i dont want to make a separate post for don henry au so ill just rb this post & continue my random thoughts

remembered bout it today bc thought bout lauretta & henry again but not the point ok

don henry au is such a fun thing i mean yeah alternative m2 ending but everyone is still miserable just in a different way

joe & vito still get the same lession from all this. they still see how something completely monstrous & terrible appears right in front of them. in this ver it's just henry

cold calculation and indifference, the triumph of selfishness and going over heads. ofc all their activities are basically walking over the heads - the only difference here is that now they see that the heads they need to walk on are in no way limited by personal connections. "if i tell you to kill your brother, you will do it." it should've been taken much more seriously, it's not a joke and not just beautiful dramatic words. nothing matters when it comes to power

"you need to grow the fuck up" <- henry baring his teeth at them with despise. analogue of "there's no such thing as friendship in this business". if carlo's mocking at vito a little, henry's being completely serious & there's some mercy here. maybe it's smth his mother or father said to him in his youth. he feels warmth towards joe and vito and he pities them a bit. they remind him himself in his youth. he's sure that being like this will make them miserable. they need to understand all this, needed to understand this earlier. now they see that he'd sell their heads without even blinking. and then he'd went to the church, said a pray and thought that he's forgiven. and then all this repeats endlessly. they need to live with this now, how no one's life really matters here and this is the only way to survive

lauretta tells him, being sincere, that his prayers won't save him bc henry acts a bit delusional here bc he does believe in god and he believes that he can be forgiven. he can think that he's a good man. he thinks he's being so merciful by leaving lauretta alone. but on the other hand he knows that he's doomed anyway. just a question of time, but now it doesn't matter
