Top 3 teammate comparison - 2022
Ferrari:
Qualifying: -0.125s ; -0.002% for LEC
Race: -0.284s ; -0.003% for LEC
Red Bull
Qualifying: -0.284s ; -0.003% for VER
Race: -0.358s ; -0.004% for VER
Mercedes
Qualifying: -0.063s ; -0.001% for HAM
Race: -0.057s ; -0.001% for HAM
Percentage are the better value because the influence of track length is excluded.
Why certain values were excluded is annotated in the plots.
Methodolgy:
Qualifying:
Wet sessions excluded because when in the session the lap was set matters a lot and drivers don't always have power over that
Only Q3 sessions where both drivers had a proper chance to set a lap are counted.
Race
Alternative values used if there was a late DNF (laps until DNF) or of there was a late SC that changes the strategy between drivers (laps until SC). For Merc in Zandvoort it makes no difference.
Races where drivers had grid penalties, damage or otherwise issues or a lot of traffic are excluded. Because they aren't really representative.
Also I'm sure I forgot to exclude a session where a driver had issues so if I did please lmk!
#my data?#f1#Charles Leclerc#Carlos Sainz#Max Verstappen#Sergio Perez#Lewis Hamilton#George Russell#the plots are not super legible but I am not doing them again..

okay . okay. hello, hope you're going well! please excuse me doing this instead of commenting on lost boys, but i wasn't logged in on my phone and i am.. very lazy sJKCBGFDJKS
. i didn't realise you could add a 'keep reading' to asks? but uh. man i hope this brings you some joy, at least skjgbcfds
okay . oookay . okay head in my fUCKING hadns
i just went and reread the entire series, because i . CANNOT get this off of my mind. and i have SO MANY MORE QUESTIONS . AUGHGKFDJ
who is the queen? what happened to her? why was the moon an egg? what was the moon? what the fuck is etho? WHERE DO THE ALIENS COMEF ROM .NHNGJKFDS this featured in my DREAM last night, okay . you're sending me INSANE
i'm genuinely so so obsessed with the way you do buildup. i mean.. man, i've read the whole thing, but on reread i kept having to put my phone down and make (quite frankly inhuman) noises because the way you structure this entire series is so, so insanely talented and well-done and . aUGHHHGDFKJGBS I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY EXCEPT THAT I'M GOING INSANE ,. yeah. y eah.
. you're honestly an artist dude, this is so so well-developed, the worldbuilding is an insanely unique idea (the QUINTESSENCE ??? DUDE . even if etho has become its god, just the very concept of a world without sapience?? one that doesn't have purpose, doesn't have /meaning/, and yet was so hungry for a creator that it dragged etho into it?)
(NOT TO MENTION THE CHOKEHOLD THAT YOUR MAGIC SYSTEM HAS ON ME. tunguskite being the origin of magic (or not really magic at all), and then incorporating it into the blood of 'mages' to allow them to perform '''impossible''' tasks… man . m a n) (i'd also like to mention the etho/other etho dichotomy, and then the realization that it was always him after all? . gOD)
i can't stop thinking about how etho described demons as 'beings that can do magic without blood,' followed by pearl describing the reds as demons?. like ,, okay it might be coincidence. it might be accidental phrasing, or just a throwaway line, but i. i DON'T KNOW ANYMORE . GHH
. aughgHGHHHH I AM NOT A PATIENT PERSON THIS FIC IS DOING THISNGS TO ME . <- dramatic, please excuse me sKCJGBFDS
..anyway uh! i'm so sorry it's like three in the morning and i can't make this any more legible but i, uh. i hope you don't mind. this entire serious is absolutely wonderful, and i'd just like to thank you for the honour of being able to share in such wonderful writing and worldbuilding :)
-@crimson-roots (since i can't send asks from my sideblog, whoops :"D) . uhh! yeah! sorry again for rambling in your askbox, and i hope you have a good night!
🥰🥹😊❤️❤️
...No wait that's not Enough. Hang on.
There we go, that's a pretty good representation of my emotions rn.
So it turns out you can't actually put a readmore in an ask, but I'm gonna put one before my answer because otherwise oh boy this post is gonna get long.
So many questions!! A lot of them will get answered in the text ("what happened to the queen?" well I'm glad you asked—) but as for the ones that probably won't (or, if they do come up, won't be super plot-relevant or that important so I can answer):
The Egg is basically where the aliens are "born"; it's near a black hole, it's got some natural tunguskite reserves, and it's basically hollow save for the pulsing mass of the hivemind. It's also, y'know. A moon. It's orbiting some sort of planet somewhere. (Probably actually the planet the Hermethius was returning from, now that I think about it.)
"What the fuck is Etho?" I'll do you one better: why the fuck is Etho? (Okay, but actually: Etho was a mortal mage, and is now an immortal... something. He's not quite a god on the same level that Bdubs is, but he's more than just a regular [redacted] like [redacted] or [redacted].)
The demons thing: Etho is a person who attempts to explain magic with science, and Pearl is a person who attempts to explain science with magic. Generally, Etho's definition of "demon" (person who can do magic without blood) and most mages' definitions of "demon" (in this case, as a synonym for the Reds) don't overlap, except for when they do (for example, in the case of New Tenacity, [redacted], or [redacted]). Fun fact: False generally uses Pearl's definition of "demon" to refer to the aliens (or any other sort of person-who-isn't-a-person, like Hels) rather than Etho's, since her whole thing is being a "demon hunter." If she were using Etho's definition, that would technically make her a demon herself. (Essentially: "demon" is a catch-all word magical people use for "thing/being I don't understand." It has a lot of uses and now that I think about it that's probably kind of confusing, oops.)
And then to address some of the other comments:
I have genuinely had so much fun setting up all the dominoes in this story and I am just as excited to watch them fall as you all are. Honestly, the set-up I've done for LLAU is some of my favourite technical writing of mine ever, in the sense of narrative construction and structure. This was also a pretty good time for a reread, because in a few chapters we're going to get to a scene in which a LOT of this stuff's gonna pay off. (I don't know how many chapters because every time we get close I have to revise my mental outline and add another chapter for pacing purposes but we're So Close we're closer than we've ever been I've been excited about this plot point for FOREVER.)
Honestly, I think a lot of the coolness of the worldbuilding and story construction here comes from the original source material, i.e. the Lifeline games. The Lifeline series consists of like 8(?) games, all of differing genres and with mostly different casts, and over the course of the games more and more of its central worldbuilding is revealed and builds up into the metaplot, which is of course the aliens' attempt to take over the Earth. However, Lifeline got discontinued before it could conclude, and many of its mysteries will remain mysteries (even the one game that came out post-discontinuation, Beside You In Time, doesn't seem to answer any of the questions from what little I've played of it). Because of this, it meant I got to take the pieces I'd been given, throw out what I didn't like, add in new things that I did, and tie it all together to make sense. (There's definitely some Early Installment Weirdness in the series because of this, because I started writing this AU on a whim and it took me a While to nail down the specifics of the magic system, how the aliens work, etc.)
For an example of this: "magic is a lie" is a line that reoccurs throughout the games and is Never explained. It's vaguely implied that magic actually has something to do with tunguskite, so my solution to this is that the energy tunguskite emits is what mages call "magic." So mages have tunguskite in their blood. It's like microplastics! But probably significantly more cool.
