I have a lot to do and not enough energy to do it just yet, thanks to holidays and a backlog at work. Have I always been this tired, or have I forgotten? A riddle to solve in this new year. (No idea how i survived the last one aside from being a vertebrate cockroach)
Anyway, I still don’t know what I’m doing when it comes to Linocut, so I need to walk myself through the print process like I am a toddler. At least the plate looks nice at this stage?
Hopefully I can get back to regularly sketching at the very least. It’s been a journey.

"Wild Hearts" - Continuing to think in linocut terms and imagining if I had access to silver and gold inks as well. Things like this would have to be REAL big. I find carving relaxing when all the artistic decisions are already made. I wonder if the local arts place would ever have a printmaking class that could walk me through their presses or printing technique...I can carve the blocks themselves just fine.

I keep trying to think that I can't fight every disgusting old man I have to deal with in my life but I really don't want to go to tomorrow's or the day after class because I cant not listen to that old gross man talk any longer

Watching AMC's The Terror has caused me to add a LOT more time into my diary entries for the sake of mystery... "It's been three weeks since the incident.. I don't know how I can continue with political relations as they are" (I got in trouble for goofing around in the printmaking studio and now the professor hates me)

Kim Lim (1936-1997, Singaporean/British)
In 1954, Kim Lim left Singapore for Britain with the aim of studying art and becoming an artist. In London, she enrolled at St. Martin’s School of Fine Art and later at the Slade School of Fine Art, studying printmaking and sculpture with equal enthusiasm—two approaches that formed the basis of her work in the four decades that followed. During those formative school years, Lim studied under Anthony Caro and befriended other artists like Tess Jaray and Julia Farrer. She was particularly fascinated by the work of Brancusi, a shared affinity with William Turnbull, who became her husband in 1960. Lim began exhibiting work relatively soon after finishing her studies, with her first solo exhibition at Axiom Gallery in 1966 where she displayed early, colourful works such as Borneo II and Candy (as seen in the studio shot below), acquired the year after it was made by the Arts Council Collection. She exhibited regularly through the 1970s and 1980s with Nicola Jacobs Gallery.
Much of Lim’s early work can be characterised by her engagement with materials such as wood and bronze. Her printmaking practice was equally pervasive and prominent from the beginning. Works such as Abacus I and II (1959), two sister relief sculptures, modelled after the ancient Chinese calculation tool, employ a poverty of material and reveal Lim’s ability to transform fundamental shapes and concepts with an elegant gesture. Made of plaster shapes hung on wire within a rectangular wooden frame, these works eschew “high art” material for simplicity of form. Both works are now in the collections of the Singapore National Gallery and M+ in Hong Kong, respectively. Lim extracted inspiration from her own personal journey from the East to West, with the vernacular of those artists she admired from the West such as Giacometti. Importantly, Lim looked outside the “canon” of art as well. A keen observer of nature and of natural forces, she would echo the sinuous curves of a vast desert plain, the waves of a silent sea breeze, and other experiential moments of life in her work. The strength of a Gingko tree’s trunk, for example, as seen in the 1989 sculpture titled after this living fossil, in which a monolith of rose aurora marble fluted and carved by hand rests on a Portland stone base.
Lim’s 1970s work is marked by a deeper experimentation into concepts of “form, space, rhythm and light”. Her series Intervals, which refers to both sculptural and paper works, employs negative space with equal detail as it does with ideas of density and volume. The year 1979 would prove be a watershed moment for the artist, culminating in a mid-career survey show at The Roundhouse where Lim would exhibit works from every period in a non-linear and non-chronological method, partly in response to the venue itself, a circular gallery space. This was also the year that Lim moved toward an embracing of stone and marble mediums, materials that would remain present in her practice until her untimely passing in 1997.

seeing how your art has changed in your blog over time is absolutely delicious. Do you have any really early old art or art progression pictures? Idk if that makes sense.
Sure!
I'll just throw a bunch of different stuff from over the years in here. My work has always kind of been split in two, between the more academic/"fine arts" work and the more highly stylized, comic book-type work that I make.
The earliest stuff I have is unfortunately just from when I was 12. I'm sure there is art my grandma kept somewhere from when I was younger than that, but I've yet to see it.
So for now these are the earliest drawing of mine that exists on the internet, I believe... This would've been roughly 2008 or 2009.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was both highly inspired by drawings of anime girls on the internet and Dali. And also Jhonen Vasquez.
Tumblr media
This was around 13 because y'know. Vocaloid.
Then these were all from the latter half of high school, so anywhere between 16-17 where I was doing work in school and fanart/original art in my free time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was doing a LOT of these loose gesture drawings every day, and then got into acrylic painting as a senior (though I didn't pursue it through college like I expected to)...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
... And a WHOOLE lot of these digital drawings in my free time. Ironically this was also probably the last time I really tried my hand at digital painting, too.
I continued this trend through college, where my life was balanced between digital and traditional art, and even then became a balance between digital drawings, ink drawings, charcoal gestures and printmaking (plus whatever else I was doing at the time, so like... Metals/jewelry casting and wood engraving. Unfortunately I never got to try my hand at blacksmithing, though I really wanted to).
After college things steadily dropped off, so it got to a point where I've ONLY been doing the fandom/comics side of things and over the years I've really found myself burning out on it. That's why I'm trying to regain that balance again.

Forget Me Not is not just a gin…
It’s an opportunity to support the arts and acknowledge the positive contribution creative industries make to society.
Literature, visual and performance art touches our lives daily. Sadly, arts funding everywhere has been cut over the past decade, affecting many artists at the outset of their careers. We want to help plug the funding gap so that tomorrow’s important artists get the support they need to reach their full potential.
See our Projects section for more information on how we will use profits from Forget Me Not to support arts programmes around the world.

