Early Saturday morning, I killed myself with toxic gas. The last two years of my life have been a slow motion death sentence, and I’ve finally chosen to complete it on my own terms. I started planning this more than a month ago when I first realized that my last chance for survival had failed me. I’m mentally disabled, very ill and I was illegally fired from my last job as a dishwasher because of it six months ago. Since then, I’ve been fighting a discrimination case against the company through the Seattle Office for Civil Rights. They hold the fact that they cover my bills over me to try to leverage me into more and more of their impulsive demands, they talk to me like I’m a pet dog and to this day it’s never stopped even though I’m 20. I’d need the settlement money to cover my life expenses until I could get back on my feet alone, given that relying on my parents is untenable and could be revoke any month now on their whim. They were very clearly freestyling their parenting methods, with zero regard for my wellbeing and the pathetic notion that they could squeeze aspects of me that they disapproved of out with force, and I’ll eventually submit to their every whim after their force me through enough misery and suffering. It was at that point that I was forced out of their place, and living out of a suitcase I couch hopped until landing at this current house in December.

The cannabis has been medicinal since that summer two years ago for PTSD, I had been illegally detained (essentially kidnapped) and psychologically tortured at a mental institution for more than two weeks. I was the victim of multiple felonies committed by government officials and medical professionals, including perjury and malpractice to justify my detainment in what was basically a jail. It was aided and encouraged by my parents, my mom said the first night she had slept well in a while was after hearing that I had gotten locked up. That arguably makes it worse than jail since aside from the massive corruption and inequality at the roots of the criminal justice system, there’s still the intention and supposition of fair and due process. The cops decided not to charge me with possession and I went to the ER while still super drunk and out of it. The staff at the hospital there didn’t wait at all to question me which I’m pretty certain was illegal, if they waited a few hours until I sobered up I would have told them succinctly the foolish mistakes I made and wouldn’t make again, and that I wasn’t in any danger to anyone. Instead the responses they got from me were drunken mumbling and incoherent partial words, which they used to justify me needing to be shipped off to an institution the next day. Once there I petitioned to be released as soon as possible but I was obstructed everywhere and I was diagnosed with “cannabis use disorder,” normally diagnosed with daily smokers for a decade but I had only been for six months, and they intended to treat it through psychological torture and abuse. It was insanely traumatic and I went on a hunger strike the whole time, only eating some very small snacks and drinking more than ten cups of tea a day. I had bought tickets to fly out and protest at the Democratic National Convention for Bernie, but I was locked up over that whole time and couldn’t follow what happened at all. Since I got out I’ve needed cannabis to cope with the PTSD from then. If I lived in a socialist country then these institutions would actually exist to help people and treat them, and I would have gotten help with the judgment issues that led to the drug mishap. Instead these institutions betrayed me and threw my life into a tailspin, all for some company’s profit.

And at the very least my parents should have stood up for me and done anything to help me from the predatory hospitals but they were completely on their side and took pleasure in my suffering. They have never let up this behavior pattern since, kicking me out on the street a few months later and then six months ago they trigged the incident which led to my former employer turning on me. Then in January they tried to have me murdered by bring cops banging down my door because they exaggerated and trumped up the risk that I was violent which was nonsense and something that I went out of my way to try to tell them. It is the police’s job to exterminate the mentally ill, and having someone lie that you’re a violent threat exponentiates the risk of being gunned down. I kept them from coming inside but they made a huge disturbance for more than an hour on a Saturday afternoon. If I wasn’t white, there would be no question they would have broken the door down and executed me. All of this was done under my parent’s greedy impulses and attempts to force me to become subservient, submissive and forget my long history of being abused by them. They should be given no condolences or extended any sympathy, they need to be criminally investigated and prosecuted for driving my life to its end.

