i was rereading the Phantom Hourglass manga and honestly as much as i dislike the whole "actually Linebeck was honorable all along" interpretation it has, i respect that it cuts out like half the game's content in favor of giving Jolene an actual role in the story instead of just being the lady who Linebeck fucked over. She literally helps save the world and that's really nice to see. She was cool. Also the fact that Tetra was allowed to have her actual personality from Wind Waker carry over instead of barely having any presence except to be damseled. She was still damseled but like. she also got to have personality.

I also reread the Minish Cap manga, which is perfect and flawless.

Also i reread the Four Swords manga, which is really cool and good. I love the way Shadow Link is explored as just some guy who wants friends but has no reference for kindness and STILL TRIES SO HARD BECAUSE HE CARES. And also the fact that the maidens actually get to help the characters! also the fact that they perfectly replicated how completely dysfunctional a team the game actively encourages the players to be within the actual plot of the manga!!! it's so neat!

How to Train Your Dragon

I'm so so obsessed with this franchise, I'm not even sure where to start on why I love it. I actually have a toothless tattoo! and like, six toothless plushies that my friends and I call the council. The show race to the edge for it is one of my favourite parts, but nothing will top the first movie for me. There's just something so magical about it. It's truly beautiful, every time I watch it I genuinely feel like my heart is soaring <3 A lot of people don't know that the shows exist but I think they're so good and silly, they're such a comfort for me.

Servamp

This is a manga I always end up going back to again and again. I'm sure people have put it better than i could, but it reflects a very real and flawed human experience (despite the vampires lol). It feels like each and every side character gets so much depth, and everyone has their own journey, and its a very sympathetic and nuanced with its antagonists. The main pair grow SO much as people over the course of the story, and they build up plot twists so fucking well, ive watched it unfold and still felt like it was all planned from the very beginning. Also has british vampire catboy who goes 'meow' in the most serious deep voice ever, my beloved.

The Legend of Zelda

I'm counting this as one because I feel this way about most of the games, they're all so special to me in different ways. Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom I've loved playing, I felt so immersed in the world in such little ways, and all the small interactions with the people in that world felt so real and made me care about it. Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are also so incredible and such wonderful stories, and I have such a soft spot for Skyward Sword, idk I couldn't choose a favourite if I tried. I've loved them since I was a kid so its hard to pinpoint what exactly it is that draws me to them.

Jing Wei Qing Shang/Clear and Muddy Loss of Love

TOXIC LESBIANS. I fear that since i've read JWQS no sapphic media will ever be good enough for me again, its insane how perfectly to my taste it was. The main chara can telepathically communicate with horses in an otherwise normal non-fantasy world and there's no explanation or even plot necessity for it, its so perfect for me. Qiyan, the MC, has so much gender. She's a malewife, she's a pathetic boyfriend, she's a lesbian, she's a boygirl, she's everything. The premise is that Qiyan, in her quest for revenge, ends up accidentally in an arranged marriage to the daughter of her enemy. And despite falling in love with her, she continues with her revenge anyway, prepared for the love of her life to kill her with her own hands when its over. There's so much emotion on both sides, its overflowing love and hatred and anger and bitterness and affection all at once. It truly is a whole journey to get through and I've been a changed man since.

Scum Villain's Self-Saving System

Another one I'm so batshit over that I don't know if any series will ever replicate. They're so insane. Shen Qingqiu's unreliable narration is so funny but also so fascinating to unpack, there's so much to read in what he doesn't say. It's so funny, but then when you think about what's really happening, it's kind of horrifying, there's this constant whiplash. The whole premise of one persons impact changing the story, the very narrative itself, is sooo important to me on so many levels. Bingqius dynamic is so incredible to me too, they're just so insane and so much fun to read. They've always stuck with me.

