As a light bit of relief from the everything going on right now, I'm going to detail some horrible shit I got up to since starting Stardew Valley a couple of weeks back, so hopefully you can relish in my screw ups :)

(for reference I'm in my first year of Autumn/Fall right now) :

1. Can't fish.

I have successfully caught one fish so far. Willy SHOWED UP at my home, asking why I don't fish and gave me the basic baby rod to fish with and I STILL CAN'T.

2. Thought crops played by the rules of my very limited experience with plants and only watered them every couple of days and was confused why they weren't growing as quickly.

3. I then thought the crops played by Minecraft rules and refused to walk on any of them and created long 1x1 paths of a singular crop to avoid that.

I went from not watering at all to just watering for days.

4. Kept on watering during the rain.

4. Sold literally all of the material I had found during my first season and half, so I was without a scarecrow or a furnace or more then one chest (which I only got at the end of Spring).

5. Didn't piece together that I couldn't stay up beyond 2am for ages and KEPT on thinking I'd fucked up with something else when I'd "coincidentally" pass out at 2.

5. Exclusively gifted Elliott clams until the start of Fall, as I thought he'd like them cause he lived in a beach shack.

I was essentially picking up gravel in his garden and handing it to him as a present.

6. Ate pretty much ALL OF MY EARLY HARVESTS.

7. Then refused to eat until I was already sluggish from over-exertion.

8. Still don't have enough for a coop or any animals.

9. Almost got a Joja membership. :(

10. Asked every single candidate to be my dance partner and got very sad when EVERYONE refused.

11. I can barely navigate my own house cause I kept on placing the chests I do have now everywhere instead of selling what I do have to reduce clutter and general stuff.

12. Named my cat Ritz. Not something silly or bad this time. My mutual @beepbeepdespair just thought she reminded them of a tuxedo cat -> song Puttin' On The Ritz. :)

Extended authors' note: Lost Wardens bits from the bins

I saw making the rounds this one post about the secret lore authors have about their own stories/fics, so I feel like sharing some stuff about the longfic/novel that finally crossed that AO3 line to Completed yesterday. Just some behind the scenes stuff, if anyone's so inclined. Big spoiler-y things are after the cut.

Here are some videos of influencer crabber (! — feel like that's something Alex would have enjoyed, lol) Luke McFadden that I watched for some references. I also watched a whole bunch of FV Miss Paula content, and that's where I learned about the crab tagging Alex does with the scientists. Pretty sure I still got some details wrong; feel free to correct me 'cause I ain't no crabber! They use "hawk" to refer to what I called a "marker buoy" in my fic, for instance, but I wanted to avoid confusion with another type of crab trap called a crabhawk.

By happy coincidence, it was actually Stardew Valley's seventh anniversary yesterday. I wasn't aware when I hit post on those last chapters, but I'm very glad. Wouldn't have made any of this without ConcernedApe's own labor of love.

I like to keep a "Bin" file of scraps, scene drafts, notes, etc. that I cut or revise but don't want to delete entirely. Lots of frozen darlings in there, lol. Looks like I finally figured out the direction I wanted to go at the end of August, when my third draft document became the main working one. Wardens Annex was set up just this year only because the main doc got too unwieldy for my phone's memory.

Anyway, I just wanted to write a love story in the style of cheesy TV movies. It was supposed to be about 3-5 chapters long; I thought my Seb fic was kicking off a bunch of these short fluffy pieces about different characters in the Valley.

So, in "Comparative Study", Alex was supposed to get hit by a truck and break his arm right before his big tryout, and as he processed how much this was going to change his life, he was supposed to learn that what he wanted was ✨💖right there all along💖✨. Leslie is surprise pregnant, Alex proposes, the end.

But, as you maybe know by now, another idea crept in, and I started thinking about the not-so-secret magic in the game and the little bits of lore we glean from stuff like that one Lost Book in the Pelican Town library. I liked the idea of a magical ensemble of some kind, too. I've always loved stuff about superpowered/magical teams, so I started to think about what kind of group would make sense in the world of Stardew Valley.

