1. V for Vendetta

You mean the critically acclaimed movie is good?! Holy shit. Honestly was not expecting to love it that much going it but I did, I sadly forgot to rewatch it in November, but I will soon! Because my parents want to watch it too.

2. Shin Godzilla

Again another well known one, but man, this is one of the few movies that have made my jaw drop while I'm watching them, the scene with the death ray made me speechless for a few minutes to the point my friends worried if I was okay for a few minutes. It's too much cinema

3. The Invisible Man

Yeah no this movie altered my brain chemistry. Look at my current pfp and it'll be obvious. Let's move on.

4. When Evil Lurks

A not so well known horror movie that honestly deserves so much praise, it is entertaining through its entirety and, while incredibly depressing, it never feels miserable. If you haven't watched it go do it now like now.

5. Fight Club

Another universally acclaimed one. It honestly subverted my expectations by being so insane. Not much else to say it's just very good.

6. Host

Another not so well known horror movie that more people should check out! Has a simple premise but uses it to its full potential and has some AMAZING scares.

7. The X trilogy (X, Pearl, MaXXXine)

This has become like my favorite movie trilogy ever. It's very hard to describe why I loved it so much, it's just. Man it's so good. Amazing characters, phenomenal direction and writing, I need Maxine Minx to kill me Who said that.

8. An American Werewolf in London

Again. What can I say about this movie that hasn't been said before. I will say something, I was NOT expecting it to be so funny

9. Without Warning

Oh god this one. This one is like. Oh fuck. So this one is a horror movie presented as a news broadcast reporting on a meteorite that fell on earth. That's all I'm gonna say. The ending made it hard to sleep for a few nights. The mom from Malcom in the middle is on it. Just watch it. It's free on YouTube. Watch it now.

10. The Substance

This movie changed my life for the better. Sorry if I'm running out of things to say it's just. MAN. This one is my favorite. Watch it like now.

in short, the answer is yes! BUT with some caveats/technically i have THREE answers to this question even. i mean there is an answer i give for what is my singular favourite but i am a deeply annoying person, so... so. first things first. if i had to narrow it down to just ONE era of joe as my favourite, it would be infinity on high era for sure. especially pre-beard, but with beard is great too.

A story about a Clown

Sweet Tooth’s very own lil guy circus, now travelling Kalos! A performance where only one man comes out on top, the clown himself. Aged somewhere between middle aged and “Young as a berry”, this clown will have you wishing you never crossed paths with such an entertaining enemy. He won’t wipe your party without cracking a few jokes along the way. He’s not afraid to play dirty, but for the sake of good showman ship he’ll start off fair.

Which would be fair information if I didn’t write it myself, huh? You never know when the shows gonna start, so make sure you have your tickets ready! Or don’t! You didn’t really have a choice. Participation IS mandatory! My pronouns are He/Him, but if don’t worry about forcing the words out of your mouth when you’re warning your friends about the c-c-c-c-c-c-clown.

hi! names padfoot! i am an adult, so this entire blog is adult run. this is my first time running something like this on tumblr!!! so i am very excited! Sweet Tooth is adapted from the Twisted Metal series! I say adapted because he has been tweaked just a bit to fit the setting, but he’s still a loveable evil clown either way. everything will be tagged either with basic pkmnirl or rp tags :)

as far as everything goes, the concept of adapting him in this way, his design, and his first three pokemon are all credited to @moderator-monnie and @lazy-charlie ! the current pfp and the forever existing reference art was done by lazy-charlie! 

pfp and banner will be updated with the full cast at some point or another, but for now its just the truck and such. the other three pokemon will be drawn up and posted whenever i’m able to do digital art again, so far now text based description is all you get :(

Hi I just wanted to ask if you have any tips on like organizing writing because currently I just make shit up as I go along and then that gets me burnt out rq

Cos I have like 3 Top Cat fanfics I wanna work on but then I get stuck almost immediately 😭

-The most important thing when you begin writing a story is to decide on the beginning, AND the end. The middle can always be handled as long as you have the destination in mind.

-A good story begins with a question/mystery, and must end with an answer to that question. [Eg. Spook left the gang and is roped up with another one. Will T.C. be able to get him back?]

-Show, don't tell: don't be a bodiless narrator of the story and don't try hitting readers on the head (DO YOU SEE THAT THING? DID YOU SEE WHAT JUST HAPPENED READER LOOOOOL). Just let events happen. Let characters breathe and talk. Let the readers come to their own conclusions as to what's really going on as if they're invisible spectators there in the middle of the action.

