire premise of ace attorney in the trashcan you have phoenix acting oblivious, naive, w a saviour complex and completely selfabsorved (aasking apollo why is he making the case more difficult as if apollo’s best friend hasn’t died? lol)

in aa6 they keep this up with the selfabsoverment (phoenix asking a dude that has KILLED HIMSELF bc of the harsh law Why didn’t he simply go to phoenix like ? ?? ? ?? ?ok) and w phoenix emphasizing on the Believe in Your Clients until his aa2 ‘development’ happens in their last case which is EXACTLY like 2-4 case with maya being kidnapped and being used as hostage by his own client…. there’s no NEED to do any of that since we have ALREADY seen it happen before this is all what he has gone through before and it’s just RIDICULOUS - 

but ANYWAY the point is: they wrote him forgetting everything that has happened to him beforehand and completely nulled his flaws as if he could do no wrong since he is a 1) legendary attorney 2) saviour. now. we add that up with his relationship/dynamic with apollo. in 4-1, when they first met we have apollo idolizing phoenix. we find out he has looked up to phoenix and it’s prob not farfetched to say he was part of the reason apollo became a lawyer as well. so. we have that and then his conceptions/the image he had of phoenix being destroyed one by one as the trial goes - the first time he crossexamines phoenix, he keeps talking about how it’s impossible for phoenix to lie (especially UNDER OATH) it’s not possible for the Grand Phoenix Wright to do something wrong and then, well, you press him and you see phoenix being secretive and more cryptic not wanting to give information at the moment and saying he has not touched the bottle when they, actually, have his prints on it (it does not come to play the reason behind all that it was v wellplanned by phoenix+kristoph was the one to exchange the bottles) because its MAINPOINT is to deconstruct this image of phoenix we have and it ends with phoenix giving apollo the forged evidence as the breakpoint - and then apollo punches him.

so in aa4, their entire dynamic is not the best. we have apollo not trusting him+phoenix being cryptic and using him for his schemes - and even though he is called apollo’s mentor that is not…. what he is exactly? we barely see him until 4-4 where you learn everything abt what happened to him but that’s for the JURORS so apollo is still….. not involved really so, by the end, we have the acknowledge of phoenix knowing since the beginning that apollo is related to trucy and keeping it secret from both of them and using the kid to go against his ex-boss who killed his halfsibling’s dad (and gets his prosecutor friend to go against his own brother as well). tldr: their dynamic is MESSY, they don’t trust each other that much (by the end it has gotten better &even tho apollo has his issues w phoenix he still…… goes after him for validation the scene of ‘did you trust/believe me?’ w phoenix answering ‘not really’ is Smth) &it’s estranged w so many layers on it BUT, as a counterpoint, and like i mentioned earlier it does feel better by the end? and hopeful? with the postcreds we get w phoenix where he says it’s apollo time now so it feels like there’s room for growth between them AND phoenix to learn how to be a good mentor & a reconciliation between the two as bad as the reaction that apollo will have once he finds out that phoenix knew from the beginning about him&trucy lol 

HAVING SAID ALL THAT, we get to the Point of this post: phoenix & apollo in aa5/6. so. we have all that that happened in aa4 and what do they do? just like what they did to phoenix’s entire personality&flaws? it’s forgotten. apollo goes back to idolizing phoenix as if 4-1 had never happened before, with him going after phoenix for validation & simply looking up to him the Most when their dynamic&relationship were SO complex before and this ends up not becoming only a disservice to both but also uncomfortable. 

phoenix acting like he did nothing bad & apollo going after him as a Novice Attorney should just feels wrong & cheapens it down & it makes whatever phoenix say not feel GENUINE. they try to make you think phoenix cares about apollo but for example, in aa5, this is only related to himself - how could apollo leave their agency? how could he accuse athena & do this to both of us? and forgets things such as: trucy being taken hostage in the space place being because SHE WENT THERE TO FIND APOLLO so y’know? why is apollo never mentioned as someone they’re worrying about? isn’t he supposed to be there? and added up with the ‘oh i forgot about apollo’ jokes they kept and how that’s literally the only thing they keep from aa4 phoenix (apollo being the butt of his jokes), it doesn’t look good. 

and in aa6, especially HERE, where phoenix caring abt apollo and being Proud of him is the biggest thing & a supposed ‘closure’ to apollo’s arc(lol) it doesn’t feel good at all bc there’s no proper buildup !! it actually feels even more uncomfortable. with phoenix trying to act like a Good Guy & Good Boss & talking abt how he ‘saw’ apollo grow & how he is ‘proud’ of him while putting all the shit he did in aa4 under the rug AND w apollo not being allowed to be mad at him and only allowed to idolize him as a bonus. 

CONCLUSION: a mentor & apprentice dynamic that could’ve been interesting, a charac dev to phoenix that could’ve made sense&would’ve been good, were all thrown in the trash for an idolized & no wrong version of it that doesn’t feel fulfilling at all.
