\ let me love the lonely /
PAIRING: Michael/Y/N
RATING: PG
WORD COUNT: 2.4k
A/N: this imagine is based on the song ‘let me love the lonely’ by james arthur so give it a listen :) although this little imagine is a bit happier than the song but yeah feel free to give me some feedback if you’d like to, i’m really excited to get into the 5sos writing world
When Luke and Ashton dragged Michael out of his apartment to come to some party with them, he was expecting to seriously hate his night. What he wasn’t expecting was to see a beautiful girl across the room the moment he stepped into the crowded house. Throughout the night he kept an eye on her, catching a few things about her that he’s almost positive no one else notices.
Luke makes some shit joke, you laugh because everyone else is - although you’ve heard the joke before at the last party you ran into Luke and Ashton at. But unlike that last party, their friend and fellow band mate Michael hadn’t tagged along. You noticed him the moment he stepped into the house. Seeming as though he was enjoying this party just as much as you were. You catch Michael’s eye as he too laughs at Luke’s shitty joke, his lips pressing into a tight smile as he realizes you’re looking at him.
An entire hour goes by and neither Luke or Ashton get the hint that Michael wants one of them to introduce him to the beautiful girl he feels he can already connect with, only after a few stolen glances. Now he notices you sitting by yourself on the couch that’s pushed into the corner so people can stand around the living room. Michael takes a deep breath, another big sip of his beer for liquid courage and then walks up to you.
“Hey, is someone sitting here?” He asks. You look up at him and find yourself staring, he was just really cute up close.
“No,” you answer after a few terrifying seconds that make Michael want to run and hide. But once you do say no, Michael smiles and takes the open seat beside you.
“I noticed you’ve been holding that same drink for a while,” Michael says but instantly regrets from how creepy he must sound to you.
You lift up the bottle half full of some shitty kiwi flavoured cooler, “yeah, it kinda sucks,” you tell him.
“Oh, did you want something else? I’m sure there’s another option somewhere for you,” Michael says, looking around the house but only finding the crowd doubled in size since he last looked around.
“No, it’s fine, I don’t really drink anyways,” you admit.
“Me neither,” Michael sighs, picking at the label on the beer bottle he’s hanging into.
“Why come to the party then?” You ask. It’s stupid to question him, seeing as you had just said you don’t drink either. But as you glance at the cute unnamed boy sitting beside you with his face all screwed up and him pushing his glasses up his nose you end up smiling.
“My friends dragged me here,” he states. “What about you?”
“Same, this place is my friends. She never let me miss a party if she’s hosting it,” you explain.
“Quite hostile of her,” Michael says, earning a chuckle from you. “I’m Mike by the way,”
“Mike?” You repeat, making sure you heard him right as the song had gotten more upbeat and louder almost.
“I meant Michael, no one really calls me Mike except my dad when he’s trying to sound cool,” he rambles out, talking with his hands. It’s cute, you think while giving him a smile.
“Michael,” you try his name again. This causes him to blush, his pale cheeks turning a faint shade of red as he hears his name fall off your tongue. “It’s nice to meet you, I’m Y/N,” you say.
“I’m sorry if I like came over here and bugged you, I just noticed you were alone and thought you might be lonely or something,” Michael catches himself rambling to you again. But again, it earns a soft chuckle from you followed by a sweet smile he’d probably dream about tonight.
“It’s fine, you’re right,” you shrug, “parties can get kinda lonely,”
“I totally feel that too,”
“Yeah?” You question, brows pulled together. “Usually I say that to people and they think I’m crazy,”
“Well I don’t,” Michael says, “I kinda feel like that one string of a guitar that’s out of tune when I come to these things,”
You somehow manage to furrow your brows together even more, utterly confused by his choice of words. But it makes you laugh again. This guy was both cute and endearing. You nod your head, causing a piece of your hair to fall into your face so you’re quick to push it back behind your ear before meeting Michael’s gaze again.
“Funny way to put it, but I get it,” you say. Michael smiles, that adorable blush still on his cheeks. You can tell the conversation is sorta near it’s end, and you don’t want it to be like at all. “So you play guitar?” You ask, aware his answer is mostly going to be yes. But it sparks up an entire conversation with the cute boy that’s making you feel a little less lonely.
Just as the conversation was getting good, someone is shouting your name from across the room. You glance away from Michael and see your best friend waving you over.
“I gotta go see what she needs,” you tell Michael.
“It’s fine, I should probably check on dumb and dumber to make sure they’re not making a fool of themselves,”
“Luke and Ash are always making a fool of themselves,” you chuckle.
“Fair point,” Michael says, chuckling along with you. And with one last smile, you’re walking off to where your friend is shouting at you again. Almost instantly Michael’s mind is full of regrets. He should’ve got your number, or gone with you or anything. Maybe he’d get to you again during this stupid party.
