#tag talk#the only algorithm I want is one that recommends tiny artists with single digit notes#akin to when youtube recommends a random 13 year old video with 1k views. I do not want Mr beast recommendations#under no circumstances do I want a machine to tell me “hey. 20M other people like this. you should too”#show me a tiny community I would have never found any other way.#algorithms don't have to stifle smaller creators. they don't have to stratify the creator economy. you can design them to be helpful#finding content for everyone doesn't have to mean pigeonholing people into the same five big creators.#maybe it's just my approach? I like being recommended little tiny things I don't like and going “nah not this one. try again”#I don't need an algorithm to hear about a big artist or writer or youtuber. I need an algorithm to find the smaller unique people#you can make tools that help people. it's just that it's less monetarily effective. it doesn't commodify your users as well#you have to actually care about the art and putting people's eyes on it. not just making money from their clicks.