Originally, Rasmodius in crow form was supposed to cause the truck crash in an attempt to keep Alex from leaving the valley and not becoming warden. Jonathan, on the other hand, was all for letting Alex decide his own fate. In the final story, we only hear from Rasmodius in the penultimate chapter, but he figured a lot more in the early drafts, haha.

Digging around in the bins, I see the original group of younger wardens was going to include Abigail on the mountain, Leo in the forest, Jas with magic, and Vincent for memory. I wanted to end with Alex now in the role of mentor, as Jonathan had been to him. But as I got into Abigail's hidden ancestry and thought about Leo being raised by Linus, I felt that putting Abby on the mountain didn't really make sense. (She can still have a sword if she wants, though.)

The next group of younger wardens I had in mind was Alex, Leslie, Sebastian, Abigail, and Leah (forest). I also had ideas of Leah/Sebastian going on in the background. That didn't pan out once I decided to drop Leah from the group (sorry, Leah fans).

Anyway, I'd written about seven chapters out of these beginnings and then decided that the stakes didn't feel big enough. Alex's choice didn't feel like a real one. What was going to stop Alex from ultimately getting over what Rasmodius did and choosing to be warden, when it was basically the only good opportunity in front of him? I realized that the crash couldn't happen, and it was starting to feel too melodramatic for me, anyway. Gridball had to be back on the table. I had to start again.

Wardens of Magic, Go!

I am not kidding about the magical ensemble thing. I had them associated with different weapons and bird avatars but decided the weapons weren't really going to come into play.

Sandy - desert (kinda; it's unclear just how much Qi's handiwork has distanced his domain from the rest of the Circle over the years) - red-tailed hawk - ? (whip, lol)

Cathy - forest - horned owl

Jonathan

In the early versions, Jonathan was a more benign figure who simply encouraged Alex to make his own choices. He even supported Alex and Leslie's relationship; he just wanted to make sure Alex could freely decide what was best for Alex.

But as the story shifted, I started to feel Jonathan needed more to do. I thought more about what would drive Jonathan's interest in Alex's life. I hit upon the idea that it should be Jonathan, not Rasmodius, who is responsible for Alex's troubles. Next to Cathy, Jonathan was the most hurt by Raul and Joanna. So, who was he, really? And how far was he willing to go to keep Alex from going through what he did?

It was also probably around that time that I stopped calling him Samuel and his boat the Amaranth, lol. I was still kind of fresh from a Dishonored kick and wanted to maintain a connection. But as Alex's skipper became more his own character, he and his boat needed their own names.

I'd always planned for him to be the old mariner, and a good number of people guessed that early on. The thing is, though, the old mariner is a spirit. Jonathan was not yet a spirit, and he had stuff to do before that happened.

As a consequence of these changes, Alex spent a lot of the fic avoiding Jonathan and being mad at him. I realized that maybe too late; it became a problem when I had to write the final chapters. I started to worry that I'd only told people how much of a father figure Jonathan had been to this boy; maybe I hadn't shown it enough. The first drafts had more scenes of the two of them working together, joking around, having heart-to-hearts, etc. — stuff, I feel, would have strengthened the impact of Alex's conflicting feelings about the skipper once he found out the truth. This was the main reason for the flashback in Ch. 25; I hope it worked.

As for the big challenge showdown that never was, Rattle said something somewhere about how there doesn't always have to be a big fight with the "villain"; sometimes the villain turns out to be not bad at all, and sometimes the real villain is just trauma or indecision or life. Jonathan is sometimes an antagonist, but I never really saw him as a villain, just as someone who made questionable decisions in the name of protecting someone vulnerable and young. I wanted Alex's future to always end up in his own hands and for his heart to lead him there.

Cathy

I had also planned to write something to fill in the gaps about Cathy's life. We would actually see the "movie" in Ch. 24. Maybe Alex deciding last-minute that he didn't need to see it was a cop-out, but I just decided I didn't want to write this part anymore. Maybe it would've been too much of a detour from his own story, and I was already setting up a lot of pins to knock down as it was.