You’re grinning at a couple, but Michael finds it like you’re a lighthouse without a light. Something he knows because he feels the same way too. Before you can catch his staring, Michael turns away and walks off into the dining room where he knows both of his idiot friends are playing a game of beer pong. Losing, which is no shock.
It’s stupid to think, but Michael is stupid so... he stares at you across the room again a while later. You’re still smiling without your eyes. It’s clear as day that you’re not enjoying your night, well it’s clear to him but not anyone else it seems. But Michael thinks to himself, maybe he could save himself from this party if he saves you. If he had to stand in this dining room and watch his drunk friends any longer he might lose his mind. For a second he thinks of how much better his night would be with some shit anime show. But then he finds you across the room again, time to make this night better.
“Hey,” Michael says as he approaches you again.
“Hi again,” you smile.
“I was, uh, I was wondering if you wanted to get out of here,” he says - really shooting his chance here. “I just noticed that you don’t really want to be here and I don’t really want to be here and I saw this pizza place down the street and-”
“Michael,” you cut off his rambling, grinning at the blush that creeps to his cheeks again. “I’d love to get out of here and get some pizza with you,” you say.
Michael really can’t believe it. You’re walking beside him down the staircase to the street, your white converse avoiding the puddle while he’s too busy watching you to notice the puddle - his boots now wet as the two of you walk down the sidewalk together. If someone were to tell him he’d met a girl at this stupid party and end up getting some greasy cheese pizza while sitting inside a less than busy pizza and donair shop, well Michael wouldn’t believe them. And yet here he was, scrambling to get his wallet out before you can pay for the pizza.
“It was my idea,” he insists as you narrow your eyes at him in a joking matter. You smile and lean your hip into the counter, crossing your arms at your chest. There’s no missing Michael’s eyes darting down to your pushed up cleavage as you do so. But it’s fine, cause he blushes after and looks to the floor.
“Okay, but I’ll buy us a milkshake to share,” you state while turning back to look at the menu that hangs above the counter. “Do you like chocolate or vanilla?”
“Either,” Michael squeaks out, clearing his throat before adding, “whichever you want,”
You smile, your cheeks were beginning to hurt from all the smiling this guy was getting you to do. “Chocolate milkshake please, just a regular size,” you tell the worker before paying.
The two of you sit at the booth by the window, indulging into the delicious pizza before getting into some ‘get to know ya’ kind of conversation. You learn each others full names, your favourite colour (which sparks up a fight of wether or not black was a colour or a shade), and your both watching on Netflix at the moment.
“I’m a photographer, mostly for local based clients that pay me to amp up their Instagram feeds, LA people you know,” you joke while telling Michael about your job. Which you did love a lot.
“So your good then?”
“Um, yeah, I guess,” you shrug. Then you get a brilliant idea, opening your camera on your phone. “Pose,” you say, chuckling as Michael’s arms move like a horribly functioning robot - clearly not sure what to do. But then he just smiles, and the way the neon sign beside you two shines on his face does your photo more justice that you could hope for. You take a minute to edit the photo quickly before turning your phone to Michael and showing him.
“That’s amazing,” he says, picking up your phone, “never would guess you took this on an iPhone,” he adds.
“Thanks,” you smile.
“Can I post it? Amp up my Instagram,” he says, smiling.
“Yeah, of course,” you nod and take your phone back from him. “What’s your number?”
“And here I thought I’d be the one asking for your number tonight,” Michael says. You chuckle at him and shake your head.
“Well, for the record, I would’ve gave it to you,”
Michael smile grows wider as he lists out his phone number to you. You send him the photo and then as he’s posting the Instagram he asks for your tag. Without another thought you give him your username and smile as the notification comes through.
“You know,” you pause to take a sip of the milkshake (you’ve been drinking most of it), “I thought tonight was going to be another shitty party,” you state.
“So did I,” Michael nods.
“Thanks for getting me out of there,”
“You’re welcome,”
The night continues on with even more smiles and laughter between you two. Michael has to be one of the sweetest guys you’ve ever met. And if someone was to tell you that you’d find a cute nice guy at one of your bets friend’s shitty parties, you sure as hell wouldn’t believe them. And yet here you were, hoping and praying this night would never end honestly. But it does, the worker coming up to you two after some time to let you know they’re closing.
“I should probably head back to the party anyways, I’m staying the night there,” you explain while walking out of the shop with Michael holding open the door for you.
“Yeah, I have to head back with Luke and Ashton soon too,” he states while glancing at his phone. Both the guys had texted him recently, asking where he had gone.
“I really had a great time tonight, Michael,” you say. Michael notices your smile is much different from the beginning of the night. It’s more real, more genuine and just as heart warming as the last to be honest. Suppose he just really liked you.
“Mikey!!!!”
