The most successful Croatian actors abroad, who play the main roles in the play 'Equinocija' at the Dubrovnik Summer Games, discover what the atmosphere is like at rehearsals led by director Krešimir Dolenčić and recall their summers in Dubrovnik where their professional paths have never crossed before.

Location: Croatian National Theater in Zagreb. Weather: three in the afternoon, end of the week, heat, steam. Wardrobe no. 106, make-up artist, hairdresser, Gloria's team and two of the most outstanding actors of contemporary Croatia - Zrinka Cvitešić (44), laureate of the highest British theater award Olivier, and Goran Višnjić (52), our most successful representative in Hollywood.

The reason for the meeting: the Dubrovnik Summer Games and their collaboration on the play "Equinocija" by Ivo Vojnović, directed by Krešimir Dolenčić. Goran plays a rich returnee from America, Nika Marinović, and Zrinka plays his love from his youth, Jela. This time, Višnjić did not return from America, but from Great Britain, where he lives with his family in the southwest of the island - in Cornwall, while Cvitešić is still at two addresses, one in Zagreb and one in London with his partner, former soccer player Niko Kranjčar .

In preparation for our recording, Zrinka and Goran excitedly exchange impressions from the rehearsal they just came from. Both she and he have the text with their notes in their hands and are commenting on younger colleagues from the play's team - whose performance they are delighted with. Lovers of acting recognize each other, one might say. Director Krešimir Dolenčić , however, did not choose this "duo fantastikus" by chance.

"Nothing is a coincidence, and then again, it is. We met by chance after a performance at the &TD Theater and then he told me that he had a meeting the next day regarding the Games and that we would talk to each other when he knew exactly what it was about. I am in that moment I said that I would like to work at the Games, I just don't know when and which show. And then he called me the next day and offered to do "Equinocia", to which I immediately said - come on! Krešo and I have known each other for almost thirty years. ever since he was an assistant to our professor Neva Rošić at the Acting course. When I was a student, he gave me a scholarship at Gavella," recalls Goran Višnjić with a laugh.

Zrinka agrees with the statement and complements the answer with his memory. "An actor should be very lucky to work with directors like Krešo in his career. I've had very few of them so far - they're directors you don't ask what, how, why... When you're invited to a project, you just ask them when and where you should come. They are unreservedly guided, inspired, and loved by you. It's nice to come back to Kreša after more than ten years, but we both asked ourselves - is it really so?! Because we both feel like we've worked together before. In short, we had a great time at the rehearsals. The ensemble is not big and after a week we have become like a small family. The young actors Lara Nekić and Karlo Mrkša are wonderful and curious actors. It's best when it's created together, when there's no "this is not my scene and I'm not interested in it". The most beautiful ideas are born from togetherness, this has been confirmed to me again and again throughout my life, and so it is this time," says the actress who, together with Goran Višnjić, recalled her first associations with the Games, and they also revealed to us something about their summer plans.

So we've been out on the road all day and then we spent some time at my mom's house so I couldn't upload these till now. I did this a year ago but I wanted to redo this better.

Jela's eyes and how and why they change.

This is how his eyes normally look, no matter if he's happy, annoyed, sad or even pretty pissed off. This is just normal state in human form.

Seeing this pretty much means shit just got real. He's beyond pissed off. Listen, this man is the most chilled person you could ever hope to come across, it takes EFFORT to get him angry and it takes a special kind of EFFORT to get him so angry that his eyes turn into this. He isn't just gonna kill you, he's gonna make you suffer through it and make sure you die slow.

Having said that, his eyes also change to this when he's trying to intimidate someone or something. They'll also change to this state when he summons his weapon or when using any arcane abilities. That doesn't mean he's pissed off, it just happens. For non-divine it happens because magic can and will take its toll on the body and sometimes some magic can force certain physical traits to "surface" without the person being able to control it.

However, Jelani is divine so he should have complete control over it. Truth is it's a sub-conscious action. Remember, he's had that identity crisis his entire life and since berserkers's eyes faintly glow when they conjure up their weapons and/or armor he took that observation and sub-consciously makes his eyes change to that. So when he summons his weapon or uses any arcane abilities his eyes will change to that.

They also turn that way when he's injured or in some type of survival mode. Obviously he can't just go around with his eyes like this everywhere but he for the most part he can't exactly control it until he's conscious of it and even then he's got bigger shit to worry about.

*The iris is supposed to glow faintly but I got lazy so just pretend.

