“So I’m a level 2 Tiefling Warlock named what?” Talon asked as he sat down at the Naysmith dining room table, his mother busy clearing it off for them so that his younger brother Treant could properly set up for the night, practically bouncing as he responded with Erembour. Talon raised his eyebrows when his brother handed him his character sheet, impressed not only with the fact that he went through the trouble of making characters and writing out a whole campaign for them, but that he found the time to do so. Nevertheless, he was happy to see he wasn’t sinking too much of his energy into his studies that he could still make time for game night.
As his eyes scanned the paper, there was a light knock at the door, to which Treant hopped up to with almost superhuman reaction time while Talon stayed put to get more familiar with his character. It was so long since he played a game of Dungeons & Dragons that he was afraid he might be a little rusty. “Who’s coming over to play again?” He asked to his mother who sat down to look over her own character sheet, looking as perplexed as ever.
“I think one of his study partners?” She replied, flipping the page over to read what was undoubtedly Treant’s tips for her in case she got lost if her relieved expression was anything go off of. “I think it’s just the one though so it’ll be the four of us unless you want to invite Thalia over…” She trailed off, looking up to share a cheeky glance with Talon, who’s response interrupted by Treant pointing out where the kitchen and bathroom were in the house.
“And this is is my mom and brother. They’ll be our wizard and warlock for our party. I know you made your sheet already, but what did you say you were again?” Talon stayed glued to his seat, figuring the setting was informal enough that he could just wait until everyone was sitting down to meet his friend. Still his latent curiosity prompted him to turn his head to look over his shoulder, shocking him to what- or rather who he saw standing in his home as he lived and breathed. He locked eyes with Bo, and while a hundred thoughts rushed through his head, mainly having to do with what sort of lottery tickets he should be buying with these odds.
Bo had been worried he wouldn't find the house, he wasn't exactly good with directions. But a few texts with Treant once he got off the bus and it was easy enough to get there. He triple checked that he'd brought everything he needed- sure he'd done it before he left, but what if he left something on the bus? A grin spreading across his face he knocked on the front door, bouncing on the balls of his feet. It was barely a moment before the door popped open, and he grinned at his friend. "Hey Treant! You ready to play?"
He popped his shoes off at the door- a habit he'd learned through several battles with his mother over the years. He made sure to note the bathroom down the hall as they passed towards the kitchen as it was pointed out. Treant was obviously excited to get started- he rushed through the basic tour in about a minute as he practically dragged Bo towards the table. A wry smile ghosted across his face. Treant was one of the few people he knew that could talk as quickly when they were excited.
His eyebrow popped up at the sight of Talon peering down at a character sheet as they walked in. He'd known the two were brothers- social media worked wonders and Bo had had plenty of time to go digging since their first meeting at the bar so long ago. Maybe it shouldn't have been obvious that Treant's full grown brother would be here, but Bo couldn't find it in him to be surprised.
He smiled and waved a hello at Mrs. Naysmith when Treant pointed her out. At his friend's question he brightened and started to dig into his bag. "Well I wanted to try something new this time, and you mentioned we might need a healer. I've never played a paladin before- I know, I know, they're only half-casters. I usually go with dex based classes, but you know, there's uh... some things I've been hoping to learn how to do and I think trying this out might help even if we haven't gotten to subclasses yet!" He smiled serenely at Talon when he noticed the staring. Maybe the bartender journalist hadn't realized he'd be coming?
"I've got a few things to lay out, which seat is mine?" he asked Treant. Would it be awkward to get water for himself? Treant had said there would be food at some point, but it never hurt to have a drink on hand. "Do you mind if I uh," he finished the question with a point towards the kitchen. Playing a high charisma character might be harder than expected...