And then there's the way it incorporates the Hermitcraft lore and characters—Bdubs' whole thing was my attempt to fuse together two different characters from the original games, because Bdubs Had to be both Captain Aya and Clepsydra, and how could I explain him both being in space and an ancient time monk at the same time? And The Bdubs Thing is one of my favourite parts of this AU because the way those two things came together is just so delightfully weird. Constructing this story and its world has honestly been such a blast, I don't think I've ever enjoyed the experience of writing a fic this much.
(When the story is done I might potentially write a post explaining how I took the Lifeline game lore and changed it to work for this fic, because right now some of that stuff is spoilers but I think it's a very fun topic and would love to do a deeper dive into it.)
Anyway, enough of me rambling, thank you so much for this ask!!! It honestly made my day lol. (Also this fic is very much a passion project and definitely the most self-indulgent thing I've ever written so I'm always delighted whenever I get the chance to ramble about it and my writing process.) I should probably go get working on the next chapter instead of procrastinating by answering this ask. (In my defence, Grian and Joe are causing me anguish. Send help.)

Uhh if you’re still up for asks, ramble about trans!Ruby? 👀
Alright!
So I have been thinking of writing trans!Ruby into a fic but the fic wont be about being trans since that I feel would require experiences I do not have. So in essence Ruby's 'transness' is that a word? Is not integral to the plot. But then you have the argument for if whether that is good rep or bad rep. Then again I feel like that is a subjective thing. Some people want issues faced by people of their sexuality addressed in media and others want escapism but still representation. I feel like I'm going much too deep into this. But I do feel like I would tend to the latter. So while I would delve into some unique experiences it won't necessarily go super deep into it like reasons mentioned beforehand. Now that I think about it. All my fics are just stories with gay characters 'being' gay is not the plot its fulfilling a mission or going on a date or finding this person. It all feels like it fits in neatly.
But when I think of doing this approach with a trans charater to me it feels like being lazy. Like if I don't address the struggles they face, I don't understand or respect the trans community and that because of that, I should rather not write trans charaters. And I have no idea why that is. I suppose it is because people are so afraid of being called offensive or ignorant that they would rather not try to portray other people's experiences, even if it is in an attempt to understand a certain community or just to put yourself in another person's shoes.
I don't have this problem writing lesbain characters for instance because I identify as such so I am comfortable writing such even if I know that not all lesbians won't like my fic. So why is the thought of writing a trans character that a trans person don't like, a thousand times more terrifying?
And now I realise I am backtracking and going in circles but now that I think about it, I would rather touch on the personal struggles as related to trans!Ruby's sexuality, partly because I feel like that would inform me better as a person and that I could also understand these problems better. Not to trivialize any such situation, but putting your chaters in though spots that you haven't been in and seeing how that turns out is one of the joys of writing.
Again I'm not even sure if this is going anywhere, then again it's a ramble, but I suppose the fear of writing a trans character wrongly, has put me off attepting. Which I think is a shame.
I guess you could call them headcanons but I think Ruby would know that she is a girl pretty early on. Still tomboyish and nerdy but wanting to be a Huntress. And I can't see Tai and Yang being anything but supportive as Ruby gets more vocal about her presentation and transition.
But then you have the writer side of me that goes mmmmnnn this is all good, but where is the sakes? The drama?
Bullies are always a thing, but I don't enjoy writing characters getting bullies over their gender identity or sexuality since the latter I have dealt with passively far too much in my life. Also in could just go, that's just backstory, the real goal is making sure Ruby's new bakery is a success when she has new competition right across the street. Naturally my brain goes, okay but how do I include this information in a way that fits in well?
As you can see, I have a lot of thougts regarding this and really I should just ask some of the trans folks on Tumblr. But until then you are more than welcome to share your thougts.
I hope that ramble was legible XD
#rwby#ruby rose#asks#replies#thanks for the ask!#ive been wanting to get this off my chest for awhile

Russian Roulette - Pt. 6
In this series, you will find: Alternative Universe, Soulmate plot, Angst, Fluff. In this chapter, you will find: Scott tells you Derek is missing, right on the night you got a nightmare with him. Then, Peter came to your bedroom trying to find out where his nephew is. Word count: 1.496 Pairings: Reader x Alpha!Peter Hale Original characters of this chapter: Sebastian, your host dad, and boss. Warnings: English is not my main language <3 Yeah, it was based on Russian Roulette by Rihanna Russian Roulette series: Chapter Five | Chapter 7 RUSSIAN ROULETTE MASTERLIST TEEN WOLF MASTERLIST
You took Derek to your bedroom and take care of his injuries. The girls were already sleeping as soon as Bennie and Sebastian. Both of you had spent part of the night talking about all the situation, and you finally found out how Scott became a werewolf. But then, Derek leaves, saying that he needs to hide, and you fell asleep.
But that night, you had a weird and terrifying dream.
You were trapped. You had chains on your wrist, and you were trapped in some kind of basement. A door opens, and a blond woman got in. And when she put a light over your face, you saw a scared Allison looking at you.
Then, you realized that you aren't trapped there. Derek was the real prisoner of that scene. You were just watching things from his perspective.
Sweating as hell, you woke up scared. When you met Derek that day in the car accident, the weird lady came to you. Then, when both of you come to the hospital, you suddenly had learned how to fight. And now after taking care of his injuries and chat with him through the night, you had a nightmare with him.
Always when you see him, something weird happens to you. Is that something common when you deal with werewolves?
You stand up from your bed, ready for another day of work. You go to your bathroom and take your clothes off, ready for a relaxing bath because, God, you need it already. When you turn your back, you remember about your mark.
You put your hair up and go to the large mirror close to you. The red lines in your spine, now, are black, just like a tattoo. The quote "Ad Lunae Lumina" is legible than ever. And you have no idea of how it happened.
With your thoughts a complete mess, you finish your bath, put on your clothes, and give the girl's breakfast. Then, Sebastian entered the house with a box. You gave him a smile.
"Morning, Bash."
"Morning, super Au pair." He gave you a weak smile, and you look at him. Something is wrong. "I need to talk with you. Can we go to the living room?"
"Sure."
You gave a smile to the girls and follow Sebastian to the living room. He put the box on the floor.
"Look, (Y/N)..." He says, letting out a long sigh "I know you did a new friend. Haytham, am I right? You said he's an old and lonely man, so you were doing some company on him."
"Yeah," You said, knowing there's something wrong "What's happened with him?"
"A woman found him dead this morning. Animal attack, you know. Or just a Derek Hale thing. Me and Sheriff Stilinski still don't know why he does all of this seems like an animal attack, but we're working on it."
Your heart failed a beat for one instant. Oh, god. That was how Peter escaped from your bullet: He killed Haytham to stole the bullets as a way to heal himself.
"But, look" He opened the box and, there, he takes an envelope "He left you this letter and some books. I'm sorry for your loss. Do you need time to absorb this?"
Still shocked, you shook your head.
"No, no, I'm fine. I'm just... in shock. I really don't saw this coming."
"Okay. Let me know if you need a break, okay?"
You nod positively for him.
"Thank you, Bash."
Sebastian walks to the kitchen to talk with Sarah and Nat, and you open the envelope Haytham let you:
"Dear (Y/N),
I know I haven't finished my job with you, but I'll let those books and the name of someone who can help you. You'll find him at the Animal Clinic of Beacon Hills. His name is Deaton, you can trust him.
Sincerely,
Haytham."
You let out a long sigh. God, you were so fucked up.
.
You had just put the kids to bed and, gosh, you were so tired! When you took your phone, you saw a message from Scott.