After many traumas all at once last spring (being laid off, losing my partner and all of my friends, people encouraging me to kill myself, friendship with my landlord was ruined, returning to dependence on parents), compounded with my PTSD led me to develop more serious cognitive disabilities, what I suspect is brain damage from hypersecretion of glucocorticoids in the limbic system. We think that our external environment and its objects have physical permanence, while our thoughts in our head are imaginary neurochemical processes, but consciousness is a form of matter ultimately inseparable from anything “physical.” When a 30fps video is slowed down frame by frame, that’s sinking down one order in magnitude of playback speed. If we could do that with the linear time we exist in 44 times, we would reach the plane of existence from which everything that’s ever been and ever will be is conjured from.

Now we think of those in past eras as just stupid and bored from their lack of modern technology, and they only hallucinated and wrote religious tales to replace the forms of innovation valued post-industrialization. I never really dream, either that or I’m never consciously aware of it. I suspect it’s from always having so many cannabinoids flowing through my brain putting me in too deep sleep to allow my conscious to travel to another reality. If there would have been precognitions in them, maybe it’s also because of my fear of the future and being too occupied with messes in the present to wonder what will come after. Instead I push my conscious to travel outside of this realm through entheogens, which is how I met god during a McKenna heroic dose of fungus. I traveled into a realm completely filled with moving and spiraling fractalized columns of light and waves of energy. I was taken on a tour throughout time and space, traveling between discombobulated and disjointed morphing spatiotemporal environments. Later I realized that I had been taken to the implicated realm from which all of this universe’s particles unfold out of, and some force was spinning me around and through this cosmic soup. I had been researching and studying all of this closely for many months beforehand but when I had everything that I supposed to be accurate about reality through holographic theory absolutely proven and validated just by eating a handful of things that had grown out of the ground in nature in my city, I became 100% certain of the validity in all of this. The amount of unfathomably unpredictable evidence that would be needed to safely and thoroughly disprove holographic theory makes it a practical impossibility, there’s so much otherwise unexplained that is resolved perfectly this way.

But these alternate planes are much more real than our reality, and calling it a trip could not be more accurate as it is essentially traveling towards home, as in the origin of all of us and everything else. One’s consciousness, being energy waves in a different form than whats around it, exists in a spectrum between entirely localized in the brain and expanding radiating outwards to rejoin the cosmic energy. When low/mild doses of entheogens give one visuals that fill, surround and saturate the visual field, it is their consciousness beginning to expand outwards and begin moving towards the other end of the energy spectrum. Taking a large dose is more like god reaching a hand out of the sky and plucking their soul out of their body and tossing it out of this simulation. By god I don’t mean a singular or cohesive entity, but of the powerful forces manifested by the collective universal consciousness. That’s why the most important thing for people to do is just QUESTION. For most of my life I thought, as we’re all raised to, that communists are evil authoritarians and that it’s not something anyone takes seriously. But up until I shed my last trace of liberalism and beyond, I kept questioning everything and being skeptical, which led me on a path eventually ending at becoming a devout communist. Like many others I started being inspired about political change and social justice from Bernie’s campaign. During his speech at Safeco Field my volunteer job was to run up and down the line waiting outside before helping people, and the lines stretched block after block after block after block in every direction. And everyone was excited or cheering, that kind of mass enthusiasm about something so progressive made me genuinely optimistic about a radically improved future. Then I watched all of the rigging, interference and corruption by the democratic party and corporate media. I knew what was happening behind the scenes all along, but the wikileaks podesta emails of course proved it all. It was soon after that that my political involvement and aspirations were demolished when I was kidnapped during the DNC convention. For better or for worse I was not at all tuned into all the fuckery and media nonsense happening around late summer that year since obviously no internet in there. So after that I just kinda gave up on Bernie, started to move on and voted for Jill Stein. If only I had known I’d fallen victim to a disinformation campaign led by Putin to sow discord in the stable and perfectly equal American democracy!

I think I was one of the only people that was not at all surprised and completely indifferent on election night, going into it I knew there was a 50/50 chance and it could go either way dependent on a million unpredictable things. At least it was hilarious seeing the delusional liberal establishment having their hopes and fantasies of a continued neoliberal slow descent into corporate neofeudalism shattered. I honestly thought Trump was gonna get assassinated either before or soon after taking office, largely driven by my throwing up my hands and saying fuck it to any sense of an illusion of social stability. Yet at that point I suppose I didn’t fully understand the size, power and pervasiveness of the elites and the extent of their resources to which they protect their own and maintain control over what tragedies or shocking events are allowed to happen or unfold in different ways.