MILGRAM PROJECT

I LOVE MILGRAM it's a song story project told through music videos and audio dramas! The producer is one of my favourite artists, DECO*27, and every song is consistently a banger. Every character has such an interesting, nuanced story, and as the audience you're challenged to figure it out yourself based on the clues, and your interaction decides where the story goes. It's so much fun seeing a new MV come out and everyone come together to theorise and discuss. It's still ongoing, and very easy to get into, so I always recommend it! My favourite prisoner is Fuuta :)

Voltron

Okay look. The question said favourite media, not explicitly media I thought was good. It is a show that is very very dear to my heart, and I think it fucking sucks after a certain point. The PREMISE is so so good, it had so much going for it on concept, and the characters carried it. I got so attached to them, I love their silly dynamics and they're so funny. I really do love the first few seasons, and I love the potential for what it could've been :') I very frequently text my best friend to rewrite parts of the lore.

AND YEAAA relating to favorite characters is a super nice thing, I know what you mean!! ^o^ Seeing Undertale trending again recently for the anniversary made me nostalgic for all the self-indulgent headcanon art I used to draw of Alphys, haha!

I will say, it’s kind of weird because lately I haven’t had One Big All-Consuming interest like I usually did in the past (except for maybe Game Grumps and Ninja Sex Party which have still been staples for me xD), I’ve been trying to expand my horizons during quarantine and I’m starting a lot of new shows & games!!! I gotta give my partner tons of credit for introducing me to new things I never would have checked out on my own, without him I’d probably still be watching the same old Game Grumps compilations and nothing else, lol. It’s been AWESOME discovering new interests!

During lockdown I have:

- Watched all of the Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure anime and just finished part 6 of the manga! You don’t even know how hard I resisted getting into this series, but sometime around part 4 I got nearly as obsessed as bf xD Emphasis on nearly, hehe. But seriously, I love this series! I met some awesome new characters too! I really love some of the sillier characters like Narancia and Foo Fighters, but Jotaro has grown on me like a LOT!! I love this fella, especially in part 4. Joseph was the first person that made me interested in the show!

- Watched and read all of Beastars so far! Excited for season 2 to be animated! The manga is definitely all over the place, but still made for some really interesting friend discussions! 

- Started Hunter x Hunter 2011, as well as some of the 1999 episodes! It got to a SUUUPER slow point so I haven’t finished it, but people have been convincing me to stick with it for the Chimera Ant arc which is supposedly the best xD Mostly I just ADORE Gon and Killua’s dynamic, as well as their friends Kurapika and Leorio! I feel like the series is a little bit confusing and isn’t storytelling to its max potential, but I have some favorite bits for sure!

- Re-awakened a Spongebob obsession xD I got the game Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated and beat it, SUCHHHH a good game!! It inspired me to watch a ton of old episodes (seasons 1-3 of course) which was very nostalgic and made me remember how genuinely hilarious of a cartoon it was.

- Played tons of Animal Crossing! I sort of burnt out on ACNH like most ppl stuck at home with a Switch, but I’m happy with my island (named Daffodil!) and the love I put into it! It served as some crucial escapism at the start of this wackiness, lol

- Beaten Mario Galaxy for the very first time!! This was a hyperfocus-y highlight for me, I beat the game in under 3 days and LOVED every second!! Mario Galaxy is such a delightful game!

- Started Majora’s Mask 3DS! My mom also got a copy so the two of us could play together! I ended up getting MUCH farther in the game than her since I’d played the first part a few times when I was younger, but I don’t know if I’ll ever beat it, haha. The 3DS remake made some changes from the original that bummed me out, so I’m taking a break until I’m inspired again :P Maybe I’ll just play through Ocarina of Time again?

- Played Fall Guys with my pals!! Honestly I’m craving this game again, maybe after typing this post I’ll play some, hehe.

- Started Pokemon Journeys (the anime) with bf!!!! I LOVE this show, I think it’s the best Pokemon anime yet! Lots of very cute Pikachu moments which is important to me, and lots of content that really takes full advantage of the Pokemon world!

- Got into Rock-Afire Explosion with bf! I feel weird talking so much about him on here since he doesn’t have a tumblr account and most likely doesn’t read these posts, but he’s been a huge part of my life :P Anyways, this guy is the Rock-Afire KING, it’s been a lot of fun listening to their (shockingly) good songs and seeing the project he’s been working on for it! I’ve grown a huge fondness for Billy Bob, he is a sweet boy with a sweet voice.