((This is actually my favorite look to him because it legitimately scares the fuck out of me/creeps me the fuck out. Dude, if I managed to piss off some 6'6", 237 pound eldritch deity and he's staring at me with THOSE eyes I'd piss out all of my organs. I don't like looking at 'em too long 'cause I have a far too vivid imagination and they creep me out severely but I can't help but love 'em at the same time.))

This is incredibly rare to witness. In fact, his eyes have only ever changed to this, while in human form, only three times in his entire life.

This happens when he's reached a point of no return or more like he doesn't fucking care anymore and to say that's the equivalent of DEFCON 1 is the understatement of the millennium.

*There is a caveat though. His eyes changing to this while he's in HUMAN form is cataclysmic and all around not a good thing. However, this is how his eyes normally look while in divine form so it doesn't mean anything is wrong while in divine form. Human form though...eh, that's fucking bad.

Post Halo virus:

When he got infected with the Halo virus he went through all the symptoms but the one that left a permanent mark was the ocular trauma that affected his right pupil.

Basically his right pupil internally burst. It's only noticeable while his eyes are in that state while in human form or while in divine form. I gotta do some more research into how that would affect his vision in that eye while in divine form. The Halo virus targeted deities so obviously while in human form it wouldn't show unless his eyes change to these two examples.

Okay. I was gonna ask tomorrow 'cause I'm super sleepy but I couldn't wait. Been having this in my head for the last 2 days. What would Lo and Uth's wedding be like. Also would Uth do the wedding ring thing and what do they look like. Lol I spent so damn long looking for a design for Jela and Angelus' rings. But would Uth use rings or something else?

So I always imagine a big wedding, not in the traditional sense though. So like I see this natural woodland scene under the full moon and stars. People eating, drinking, and just filling the night air with joy. Those closest to them near by.

Uth would be wearing this elegant flowing piece adorned with furs and some nice Shiney bronze bits.

Lo would be absolutely gorgeous as always, my thoughts go to something more leather for him. Almost something regal in nature, like a Rangers gear but made with intricate designs from leathers you could only dream of!

They both dance the night away before Jela presents them with wedding bands at the height of the full moon. However not rings, but arm bands. In his mind rings are nice and all but can get in the way. The arm bands allow for fashion and for practical use :p

They would be designed in a fashion that fits and connects them. Stars wrapping around the arm connected by a wolf and stag! Emeralds placed in the eyes of the wolf, sapphires in the eyes the stag.

They could add to the band as time went on or modify it to fill a roll within their needs.

I just see every bit of the wedding as this big blow out celebration. A way to show the universe their love and to give themselves and those around them a truly pure happy memory!

The honeymoon would definitely be alot quieter, something deep in a mountain range with hot springs and not a care in the world. Long mornings sleeping in and longer nights with not so much sleeping.

Suatu hari aku pernah lupa diri, dari pagi kesana kesini, tiba tiba matahari sudah nyaris tenggelam. aku termenung, oiya belum makan. niatnya ingin kurapel saja hingga malam. namun, ucapan umi terngiang di kepala,

'Nis, hak tubuhnya.' Oh cmon, kenapa muncul sekarang hei ingatan. Ditambah idealisme kepalaku bacot terdengar, 'cih, katanya mau nyiapin jasad terbaik untuk Allah titipin Sang Pembebas. cih cih cih cih'

Argh. Iya iya iya iya iya. Maka motorku mulai bergeser dari tujuan utama. mulai memperhitung kemungkinan.

Sayang sekali, waktu tersisa 15 menit dari waktu kegiatan selanjutnya. Aku mulai bingung, dimana harus kucari tempat makan yang bisa ready secepat itu dengan gizi yang masuk akal tanpa harus banyak diproses ini itu?

Bayangkan, dalam 5 menit aku bisa selesai makan!

Tanpa harus menunggu dimasakkan. dengan sigap diberi sendok-garpu tanpa perlu menghabiskan waktu meminta salah satunya. dengan opsi makanan yang oemji banyaknyoooo dan less-process. dengan sigapnya tangan si mba nyendokin ini itu. tanpa harus berbincang pada siapa-siapa. dengan harga yang tipis sekali. dengan air putih hangat yang cepat hadirnya. dengan mba-mba yang cepat menoleh kalo dipanggil. uang kembalian yang tak lama dikembalikan. Allah...