So, for those who're wondering, Cathy and Joanna had always been competitive. They were both cunning and charming, but Joanna was older and prettier and definitely got more attention. Cathy was open to Raul's advances, partly because the young wizard could get it, and partly because it would get one up over her sister. Soap operatic, maybe, but also human, maybe.

The reason for her "academic drift" away from forestry and her ending up at Fish and Wildlife after the big blow-up is Jonathan. His stepping in to shield her from Joanna left a faint magical imprint or echo, and part of the "drift" was driven by her own subconscious reaching for something familiar.

A while back IRL, there was a bunch of news stories about spies being outed, and for some reason they were all professors. My SO (works with some international academics) reasoned that it was because they can come into contact with and influence powerful people under the guise of advising and research. I entertained ideas of some intelligence agency using Cathy's memory problems, conference trips, and government ties to cover up the smuggling of documents and data. She could even be aware of it; she was cold enough when it came to JojaFish. But, as I'd already decided not to fully write out her story, I didn't develop these ideas more.

This might also be a good place to mention that I'd thought of having the war with Gotoro be one of the ripple/butterfly effects of the older Circle breaking apart. But I abandoned that idea, too.

Mr. Qi and Sandy

I love them. I hoped to get into their backstory at some point, but I never did work it in. Mostly because I was a coward and didn't want to get hate about their age difference.

Sandy was one of Joanna's first doves. Qi found her and kept her for a while, out of curiosity. As he grew attached and then concerned about how brief doves' lifespans are, he asked Joanna to un-dove the kid, and then he placed her with some business associates who were having trouble adopting. He barely saw her after that; he was too busy with growing his empire and was content to be a distant godfather who sent birthday and Winter Star presents.

When Sandy, strangely drawn to the desert and the Oasis, came looking for a job, Qi recognized her as his successor. He trained her in all the ways of hotel/hospitality management, and in magic. They developed an excellent collegial friendship. Qi suspected he might have even stronger feelings but kept them to himself, told himself to focus on business. He was about twice her age and blue; it wasn't gonna happen.

Even if he had (has) no plans of dying at a normal time, he decided to bring up his succession plans to Sandy at some point. She was the one who said it would be more fun if they got married.

Calendar math

This fic received the most planning I've ever put into a fic. You might have seen my map and notes on geography. I also downloaded a blank calendar and worked out where some dates would land if each season lasted three months instead of one. Here's a glimpse:

I also read up on fetal development and pregnancy in case anything Leslie was experiencing might be good to mention. Admittedly, I could have done that more. But after Alex went to training camp, he was around her less, and I also just focused on him more.

Personal/other writerly stuff

As you can maybe tell, I really love the sea. I think working on this fic helped me reacquaint myself with that love. There's so much focus on farming and the farmer in a lot of SDV fan work, but I really enjoyed digging into the fact that Pelican Town is a seaside town — and in the process, I got to think about all the things I loved about growing up close to the sea myself.

I know I also resorted to a lot of figures of speech related to music. Maybe they're crutches for me at this point, but explaining things the way I'd describe music or moving through water or water moving (plus weather, especially storms) is maybe the best way I know how to verbalize the thought or feeling I want in the story. Under the ecliptic zodiac, I'm an earth sign, and under the Chinese zodiac, my element is fire. But water and being in or close to the water gives me a sense of equilibrium and clarity; maybe it's a balancing thing (says the person who also says she doesn't believe in astrology). Outside of the water, the next thing that gives me that is music.

This fic also saw me processing some personal stuff about life stages and getting to move forward to the next one. Alex and Leslie's happy ending/beginning is a bit of wish fulfillment for me. They channel magic through their work, which means they will still go through all the mundanity and struggle of farming/crabbing/fishing, but they will have a home together at the end of every day. I am working toward the quiet magic of love in my everyday, too.

I have some ideas for the next thing I want to write, but they need to simmer a bit. In the meantime, I'll go back to actually reading fics and seeing what else other people are writing (I try to avoid the AO3 feed during a big WIP to prevent idea osmosis).