- Started Neon Genesis Evangelion! I’m actually super close to finishing this anime, it REALLY got cool and interesting! I’m glad about not being spoiled Too much despite seeing it everywhere online for most of my teenagehood, haha. One of the more serious things I’ve watched lately, but I find stories like this to be cathartic :P

- And arguably most importantly, Avatar the Last Airbender!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy MOLY! This is one of those things that ppl have been pressuring me to get into for Years, and now that I have, I wish I could go back in time and pester myself alongside my friends, haha! I binged a whole season’s worth on a sick day, I just really Really love every character, and the writing, and the worldbuildinG, it’s all fantastic and it’s all been said before xD I also caved and bought the entire collection of The Search and The Promise of the comic series!!! Just read the rest of it last night, I am in awe over how fantastic Avatar really is!! I think that alongside Jojo, Avatar has been a world that really helped me through the weirdness of these past months xD

I also have been thinking a lot about my furry characters, lol :P I’ve commissioned and drawn  so much art of my OCs, they just all make me so happy! Especially my fursona Twinkie of course, I feel so connected with this goofball cat! I want to maybe develop a comic for my characters and make a world for them, but all of my motivation is being dedicated to art classes :P

ANYWAYS!! I finally made a little ref sheet for my Au boy? maybe a Linksona at this point? But I finally made it so ooooooh booooy

I was really shy about making this, I just wanted to get some thoughts down about him and well I didnt say everything about him because I kinda wanna make a comic about him, a real long one and so there is some misc info in that text block and some thats not..? sorry I hope someone enjoys this giant mess of an info dump （*´▽｀*）

Because of his insomnia he can usually be found sleeping outside a little ways away from his house, just walk around in the tall grass until the random encounter pops up.

He’s actually very shy about how tall he is, it makes snuggling a problem because he always wants to be the little spoon and he is a very big boy

His cloak is all purpose, keeps him warm, keeps him cool, uses it as a blanket and an umbrella, its got a little hood to it too and it makes him (supposedly) look cool when paired with his Keaton mask

he uh....he really likes animals, he thinks cuccos are pretty cute and sometimes naps in the coop with them, he wakes up surounded by eggs and covered in feathers  

Actually his favorite is Horses, while living in the forest Mido and the rest of the Kokiri would scavenge for stuff outsiders dropped and once they found a book on horse care, even though he couldent read it Timie got really excited about the idea of horses, you don’t understand how hard he screamed when he came across Lon Lon Ranch

He also has a softspot for Dragons

When I said in denial carnivore I ment OMNIVORE, he gets spooked by meat and gets sick when he has anything beef related, its probably because he’s just not used to it, cucco is usually a no because he claims he “can’t eat cute things” which is a flat out lie, he thinks pigs are cute but would eat a ham samwitch anytime

.....also he eats monster parts so....octorock tentacle soup is a thing, turns out he can eat them because of the triforce of courage (for anyone that has followed my main and seen Naga, he ccan do the same thing, the triforce of courage needs more ablities other than makes the posessor brave, even if its just dumb stuff scdvfbg) 

He sits around on his roof and plays that Ocarina whenever he feels, if he was better at reading sheet music he would of become a musician instead of a jack of all trades master of absolutly nothing he does

So not being good at things lemme just say real fast he can’t use magic outside his crystals, if he tries to use magic naturally he will get a bad headache and worse, the only thing he has been able to do so far is light a candle and collapse

Did I mention he’s a fast learner? from what happened in oot and mm he usually never makes the same mistake twice

The boy is a solar panel! Timie falls asleep outside so much not because he just randomly falls asleep, but because he likes the feel of the sun’s warmth, also possibly it’s just that he believed he was a plant once and just wanted to be a normal Kokiri who did the photosynthesis so it’s just become a force of habit to sleep in a sunny area

His first pet was Volvagia, not the REAL Ancient Dragon Volvagia but it’s baby, turns out dragon eggs can delay hatching and stay viable for long periods of time until put in fire, like brine shrimp eggs until put into water. Timie still calls Saria mom and goes to her for advise on almost everything

So he has two kids wow what a dad two kids wow, he absolutly adores his babies and would die for them, Aya is his daughter she’s 6 and his son Leif is 3, when Aya was born he couldent be seperated from her seriously he just wanted to hold her all day he was crying actually wait more like sobbing he couldent believe it.