-Pay attention to how characters speak realistically: this is super important to make a character feel like a real person, not a parody. Be attentive to how people talk in general, both in real life and in good quality media. Realistic speech patterns, tics, accents, dialects, etc is very important.

-Although it's tempting, not every single character in your story needs to have their own full-blown arc. I mean, take Harry Potter for example. Amazing world building and characters, but not everyone is super important or central to the plot.

-Stories that reflect the human condition in their worldbuilding are more interesting to read. In CGaL, for example, one of the themes you'll find in the story is classism and power/wealth imbalance, if subtle.

-I'm forgetful and probably have some form of ADHD, so sometimes during the most random times of day an idea comes to my head and I immediately wanna put it into the story before I forget. That's what your Notes app on your phone is for. Write snippets, conversations, ideas, etc. as notes. They don't have to be pretty, you're just keeping them so you don't forget. Then copy them later to your story doc so you can eventually use them. For example, I have snippets written for what'll eventually be the last chapter of the story since like 2013. They're just sitting pretty for later.

-Pacing is very important. Your story - especially if multi-chaptered - shouldn't move too slowly, nor too fast. That's off-putting. Learning how to pace your story comes with practice, and with watching/reading other high-quality stories.

-Don't hesitate to delete entire pages if you think they're bringing down the story's quality. Don't fall for the Sunken Cost Fallacy. Sometimes you'll write a lot and then eventually decide it's just not working. Delete it and move on. What's important is the quality of the final version, not how many pages you wrote.

i just finished reading all of EGS yesterday, and i saw ur pfp on my dash! do you have any other webcomics youre a fan of?

A ton! too many to mention them all, really. I'll be restricting this to 'currently updating stuff', and comparing it specifically to EGS given your ask. That also means that I'll be ignoring some comics that are just completely different (such as any gag-a-day type stuff. XKCD may be a classic of the internet that you should read, but it's a weird recommendation after someone asks about EGS)

The other thing I don't really have recommendations for is if you liked the 'everyone transforms all the time' parts the most. There's a reason I stuck with reading EGS over The Wotch, and it's not just because the latter went on hiatus. I'm sure there's something to that taste somewhere, I'm just not reading it at the moment.

TL;DR: Questionable Content, Dumbing of Age, Paranatural, Gunnerkrigg Court, Girl Genius

For my first recommendation, I'm going with Questionable Content, which is less questionable than you'd assume from the title, and more questionable than you'd assume from this disclaimer. It started as a basic soap opera/endless pit of references to early 2000's indie rock (but there's a funny robot that makes punchlines), and is now a soap opera where the funny robots have feelings (but there's also still punchlines).

for comparison to EGS, I'm going with hammerchlorians as a stand in for the general trend both of them went through, folding early wacky concepts into a whole that can be surprisingly emotional. It's also still wacky fun.

Dumbing of Age is a reboot of the author's earlier webcomics. Instead of taking the above approach and slowly fold the weird aspects into a sense of normalcy for the setting, Willis decided to just do a reboot of the universe, with the same characters, back in college, but no aliens this time (except fictional).

The closest EGS equivalent is end of an era, the arc where Sarah and Elliot break up, but really it's just every bit where magic takes a backseat to relationships, introspection, and growth.

I'd be remiss not to mention the comic being both funny and having action pieces, though. Those are just a lot more realistic. Also, Walky is a trans girl (she just hasn't figured that out yet (and I'm not sure the author has either (I can tell though))).

Next up, Paranatural. I'm actually a bit behind on this one, but it's really really good. It switches from a more traditional comic style to a more illustrated novel type thing partway through, but it's really really good.

It had a lot less 'folding in concepts' to do than my other examples so far, but that's because the author went in with a plan. And that plan was to write the funniest trauma a middle schooler could get. The entirety of the hitball sequence is a sight to behold. If you click on nothing else, read Paranatural.

The closest thing EGS did was Sister 3, my favourite arc. Both do 'set up a magic thing/pay off the magic thing' combined with character growth at the highest quality.

Gunnerkrigg Court is an english boarding school mystery featuring magic and robots and psychopomps and psychic powers. It seems to be nearing completion, with most of the basic mysteries solved and the questions shifting to 'now what'.

There haven't been many real Mystery elements in EGS, at least none where our protaganists are actively trying to solve it. The current Uryoms arc will probably be the closest thing we can currently see by the end, but even that's giving us more answers than it's giving the characters. If you want something Magical, but with a different vibe, read Gunnerkrigg.