Our Projects
We will regularly update you with information on the arts projects we are funding from our profits. We are proud that our first project has been to sponsor the SWG3 Graduate Programme.
The SWG3 Graduate Programme is a 12-month sponsored studio residency and commissioning programme open to artists and designers each year. The programme has been running since 2005 when SWG3 and has become one of the most sought after opportunities in the UK for creatives to continue to develop their practice after higher education.
Tumblr media
SWG3’s accessible approach to the arts, and their focus on early stage support for creative talent has enabled over 60 graduates to date to benefit from their studio programme, and go on to become established, successful practitioners.
The application process opens every September, and is available to all current year graduates and leavers from arts and creative industry practical courses who can show a studio based approach to their work, and a real commitment to their practice.

PROJECT 1
Amanda Seibæk
Amanda Seibæk is a Danish artist who works across painting and printmaking.
As a graduate of Glasgow School of Art, Seibæk works with autotheory – connecting multiple fields of knowledge, never deeming any irrelevant for her explorations. This she uses as a tool to describe turmoil in contemporary life though a more poetic lens. The subject rages from neuroscience through to mundane weekend tales told by her friends.
Materially, Seibæk connects the mediums of painting and printmaking. She sees colours in layers and with colours she shapes her figures. When connecting print and paint she tries to develop a language where print is not locked, but rather freed by the brush as a playful tool to make sense of something intuitive.

Hi! My name is Zell and I’m a self-taught ceramicist from New Mexico! Since every other social media is big stinky at the moment (and let’s face it, it’ll probably continue to be like that) I’m back on tumblr for the first time since I was about 16. You can find my work for sale locally to Albuquerque, NM, at the Squidly Store, and Slice of Life! Online, at the moment, I sell discounted b-grades, stickers, and some smaller items on my ko-fi, which you can find at the link in my bio! I have a lot more to show than just this, but these are some of my long-time favorites.
I started ceramics back in 2019, and had very on/off access to it throughout 2020-2022! I am 100% self-taught with ceramics, but also I’m realizing as I type this, I’m self taught with most every art I know 😂 I also started my journey in printmaking In August of 2024!
I’m currently 25, I live in the mountains, I have a very small black cat that I found in a car engine (and I would KILL for her), and I really enjoy dying my hair! I’m just a wee bit neurospicy and queer as well! I really love Pokémon, Gudetama, mini-brands and tiny trinkets of that genre, Cult of the Lamb, clowns, animal crossing, Minecraft, Dance Gavin Dance, deep sea animals (especially oarfish), birds, the game grumps…. There’s definitely more, but that’s a little bit about me! If you’ve stayed this long: thanks! Hope you continue to follow me and my work. ❤️
Last thing: I can also be found on instagram, Facebook, and whatever is going on with TikTok under the same name: androgynousalienart

Hello people of tumblr. I am but another fish in the sea, another skin cell in the dust if you catch my drift.
An unintentional New Year’s resolution was made and that is that I want to spend this year dedicating my time to what I love. I will be doing this through making art, photography, writing, singing, guitar, collecting everything I love, all that stuff!
Anyways, if you have any similar interests or have a shared whimsical yet realistic hopeful optimistic yet horribly depressed always and tired but still horribly happy to be able to live life and want to connect, hello Party people 🙌
I am rumored to be that of an old soul.
I love philosophy (for the most part existentialism and absurdism) and the different ways of perceiving the outer world and how it translates to the internal world. The ego, being and nonbeing, consciousness, life and death, human anatomy, the history of everything, time, nature, literally just about everything. The way everything coexists amongst itself. If that helps you get an idea of it.
I love music, I love a handful of different genres, picky about modern music but love 1900s-1990s, super into 20s-30s jazz music from the start of swing in 1938 to its big band era of 30s-40s stuff, to the 50s-60s and the 60s-70s psychedelic rock and synth stuff and garage bands and literally everything counter culture ever, 70s-80s from early new wave to punk to electronic and everything else, 80s-90s post punk British indie early grunge,,,, you get the idea.
I also enjoy ambient artists Brian Eno and Harold Budd.
I’m a photographer, everything I see is beautiful, I find beauty in the mundane, the ordinary, the very inter workings of everything, small details, minor things creating the bigger picture. I like a variety of photography yet I am picky. Love vintage vernacular photography, I have a collection of old photos, photobooth photography, glamor shots, yearbook portraits, candid photography, documentary photography, fashion photography, I just love it all.
I paint too. And draw. Oil paintings and led pencil mostly.
Anyways. I love a lot of things. Vintage clothing. Old ephemera. Button pins. Print media. Printmaking. Fabric. Colors. Wood paneling. Too many things to name but I think I will make it a point to name 5 things I love a day. I won’t continue on about what I love because I love a lot. That’s enough.
I love chartreuse …

I achieved a bunch of things this year that I really wanted to do and I'm proud of that - doing more traditional printmaking, a gallery exhibition, collaborative zines, worked on my shop and received a huge amount of support from many places (big thanks, you lot💜).
But to get a little more sombre for a moment - what I've achieved is remarkable, yet a lot of what I wanted to do fell by the wayside given that this was also the year my dad died and this was a huge loss that I cannot fully articulate right now.
I am trying to remain patient with myself, but I'm also hopeful that in the new year I can find more time to create and progress with the many things that I want to do. I hope what I make will continue to resonate with others as much as it expresses my own feelings and experiences.
