OK, but I love that Essek might be appearing in the Mighty Nein series before he meets the Nein! It's not just me wanting More Essek (though I do) or wanting to see more of what was going on with his dealings with the Assembly (which I also do). I think this could be super fucking interesting from a narrative construction standpoint.

Because I cannot see how you can include Essek from early in the series and not make it clear to the audience that he's the Dynasty traitor loooong before the Nein find out. Essek having stolen the beacons will not be a surprise. It looks to me like the cast are swapping out surprise for a fuckton of suspense. (Suspense vs surprise was explained to me when I was studying narrative structure as 'surprise is when a bomb goes off that the audience didn't know was there. Suspense is when they see the bomb being placed and have to sit there begging the characters to realise it's there.' In this analogy, Essek is the bomb.)

When we watched C2, the question was is Essek the traitor? In the M9 show, the question for new watchers will be when will the Nein realise that Essek is the traitor? When Essek meets the Nein, the countdown starts ticking; people will know that he is a danger. He is manipulating them. He is going to hurt them. Will the Nein realise before it's too late? But then Essek starts really befriending them, showing more of his loneliness and vulnerability, and... I think the mood will shift. Oh, shit, he really cares about them, doesn't he? What will the Nein do if they find out? Do I even want them to find out? What if they reject him and it makes him worse? He can't keep this up much longer, this is unbearable, they're going to find out - OH FUCK THEY'RE FINDING OUT -

It's such a fascinating choice and I think it goes to show that adaptation is an art form in itself! The actual events in the world will be the same, or at least very similar, but a new format means you can show those events in a totally new way and create a completely different tone! Narrative structure is the fucking coolest! I'm so excited for this show!

[1] Kanade: Alolan Ninetales - During times when Kanade isn't behaving like a pathetic girlfailure, you gotta admit she looks like the most beautiful goddess you've ever seen, and Alolan Ninetales fits exactly that description. They are both pure and kind at heart. When they are around, you feel safe.

[2] Mafuyu: Corviknight - Corviknight is the seemingly scary but internally very soft protector of Mafuyu. When Mafuyu feels overwhelmed, Corviknight will be there to assure her that she has the means to escape/fly away and recuperate. I linked the personality of the other 3's character with their assigned Pokemon but Mafuyu and Corviknight don't really share characteristics. Instead, Corviknight will remain loyal by her side until she establishes her identity and realizes her dream.

[3] Ena: Dedenne - Ena really strikes me as someone with an electric-type. She's capable of "shocking" people with her adamant personality and strong vocals. Plus, she would definitely want a cute and cuddly Pokemon to take selfies with. Those two characteristics (strong and cute) make it so that they both easily attract the attention of others.

[4] Mizuki: Sylveon - Cmon there is no better Pokemon for them than Sylveon. The trans colors. The ribbons. The fairy-like and cutesy appearance. They both give off an energy that they're loved by everyone, but (at least for Mizuki) they don't realize it. They could team up in some fashion show, and they'd win unanimously.

Hi there!! I just saw your tags on the Vash marksman appreciation post and I really REALLY gotta know your thoughts on the fight choreography bc while I did martial arts as a kid I don’t remember everything and just extremely curious!! Wanna appreciate the thoughts put behind making this boyo!!

👀👀!!! Yes, hello! (Note: I'm also about 10yrs rusty out of practice in hapkido--a Korean defensive art that combines many styles from judo/aikido/etc, so while I may not remember all the formal terms and stuff, I can still SEE the very real and very sexy close combat choreography + randori/grapples/ground work they're smoothly throwing in there!) I've briefly tag-ranted on some former gifs I've reblogged here & here but OK, I can indulge into a little more detail! :D

Let's start with this gif, which is such a nice introductory tease!

The point-blank bullet dodging is some of that sick looking 'rule of cool' inhuman spice, but oh what's this?? 👀 The other dude is dumbly holding his arm out (non-defensively, since if that guy were smart about close fighting, he'd have his other hand up at the ready too) right in Vash's personal space, ripe for the taking - to which OH YES he easily blocks with the prosthetic arm and transitions right into a throw for the takedown. Where he shoves the fool over his shoulder with a lot more power (which is hard to do, esp from a standing position without a solid grip on any lapels either; woo he just goes right in for it), rather than using the dude's own momentum against him, since the guy's literally just standing there (as a stationary weight) rather than trying to punch him in a brawl. But LOOK what else Vash does!!! His block with the prosthetic becomes a grip that both holds/pulls onto the guy's arm during the throw and disarms the guy - by tossing his gun away, in one swift movement! :O Not only that, but there!! We see the first quick tease of him reverse-griping his own heavy brick of a gun into a tonfa position to strike the guy at the back of the neck for a non-lethal stun!!! That is SO cool!!! ;o; Some galaxy-brained application of his no-killing fighting style (using both arms + his revolver in his repertoire...oh wait, that already makes up the title's literal 3 guns *gets shot*) where it looks so fresh and seamlessly smooth af. Great stuff.

