Why are the remaining Solarians particularly unhappy with Yi, as opposed to "The Sols" in general? I know he's not a people person and went on a rampage but it was exactly that that saved them from a mutant fate. There is proof of that splattered all around the Empyrean district. He is the only reason they got to have a conscious thought again, and will ever be able to find rest, and I think that would be pretty apparent? And hey if they agree with Eigong they can still drink the pink water.

Yi is the one who spearheaded the Eternal Cauldron project. Secondhand to Eigong, who was the head of the endeavor. He also just… had the misfortune of being The One To Wake Them Up, which- I know, don’t shoot the messenger yadda yadda, but it’s hard not to when they had such a big hand in what happened.

Don’t get me wrong, they aren’t particularly happy with Goumang or Kuafu, either, but because they are a little more diplomatic and also have a more approachable demeanor, they’re a little more willing to work with them. They eventually are able to work with and accept Yi, too, it’s just that… Yi will never have the benefit of being generally approachable.

The feelings toward the Sols altogether is… complicated. Yes, they were “saved,” but no, they don’t have to be HAPPY about the situation at hand. And to expect them to be would feel. naive. To me, at least. If you’ve read the prequel comic with Chien, you’d know that not everyone who boarded were particularly well off. People gave up everything, desperate for a spot on New Kunlun. And like Yi, like Chiens mother, (as upsetting as her decision was), like Kuafu, and basically everyone, people left loved ones behind for it, too. They trusted the Sols with their hopes, their lives, their futures, to get them through the Tianhuo disaster, and the Sols failed them. Only to be woken up 500 years in the future, just to be told it was all for nothing, the project failed, and they gave up on finding a cure.

And as a cherry on top, they can’t even go back home to mourn. How else are you supposed to feel about the end of everything?
