learning that apparently several hundred people have been pronouncing 'miette' as 'mighty' has actively worsened my day

#ID #yeah no I was shook too but like. more just in a way of oh shit people don’t know this is crumb in french it’s mi ette it’s very cute #and knowing it’s french you pronounce the miette quotes in a french accent and it’s funny #the people must be told. not wow OP knows nothing abt anything and every american is dumb let’s lambast our whole education system for this #this post’s notes are nearly all discourse about the history and pros/cons of phonics???#with no mention on most threads of how english pronunciation is really variable and inconsistent #so what the hell does phonics have to do with it. the same letter combinations can be pronounced very differently based on the word’s origin #if miette was a spanish word it could be mi-é-té #ear and earn have the same vowel letters but different vowel sounds #etc. etc. a million examples of this #this did not have to turn into the bullshit into which it has turned