Then the Livio fight, despite him being double-armed with long-range weapons, is full of close-range gold from the way Vash tackles him, straddles him, and pins him to the floor with a (forceful!) choke to the throat (like whoa excuse me hello), but ALSO from the self-aware way Vash always has his guard up to keep both of Livio's guns out of the way at all times. D: Whether parrying bullets with his prosthetic, blocking/holding the guns away with that arm too (as shown), or even using his own gun defensively as a tonfa-shield to reinforce his blocks as well.

So then we get to THIS GIF, the same sequence that drove you insane for his smooth marksmanship tracking, drives ME insane for his immediate close-quarters holywhattheflyingshit did he just DO!?!?!?! 👀👀

LOOK AT HIM!!! Honestly it's kinda hard to see everything from how fast he goes, but I love the way he zips in there to grapple Livio off-balance, and ahh!! Look at the way Vash ducks and defensively keeps both arms up (this is SO important, because once you've trained you'll notice how in so many movies/comics' 'rule of cool' martial arts moves, they'll often have a character wildly swing their arms out to the sides to counter-balance kicks and stuff, but no--that's bad/unsafe form; bc if you're in a real fight you need to keep both arms up and ready at all times if you want to protect your core/face from getting blown off! Which just as you've noted, is something that needs to be practiced! The fact Vash has kept his unblemished pretty face for 150yrs is testament to that~) Vash knows how to simultaneously use his prosthetic AND his gun as needed--cause look at that, he swiftly holds it reversed as a tonfa again to block Livio's gun swing, which is a really cool way to use a gun as a shield to protect his own flesh arm from the incoming blows.

But that's not all, because ahaaa~ Fighting defensively is not all he's got up his sleeve! The little boxing jab he throws to Livio's face with his prosthetic arm makes me giggle, because OH YEAH that's a real thing! A type of distraction strike you pull - the same as stomping on a foot or kicking someone in the balls, to disorient your opponent off-guard first before you serve your real (offensive) move. Which in Vash's case leads up to a....O___O;;!?!? TF is THAT.

Here's where they're teasing in more of that inhuman spice again, because Vash holds Livio's guns out of the way (as usual) and revs up for a....fucking one-punch to the solar plexus at point-blank?!? D8 Whatwhatwhatwhat!!! Because that wasn't his gun's doing at all; he was still holding it defensively in that arm as a tonfa! That was his real arm's natural brute strength bitch!!! aaaahaha!!! wow I love it. The guy modestly says he's not much of a fighter but that's not trueeee at all, is it~ ;) I can SEE real proof of that otherwise and I can't wait for what else studio orange will show us to blow our minds.

*Ahem* So anyway did I ever mention how much I like the way he reverses the grip on his gun to use as a tonfa? (both defensively as a shield to protect himself and offensively to stun/strike his opponents with) For thematically how much it seamlessly works for his fighting style to never kill, for how the improvised (but practiced!) close-range practicality and versatility of it looks crazy awesome, and because damn, that shit's hot.

really funny when people talk about rotom devices like rotomphones and rotomdexes and rotomfridges and stuff and like they so obviously have no clue how they qctually work

if you put a rotom in a regular phone the rotom will brick it. it will overcharge the phone and just fuck it right up because theres nothing stopping it from doing that. same with any non rotom appliance or non rotomdex or the regular pc boxes not the ones they got in galar. like a rotom will fuck a normal fridge up

rotomdevices are SPECIFICALLY BUILT so that the rotom doesnt break it or do shit it shouldnt. hell by default a rotom is banned from all your apps except a text to speech app, calendar, notes app, stopwatch, photos, and a few other very limited apps on a rotomphone. you have to go into setings to allow other apps to be accessed by means other than the screen being touched and the screen being touched alone.

like i deliberately gave .zip tumblr privileges. your rotom cannot fuck with anything you have not given it permission to fuck with and theres certain shit you straight up cannot let it fuck with (they cannot access your settings app unless youre fucking with shit the manufacturers did not intend for you to fuck with so if your rotom gets into your settings its entirely ur fault because you cannot just fat finger the option for that)

most rotom appliances also come with remotes you can keep far away from the rotom so if it starts fucking around you can just. press a button and it boots the rotom out. some even allow you to LOCK your rotom out of it so it cant go in. rotomphones have similar functionality where you can just lock em out of your phone and provided it has leftover charge ur phone will work just fine

that brings me to the next point. depends on the device but rotomdexes have their more important features (like the actual dex) available to use without a rotom and rotomphones work entirely except for shit that would require a rotom like the floating stuff. as long as theyre properly charged up theyre fine.

because they dont?? sell rotom with the phone??? that would be fucked up and cruel while the rotomphone is a modified pokeball you arent just buying a rotom. there are breeders associated with most companies that sell rotom devices like the rotomphone company and will sell rotoms for the phones for cheaper provided they do an adequate background check, you can also just catch a rotom or just use the phone without ever getting a rotom. .zip has zero brand loyalty because my mom personally nabbed him from the wild

So honestly it kinda tracks that there hasn’t been a bunch of new uploads? Summer is super busy! There should be a spike in general around Halloween time ( which I think checks out bc I was lurking on here in oct/nov/dec and writers were writing like crazy 😭)