"Hi. Be careful. Derek's on Peter's side. I saw them together. Also, Derek just simply disappeared. Be careful if he appears to you, okay? Call me if you need any help."
You narrow your eyes. Is Derek on Peter's side? Damn. Seems like thing is getting worse and worse. Well, during the circumstances, you think you should sleep with your silver dagger under your pillow.
You take your clothes off and take the second bath of the day, this one because you really need to relax your body. You put on your pajamas, and when you leave your bathroom, you almost got a heart attack: Peter was in your bedroom, with crossed arms. He is clearly waiting for you.
"Oh, good night, (Y/N)." He looks at you, even with some lust in his eyes. "It's a really tiny pajama. Matches perfectly with your... perfect skin."
His comment gave shivers to you. The last thing you need now is a psycho werewolf hitting on you.
"Sorry, but you aren't my type."
"Unfortunately." Peter give some steps forward, getting close to you. "But I'm pretty sure Derek is your type, so... I'll ask politely: Where is him?"
Yeah, he definitely was your type, but this isn't on discussion right now. You arch your eyebrows, pretty confused about the question.
"Why do you think I know it?"
"Because I felt your scent the last time I saw him. So, answer me."
"Of course, you felt my scent on him. He was here last night. I took care of his injuries."
"And you don't know where he is?"
"No."
Peter put his claws out and slides them by your skin with his eyes red as blood. His actions were a warning.
"You spend the night together, and you really think I'll believe that shit? Answer me: Where is him?"
A shiver of fear runs through your body, and your heart was punching inside your chest. God.
"Say it," Peter says, with a low and threatening voice "Or believe me, I'll love to rip Bennie's pretty neck."
"Derek just said that he needed to hide, and then he leaves. I don't know where he is, I swear!"
Then, your mind had a click. Maybe you knew where he is.
"What?" Peter looks at you, knowing you thought about something.
"You'll think I'm crazy, but I don't care. I had a dream with Derek."
"Oh, God." Peter rolled his eyes, turning his back for you, and moving away from you "I don't have time for your sexual dreams."
"He was locked, with chains on his wrists, and I saw a blonde woman. I had the feeling that she was showing Derek to Allison."
When Peter heard you, he stops to walk and turns to glares at you.
"Go on."
"I had the impression that he was in a basement."
Peter approaches you again.
"And what your feelings say about the place? Do you think you can say a place he is right now?"
"I don't know."
"No, I'm serious. Try to concentrate on yourself."
You are feeling ridiculous talking about a dream with a man who is threatening you with death. However, you lock those feelings somewhere in your heart and just act instinctively: You close your eyes and takes a deep breath. Suddenly, you feel a cold breeze on your skin and whispers in your ears - those who you just simply can't understand so well, but you are pretty sure those whispers are carrying you somewhere. Then, you felt: It was him. Somehow, you are feeling Derek. You feel his warmth, his presence, his smells. It's just like he is close to you.
You also felt he had a familiarity with the place he is right now. And you open your eyes.
"So?" Peter was looking at you, full of expectations. Your heart was beating fast as hell. You haven't even known you could do that thing! Maybe all of that was possible because of the mark you have on your back...
"I think he's on his old house... The one who was on fire."
"Wow..." Peter was looking at you completely fascinated "I had never seen one of you before."
You cringe.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"You have a mark on your back, Am I right? Just like a tattoo, who says..."
"Ad Lunae Lumina. Yeah, I know. But I don't know anything about it. I'm trying to find out."
"Let me see your arms."
You show him your arms, and Peter notices, on your forearm, a few red lines taking forms. It was another mark that was being created.
"Oh, it's pretty recent..."
You pull your arms back to you, staring at Peter with a serious face.
"Don't tell anybody."
"I won't, but... I'll need your help."
"I've already helped you."
"Not enough. Come on, put on your clothes. You'll go with me."

hi, welcome to vav’s guide on what you’ve missed on the last 2 months of mianite if you left at the end of june. PLEASE understand that i did this as legibly as i could and i’m probably missing some pieces, but the entirity of lore started to get super fucked up as time went on and it’s getting confusing even to those of us that are still on the up and up. sorry if it’s a mess!
rundown under the cut:
so: dianite is in jail. the nether update comes out, and with it, jordan and karl are sent to some kind of fortress, where they discover someone named 'gandus' is trying to overtake the nether in dianite's absence, and they were cast out of the wizard order.
later on, we find out hermod's wife is a actually a boat, jordan gets married to a boat dec builds for him, and hermod tries to steal the boat as his own wife, and when jordan kills him to keep him from doing that, hermod summons the army of the dead upon him and initiates ragnarok because he's so pissed. i wish i was joking. i am not.
in their quest to save dianite from the darkness prison, tom, karl, and jordan meet these people called the dragon architects and are told that in order to become a god, gandus needs the four elemental stones. they save dianite, and tom grabs the air stone before anyone else does- but jordan was told that ianite needed the air stone beforehand, so this is bad for him!
the next stone they come across is the fire stone, and this stream went... pretty poorly, because they set it up on minigames that they kind of put together really badly, it was a whole mess- anyways, tom gets a second stone
now! there are RULES to the stones, and the rules are that they can only be bound to mortals, and they cannot be forcibly taken. jordan needs the air stone really fucking badly for ianite, and now dianite has both, because tom gave them to him. so jordan asks dianite for something, and is given a deal. is given a contract.
and the interaction goes like this:
dianite gives jordan a book. jordan reads the book, confirms that everything is legit, and then writes his name and gives the book back. doesn't 'sign' the book to make it enchanted. dianite has the book for a little bit and then tosses it back and tells jordan to ACTUALLY sign it so it's enchanted.
jordan does so, and does so without fucking reading it.
do you see the issue here.
jordan's deal is this: he has to disguise as dianite and meet tom, and lie to him, as dianite, to get him to officially give him the stones: which jordan, somehow, successfully does! so now jordan has two stones. he gives the air stone to ianite, as she requested, and then off she goes, and off he goes.
remember how hermod called the army of the dead? yeah, so, now they're here, and they go off to face them- only to discover that it's being led by gandus!
gandus, the wizard who's trying to oppose them all- also, *she is hermod's ex-wife, and kidnaps him, and tells them that if they don't give her the stones, hermod will die. now, jordan has the real stones, but he also has fake ones! which were. given to him. by darkness clones- which was a whole thing, but unimportant to the plot. so jordan gives her fake stones and they successfully escape with hermod (even though both jordan and karl had been totally willing to let hermod die). also, tom has the water stone, so now it's jordan has two stones, tom has one.
after this, we're given a chill, solo stream, in which jordan builds a mini-house, is visited by ianite, who tells him that she's tired of being a goddess, and she just wants to chill out.
the very next stream, ianite is declared as being gone.
tom and jordan go on a quest to sort through her memories- gandus has destroyed the courthouse and is hold hermod hostage again because she obviously discovered the stones were fake. the boys have 24 hours to find the earth stone. they follow ianite's memories (and there's something about her being gone for years, which, is concerning.) and come across the tree of life, and the fucking? root of all humanity, olivanite and some other branch, idk it really starts to fucking make NO sense. whatever. the sticks are shown to be corrupted, and it turns out it's ianite's fault,
jordan gets the earth stone, tries to fake out gandus again, fails, and hermod dies. hermod dies bc of him and he's happy about it.
