i have to shift into my headcanon mode and rewatch the first season of tng just to make stuff about tasha yar. i love her but there is so much that bothers me + i would have done differently as a ukrainian myself
#the most prominent instance is her surname ofc. who thought that naming her after babi yar (a sight near kyiv where the most brutal#massacres of the world war two took place) was a good idea. i just think of someone naming a fiction character after one of the countless#massacres that took place during the current war and it makes me sick. there is no surname like that in ukrainian as far as i am aware#just make it yaremko or yaremchuk if you want to stick with yar (why) idk?? she would also be nataliia i think?#just thought about someone calling her natalka and cried a bit i need to make some sort of content about her right NEOW#returning to the yar thing. it also basically means pit/abyss. you can imagine how it was used in the context of massacres.#just WHY who decided that it would be a good idea.#i could also say something about her unfortunate fate but this makes her a true ukrainian in my eyes. she has that dog in her (zhurba)#my post#star trek#tasha yar#just had to make a small correction the most brutal massacres of the world war two *in ukraine