The American Medical Association Specialty Society Relative Value Scale Update Committee (nicknamed RUC, because AMASSRVSUC is an abominable Elder God summoned to our plane by successfully pronouncing his unwieldy name) consists of a mere 31 physicians, each representing one of the different medical specialties, but all tasked with deciding what literally everything they do should cost. You might have heard of this practice before, but using different words — in basically any other industry, it’s known as “price fixing,” the culprits are called “cartels,” and the whole thing is incredibly illegal. In the case of American medicine, it’s standard government-approved practice.

Here’s how it works (or rather, “works”): The committee assigns every medical procedure a number of relative value units (RVU), which account for the amount of work a doctor performs, the costs to the practice, and malpractice liability.

And though the RUC technically only makes “suggestions,” the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) accept the committee’s recommendations 90 percent of the time. Private insurance companies in turn base their negotiations on whatever CMS pays through Medicare. In a healthcare system dominated by fee-for-service payment models, physicians’ pay is based on how many RVUs they produce. Three types of specialist — orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, and general surgeons — are members of the “Two Million Club,” meaning each type of physician makes, on average, more than $2 million a year for their hospital, based on their RVUs.

Interestingly, assigning RVUs is a zero sum game; if the RUC wants to increase RVUs for one procedure, they need to decrease it for others. Needless to say, the arguments can get pretty heated, since the members know they are essentially negotiating their salaries. Specialists absolutely dominate the RUC. As a result, the committee is partly responsible for the gap in pay between specialists and primary care physicians. This has led to a shortage of primary care physicians in the U.S., and an emphasis on complex procedures at the expense of preventive health measures. RVU assignments may also explain why 15 minutes became the standard amount of time for each doctor appointment. Typical wellness visits are not given very high RVUs, so doctors are pressured to crank through patients like Pringles.

In the run-up to the 2016 election, social media was swamped with false viral news stories, and when the real media tried to trace them to their sources, they discovered that most of them were, weirdly enough, coming from the small Macedonian town of Veles, which has a population of around 50,000.

The teenagers and young adults of Veles have become rich off an entire cottage industry of fake news, having set up around 100 websites dedicated to making up stories about American politicians and sharing them on Facebook for ad revenue. And when we say rich, we mean these kids are making upwards of $100,000 a year from Google Ads — all in a town where the average annual wage is around $4,800.

Its next-biggest industries are turnip farming and begging.

According to the young men in question, they don’t have any ideological reason for focusing on pro-Trump articles — those are simply the ones that succeed. During the election campaign, they also tried making up pro-Hillary and pro-Sanders bullshit, but people weren’t sharing it. In Veles, new nightclubs have opened this year just for local youths to spend their money on. The impoverished streets are now lined with brand-new BMWs, all purchased with ad revenue from viral articles they wrote about Hillary Clinton being diagnosed with Ebola and Trump having a secret Iron Man suit.

Half Of The World’s Opioid Supply Comes From One Valley

The U.S. and Canada are currently dealing with one of the biggest drug crises of all time. Drug-related deaths are higher than ever before, particularly from opioids like heroin, opium, morphine, codeine, and OxyContin. These drugs all come from the seeds of one plant: the opium poppy. And by sheer volume, almost all of those plants come from one place: Afghanistan.

Which is weird, because when has anything bad ever come out of Afghanistan?

Not only does Afghanistan produce almost 90 percent of the world’s poppy extract — both the good stuff that gets delivered by a doctor in a hospital and the bad stuff that gets delivered by a guy named “Docta” in the alleyway behind Arby’s — but fully half of that 90 percent comes from a single valley: Helmand Province.

Those fields aren’t grass.