the specifications of dianite's contract were that jordan couldn't have more power than dianite. well, now he has three stones, which is KIND OF fucked, so dianite commands him he has to give one to karl. he says he will, and they continue on.
hermod's dead, and the truth comes out he was dec's brother and tom's uncle, which didn't make any sense, but whatever. the gods admit that ianite has been missing missing, and they don't know where she is, and that in a few weeks time there will be an olympics held in which they will use the power of the stones to turn the winning hero into a demigod in order to help. stop? gandus, idk
so the next week jordan goes on a secret mission to gandus' bases for mianite, where he discovers there's a fifth stone, the music stone. after that he, karl and tom all go to some kind of music dimension and fight gandus and jordan TECHNICALLY wins, but gandus steals the fifth stone and disappears.
in order to find out more about gandus, they go to the original wizard order with brokkr, and we learn that gandus lied about some relic of ianite to get it, and became more powerful than the rest of them, and that there were three gems of order, chaos and balance, that were stolen and taken here for. some reason. the gems are actually meant to be back in brokkr's mine, where they discover that gandus has been creating an army of hermod clones to defeat them, and they somehow fuck that up and turn the clones into like, half chickens
inbetween all of this there were some fucking MOMENTS: darkness cat showed up and the screen said 'soon,' dianite appeared in front of jordan and the screen said 'the end is near,' jordan is absolutely delighted to see hermod die and has no remorse for it, jordan lies to ianite, dianite, and basically continuously tells everyone he can do what he wants, and he CONSTANTLY gets away with. doing whatever he wants. also, for fun, the specifications of dianite’s contract with jordan:
I, CaptainSparklez, promise to not use the stones to become a god.
I promise to not use [the stones] to undermine Dianite.**
I promise to not become an agent of evil.
I also promise not to tell the Knight of Chaos, SynHD, the plan to obtain one of the stones.
so no, it’s not as bad as you would think-
EXCEPT for that second line. there was a change inbetween jordan ‘signing’ the book and then him Actually signing it-
what it became was: I promise not to undermine Dianite.
#mianite#mianitian isles#i mostly did this for topaz#but i know there are probably a couple of people who are. lost#a lot of people dropped off in june for Obvious reasons#so! here's what i have for you#captainsparklez#speaking

Conspicuous Media Consumption, 2020
it’s that time of year again! *saddest toot from the party horn*
for those of you just joining us: it’s a “consume a different content every week for 48 weeks of the year” challenge. for a longer explanation, check out last year’s write-up here, and as always, feel free to pop in and ask questions about any and all of this content.
(same disclaimer as last year too: content for this project ONLY here, and not certain...*looks at my billion Sad Cop Lady posts*...hyperfixations.)
(man remember when i was big into X-Men comics earlier this year? better times than these, if only because no one's discoursing about Emma Frost’s woobie/war criminal ratio anymore--her w/w, if you will)
(...i swear at one point i didn’t exclusively like platinum blondes but alas)
Bitter Root (comic, 1 issue finished 1/1/2020): still very cool on a basic concept level, but runs into the Image Comics problem of just not having enough content to keep my interest beyond that. part of that is on me, for picking it up again BEFORE the second arc rolled out, but the first five issues didn’t really follow (or resolve) any cohesive story either, so...meh.
Immortal Hulk (comic, 3 trades finished 1/17/2020): still not gonna be something i care deeply about (maybe one of Bruce’s Hulksonas dyed his hair???), but i do want to give kudos to Al Ewing for sheer consistency in terms of sustaining this level of quality storytelling month by month for more than two years now. working with the dense archive of the Hulk mythos and managing to make it interesting and thoughtful is impressive even if i personally would not expend the same effort.
Disco Elysium (game, finished 1/18/2020): honestly i should have twigged onto what this year was gonna be like when the third thing i drew from the barrel was pure uncut Eastern European flavored depression. i faintly recall people ragging on it for being pretentiously cynical, but i actually thought its core slid more towards idealism than people give it credit for. also gratified that i haven’t heard anything about Robert Kurvitz using slave labor to finish it, which is a thing we have to say about our video games now!!! fun.
Watchmen (TV, 7 episodes finished 1/27/2020): i am a fool who wants to believe in Damon Lindelof and I WAS RIGHT!!! honestly still cannot believe that he pulled off this highwire act with such deft aplomb. might be my favorite TV this year, which is a pretty high bar given how much TV i ended up watching.
On a Sunbeam (comic, finished 2/1/2020): Tillie Walden rightly deserves all the praise for inventive queer storytelling, but i will say that on reread--since i first read this as a webcomic--there ARE some issues with pacing here that clearly come from the foibles of its original intended medium. still just excellent, even if after some plot significant haircuts i was having trouble telling a few folks apart.
Lazarus (comic, 1 trade finished 2/8/2020): it’s so good and i want moooooorrrreee--though obviously Rucka and Lark have the right to take all the time they need. the newer longer issues work really well with the epic prestige drama vibes of the story! i’m into it.
The Good Place (TV, 4 seasons finished 2/18/2020): i’m gonna be super honest: i actually wasn’t a big fan of the finale, nor the last season as a whole. it felt like all of Eleanor’s flaws vanished for a majority of the season, and the Chidi-centric episode where they tried to give a legible justification for why he’s Like This was...i didn’t care for it. still, it’s so good and unique on the WHOLE that we’ll literally never get anything like this ever again, and that counts for a lot.
The Old Republic (game, finished 2/21/2020): it’s an MMO so it will never actually Be Finished so long as the servers aren’t shut down, but i caught up on the content i’d missed in the intervening months. Onslaught thus far has mostly been...kinda bland tbh; going back to Imps vs. Rebs after all the shakeups in the previous expansions feels like a waste.
High Road (album, finished 2/22/2020): someone should tell Kesha not to say that word!! otherwise i was very happy with this album, and happy FOR her even though we don’t know each other. being able to find joy again in the same genre of music you made while you were being horrifically exploited is very cool.
Young Justice (TV, 13 episodes finished 2/28/2020): given how much the middle stuff dragged--STOP KILLING YOUR HIJABI CHARACTER IN HORRIFIC WAYS--i was...actually kinda mad by how the end managed to stick the landing anyway. the day being saved by Vic’s self-acceptance and Violet’s sublime compassion was A+, and even the Brion/Tara switchup was a pleasant surprise, though it relied on me caring about Brion MUCH MORE than i actually did.
Manic (album, finished 2/29/2020): do people still care for/about Halsey? i feel like even That One Song that was on every tumblr gifset ever has kinda faded into obscurity at this point. this album was...okay. i feel like people give Halsey a pass for extremely obvious lyrical turns that they wouldn’t for other folks because of her subject material--which is fine. not really my cup of tea, but i also listened to lots of Relient K this year, so that’s probably a good thing.
Jade Empire (game, 3/10/2020): the only 3D-era Bioware game that didn’t franchise out, and for good fucking reason!!! the Orientalism and appropriation really haven’t aged well, and even beyond that the story was...standard Bioware faire. even my usual “my wife’s a bitch i love her” Bioware type didn’t do it for me, and i just ended up romancing no one. it did make me think a lot about what level of cultural borrowing is accepted nowadays, and why: people still look fondly at Avatar and talk about how ~accurate and respectful it was, for example, despite it being staffed almost entirely by white folks, and the Orientalism ALL OVER the monk class in DND is still fine for some reason.