One Direction- Creative Enjoyer. They were the first band I ever got into and my first concert, and I was crazy about them. I don't know if any fanfiction of mine still exists, but I for sure remember writing it lmao. It probably would have been on Quotev but I'm too afraid to go look for it lmao. (NEVER MIND I WENT AND LOOKED. MY REAL NAME AND FACE ARE TIED TO THE ACCOUNT WTF WERE YOU THINKING, 13 YEAR OLD ME)

Doctor Who- Creative Enjoyer. This would have been around the same time as 1D, and I know there's a few OC fics of mine floating around Quotev from like ten years ago. I am very much tempted to rewatch all of New Who. I was insane about Ninerose and Tenrose and I kind of want to see if I still am

Marvel- Creative enjoyer. I was a stucky fan, and my first couple of fics on AO3 were Marvel. I did also have an OC named Donnie Noviak at one point.

Steven Universe- Creative Enjoyer. I did a bunch of fanart, and I had a couple gem OCs that I thought were cool. I have a drawing of Stevonnie that I did the linework for, brought my sketchbook to school, and one of my friends who was an art student colored it for me. I'm not certain where that sketchbook went lol.

The Adventure Zone- Creative Enjoyer. TAZ Balance altered my brain chemistry permanently, even though I had gone into it knowing the big plot twist. I relisten to it once a year, it's so good. I wrote a couple one shots for it for a friend's birthday.

Star Wars- Creative Enjoyer. I don't really have much to say about this one lol, I was kind of insane about attempting to "fix" the bad writing of the sequel trilogy and what a disservice it did to my favorite characters.

Dan and Phil- Passive Enjoyer. I don't have much to say except they were foundational in late middle school-early high school. I went to both of their joint stage shows, once as a birthday present. There may or may not be pictures of me with cat whiskers drawn on my face. I still own their plushies.

Fall Out Boy- Creative enjoyer, I did a lot of fanart in high school, and I'm currently in the process of drawing a FOB tattoo based on my favorite song, (Coffee's for Closers), which coincidentally is what my url is a reference to. As much as I love Ghost, this is my favorite band, and they have been for nine years. Their music got me through a lot of rough shit, ngl. (Also idk if this counts as fan art, but I spent like six months making 250 bracelets to hand out at the two concerts I'm going to, one of which is in three days at the time I'm writing this. I'm very excited, I have incredible seats and I hope they play something wild for the surprise songs.)

Stardew Valley- Passive Enjoyer. This is my favorite video game, and I have over 500 hours on steam (one save file, my perfection run, has 200 of those hours), so probably around 600 hours total if you include how much I played it on mobile. I started in high school when I had a chromebook that would not run steam games, so I was mobile only until college and I got a real laptop. The fishing minigame sucked until I got a mouse too, lol. I've spent a lot of time and most of my lunch breaks in the last two weeks playing, because there was just a huge update and I'm going in blind and having so much fun.

Hermitcraft- Passive Enjoyer. I've been watching this server on and off since my senior year of high school. I really like watching people play Minecraft in so many different creative ways? Like, one of the people I watch spent a year and a half creating this giant dungeon minigame complete with custom sounds and levels, and it was insane. They started their tenth season about two months ago, and I am attempting to watch 13 of the 27 creators on the server. We'll see how that goes lol. Also, side tangent, one of the members mispronouncing my twitch username is why I named myself Dottie.

Critical Role- mainly passive, but I have written a oneshot about my favorite characters so I'll count it as creative. This has been how I spend my Thursday nights for about two and a half years, and this year, I actually get an episode of Candela Obscura, their horror rpg show, on my birthday.

Dungeon Meshi- Passive Enjoyer. I binged the anime, and just finished the manga. I was completely hooked by the premise, and the writing is absolutely incredible. I could also go on a tangent about the lore and character design, but I digress lol.

Ghost- Creative Enjoyer. This is the thing I've written the most for, and I think it takes up over half of my total AO3 word count? IDK. I have never been this active in a community, and I'm just so happy to be here. The characters are all super intriguing to me, and especially how the ghouls are technically blank slates, barring their on-stage behavior, it's so interesting to see how different people bring them to life.