For some reason Timie never uses shields anymore? He never seems to take it out anymore and it might have to do with that he realized he was using it less and less during the events of Majora’s Mask

Speaking of Majora’s Mask, Tatl started to give him a bunch of nicknames like greenie, time guy, sourpuss, stone face, music dude, man of the hours, lord of all wibbily wobbily time shenanigans, or just straight up calling him a bitch....Timie was one of the more nicer ones and he took a liking to it, it’s unknown WHY he started to call himself that

Did I mention his figure is a pun kinda???? maybe not a pun but a really bad joke can you guess what it is????

One last thing: Timie clings to others for guidance and emotional support because he lacks stability while he’s alone. Navi leaving was one of the worst moments in his life, right behind losing the Deku Tree. Timie's last boyfriend leaving took a serious emotional toll on him, as Timie genuinely saw as an anchor. He has some difficulty functioning normally when he can't be around the person he loves. It's not like he'll get weird and uncomfortable when he’s going to get groceries, but when there's no way he can be around them for months.

 When traveling alone he wears his keaton mask; not because of symbolism or something, but because it makes him look cool. Realize though, when I say he doesn't function normally, his personality ends up changing. He has a fake confidence to him and becomes like...? A trickster type, or something. He might also snatch up your rupees because he needs food. Don’t say you’ll kick his ass, because he’ll threaten to eat your fingers. It’s real easy to get him to stop doing this kind of BS, though. Call his bluff and he’ll shrivel up back into the big baby he is and will probably go home (even if he’ll be lonely there).

ZeLink, MaLink, NabsGan, NabsImpa, Midlink, MidZeLink, Shink, Hildavio (Hilda/Ravio) Fierce Deity/Hylia, Tingle/A burning abyss.

Alright, rapid fire thoughts and one line headcanons. For the more ambiguous ones I’m going to assume OoT characters are being referenced.

ZeLink: Cute! Before Link left for Termina I imagine he spent a lot of time at the castle just being great child hood friends with Zelda and getting up to all kinds of hijinks. By the time he got back from his adventure in MM, even Zelda’s father was joking about them practically being engaged. It wasn’t until they were both a bit older (late teens, early 20′s) and had gone through a few failed romances with other partners that they realized “Whoops, we’ve fallen in love.”

MaLink: Like MidLink years latter, I hold this to be the definitive ship for Ocarina of Time. (As far as that particular Link goes, I thin Romani is a better option but we’re just looking at OoT here). We know for an absolute fact that Malon is one of the people Link reached out and reconnected with after being sent back to the child timeline since he borrows and uses Epona again for the events of Majora’s Mask. From Malon’s perspective, it would be pretty shocking if one day a young boy in green clothes swept into the ranch, immediately befriended the most temperamental horse in the entire herd with a song only you knew and rode off into the sunset. The mystery alone would be enough to drive her crazy (assuming Link didn’t ask to use Epona beforehand, and even if he did). Talon would tease her about her obsession, calling it a crush. When Link eventually returned to Hyrule, he’d be met with a barrage of questions about where he went, where he came from and how the hell he know’s Epona’s song. Malon would declare herself Link’s rival and compete with him over who Epona likes more. This rivalry eventually blossoms into romance which leads to marriage and kids. Fast forward YEARS and we find a new Link growing up in a small ranch/farming community south of Castle Town with his own Epona and yeah I think y’all can see where I’m going with this. Hyrule Historia says that TP Link is a direct descendant of OoT Link and I think we all know who OoT Link ended up with to make it happen. Case closed.

NabsGan: Ganondorf was actually an honorable man once, with good intentions for the betterment of his people. Nabooru respected that quite a bit until Twinrova stepped in and started seeding thoughts of the Triforce and an open coup against Hyrule in his head. It’s safe to say that Ganondorf may have had feelings for Nabooru as well, at least before he succumbed to the influence of Demise. I like to think a small part of him regretted what happened to her after he went bad.