Alif the Unseen (book, finished 3/31/2020): interesting to have read this AFTER reading The Bird King last year, because it highlights how the intervening years have shifted G. Willow Wilson’s thematic interest and improved her craft. i’m actually quite fond of how her characterization work is rougher here--Alif is extremely flawed to the point of being insufferable, but it makes his development by the end more satisfying. Dina is also just good and i love her
Baldur’s Gate (2 games, finished 5/31/2020): well, having finally finished the series i’m happy to say that it...still doesn’t really do it for me, sorry. any awesome story moments were overshadowed by the EXCRUCIATING inventory management system and the combat (i still don’t know what a THAC0 is and at this point i’m afraid to find out). these games crucially lack the Home Base that later Bioware games were so good about, and that (coupled with the huge cast of characters you can drop off and never see again) really hurts the intimacy for me. by the time we finally did get one it was the Hell Dimension in Throne of Bhaal, and i was just...trying to get through it. (yes, i did just say that about one of the most beloved expansions ever to one of the most beloved games ever.) THIS particular iteration of “my wife’s a bitch i love her” was very good, but the game wouldn’t let me romance her :(
The Underground Railroad (book, finished 6/19/2020): honestly what is there even left to say at this point! it was exactly as good as every critic on the planet said it was, even with my usual aversion to hype. draining and horrifying in turns but still insistent upon a future for Black folks.
Steven Universe (6 seasons and a mooooooviiieeee, finished 7/11/2020): yes, i DID finish the show and almost immediately begin a rewatch. this series is now one of my top five most formative things, and the amount of love and respect i have for it is incalculable. that said: i once again did not love how the central conflict of Future was resolved (just the resolution--i loved the finale just fine). for all of Steven’s breakdown was built up, resolving it with “EVERYONE HUG HIM UNTIL HE CRIES” felt...cheap, especially since up until this point the show had been so good about treating trauma and mental illness with the respect and nuance it deserves. it made me wish some of the earlier, less substantial episodes had been cut so we could spend more time at the end.
What It Is (comic, finished 8/19/2020): y’all i love Lynda Barry SO MUCH. for the longest time i was worried that One Hundred Demons was more a lightning in a bottle situation but every book of hers i pick up makes me feel obscure emotions i didn’t even realize existed. the compassionate way she’s able to describe her child self and how weird and fucked up she was (and still is) is honestly aspirational.
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (TV, 5 seasons finished 9/26/2020): so here’s a reversal of what i’ve been complaining about with other shows: i was mostly lukewarm-to-warm about She-Ra, but the later seasons and the finale made me much more into it as a whole. more shows should improve in stakes and overall quality as they age tbh!! i still don’t actively love Catradora (my sole quibble with season 5 actually has to do with the way Adora kept backsliding as a character to make certain Plot/Relationship things happen), but i’m very happy for them nonetheless. i can certainly appreciate a show that will go for High Feeling over tight plot. dark horse standout moments: trees growing everywhere proving that Perfuma Was Right, and Hordak and Adora seeing each other--that weirdly intimate moment of recognition.
Fetch the Bolt Cutters (album, finished 10/7/2020): again i find myself not having much to say that no one else has said. it’s good! once again love it when an artist reclaims something they’d attached with negative affect (anxiety, depression, disordered eating) for better and brighter things.
Solutions and Other Problems (comic, finished 10/25/2020): i was very into Allie Brosh’s ambition with this book, which feels weird to say but i stand by it. it’s cool to see an artist try to make a new medium work for them instead of just sticking to what already works. not all the experimentation was 100% effective, but it was still delightful and occasionally devastating to read, so.
Legend of Zelda (3 games: Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, Link Between Worlds, finished 11/1/2020): this was the third time i’d played Ocarina of Time, which made it the nice, comforting groove i settled into before Majora’s Mask blatted me in the face. i’m not usually a completionist Zelda person because...the gameplay in Zelda is bad, do not at me it just is, but i really felt like i HAD to be one for Majora’s Mask since the whole point is to get attached to the banalities of the town. i’m sure nobody’s surprised that i loved it, even if it gave me an existential crisis about how life goes on in the game for NPCs when you’re not there to save them from it, and there’s not enough time to save them all all the time (also not a surprise to anyone: Romani and Cremia gave Personal Feelings). Link Between Worlds...bad. not like in a “this is a bad story by every measurable gauge” way, but i was already struggling with the 2D playstyle shift enough that for the whole story to end with some “yes it’s v sad that Lorule is Like This but trying to steal Hyrule’s privilege is Even Worse Actually” noblesse oblige bullshit left a VERY poor taste in my mouth, this year of all years. i did audibly gasp when Ravio took off his mask, though. i’m currently playing Breath of the Wild in cautious increments; it’s the first time i’ve enjoyed early Zelda gameplay, but if they wanted fully voiced cutscenes i wish they got voice actors who...knew what words sound like.
folklore (album, finished 11/6/2020): my belief that Taylor Swift is Just Fine continues, i’m afraid. i LIKED this album, don’t get me wrong, and respect her constant drive to innovate, but i didn’t love it substantially more or less than any other Taylor Swift album. mostly i’m just tickled by how she thinks leaning into the indie aesthetic means borrowing Vita Sackville-West’s entire wardrobe, though i will admit to feeling Something when she swore in a song. i think it was like. savage vindication?? you go ahead and swear, Taylor Swift. you deserve it.
Shore (album, finished 11/19/2020): do people still care about the Fleet Foxes? i think there was some Drama with Josh Tillman a while back but i don’t remember where the discourse landed with who was being more problematic. it was nostalgic for me to listen to their new album--made me remember being an undergrad who exclusively listened to men who mumbled and played acoustic guitar all over again.
Star Wars (3 movies: original trilogy, finished 11/27/2020): there is So Much bad Star Wars these days that every time i rewatch the original trilogy i’m afraid that they will suddenly be bad, but guess what! they’re not. i love these children and their hot mess stories, i love that Lando doesn’t know how to say his best friend’s name. what stood out to me this time was the way Obi-Wan described the Force in A New Hope, which strongly implied that ANYONE can be Force Sensitive; that obviously faded with each subsequent movie, but part of me does wish they’d kept it.
X of Swords (comics, 22 issues finished 12/5/2020): i am enjoying Hickman’s X-lines!!! not so much here for the Grand Conspiracy or whatever, but the character work and highkey weirdness is fabulous--they FEEL like X-Men, despite all the shakeups in-universe. this crossover is a nice microcosm of all that: grandiloquently all over the place, but still full of cool standout moments and genuine hilarity. ILLYANA DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO SPELL MAGIC.
Fire Emblem (4 games: Sacred Stones, Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn, Awakening, finished 12/14/2020): this was the thing that i was closest to giving up early on, but i ended up hyperfixating on it instead. that’s a credit to what the gameplay does to my lizard brain more than anything else, because the story and character writing is...insipid. it was very bizarre to witness this franchise blunder around with its animal-people racism allegory around the same time i was getting back into RWBY, and ITS animal-people racism allegory blunders. Awakening was the first time i felt anything for the franchise beyond “teehee red units disappear make exp bar go up and brain go ding,” so i’m excited for more mature storytelling in subsequent games (they MUST get better. they MUST). the child husbandry thing is...very bad tho, and Apotheosis being “challenging” entirely through the game changing all the rules is also bad.
once again no vidya games that came out this year--i’ll probably pick up Spiritfarer or Hades after the New Year, though (or maybe TLOU II! but probably not. sry Laura and Ashley). more TV and franchises this year, which made me feel In Touch with the Children but was also kinda exhausting. nothing was so egregiously terrible i dropped it without finishing! in a year like this that feels almost like an accomplishment

Roleplay Resubmit
I’m resubmitting because I didn’t put in a way to contact before!