Harry Potter - creative enjoyer - My very first. This shit was a family affair in my house. I went to watch parties, themed parties. I cosplayed shittily, wrote shitty fanfic, and my walls were plastered floor to ceiling in teen magazine posters. Went to the Exhibition. Every second movie would come out in July so I would pretend it was like a birthday gift to me.

Twilight - creative enjoyer - Jfc. Don’t get me started. I still have my Edward action figure whose now missing both hands. Used to write self insert fanfic on quizzilla.com. RIP you beast of a website

The Walking Dead - passive enjoyer - This was also a family affair. Every sunday we would all gather round our shitty TV for the newest episode. I was more of a liveblogger than anything else. My dad has a bit to this day that ‘Hershel isn’t dead. He’ll be back.’ Yeah, sure dad.

Legend of Zelda - creative enjoyer - For most of my childhood I was passive, only really doodling Twilight Princess stuff sometimes. Then BOTW came out and it all changed.

Lord of the Rings - passive enjoyer - I look at Legolas and Aragorn. That’s enough for me. I don’t need creative works because I just need to look at them.

Marvel (Spider-man and Loki mostly) - creative enjoyer - I’ve been drawing these guys since birth, for better or for worse. MCU can suck my nuts but so can Loki franchise /sex DC (Batman) - creative enjoyer - Batman the Animated series did something bad to me. Now I draw Joker sometimes. Watch out, stay safe out there

Sherlock and Doctor Who - passive enjoyer - I’m putting these two together since I never really made fan art or anything, but I did attend watch parties for both on several occasions.

Supernatural - creative enjoyer - Sighs. Sighs even harder. Somewhere out there, deep in the depths of fanfic.net there’s miles of really really really bad fanfic. Somewhere…. Final Fantasy VII - creative enjoyer - Sighs far more dreamily. My favvvvv my ultimate fav. Sephiroth is my fictional other and LOMF. Many, many arts of him throughout every sketchbook I own. Also some fanfics IIRC.

Homestuck - creative enjoyer - War flashbacks. Not only was I a semi-well known fanartist, I was also a semi-well known cosplayer in my city. I was a ‘friendleader’ in my cities Homestuck fangroup and attended events, dances, etc etc etc. I was on a cosplay gif blog here on Tumblr. I ran the second most popular groupchat on MSPARP.com before it was MXRP.com. I had beef with mods. Most of my relationships at that time were forged in the fires of LOHAC. I still see my art of Dave in MCR black parade uniform around sometimes. Dramatical Murder - creative enjoyer - To no ones surprise. Yeah. I like the yaoi dissociation game. Dream Daddy - creative enjoyer - SHOUTOUT DREAM DADDY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Evil priest Joseph lovers rise UP. Didn’t do much, but there’s some art floating around out there.

Voltron: LD - passive enjoyer - Thank GOD I never made anything for this. However, I was active in the kin community so thats a huge L. I also ate uppppp stuff about it and sheith still fucks.

Overwatch - creative enjoyer - Sometimes you’re a Genji main and the world is so so hard for you. That’s how I used to live my life, then I got better.

tsukishima was always very hesitant to kiss and hug tbh

the only thing he did freely without overthinking was hold your hand but even then, he’d immediately pull away if he thought his palm was getting the slightest bit sweaty (from his nerves)

also, he’d get really tense when ever he saw you lean in for a kiss bc he was always afraid that he’d mess up something 

like what happens if he sneezes exactly when you’re about to connect lips?- he’d die, that’s what would happen. 

anyway, when you first began surprising him by placing kisses on either the back of his hand or the nape of his neck, he’d become a blushing , irritated mess

like, he thought it was so cute and sweet so of course he’d blush but then he’d get mad bc..you made him blush! how embarrassing for him, tsk.

but although he’d be annoyed and hiss things like ‘you’re so weird’ or ‘that’s simp behaviour’ he would never tell you to stop bc deep down he knows that he enjoys it lol

and surprisingly, he wasn’t in denial about it at first either 

like mans isn’t stupid 

obviously he liked it, why else would he blush?

