I post a lot of baiphemeral but I never quite elaborate on them.

The basis of them was literally when my friend pulled bai ze randomly and I wanted to see so we stood them text to each other in my lobby and we both kept being like "yeah they look sooo pretty together!"/"they'd be such good friends 🫶🏽"

One bound by duty and the other doomed by the narrative. Bai Ze bears the weight of the only lady of the Bai family to be appointed as the guardian of the scroll. In the same vain how her parents gave their lives for justice, she carries on their legacy to do the same. Ephemeral is a celestial of rain and fortune residing on the mountain. Of course the light she uses to guide people through the forest in coveted. In my reading of the event (which takes various creative liberties LMAO) she's the mountain God they speak of that was sealed away into the mountain, presumably by the Lotus Clan Master Yin Yang belong to as a result of the dynasties Emperor's influence who was obsessed with finding immortality. Once her light guided people through the forest, now all that's left is the heavy fog left by her misery and her blood left deep in the soil of the mountain.

Bai Ze and Ephemeral had an unspoken love for each other. There was a silent understanding between them even before the Battle of Changchuan that there was little space in their lives to be leave room for the ties between them — Bai Ze's duty unrelenting, Ephemeral who in herself would become only a fleeting moment in time.

But there was love, and they let it settle, they let it make its home within each other, even if the path it came from was lined in bloodshed.