MidLink/MidZelLink: Have already been covered extensively on this blog, including the previous post to this one. While I am all for polyamory, I sadly have no experience with either observing it or writing it. Also TP Zelda is kind of hard to write for since she played such a minor role.

Shink: Did this one already but oh man is Link gay as hell for Shiek. Seven years of hormones all hitting his system at once and he has no idea how to deal. Actually makes Shiek’s disappearing acts a lot easier since Link ends up in a daze whenever he’s around.

Hildavio: CUTE. Ravio went through a lot of trouble to help restore Lorule (or at least that’s what he’d have you believe) and Hilda knows it. I can just imagine Ravio trying to be suave, charming and romantically roguish only to completely beef it somehow. Hilda of course laughs and scoops him up in a big hug and delivers smooches.

Fierce Deity/Hylia: So what if the Fierce Deity is actually the spirit of the first Hero as depected in the Skyward Sword manga featured in Hyrule Historia? After sacrificing himself to ensure the safety of Hylia’s chosen people as they escaped into the sky, he somehow ascended to Godhood. Perhaps it was a gift from the Triforce or the Golden Goddesses or Hylia herself. We know that Hylia had grown very fond of and attracted to this Link, which is why she set the beginning stages of the Hero Cycle to begin with. I posit that a small piece of the Fierce Deity exists within the soul of each incarnation of the Hero, Link. Hylia established this cycle of reincarnation and rebirth to allow for herself and the Fierce Deity to be together in some fashion or another for forever and eternity. Of course Demise had to come back and mess things up but the whole thing is incredibly romantic.