since he was aware that he liked your lil’ random kisses, he began to pretend to be invested in activity bc he realised that if you thought he was preoccupied with something important/stressful, you’d be more likely to give his neck a lil’ peck

for instance, if he’s just on his phone or whatever then you text him saying that you’re coming over, he immediately rush to gather his backpack and bring out his notes so he can sit at his desk to look like he’s studying lmao 

then you walk in like ‘awh bb you’re always working so hard 🥺 kithes’

and he’s just got the most cunning smirk on his face which he’s trying his very best hide to conceal

then you gave him a kiss on the cheek and he was just like ‘gotcha bitch ( •̀ ω •́ )✧’ 

anyway, when he’s just deadass being lazy he can still tell when you’re about to kiss him bc he’s very observant etc etc

(also bc you always have a cheesy grin on your face before you kiss him lol)

so after a few years of dating, they become less of ‘random kisses’ and more like just regular kisses for tsukki but he always tries to act like it’s surprising 

whether that be jumping slightly whenever you peck the back of his neck or inhaling sharply as you pressed a sudden kiss to his forehead

it’s just bc he loves to hear your giggles at his reaction 🥺 he thinks it’s so cute

this all began when he was lying on the couch, reading a book while looking absolutely scrumptious so you just had to give him a lil’ peck on the forehead and he’s been addicted ever since

he especially likes it when you sneak up behind him, wrap him in a hug then plant a kiss on the nape of his neck - he thinks it’s so cute and he always cuddles your arms to his chest so you don’t let go

like whenever he saw you really invested in an activity that you didn’t like doing (cleaning, laundry, studying, chores etc) he’d plant a firm kiss on your cheek which would end up trailing across your face, to your lips - just to boost your spirits lol :)

but they weren’t really surprising or ‘random’ bc he would always announce something to grab your attention before kissing you, like ‘babe’ or ‘wow’

also, imo ‘random kisses’ gives off a ‘sweet lil’ smooch’ sorta vibe but the kisses he gives you are far from ‘smooches’

like they are unintentionally sensual as hell 

and he doesn’t even realise how erotic they are so he just suddenly pulls away to leave you with your chores ✋😔

😊 what makes you happy?

Crocheting/learning to knit! And if I’m not actively doing it I love you watching tutorials for new stitches and patterns and stuff! I’m not super good right now- I can really only do simple things with crochet and it literally took me two years of trying to learn how to knit two types of stitches- but I’m excited at how good I could be one day if I keep at it! And I love making things to keep people warm and cozy 😊 it’s a really nice feeling. Also this might just be a me thing but I find watching other people’s hands while they craft so soothing and relaxing. It’s really cool how everyone has their own different style and way they hold things! There’s no true right or wrong way to do it and I really love that!

😇 do you believe in guardian angels?

So I know that certain parts of Christianity do believe in guardian angels but it honestly wasn’t ever something I was exposed to growing up in the church outside of references in tv shows and books. I really like the idea of someone looking out for you and keeping you safe and helping you make the right choices in tough situations. But as far as it being part of my belief system I can’t say that I do.

👾 what’s your favorite video game?

I could talk about Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing or the Sims all day but one of my very favorite games growing up was one called Magical Starsign. I had it for my DS and I played it over and over again! It was a power of friendship type game about students at a magic school whose teacher goes missing and so they sneak out of school in hidden rocket ships to search the galaxy for her. It sounds super silly lol but it’s filled with great music and lots of puns and actually really decent friendship dynamics between all the characters! I adored it and I highly recommend this silly little game.

🌤 what’s your favorite type of weather?

I used to love snowstorms as a kid but now that I have to drive in them I’m not a fan anymore lol. My favorite weather would be the chilly, slightly cloudy summer mornings right before a scorching hot day. At camp I always knew I’d have to change my outfit like three times on days like that but the mornings always felt so good!

☕️ coffee or tea?