Finally, Girl Genius. Girl Genius is about a young mad scientist reckoning with the mad science performed by mad scientists of the past, together with her two boyfriends (who are also mad scientists)

The closest EGS arc is any where Tedd does Mad Science, but especially the last parts of Title Pending, aka party 2. 'some device had unintended consequences and now it's up to our mad scientists to throw science at it until the device does what they want' is a description of half the arcs in girl genius (the other arcs in girl genius have other characters cause the problems on purpose (it's still solved with either mad science or swords (sometimes the swords are mad science)))

This concludes my list. the other thing these comics have in common is being pretty long-running. There's absolutely newer comics out there worthy of reading, and I'm always looking for more recommendations myself.

To be perfectly honest, Tavina is a character that middle school me came up with for a novel (The full name is Tavina Arax Vale which. Is the most middle school of OC names truly.) Nowadays it's like: I'm Tavina and I write so!

1. I was really into vocaloid as a middle schooler, around the beginnings of its presence on YouTube, although I’m just a metal head now.

2. I’m really bad at following through on personal projects. I currently have a jacket I’m trying to put my favorite bands on the back of, but I keep on procrastinating it.

3. This is kind of gruesome, but I was mauled by a dog when I was very young, although I don’t have any fear towards dogs now.

4. I feel a need to write and type with perfect grammar, but I have a hard time speaking properly sometimes.

5. I went to several years of speech therapy to speak verbally, and I do now, but I have trouble sometimes. It’s probably the undiagnosed autism.

6. When I was 8, I told a girl, who was holding a small snail, that snails breathe though their feet. She proceeded to step on it. This was in a church 💀

7. My pfp and banner are teletubbies because I used to love the show as a child. I still have one of those 3-ish foot tall teletubby stuffed animals (?) at my childhood home.

8. I love baking! I don’t do it often because I’m busy, but it brings me a lot of joy!

1. I used to be big into cosplay. I used to hand make cosplay costumes, props, and once even attempted to make a wig. I have only ever been to a few conventions but I miss the community I used to share with fellow cosplayers pre-Covid.

2. I had an Anime Amino if anyone remembers that app. This was back during an age before discord. Back during the time I took a break from Tumblr (2015-17? Maybe) I started on Amino to look for community and friendship during a time I felt like I had none. Amino was literally just a mix of Tumblr with random blogs and discord with its chat rooms option. People mostly used it for RPs and other community events. It was a great time honestly kinda sad they killed the site.

3. I love weird ass music. I’m not talking like “oh that new album by famous artist with a weird name” no! I’m talking music that will make normal people run screaming into the next room. Give me remixed pirate/Viking songs all day long. You don’t even have to remix them. I’ll take them as is if you’re feeling spicy. Heavy metal versions of songs that have no right being metal (Disney songs, pop songs, country). 🤤. Those artists are doing gods work. Random 80’s songs. The sluttiest dirtiest music you can think of. Jazz. All of it man I love all of it as long as it’s weird.

4. My very first fan fiction was written on fan fiction.net. I used to have two accounts it was because I forgot my password for the first one but then I used the second account more than the first so it all worked out. I kinda want to archive the stuff from those accounts onto AO3 even though I’m not in those fandoms anymore. Just so I have the content.

5. My first ever crushes were on Shego and Kim Possible from said show. I didn’t know how to verbalize this as a kid so I told everyone I loved Justin Timberlake from *NSYNC.

6. I’ve been thinking about publishing a few books. I have some ideas for a few novels, series, and kids books. I just don’t know where to start or even if they’re worth while.

7. I have two dogs and two cats! My puppies names are Maizy and Chihiro. They are both Labs and are just the cutest angel babies! My cats are Eevee and Oreo. Eevee is chunk rescue baby. Oreo is our prissy princess who needs to be held at all times.

8. I have never once reset one of my animal crossing villages. I’ve had three on three different games. Game Cube, DS, and Switch. I always do my best to name the village perfectly , I would do anything in my power to have the perfect neighborhood/ villagers, I would even piss off Mr. resetti back when he was a thing just to get a second chance to try an interaction again.

9. I’m thinking about starting to stream on Twitch. Nothing too serious. Just something fun that I can try to do!

10. I am a huge collector. I collect many things lol old books, (first editions, cool instructional books, books published earlier than 1955, All the Stephen King novels), ART! I love art. All of it. Prints from artists I buy from. Hand made pieces I randomly find at art fairs and craft shows, paintings, those mystery boxes that hold figurines in them I fucking love them so god damned much.