Hello, fellow humans! My name is Alex. =)
I am a human just like you are. I drive a car, and have a job. I’m certainly not a rabbit controlling a person, shaped robot. Does anyone have a carrot?
Have you ever pondered the purpose of life? Well wait no more, for I have found it! I mean my purpose, not yours. I was put on this to dance!…Well that, and also role play sometimes.
Below I will use words, and form them into sentences that will make just enough sense to be considered legible.
Rules, and also Getting Along;
1. I don’t take well to flirting. I mean at all. I don’t like people writing with a bunch of winky faces. I don’t do pictures. I don’t do anything personal really. I have no interest in you as anything more than a friend to RP with. I have been sent unsolicited pictures before, and my reaction was not a happy one.
2. Please don’t ask me questions in a world where I don’t need to have an answer. It’s like if we’re doing a superhero RP, and my OC can fly but doesn’t have wings…it’s a “Plot Device” there is no explanation. I’ve never understood why some partners I get think everything has to be scientifically explained, especially in worlds that clearly don’t care about it.
3. I am primarily a “Doubles” roleplayer. This means you play my crush, and I’ll play yours.
4. Smut isn’t important to me, so we can do it on your side, and if it comes up on mine that’s fine, and if it doesn’t that’s fine too. I’m also saying I’m 18+
5. Please share your limits with me. This isn’t just about smut either, some limits have nothing to do with sex.For example maybe you’re against extreme violence?
6. I’m not perfect, but I am working on being better. Part of my New Year’s resolution has been overcoming a character flaw of my own. If I have done something to upset you, tell me. Please don’t bite my head off and act like I’m some huge meanie. Just tell me in a straight manner, and I’ll work on being better.
7. I hope you like to chat in OOC, because I love talking! I have a lot to say actually.
8. I don’t believe in grudges, so if we’ve met before you can contact again.
9. I’m not a novel writer. For me I can reach word counts of about 400 to 500 per side, but if you’re looking for someone that does like 2,000+ word replies, I’m probably not for you. That said the lowest I seem to be able to tolerate is about 300 words per side. I mean no offense but if you write less than that, I just won’t be able to keep up my interest.
10. My primary thing is creating an Original Character, but roleplaying in an established world. Stuff like; “Here’s my OC for Marvel”
11. Please understand that I am open to originals…I mean full original worlds, they just aren’t really what I want. I’ve posted ads before where I’ve listed off tons of fandoms, and everyone contacted me for an original. I’ll be honest it kind of peeved me a little bit. I thought about just quitting originals all together, but that sounds mean of me. So I’m open to originals, but GREATLY prefer a fandom setting.
12. I am open to all pairing, and character types.
Roleplay List;
1.My Hero Academy
2. Marvel regardless of if you know the movies, or the comics, or even the cartoons.
3. DC mostly for the animated stuff like Young Justice, and the DCAU continuity.
4. Resident Evil the games
5. Life is Strange
6. Halo games
7. Mass Effect games
8. One Piece
9. Dragonball series, most likely Z, Xenoverse, and Super
10. Danganronpa I know 1, 2, and V3
11. Wolf’s Rain
12. Cowboy Bebop
13. Man of Action Multiverse - Ben 10/Generator Rex
14. Hellsing
15. Ouran High School Host Club
16. Pokemon mostly the anime, but game wise I’ve done the originals red/blue/yellow, gold/silver and then I just stopped playing for a while, and didn’t play again until Black/White, Black/White 2, X/Y, and Sun/Moon
17. The Evil Within games
18. Death Note
Final Thing - I’m a guy. I could have put this right in my opening, but it was planned to put it down here. See if I say “I’m a guy” at the top, the immediate response is to be turned off. I’ve seen enough posts where guys only want to RP with girls because “sex” and girls don’t want to RP with guys because “creepy pervert”
I believe I’ve established that I’m not some pervert. I CLEARLY stated I don’t do personal stuff, and that I’m really not even into smut. Oh, and by the way those unsolicited pictures I received…they were from a woman. I told her very clearly to delete them, and never send any such thing ever again.
Anyway, you can contact me at [email protected]

We’ll Go Together - Chapter 9
Hello again!!
This chapter is super, super heavy on information, but I promise the next one won’t be as much. I’m trying to work out a healthy balance of plot progression vs character progression, which is proving to be a little more difficult than anticipated. Nonetheless, this chapter makes me really happy.
Enjoy!
Chapter 1
Can you save me now?
When the ground drops out
I get lost in the clouds
Save me now
You were my gravity
Rhys knows something is different the moment they enter the hospital room.
Well, mostly because it’s to Nesta and Cassian aggressively making out.
His mate immediately squeaks and turns into him, covering her eyes. It’s adorable, incredibly different from what she’d usually do. It feels strange making a quip without her.
Good to see you awake, Nesta.” He drawls, flicking up an eyebrow.
She leans back, though stays in her spot draped over Cassian’s legs. “So you’re Rhysand.” The words are bored, monotone, and yet still manage to be condescending. They hold none of the resentful respect she once had for him.
Not for the first time he wishes he had his daemati powers back.
Cassian wisely chooses to keep his mouth shut, though by the tightening of his mouth Rhys can tell that he wants to speak up. But he knows better; he’s ready to let Hurricane Nesta run its course.
“I am,” He responds simply.
This is a different Nesta, he has to remind himself. All of them are different, reverted back to who they were before the war. Nesta hasn’t changed yet. She is still bitter and cruel to anyone who she doesn’t care for, still scorned by whatever crucible she’s faced in this life. The only difference in this life is that she cares about Cassian.
It’s strange, to see that fire they’ve both tried to smother burning so brightly.
She opens her mouth to speak what he knows will be a biting insult only for the door to burst open, interrupting her.
It’s Elain.
And Azriel.
He blinks twice, wondering if he’s hallucinating that they’ve arrived—together.
Immediately his mind jumps forward to his cousin, and what could have possibly been destined to happen to that five century old fiasco. Almost as quickly he reels back, contemplating that the two of them have become friends.
It’s a very real possibility, given the fact that the two had quickly developed a quiet, steady friendship based in some sameness that they’d found in one another.
Then he spots the ring on her finger, and decidedly gives up.
The middle sister starts to run towards her sister, only to stop as she realizes that Nesta is draped over someone’s lap. Rhys almost laughs at the shocked expression on Elain’s face, if not for the sharp jab in the side from his mate. It’s something he would’ve never expected from the changed Feyre, and he finds himself distracted, staring at her with a delighted expression.
The disapproving look she gives leaves him breathless. His grin only widens when she shakes her head and turns her attention back to the scene before them, a flush to her cheeks that most definitely had not been there before.
His mate is absolutely precious.
He’s pulled from his thoughts as Az calls his name, though it’s laced with utter confusion and disbelief. Rhys knows what’s about to happen. Cass had given him the same look the first time they’d met.
At least he hadn’t been pinned against a wall this time.
He tenses at the sound of approaching heels, the door opening soon after.
It seemed that Nesta’s hospital room had become the new conference room, based on the sheer number of people they’d packed into it. The eldest Archeron only looks annoyed, having finally climbed off Cassian’s lap—though whether the annoyance was at the sudden increase of population or that her time with his brother has been interrupted, Rhys doesn’t know. Both seem equally plausible.