I love tea but for the last year I’ve had to up my caffeine intake in order to function like a normal human being so if it’s not coffee or an energy drink I don’t really have time for it

(I know I should drink more water too. I’m trying)

🍺 do you drink?

I do occasionally! I really like sweet things! And I really appreciate the fact that you introduced me to yummy wines because that’s always my go to lol I love sweet moscatos!

I have a lot of rules for myself with drinking though so I don’t do it super often these days. If baby is at a grandparents house for the night for like date nights (oh how I miss those) I can drink as much as I want but if we’re home and having a drink while baby is in bed I’ll only do it if I don’t work the next day and then it’ll only be one if I’m getting up with baby the next day.

📚 what’s your favorite book?

Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke

It was my go to safe place when I was a kid. I often got lost in that world when things were hard in real life. And she left it wide open for sequels that in always wondered about. I wondered what happened to Bens parents and he was a 10 year old wandering the streets for 17 years. And then Cornelia Funke released a sequel and it answered the question. I’m so glad I was listening to the audio book because I wouldn’t have made it through the hard copy lol I’m all grown up now but getting to go back to the world I treasured as a child and experience new adventures? Yeah I cried all the way through it lol

❤️ what’s something that you love?

I love so very many things but right now one of the little things that I really adore is being able to watch the sunrise over the countryside on my way in to work in the mornings. It’s so so beautiful and puts me in the right mindset right away.

I’m trying to do better because I KNOW that my mental health is highly dependent on it, but I routinely fuck up and fail. so like, usually between 7-9 hours, but then i’ll sometimes just do that good ol 5. What I’m Wearing: oh god, a sweater that my mom got for herself and shrunk in the wash, a polka-dot blouse i found in a donation pile at school, and a white skirt I bought when I was 10. so. that should give you a sense of exactly how fashionable I am. 


Dream Trip: given endless money and endless time to deal with any and all anxiety-related problems, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong until I’ve conquered all of my emotional baggage and return home triumphantly fluent in mandarin at least. I would also like to visit the baltics one day, and return to Japan and some countries in western/northern europe, but I feel like that would be thematically too challenging for one dream trip lol.


Favourite Food: scrambled eggs and tomatoes. idk if this is actually my favorite food, but it’s like. the food i always answer bc childhood.


Instruments: piano (above average in general, mediocre for how long i spent learning), used to play violin for 4 years (i am Bad at it), tried a year of flamenco guitar (also Bad at it), and did choir for a number of years (mediocre at it)


Languages: in descending order? English, Mandarin, French, Japanese with some scattered German and Spanish comprehension somewhere in there and then like 2 words in many other random languages 


Favourite Song/s: eek. that’s so hard please don’t do this to me. currently, it’s SOMETHING by Wu Qingfeng, though I’d be hard-pressed to pick one. On the other hand, I’m pretty sure the song I’ve had on repeat most often in the last few weeks is probably “恋语1910” by Modern Brothers (摩登兄弟) it’s just such a BOP i’m gonna listen to it right now.


Random Fact: you can say “同志” (tong2 zhi1 — comrade) to refer to queerness in chinese which i think is just the best thing


Aesthetic: unfortunately, it’s child who still doesn’t know how to dress themselves or trash grandma, though I admit that I absolutely LOVE the horrible current fashion of absurdist, pop, vaporwave revival?? it’s just like the art of wearing expensive garbage very badly, and as someone who DOES think capitalism is bad, it’s with great shame that i admit i covet that look so much lol. it’s just so anti-harmony. White t-shirt with what looks like 2 torn up sweaters stapled to it? fuckin iconique. 1830s-esque sleeves with some kind of modern fusion pantsuit/traditional chinese outfit paired with red stilettos?? amazing. plaid bathrobe with bright white sneaks and a mullet? a Look. Yes, I’m just linking to my favorite singers’ performances on Singer. they’re all good u should listen to them. pls i can only talk about this with like one other person pls someone else also fall in love with these bastards. i recommend the 2nd one first simply bc even if you can’t understand the language, tan weiwei’s vocal technique is just!! fuck. but also i put on the video of qingfeng singing and i’m literally on the verge of tears so you know.
