7 Star Wars Reading Recommendations

Hello there.

Winter up north is often a time of struggling to get out of bed, turning on all the lights to fight the darkness, staying indoors to avoid the cold.

A perfect time to read.

Here, some personal recommendations of mostly longer darker works I found this year with unique styles and takes. Some are not completed yet. But nearly all of them concentrate on emotions, grimmer themes and character dynamics making them imho compelling reads I honestly would have picked up in a bookstore.

1. "Five times Nocte took care of the Corries, and one time they returned the favor" by @purgetrooperfox, ao3 tumblr

Nocte is a Medic for the Coruscant Guard. In several chapters Nocte tries to do his best helping his vod through the violent realities of being a clone trooper in the guard. Every chapter concentrates on one character. All a very well done with Nocte being the point of view from which the stories get told. Honestly, it was so good that I thought Nocte is a real canon character. The tags are no joke and this is not a romantic collection of stories. What is guaranteed is a love for all the corries, their care for each other as well as an impeccable writing style.

2. "Written in Ink" by RubyStiff89, ao3

The ongoing series is both a romance between a feisty female journalist named Dot and Tech, as well as a thriller like adventure about politics, investigative journalism and the horrors of war and oppression. It feels like the author took a good look into the history books about Germany 1933 and used that to draw out a compelling plot about how liberty dies. amazing.

also, Tech gets teased by his brothers in the cutest fashion and Crosshair knowing every sex worker on Coruscant had me laughing.

3. "Coriolis Effect" by @uponrightful, tumblr ao3

I feel like i have recommended this to everyone personally i know already but i cannot stress how good this is. Duchess is a weapons director stationed on Kamino. While working there, she has the initial displeasure of meeting his grumpiness in person, Crosshair from tbb himself. But a romance with a dramatic flare would not be a romance if this initial displeasure would change into something very different. And while the pinning and incredibly written inner Monologes of the grumpy sniper occure, Duchess and the Bad Batch need to find out who steals weapons from the GAR.

4. "Tell Me Where Your Soul Lies Now" by @detroitbydark, tumblr ao3

In this ongoing story line Scorch and Sev from delta squat make it to Kirimorut on Mandalore where they live as sons of Walon Vau together with the rest of the Kal Skirata clan. Their life's change with the accidental arrival of Jessa, a runaway slave. All three are incredible well written characters, trying to get used to the domestic mandalore homestead life and each other, while struggling with severe trauma. It is romance but taps into other psychological and sinister corners of literature as well.

Bonus; Parts are written from Walon Vau's perspective and him not knowing how to emotion and affection is a delight.

5. "Calm" by @maybege, tumblr ao3

This romance is between Paz Vizsla and a female teacher. It is written with A/B/O dynamics (look it up if you do not know what this is before reading). The plot concentrates on clan rivalries that need to be worked through in several diplomatic meetings all while Paz and the reader get to know each other in a unique Alpha and Omega dynamic. This soft romance has surprising moments with some really good emotional communication, reflection and a well fitting style.

Includes a lot of smut that is part of the plot and cannot be skipped, not recommended for sex repulsed readers.

6. "By Any Other Name" by @rowansparrow, tumblr

This finished series was so good, that it got its own still ongoing sequel. So reading this will take a while but is absolutely worth it. This romance concentrates on Rose, a clone trooper in the 501st, and Y/N reader as well as Captain Rex. I don't want to spoil too much but the plot has some serious soul crushing losses, believable emotional breakdowns, well placed love scenes and an abundance of violence. All of it fits perfectly into a well worded psychological and complex love story/world of suffering.

(I mean it, LOTS of suffering, check the tags)

7. "Infectious" by @evilmouse18, ao3

*breaths heavily* ok. This is a sex or die one so lot's of smut. But don't be fooled, the dialogues between Thrawn and Arihnda Pryce (yes they actually talk too) are really good and show their complex emotions in a strange and uncomfortable situation. Pryce gets infected by a disease and Thrawn kind of ends up in the position to help her accidentally. But both of them are very different people with very different outlooks on life and emotions, and it's fun to see them work through that like adults all while fucking away a disease.

Smut cannot be skipped in a reasonable way, not recommended for sex repulsed readers.

Also, I have read a lot this year. Most of which is not on this list not because its not good but because it's shorter and more accessible. I wanted to give a shoutout to the longer sometimes "stranger" pieces that many readers might feel like they would need to invest a lot more time first before enjoying it.
