I have decided to attempt to resuscitate my friend's old mirosoft surface book which hasn't been charging.

Here is the saga thus far!

Issue #1: Refuses to charge.

it took forever to find out what exactly the computer was because i was told since day one that it was a microsoft surface pro. It's a book. Surface books are apparently very rare and uncommon as when you look for them all you get are pros and various surface laptops, neither of which i had.

Anyways once I figured it out, I found a youtube video telling me how to manually detach the screen from the keyboard. I popped it out, cleaned the charger a little, and charged the tablet. And it worked!

Issue #2: the keyboard doesn't work.

So my friend had spilled soda on it. This is fine, she's a messy person. Except I watched a video where a guy replaced his keyboard and gettin the damn thing to open was an ordeal because it's lued shut. My trusty 2018 Macbook pro which I'm currently writing on? It's secured via screwed. This extremely expensive 2n1 laptop? Secured via glue. That does not bode well for its longevity. I may not know much about computers but you want to be able to easily access the hardware! There's a lot of shit in there!

But. My friend is messy. And the keyboard works? Intermittently? So I took a clorox wipe, the only thing i have on hand, and wiped down the parts that connect the screen to the keyboard.

It works.

Issue #3: The keyboard battery won't charge.

Here's a quirk about the surface book: It can charge by both the tablet and the keyboard. The tablet battery? Working perfectly. THe keyboard battery? Not so much. The computer isn't even picking it up.

A quick google tells me that this has been an issue since at least 2019. The keyboard part just dies. So. That's fun.

I need actual isopropyl alcohol to see if i can clean out the port and see if that helps. Beyond that idk.