The thought process is quickly swept away when Amren strolls into the room, silver eyes boredly and yet scrutinizingly roaming over all six of them in the room. Once upon a time he would’ve been apprehensive, but now he knows that it’s just Amren. She wouldn’t bite. She even liked Nesta, for Mother’s sake.
They all seem to pass her test when her gaze becomes intense, focused rather than splicing. It seems she already has everyone figured out, and for that he’s glad.
In Prythian he might’ve been the most powerful male in existence. Here, he’s powerless—at least in all the ways that truly count. Here, he has no foothold, no basis in how the world works. He’s seen glimpses from the short time he’s spent there, but not enough.
Amren has been waiting for twenty years. Preparing and planning.
She nods at him and gestures towards the door. The backs of his fingers skim across Feyre’s as he leaves the room, temporarily filling the ache inside his heart.
A conversation starts up when he shuts the door behind him. He follows Amren into an empty room across the hall where—for the first time—there are no staff in the hall. He’d be more surprised if Amren hadn’t been the cause of that “coincidence.”
He shuts the door behind her at yet another motion as a map he doesn’t recognize rolls out on the empty linoleum tiles, old and heavily marked. There are countless silvery marks and smears of pen ink littered across it. Six marks stand out in bright red, littered across the the separate continents. The handwriting varies from small and neat to large and messy; from legible to not. It’s an utter mess, and the opposite of what he’s learned to expect from his Second.
It’s only proof of the direness of their situation.
She circles the map once before speaking, “These are the approximate locations of the six pieces of the Cauldron—the feet and the remnants of the base.” She places the red heeled toe of her black pumps on a different mark as she lists off locations he doesn’t recognize. “New York City, the Brazilian rainforest, London, Moscow, rural Thailand, and southern Egypt.”
The fact that the pieces are in this world is news to him, but he simply files the information away for later digestion. He’s sure there’s some sort of magic that’s brought the pieces here, and he’s sure that same magic brought them there as well. It’s easy to chalk up all of the weird coincidences to magic, too easy in fact. Amren had said that Helion had casted a spell—they needed to figure out which one it was and what it had done.
“I’ve been corresponding with Varian throughout the years. It’s possible to send a message through the rip we tore when we came through, though spotty and unreliant. I haven’t been able to get one through since you entered this plane.”
He crosses his arms and takes two steps closer to the map, “I’m not familiar with… this.” He’s ashamed to admit it, that most of the knowledge he possesses has become useless in this new world. He knows that his friends, his family, will help him, but the feeling of uselessness will follow him from here back into Prythian.
“This the world we’re in now. We’re currently here—” She places her foot on an unmarked spot northwest of New York City, “—in the rich sector of the Twin Cities. New York is roughly a four hour flight by plane. Things go well, this’ll take no more than a month in all.”
“Things never go well.” He adds, tone neutral and unbiased.
“‘Anything that can go wrong will go wrong,’” She agrees. “It’s an epigram from this world. I find it awfully accurate.”
He simply turns his attention back to the map. “Explain these places to me.”
This time she points rather than steps, “New York is considered one of the most influential cities in the world. It’s entirely too busy and rich. The Brazilian rainforest is hot and muggy and wet. London is small, but not too receptive to foreigners. Moscow won’t like you nor the other bats very much. Rural Thailand is full of fields and people who also don’t like foreigners. Southern Egypt is all sand and wind and heat.”
He sighs, “So they’re all in the worst possible spots.”
“Could be worse,” She dismisses him, “could be in North Korea or China. Or Australia,” The silver-eyed woman makes a face. “I’m not a fan.”
He takes her opinion in stride and crosses his arms, “What’s the plan?”
“Before any of us can do anything, your precious mate and her sisters have to retrieve their powers, or at least their memories. I can’t pinpoint the pieces on my own, and they’re useless without the Book.”
He tenses, thinking about the nightmares Feyre has been having as a cause of her recollection. “Will tracking the book be the same here?” He inquired, knowing that the answer would likely be a flat no.
“Unlikely. I doubt there’s any imprint of Tarquin left on it thanks to the fact that the wards had been placed over twenty years ago. He’d have to be the one to track it.”
“Then how do we get the book?”
“When your mate attempted to use it in Hybern, she left her own imprint. She has to track down herself.”
“And after that?”
“We split up and track the pieces down,” She states simply. “First, we need to get your cousin down here. Steal your girlfriend’s phone and call her if you must.”
He raises an eyebrow, “Girlfriend?”
“You’re so culturally ignorant,” She mumbles in annoyance, though he knows it’s feigned based on the small, amused quirk of her mouth. “Be careful what you say around the humans. Getting locked in an insane asylum would be disadvantageous.”
He dutifully nods, skipping over the reference. He can use context clues—he’s sure that an insane asylum is not somewhere he wants to find himself wound up in, whatever it is.
“How does magic work here?” He asks, both needing and dreading the answer.
“Not well. Whatever enables it in Prythian is not apparent here. Only what leaks through the rip, which is limited, permits it. The longer we stay here, the more likely the humans will discover it as well. They’re surprisingly competent. I give it six months before they notice something is different.”
He sighs, shoulders tensing. “Essentially, we’re on a clock with minimal progress.”
She nods, “Essentially.”
He waves his hand and the map rolls itself into an imperfect, crooked cylinder. His control is still shaky when it comes to anything besides night. He doesn’t trust himself to send it away to the hotel room—not when it’s so essential to what they’re doing. He’s thankful when Amren sends it away without being asked, saving him the embarrassment.
His first task was reacquainting himself with his powers at their diluted level. It seemed that included the complete absence of his daemati set, though the full might of his night manipulation. He’d work around it. He’d have to.
Amren leaves the empty room and he quickly follows, walking straight across the hall to Nesta’s room. He opens the door and walks in, noting the newly darkened expression on Az’s face and the relieved one on Elain’s.
His mate beckons him over and tugs him down to speak in his ear, so strange compared to the silent bond they’d always used. “They all know. They’ve been having dreams and visions too.”
The information is new but unsurprising. “Call Mor later and have her fly out.” Feyre simply nods and turns back to the conversation, effortlessly jumping back in.
They’re talking about the experiences of their remixed lives, a discussion he can’t join. Cass has served in the Air Force and Az has become a private investigator, both of which make him want to laugh. He doesn’t need to know the specifics of the jobs to know that they fit his brothers perfectly. Their lives had somehow been impeccably translated into this new one, which makes him both glad and grateful.
Even then, he doesn’t miss the looks of grief from both of them whenever they glance his way. They’ve already learned that of his Inner Circle all of them have known some other version of him, entirely the same and yet not similar at all.
A phone buzzes and Az pulls one out of his back pocket, scrolling upward once. He speaks without looking up, though it’s obviously directed at Elain, “I have to call Rhiannon.”
The name resonates through Rhys and he stops cold. A cacophony of memories he’d long buried assault him, leaving that gaping pit of failure more present than ever. He hasn’t heard her name in centuries. The three syllables ring through his ears and bones and reverb through his blood.
He blinks and their heads are in boxes, sent down the river for him to find. He blinks and their wings are hanging in the study, the veins once orange and red now void of color. He blinks and he’s standing in a hall, staring Tamlin in the face as the power transfers to them. He blinks and Feyre’s standing in front of him, close enough he can count her freckles.
There’s thirty-seven of them. He’s already done it before.