The poppy seed trade in Afghanistan is so massive that it accounts for around 15 percent of the country’s GDP, and although poppy seeds are also a non-mind-altering culinary ingredient, the bulk of this annual harvest doesn’t wind up sprinkled on a disappointing muffin. If you live in the U.S., you know healthcare is wildly expensive. Or maybe you don’t. Because you’re dead. From not being able to afford healthcare. Supposedly, this is all a natural consequence of the free market doing its job. Who can control that market? It is so wild. So free. Like a majestic Palomino prancing in a glade.

In reality, the price of medical procedures is almost entirely decided by 31 people, all sitting in a room together and throwing darts at a bingo card.

The American Medical Association Specialty Society Relative Value Scale Update Committee (nicknamed RUC, because AMASSRVSUC is an abominable Elder God summoned to our plane by successfully pronouncing his unwieldy name) consists of a mere 31 physicians, each representing one of the different medical specialties, but all tasked with deciding what literally everything they do should cost. You might have heard of this practice before, but using different words — in basically any other industry, it’s known as “price fixing,” the culprits are called “cartels,” and the whole thing is incredibly illegal. In the case of American medicine, it’s standard government-approved practice.

Here’s how it works (or rather, “works”): The committee assigns every medical procedure a number of relative value units (RVU), which account for the amount of work a doctor performs, the costs to the practice, and malpractice liability.

And though the RUC technically only makes “suggestions,” the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) accept the committee’s recommendations 90 percent of the time. Private insurance companies in turn base their negotiations on whatever CMS pays through Medicare. In a healthcare system dominated by fee-for-service payment models, physicians’ pay is based on how many RVUs they produce. Three types of specialist — orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, and general surgeons — are members of the “Two Million Club,” meaning each type of physician makes, on average, more than $2 million a year for their hospital, based on their RVUs.

Interestingly, assigning RVUs is a zero sum game; if the RUC wants to increase RVUs for one procedure, they need to decrease it for others. Needless to say, the arguments can get pretty heated, since the members know they are essentially negotiating their salaries. Specialists absolutely dominate the RUC. As a result, the committee is partly responsible for the gap in pay between specialists and primary care physicians. This has led to a shortage of primary care physicians in the U.S., and an emphasis on complex procedures at the expense of preventive health measures. RVU assignments may also explain why 15 minutes became the standard amount of time for each doctor appointment. Typical wellness visits are not given very high RVUs, so doctors are pressured to crank through patients like Pringles.

You probably assumed the name was unrelated to the tire company, but if so, you were mistaken. For some reason, a tire company decides the fate of fine dining.

To be fair, their expert does look like he’s had some experience with eating.

Michelin’s unlikely influence in the world of high-class cuisine began in 1900, when hardly anyone owned a car. They started publishing the Michelin Restaurant Guide as a free brochure that mapped the best restaurants in France (their home country), using a three-star rating system. The rather flimsy subtext was “You could visit any of these places right now if you had a car. A car with tires. Specifically, our tires.” It was a cheap, desperate gimmick, and it didn’t really matter.

It was like that time a beer company put out a trivia book, and everyone responded reasonably.

But over the next hundred years, Michelin continued to publish its annual guide, and its standards began to evolve. Today, earning a single Michelin star is the restaurant equivalent of winning an Oscar. Having two means you’re one of the top dining establishments in the entire world. Three Michelin stars means you’re the kind of place Bill Gates has to budget for, and you’re serving meals that Caligula would call “a little over the top.”

Half Of The World’s Opioid Supply Comes From One Valley

The U.S. and Canada are currently dealing with one of the biggest drug crises of all time. Drug-related deaths are higher than ever before, particularly from opioids like heroin, opium, morphine, codeine, and OxyContin. These drugs all come from the seeds of one plant: the opium poppy. And by sheer volume, almost all of those plants come from one place: Afghanistan.

Which is weird, because when has anything bad ever come out of Afghanistan?

Not only does Afghanistan produce almost 90 percent of the world’s poppy extract — both the good stuff that gets delivered by a doctor in a hospital and the bad stuff that gets delivered by a guy named “Docta” in the alleyway behind Arby’s — but fully half of that 90 percent comes from a single valley: Helmand Province.

