This ask has been sitting in my inbox for a couple of months now because I wasn't sure how to answer. I've been a defender of the 50/50 jury system and still am. Many eurofans change their stance on juries based on if they help their favourites to succeed on a certain year or don't, and I try to avoid being hypocritical like that.

As to Käärijä, what happened was to be expected from the beginning even if the predictability doesn't make it any less painful. His vocals were and are weak because he is a rapper, not a trained singer, and juries are expected to pay attention to that. It was also not a surprise that all juries won't go for funny, goofy and colourful performances when they are looking for something that ticks all the boxes of the best entry of the year.

I still do think that juries fill their role as the quality control of Esc. In my opinion 2006-2008 was the absolute worst era of the contest with all the cheap gimmicks, weak vocals and joke entries with the only purpose to gather televotes. What does bother me though is the certain bias juries tend to have against and for certain countries: favouring Sweden and Malta while treading Poland, Finland and Norway. I do not have any solution for that, but I really hope we won't return to the televote only era.

Because Sweden is hosting next year, there are most likely some changes coming to the contest again and I'm very much not looking forward to Esc getting more and more Swedified and Mellofied. If they make any changes in the voting sequence remains to be seen, but I really doubt SVT would suggest getting rid of juries considering Sweden's last two victories were thanks to jury vote.