He can hear the faint sounds of Nesta and Elain catching up to their side, but he’s too busy staring at her doe eyes and look of concern, cataloguing the softness that doesn’t often appear. She’s not yet hardened by the circumstances she’d been suffocated under in Prythian, but she’s not quite carefree either. She’s so much lighter in this world, but not to the point where she blinds him.
Or maybe he’s just thinking up silly metaphors to compensate for the fact that this isn’t his Feyre.
“Where’d you go?” She asks him quietly, having turned him away from where Cassian is reintroducing himself to Elain.
The words are almost ashamed. “I didn’t realize Rhiannon was alive here.”
He’s not sure she remembers until the recognition and pain flashes across her face. She hesitantly reaches up and places her hands on his forearms with the lightest touch, his own staying where they are, loosely hanging at his side.
He’s as surprised as he is not by the realization that skips along her features. “Rhys, your sister is alive in some capacity here.” She emphasizes the word, “You could see her again.”
He shakes his head, “It would only make it worse. After all these years I’ve come to terms with it. Seeing her again isn’t worth it unless it’s permanent.”
She simply nods in concession, understanding radiating through the small fragments left of their bond. He clings onto those pieces, the only part of them that’s transferred through to this new world besides his mother’s ring, which still sits on the chain circling her neck.
He almost wishes that he hadn’t been reequipped with his memories, with the empty feeling that comes with his brothers not knowing him. He’d almost rather be forced to relearn everything than deal with the festering, parasitic feelings that curl in his gut.
Instead, he buries them away and stares at his—but not his—mate, knowing that as long as he has her, it’ll be okay.
Everything has to be okay.

Leader Language: LLQi
Leader Language: LLQi
When I look back over three decades in business, I see how central our communications skills are to success. Leader Language : LLQi is about communications.
When I became a certified performance coach, I appreciated some of the psychology of internal and external dialogue. It probably wasn’t until 2009 when I developed my understanding of Emotional Intelligence that I really started to ‘get it’.
So where are we now? Well, I am now a Master Practitioner in Emotional Intelligence, a published writer, blogger, speaker, advisor, consultant. Call me what you like as long as I help fix your problems.
Every conversation, meeting and activity is a learning opportunity. My international work has helped me to pull a lot of understanding (and misunderstanding) into what is LLQi.
LLQi blends psychology, communications, behaviours into a way that is practically applied.
Leader Language : LLQi, Neil Fogarty
Foundations of Leader Language
The best way to start writing a book is to start writing
There’s quite a leap from talking about wanting to write a book and actually doing it.
Taking the leap
At the start, my biggest problem is that my own knowledge of a topic is light compared to subject experts. But I do come with advantages: a) it’s a learning journey b) I am able to connect different dots to build a story c) I am agnostic about specific topics whereas a subject expert many be focused on one area.
However you look at it, writing is research-intensive to begin with.
My starting point for the book was to ask 3 questions:
What is a leader
What is language
How does it fit together
Out of this span a LOT of thoughts ranging from how to identify a leader and the components of internal and external language. Importantly, how do we embrace new thinking and apply it in a way that isn’t ‘forced’?
I started the process by reviewing my understanding of leadership traits and elements of powerful communication. I then checked with some very helpful psychologists. This was a mix of sanity-check where my general beliefs were challenged, followed by taking some new directions.
On from there, it was a case of reviewing a lot of work in the application of communications. This included leadership, collaboration, conflict, etc. and how culture informs and is informed by communication.
Going ‘public’
I tend to talk-to-think which can be frustrating for people who think that the first thing I say is my final thought on a matter. As I read numerous books on therapy and counselling, I would walk with my smartphone on standby.
Getting words down on paper
As I walked, I talked. I would speak into the phone, recalling key elements of books I’d read; connecting new dots; asking myself questions.
Writer’s Block may or not be a real thing – life can be the bigger block as there’s so much to do… and then how we react to that is where the block kicks in
Over a few months, I had recorded hours of these and, from this, started to pick the bones out for the book.
Prepare to be criticised
With about 25,000 words done, I started to pass out the first half of the book to people who I knew were downbeat. I love upbeat people and am naturally drawn to them – my wife is super-upbeat, for example. But, if a book is to sell, I didn’t want people who wouldn’t sternly critique the text.
The feedback was that, whilst the content was good inasmuch as it was informative, it was a little dry. It needed more stories, metaphors, etc. and so opened it up to interviews with senior people in business.
Rip it up & start again
So the original 25,000 LLQi words have been shredded and rebuilt whilst modifying how the second half was being laid down.
Nine months on from the first words being written on page one, the book is evolving and revolving – and gets closer to the publisher being happy with the content.
As to the first words:
Before we get into it, let’s cut to the chase. This is a book about language and communication and how our current habits can inform how an organisation operates. This isn’t a book about ‘leaders’ but is a book about how anyone with leadership traits would gain greater influence through verbal, non-verbal and behavioural connection.
Leader Language : LLQi – Neil Fogarty
The book has certain models involved that reflect input from psychology without explicitly turning into a psychology book. First, this is because I’m not a psychologist and we all hate frauds. Second is that, in my experience in the Association for Business Psychology, psychologists all have their personal favourites and many discussions slip into disagreements or a desire for proving the greater academic credentials.
As the book is heavily pushed towards practicality and applicability, I have tried to reduce the points of distraction.
Writer’s Block
I do tend to think that Writer’s Block is a real thing. I know that people say that if you are a professional writer, there is no block. Well I write blogs and articles all the time as they pay the immediate bills – and this blocks time off to work on the book.
Whilst it’s important to get something down on the page… it feels like it’s always short of perfection
I write in big bursts – I get tangled up with the text, working it into something legible. My obsession is to be the l’enfant terrible producing something that may not be palatable but can be ingested.
Inelegant but with a flow
I don’t consider myself to be an elegant writer yet but I know that I can create ‘flow’. Whether I am designing a workshop for a client, plotting out a a speech, or blogging… I focus on the flow. I like how people feel that I am just having a chat that happens to have a point.
Yeah, that would be a fair description of my style: a chat that happens to have a point.
So I am tidying the first 25,000 and laying down the other 25,000 – not too far off target in terms of putting a product in front of the publisher. It won’t be the finished article as none of my work ever is. Most of my work never can be as the topics of psychology, business, leadership are all evolving. What may sound great today can sound passé extremely quickly.
And here I sit, at the table with the Mac staring at me, challenging me to say something. Killing Joke sings on Spotify and the damnable hound lies on my chair, coating my stuff in beagle hair.
Killing Joke is leading the way
Dogs recognise leaders, regardless of age or title: they just know. They may not understand what’s being said, but they understand tone, pitch and volume. The damnable hound knows good behaviours from bad.
Maybe the hound should be at the keyboard at times.
Anyway, to continue the process of talk to think, I have been recording a series of 2-minute vignettes to try to cover the elements of leader language.
As well as keeping an eye on the videos as they are released on Vimeo and YouTube, be sure to follow LLQi on Twitter.

Roleplay Request
Hello, fellow humans! My name is Alex. =)
I am a human just like you are. I drive a car, and have a job. I’m certainly not a rabbit controlling a person, shaped robot. Does anyone have a carrot?
Have you ever pondered the purpose of life? Well wait no more, for I have found it! I mean my purpose, not yours. I was put on this to dance!…Well that, and also role play sometimes.
Below I will use words, and form them into sentences that will make just enough sense to be considered legible.
Rules, and also Getting Along;
Roleplay List;
