Another TTRPG character! She was originally a Nine Parchments/Trine fan character, but I decided to repurpose her for @jessebizarreart's introductory campaign since all of us will be new to Pathfinder!

I was originally wanting to emulate the Nine Parchments artstyle, while also remaking her to be more... interesting? She definitely looked very different initially (the original design will put under the cut).

One Card A Day Tarot Reading

Day 4

Date: 1-4-25

Deck: The Literary Tarot. I haven't read this deck yet either.

Intention: I keep thinking of things I could do with my life, but something always stops me. How do I work past the part of my brain that always says, "Why bother?"

Card: Nine of Parchment

Imagery: At the bottom of the card sit nine women holding gold-foiled slips of paper. All but two are dressed in gray-blue robes; the one in the center wears red, and one to the side wears green. They sit on the ground at the foot of a Japanese style building. Behind the scene, a woman wearing white and red face paint with a gold-foiled comb in her hair partially obscures her smiling face as she writes on her own gold-foiled parchment. Her robes are green with a pattern of yellow flowers. This scene comes from The Pillow Book by Sei Shōnagon.

First impression: I'm unfamiliar with both this deck and the book the card is based on. I've read the introduction to the deck in the guidebook and I know the suit of Parchment is similar to Pentacles in standard tarot decks, so this card reflects the material. Beyond that, no idea.

Guidebook says: Success, achievement, leisure, material security, self-sufficiency. After much hard work and dedication, you have succeeded in delighting the court with your sharp wit and eye. Take time to enjoy the spoils of your labor. Trust the value of your perceptions, and protect the priceless treasure that is your detailed observations.

Second impression: Keep faith in the After. You always forget that it'll be there to meet you when you're done. Why bother? You could always be bothering yourself with something less worthwhile. It's called "bettering yourself" for a reason.

Evening reflection: So. I'm thinking about going back to school. I dont suppose any if you know anything about speech language pathology?

I Believe This is Yours, Miss.

I usually don't do any backgrounds for my pictures, so this painting was a bit more ambitious than usual. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out; though, I did have a lot of trouble getting the sky to look right. (In my opinion it still looks a bit weird.) Anyway, I hope you enjoy!

“Mister Potter,” Slughorn said gravely, sitting at his desk and staring at James with a very concerned expression, “I need you to be very honest with me.”

James resisted the urge to grin as he replied, “Of course, Professor. I’m always honest with you.”

The older man rolled his eyes. “Potter. Did you cheat on this exam?” He brandished a roll of parchment at him– their latest NEWT-level test.

James gaped. “No!” he said truthfully. “I didn’t! Why, did I–?”

“You got a ninety-nine percent,” Slughorn cut him off, still looking very suspicious. “Mister Potter, you’re very intelligent, please do not misunderstand. But you scored the same as Miss Evans and Mister Snape. I think you can see why I’m a bit confused.”

He blinked, thinking about all of the times he’d sat with Regulus in the library, staring off into the distance as the younger boy read huge Potions books under his breath. James just loved listening to Regulus speak, but perhaps there had been some practical advantage to all of that… “Right. Er, yeah, I…found a study partner,” he said awkwardly.

Slughorn tilted his head. “Well, you’ve never cheated before. But just to be sure, will you consent to taking the next test with an anti-cheating quill?”

“Sure!” James nodded. “Can I go now?” He wanted to see Regulus.

Squinting his eyes, the Professor dismissed him.

“Reg!” James said a few minutes later, slightly out of breath, finding his boyfriend in the library. “You’ll never guess what Slughorn accused me of!”

“Stealing from his personal stores again?” the younger boy drawled, not bothering to look up. “You need to be a bit more careful, James, you and your friends are ridiculously obviou-”

“He thought I was cheating on my test because I got a ninety-nine percent,” James burst out, beaming. “Because I like to listen to you read.”

At this, Regulus looked up. After a moment of stunned silence, he burst out laughing. “Oh, I can’t wait to tell Sirius,” he chuckled.