My Life as a Shipper

I’m not sure I can accurately name this post since it’s not an attempt to comprehensively go over every ship I’ve ever shipped.  I just wanna share some things.  And this won’t exactly be chronological either.   Some of this reminiscing is about Fan Fiction I did read, but plenty is also more about stuff I imagined, that I would have written myself if I wasn’t so lazy. It may surprise my followers (if any exist) to learn that my earliest ships were all Het, I’ve been a Yuri shipper for a long time now, but not quite from the start.  And to a certain extent I’ve never abandoned my Het shipping, I am still ultimately a Cis-Het Male after all. Early on I did a lot of imagining myself into shows having storylines with the female characters I was attracted to. My first real ship was shipping Dawn and Spike from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. It’s weird looking back on that now since it’s not the kind of thing I’m likely to ship today at all.  But I have fond memories of exploring now long dead Dawn themed fan fiction sites, where I mostly got into stories about this ship but did read others.  And for context you should know I’m exactly the same age as Michelle Trachtenberg, so I wasn’t seeing Dawn as the little girl of the show, she was rather the only character I could come close to seeing myself in.  But I shipped with Spike not because I had any attraction to James Marsters, but because she canonically had a crush on Spike and so I wanted her to get what she wanted. The early Het Ships I shipped that I still care about are the Zelda ones interestingly enough.  I was a big Link and Malon shipper, which included Link/Marin and Link/Romani and also Link/Cremia.  I read an old Zelda Universe article called The Girl with the Red Hair: Malon + Link, which I really liked, and it still exists. https://zeldauniverse.net/2010/11/28/the-girl-with-the-red-hair/ I think that’s a reposting however, because it’s dated to 2010 and I’m confident I’d read this before Twilight Princess came out.  Because as we were learning more about it I felt like it was confirming the theory of that article, TP Link must descend from the Hero of Time and Malon.   YouTube videos about Malon theorizing seem to be when on her as a love interest mostly just indirectly repeating that article but then adding the TP element. The Fan Fiction I was into back then, on both the Dawn subject and the Zelda subject, included a lot of angst.  I was into scenarios about triangles and jealousy and unrequited love.  Some of them even got pretty Dark.  I think I would have become a Non-Monogamous shipper sooner if I’d simply learned of that being an option sooner.  But make no mistake, my current desire for everyone being happy in the end stories doesn’t mean I don’t see the appeal of melodrama.  A number of Dawn fics were between seasons 5 and 6 or between episodes of season 6. I was also interested in the idea of stories about a post Majora’s Mask Link having his dark side drawn out by the Fierce Deity Mask. It’s hard to say where my Femslash interest truly began.  When I was into Dawn fics I read some Femslash ones about her, some with Buffy, some with Faith, possibly one with Tara.  But they weren’t what I actively shipped. Noir was my introduction to Yuri.  I first stumbled upon that show by surfing my family's On Demand service and seeing it on Anime Network On Demand, where episode 9, the second part of a two parter, was the earliest episode currently up.  Watching that episode was the first time I ever saw 2D Girls Kiss.  And as I continued the show I got really into Chloe and her unrequited feelings for Kirika.  However it took awhile strangely for me to realise Kirika and Mireille were also canon, I still had some heteronormativity to get over.  I remember that the first time I saw the word Yuri was on Noir’s IMDB forum, someone had posted a thread called “Noir Yuri Pics” or something and I originally assumed it must mean something more specific then just gay. Around then was also when I started actually reading DC Comics, and Stephanie Brown became my favorite Comic Book character, and it didn’t take long for me to start shipping her with Cassandra Cain.  But another niche Het Ship I supported was Tim Drake and Darla Aquista.  I also like Linkara supported the controversial Donna Troy and Terry Long relationship.  There an old fansite I really liked that is no gone called Donna Troy Woman and Hero. I’ve also engaged in some Pokemon shipping over the years.  More so game characters though, filling in the blank slate that is Leaf.  Anime wise that I like May and Dawn way more than Misty makes me pretty controversial.  My imagination always treated Lass as a single character rather than a class.  A Fille Fatale who flirts with both Red and Leaf.  Basically there were little if any existing fanfics I found to serve my tastes there.  I did enjoy a series on FanFiction.Net about Leaf and Dawn. I was also someone who’s interest in the Twilight ignited Vampire craze lead me to research the Pre-Dracula stuff, which lead to me reading and really liking Carmilla.  Because of Paul Feval that Vampire interest lead into and overlapped with my French Pulp Fiction interest which allowed me to learn about Eugenie Danglars and Louise d’Armilly. The Vampire craze also lead me to The Vampire Diaries, where I found another of my top Het Ships, Jeremy and Anna, played by Stephen R McQueen and Malese Jow.  That ship was prominent in my early Tumblr activity. Then came the era of Pretty Little Liars being my favourite TV show, I became a strong Sparia shipper and looked into other ships as well. Back to Zelda.  Prior to Skyward Sword I quite liked how Nintendo was mostly avoiding making Link and Zelda a couple.  But then Hyrule Warriors comes along implying they’re always destined to fall in love and I was quite annoyed.  So I’ve always had hostility towards Link/Zelda shipping.  However the Skyward Sword Prequel Manga included in the Hyrule Historia (which I saw glimpses of before I properly got to read it) kinda won me over on it.  Though that’s technically Link and Hylia. Zelda is one franchise where my Het Shipping is still strong.  But I have became a supporter of Zelda Femslash.  For both Skyward Sword and Hyrule Warriors I like to ship Zelda with Impa, and for Twilight Princess I like Zelda/Midna, and I see Ashe as a Lesbian on principle.  I also now support the theory that Cremia actually had feelings for Anju in Majora’s Mask. I developed an interest in various Tolkien and Silmarillion related Femslash ships.  Like Nienor Niniel and Nellas, as well as viewing Nessa, Haleth and Ter-Telperien as Lesbians. I started a FInal Fantasy Femslash tumblr that I’ve mostly let die since my interests there are limited.  I ultimately view Terra Branford as Asexuel and yet I still crave material about her and Celes.  I also strongly support Agrias and Ovelia from Final Fantasy Tactics. Since getting much more actively into Anime starting in 2014 there are a lot of ships I’ve become supporters of, from Magical Girls to Cute Girls Doing Cute Things to the better Harems, and the occasional specifically Yuri show/OVA.  But I’ve supported some Het stuff too and even learned to appreciate Yaoi and Traps.  But strangely nothing I’ve found in the last year and a half has really compelled me the way my old ships did.  Though perhaps they just need time, again I haven’t been rewatching stuff as much as I used to. However recently learning about SaGa Frontier thanks to Yahweasel has made me a supporter of the Femslash potential it provides.