Those fields aren’t grass.

The poppy seed trade in Afghanistan is so massive that it accounts for around 15 percent of the country’s GDP, and although poppy seeds are also a non-mind-altering culinary ingredient, the bulk of this annual harvest doesn’t wind up sprinkled on a disappointing muffin. Afghanistan has the biggest drug economy in the world, leaving even South America’s cocaine industry in the dust and making Pablo Escobar’s empire look like a Kickstarter project.

We hope this doesn’t lead to Afghanistan becoming a dangerous place sometime in the future.

The 2001 American invasion of Afghanistan only made this issue worse. The ruling Taliban had a lot of really, really shitty ideas, but one of their better ones was “zero tolerance on opium production.” When the regime fell, poppy production and exports skyrocketed, despite a multi-billion-dollar effort by the U.S. to curtail it. Technically, the practice is still illegal in Afghanistan, but the government knows how much money it rakes in for the country and how well poppy farmers, uh, “tip” the authorities.

Every Beer Brand In The U.S. Is At The Whim Of One Obscure Bureaucrat

Each of the hundreds of American beer brands — from Coors on down to the craft brew your hipster uncle whips up in his basement — has its own unique name and label. And every single one of them has to be individually approved by one single bureaucrat. Also, he’s a lunatic.

The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau’s Malt Beverage Labeling Specialist is the title given to the one person in charge of approving or denying the name and label design of every single beer that is sold in America — an industry that grossed $252 billion in 2016. Until his retirement in 2015, that person was Kent Martin, who demanded that people refer to him simply as “Battle.”

That’s not the crazy part. That’s the awesome part.

Battle was feared like a dictator for the decade that he worked as the TTB’s chief beer dude. Since there are no clearly defined regulations on what can or cannot appear on a beer label, Battle was handed the power to approve or veto the designs of one of America’s biggest industries based on little more than his intuition … and how much he likes puns. Because beer brewers seem to love them.

Battle was renowned for being irritatingly pedantic. Among those beers he vetoed, one was called “Liquid Wisdom” (rejected because “the name contains a medical claim” — a medical claim to … wisdom?), one featured a King of Hearts playing card (any image of a heart apparently implies a health benefit), one had a picture of a hamburger (supposedly misled customers into “thinking the beer includes a meat product” — how ripped off would you feel if you bought it and it wasn’t Baconator-flavored?), and one had a picture of Santa Claus, but according to Battle, Santa looked drunk. And Santa doesn’t get drunk. That’s an official government opinion.

Other labels should have been banned for implying the beverage contains alcohol.

Brewers knew that his word was law, and in all his time in office, there was only one known example of someone winning a battle against Battle. A California brewer wanted to market a beer called Weed Ale, which Battle vetoed because of the marijuana implication. But the beer was brewed in the town of Weed, CA, named after Civil War hero Abner Weed. It took an intervention from the ACLU, a senator, and goddamn Congress before Battle agreed to back down. Turns out his name wasn’t just bravado — the dude would fistfight God himself if the Almighty dared to put a Whopper on a Pilsner label.

Medical Physicians are probably one of the highest paid professions in the world. These professionals make a lot of money and have the ability to set their own schedules to some extent, but it’s certainly not an easy job. Doctors provide diagnosis, treatment, medicines and counselling to people suffering from a variety of illnesses and diseases.

To be part of the medical profession it takes years and years of study and sometimes life just doesn’t allow you to take time off for your studies. This is where distance learning online courses in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman and the rest of the Middle East come in handy.

Even with a promise of higher salaries, the medical world may not be something that is for you. However, these are various routes such as Psychology of Work (a course dedicated to people interested in the HR profession) or aMasters in Diabetes (a course designed to help practitioners understand how to combat diabetes through clinical research)

Nevertheless, this article discusses the requirements of someone interested in the medical field

Eight Years at the least!