Setelahnya, aku bisa lanjut kegiatan, bersama sisa 5 menit untuk aku mengambil nafas.

lalu tuntas kewajiban 'mengisi tenaga untuk beribadah' itu. ajib banget. waktu aman, uang aman, gizi aman. kacau, terlalu sempurna. jiwa ekonomiku meraung-raung.

Sejak hari itu, menepi sendiri di warteg dan makan di tempat menjadi warna baru penuntas stress-ku. satu kali dua kali kuajak kakakku, adanya mereka jelas menjadi variabel menarik, meski akhirnya aku harus meluangkan waktu menunggu mereka selesai makan. meski juga harus menghadapi wajah mereka yang so done dengan cuap-cuapku terkagum pada efektivitas warteg.

Alhamdulillah, senang deh. menemukan Allah memperjalankan hasrat ku pada hal-hal fungsional begini, sungguhan senang sekali. Makasih ya Allah, makanan-makanan ini, tidak perlu menjadi ujianku.

Rejeki

Lagi masuk ke pattern avoiding writing lagi, baca catetan konseling ternyata sangat membantu yah. Minimal menyadari lagi kenapa kok sangat mudah sekali bagi diriku kembali ke pola ini, dan semoga dari kesadaran ini bisa segera keluar dari vicious cycle avoiding writing. Belakangan ini bawaannya juga anxious terus karena selalu kepikiran “oh gw tu ada utang nulis. Gw tu gabisa menikmati momen ini. Gw tu harusnya nulis”. Menderita banget. Sampe kebawa mimpi bahkan. Di mimpi, ku lagi ke tempatnya Diny, terus Diny ada print-print-an thesis dia gitu 500 halaman terus kubaca terus ku panik karena ku baru nulis 1 chapter.

Yang bikin makin ter-pressure lagi sebetulnya adalah karena ada teman se-cohort-ku dan se-supervisor (intinya se-lab) yang mulai PhD-nya Oktober 2020 juga akan submit 2 Juli BESOK. Temannya flatmate-ku juga mulainya barengan sama diriku dan supposedly harusnya submit minggu KEMARIN. Udah ada juga teman se-cohort di departemen yang UDAH JADI DOKTOR alias UDAH VIVA. Tau sih perjalanan PhD tiap orang beda-beda, terutama karena yang kami kerjakan beda-beda banget kan: dari metode, scope, research question. Tapi tetap aja GAKBISA gak ngerasa panik dan sedih dan iri(? Dikit?) ngelihat orang-orang ini.

HHHHHH. Ayo Non. Tenang. Gaada yang perlu dikhawatirin. Gak lagi balapan sama siapa-siapa.

Belakangan ini juga doa ke Allah yang pengennya diberikan ketenangan hati, berlapang dada, dan yakin pasti memang sudah ada jalannya masing-masing. Minta diberikan kekuatan juga supaya DISIPLIN dan tidak malas menulis.

Anyway.

Oleh sebab itu, karena belakangan ini ku selalu merasa kurang, tidak menjadi “idealised version of Asri” menurut si Asri itu sendiri, ku harus banyak-banyak reflect back dan BERSYUKUR. Betul-betul kembali lagi ke tujuan awal dibuat akun tumblr ini: untuk showing gratitudes, counting and listing blessings (YANG AMAT SUPER DUPER BANYAK dan sangat ku-taken for granted):

PUNYA FLATMATE YANG BAIK HATI. Aku selama di Oxford hampir 4 tahun ini selalu sharing 2 Bed Room flat dengan 1 orang lain, gapernah tinggal di studio sendiri. Nah, baru sadar, ternyata punya flatmate yang compatible tuh ternyata merupakan rejeki yang amat besar. Kemarin habis dengar drama orang indo sharing rumah di London ber-4? Ber-5? Terus adaaaa aja drama-nya. Dari masalah ngantri laundry-lah, kamar mandi gak bersih-lah, dsb. Terus ada juga yang sharing rumah ber-3 sesama orang indo juga dan ya gak akur aja gitu, jarang ketemu, jarang ngobrol, ada satu orang yang gak jelas keluar kamar kapan, ke kampus kapan, ke KAMAR MANDI KAPAN. Intinya kaya ilang aja gitu (ini gak masalah sih, personally ku lebih prefer orang yang invisible vs yang rempong dan fussy). Terus ada juga apparently orang yang OCD gitu kan, jadi toleransi terkait sharing space dengan orang lainnya cukup rendah. Ada yang share flat dengan orang dengan gangguan mental health juga jadi sering teriak-teriak, aneh-aneh deh pokoknya. OH, ada yang tukang curi butter juga, curi Tupperware, dsb.

Nah Alhamdulillah banget selama 3 tahun sejak 2020-2023 di Headington, ku sharing flat sama orang South Africa dan dia BAIKKKK BANGET YaAllah. Kayak, aku sendiri personally typical orangnya yang cuek aja gitu dan gak nosy: urusan lo, urusan lo, urusan gw, urusan gw, pokoknya selama lo gak gangguin gw ya gw gaakan gangguin lo. Ku sama si teman ini tuh yang yaudah akur-akur aja selama 3 tahun hidup bareng, gaada masalah hidup yang berarti…

Terus setahun terakhir tinggal sama orang Indo yang Alhamdulillahnya juga gak aneh-aneh, mana rajin memasak… (emoji nangis). Tadi pagi aja dia masak jeon dan barusan pas pulang dari London tiba-tiba di rumah ada sate dan sambel kacang dan TAHU ISI ENAK BANGET… Kami juga tipe yang yaudah respectful sama personal space aja. Kalau lagi gapengen bersosialisasi ya yaudah di kamar masing-masing, kalau lagi mau nonton tv bareng ya hayuk. Ada teman mau nginep juga silahkan, mau masak-masak/makan-makan sama teman di rumah juga OK aja. Pokoknya tinggal sama orang yang CHILL tu enak banget ya beneran baru kusadari nikmatnya sekarang…

2. BERADA DI LINGKUNGAN YANG BAIK. Jadi barusan ku habis pulang dari London ada pengajian di KBRI yang ngisi ceramah Prof. Quraish Shihab. Beliau somehow lagi di UK sama anak dan istrinya entah untuk acara apa. Terus ya, kalau ku gak diajak nih sama Ibu Yani, ku GAAKAN niat pergi sendiri naik kereta ke London untuk dateng pengajian ini. Tapi karena ditebengin, ku jadi datang. Ku jadi sadar juga betapa pentingnya lingkungan pergaulan kita. Kalau teman-teman kita mengajak ke arah kebaikan, ya kita-nya juga otomatis akan kebawa jadi baik... Begitu pula sebaliknya...

OH! Berhubungan dengan yang no 1 di atas juga, ku amat sangat bersyukur flatmate-ku yang sekarang juga solehah, jadi kalau dia kebangun subuh, ku juga ikutan kebangun…. Sahur pas Ramadan kemarin pun juga gitu… Intinya didekatkan oleh Allah dengan orang-orang ini aja tuh juga lagi-lagi rejeki yang sebetulnya besar banget tapi kadang kita nggak sadar…

3. SUPPORT SYSTEM OK BANGET. Kemarin ceritanya pulang kerja Jumat makan hotpot di Cowley sama Diny. Terus di situ, ku bahas lah, betapa BAIKNYA postdoc yang aku kerja bareng sama dia. Kadang pas lagi ngobrol sama flatmate juga disebut sih: “ih kamu tuh enak non ada yang ngemonitor progress, ada tempat ngasih setoran, aku gaada, betul-betul ditinggal gitu aja sama supervisor aku…”. Pas dipikir-pikir lagi ya si postdoc ini yang selalu ngepush aku buat register conference, latihan presentasi, ngasih artificial deadline buat draft manuscript dikasih feedback… Kayanya kalau gaada postdoc ini, progress PhD-ku betul-betul gaakan sejauh sekarang deh… (walaupun ini pun udah lumayan behind,,, tapi gapapa Non: HAVE SELF-COMPASSION!”)

Paling aneh juga pas lagi ngobrol kemarin, si Diny mayan kaget pas kubilang “iya gw pernah depressed terus yang ngasih kata-kata bagus tuh si AdiHarlin..”. Diny yang: “hah lu bisa depressed juga rupanya?? Gua kira lu senang-senang aja terus”. Emang susah kalau punya personality ceria, orang-orang kayanya ngiranya hidup w selalu bahagia...

Udah sih… sementara ini yang kepikiran baru itu aja. Sebetulnya kapan hari gitu pernah pas lagi otw jalan pulang ke rumah kepikiran buat nulis. Lebih buat ngasih wording ke anxiety yang lagi dialami sih. Kayanya kalau jelas bentuknya apa dalam kata-kata, kekhawatiran yang ada di otak ini bakal lebih ringan dirasakannya. Nggak akan hilang seketika sih, tapi minimal tahu apa yang terjadi dan kira-kira mitigasinya apa.