Upon completing your undergraduate degree, you would have at the least another 8 yeas of full-time schooling before you can become a medical doctor. If you want to specialize you may be looking at close to 10-12 years of additional study time. The time commitment and financial commitment is enormous and this makes them the number one reasons why most people opt out of the medical world professions. So if you like working with people and want to become a ‘healer’ just be sure you are truly interested in the medicine world to dedicate the first few years of your young life. Your friends may already have started their careers in sales or marketing or finance, but your dedication will be your success!

Shadow a Doctor

This is an interesting suggestion, before you start with medical school, get in touch with your local physician and request to shadow/follow them around for a week! This could be clubbed with internship activities for your high school or IB diploma in the last couple of years and then you would get a true sense of what it means to help people. You could also go to the extent of shadowing several doctors in different departments and you would then be in an informed position before taking the plunge!

If shadowing is not possible, consider volunteering at a local hospital, a nursing home or any other health care related establishment. This way you will gain valuable exposure that will not only support your medical degree application but give you first hand experience of what is the scope and range of the industry.

How big are the Salaries?

Doctors can make anywhere between $80,000 a year to well over $200,000 a year depending on the specialties and their experience, the reputation of the facility and the doctor itself. We have heard numerous stories of doctors traveling from all over the world to consult on special surgical cases as well as month long waiting lists to meet a renowned specialist such as cardiac surgeons, brain surgeons and so on.

The salary points are influenced by all the above points but with all the years of hard work and dedication the difference in earnings from someone in a sales position is significant! Dentists tend to own their own practice and consult in larger hospitals, the potential earnings is huge if you provide proper facilities and services. We all know we check with family and friends (even on Facebook groups) prior to consulting with a doctor, dentist or paediatrist as we want the best for ourselves and our families.

The Downsides

Just as there are significant advantages to being in the medical world there are also a number of downsides to being a doctor.

·         If you are a surgeon or an obstetric or an anesthesiologist, you would be on call for at least half the month – day and night.

·      ��  Sometimes you are not even allowed to take a break during holiday season, such as Christmas, Eid, Diwali and so on.

·         Your family life will be structured around your work schedules and may not always be fair to your spouse and children.

·         Malpractice Insurance for doctors is extremely expensive

But we all need doctors and surgeons and dentists and so on… don’t we? These are also major reasons who medical professionals are so highly paid, replacing them is not as easy as replacing an admin staff member.

Other options/possibilities:

So, as I mentioned at the start of this article, after reading through all the ups and down of the medical world and gaining some hands-on experience through internships, you decide this is not for you but you still want to ‘help’ people…then you may want to consider becoming a nurse or a physician’s assistant.

Nursing like doctors are as knowledgeable and as informed but unable to give out prescriptions. It is the nurses who actually take care of in-patients and make sure recovery is going as planned/expected. Doctors visit their patients once a day on their rounds and that’s it!

A physician’s assistants position also allows you to work with patients, pays fairly well and is less demanding in terms of time commitment, financial commitment and stress!

What other options are available via distance education in UAE? How about an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to start with? It does not take long to complete this course (varies from country to country) and plays an extremely important role intervening in medical emergencies!

I would recommend you investigate the local/regional possibilities such as the University of Leicester distance learning masters’ programs in health & psychology.

Checklist Before signing up

Here is a simple checklist to review prior to investing in your medical degree:

        Can you commit to eight (8)years or more of studying after your undergraduate degree?

        Are you good at calculus?

        Are you capable of absorbing large volumes of information?

        Have you shadowed a doctor?

        Have you considered volunteer work while in school?

        Do you have an education and career roadmap?

        Can you handle the stress of the job?

        Have you addressed all the cons?

        Are you able to accept constructive criticism?

        Is research of more interest to you or is helping people?

        How much does it cost to start my own medical practice in the future?

When you have honestly answered, all the above questions, then I believe you will be in a position to decide whether or not the medical world is a right fit for you. Do not be daunted by this article or the scope of toil mentioned above, we need and want doctors, but doctors need to be sympathetic and genuinely concerned individuals…