You both look away from one another to see Luke running towards Michael, arms wide open to engulf his friend in a hug. Ashton’s close behind, laughing at the sight. You can’t help but chuckle as well. The two of them are talking to Michael a million miles an hour, it’s almost intimidating to stand by and watch the boys. It’s nearly two in the morning, yet they’re shouting as if it’s two in the afternoon. You reach back and scratch the back of your neck.
“Our Uber’s here!” Ashton shouts, running towards the white car that’s pulling to the curb.
Luke follows behind him, smacking Michael hard on the back as he glances your way. You give him another smile, it doesn’t meet your eyes this time though. Maybe you’re as sad as he’s feeling that the night’s come to an end... Michael kicks his boots against the pavement, looking down for a quick second before glancing back up and meeting your gaze.
“Can I take you to dinner tomorrow?” he asks, the overwhelming feeling of courage hitting him in the chest again.
“I can’t,” you say. Michael’s face drops at your words. “I have plans, but I’m free the next day?”
Michael mirrors your smile, “I’ll text you,” he says before turning on his heels and jogging to the Uber where his drunk friends are awaiting him.
“That chick was hot,” Luke says as Michael gets into the back seat.
“Yeah, good pick,” Ashton agrees from the front seat.
Michael simply rolls his eyes at his friends. You weren’t just a ‘good pick’, he felt like he already knew you before he got to know you at the pizza shop. And unlike usual, he didn’t hide away and stare from afar, he actually took a chance and it paid off. Michael looks out the window, catching the sight of the neon signs of the pizza shop you two had just sat in for almost two hours. He’d probably text you tomorrow morning, knowing he couldn’t wait that long without hearing from you again.

that book list I promised
//rubs my grubby hands together happily
Boy howdy do I ever have some book recommendations. This would’ve been posted earlier but mobile decided to go fuck itself. Just a heads up, this is gonna be long
I mostly read series because tbh teen fiction is some of the best. It tends to take the most risks with both style and characterization. (Granted, it also tends to fall risk to some of the worst tropes imo like abuse stalker creepy guy is hot cause he loves protag)
Anything Garth Nix has ever written in his whole life. He’s one of my favorite authors and tends to stick to series. Keys to the Kingdom is 7 books and the first is Mister Monday and you read in order of the days of the week. No really. You’ll see why. His Old Kingdom series is 5 books and a short story so far and starts with Sabriel. It’s about necromancers who keep the dead down rather than raise them. Like I have the biggest boner for this series it’s not even funny
Terry Pratchett is my absolute favorite author of all time (besides Shakespeare) and he’s written over 50 books. You don’t have to read them in any particular order but he does follow characters across books sometimes. I recommend starting with Monstrous Regiment, Small Gods, or Going Postal first. If you want to start in chronological order, I think The Colour of Magic was written first
If you’re patient, read the whole Lord of the Rings series from The Hobbit onward. Tolkien sucks his own dick and describes clouds for a whole page cause he’s a world builder kind of writer. I haven’t had a chance to try the series again but I remember enjoying The Hobbit. Just know this is a very tedious option and may result in more boredom
Less boring is The Chronicles of Narnia but there are a few books that are just an absolute bear to get through. I recommend this right after lotr because these stories are a result OF THE SAME DRUG TRIP because Clive Staples Lewis (no really that’s what CS stands for) and Tolkien were college roommates. And because Narnia is a fucking fun place to visit
George RR Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire cause it includes more detail than Game of Thrones and because I’m always a slut for kingdom musical chairs and dragons
Speaking of dragons, The Inheritance Series which is Eragon etc because it’s like lotr for people who can’t stand reading about a cloud for two pages, almost entirely action. Plus, in one of the books, they (Eragon and Saphira) do a couple of really stupid, slightly offensive things to the elves and admit their mistakes which I thought was cool cause it feels like sometimes protagonists don’t apologize in books
Chris D'Lacey also writes these REALLY COOL books about dragons called The Last Dragon Chronicles where these ladies make dragons out of clay and I’m 90% sure The Fire Within is the first book. There are at least 7 and I really need to catch up
Angie Sage writes about a boy named Septimus Heap who’s the 7th son of a 7th son and those books start with Magyk and there are at least 6 maybe 9. They’re fucking awesome and full of magic and adventure and I’m pretty sure he gets a pet dragon somewhere
Suzanne Collins also writes a lot of great stuff but I REALLY like her Gregor the Overlander series. Think Alice in Wonderland with a guy and no drugs and it’s awesome
Anything Rick Riordan has ever written in his life. I love love love the Percy Jackson series and he also wrote Children of the Lamp which is the bomb dot com about djinn children
Douglas Adams has a whole Hitchhiker’s Guide series and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is the first and it’s just bonkers and loads of fun. Basically earth gets blown up and the protagonist has to deal with it. An absolute riot
James Rollins writes the Blood Infernal series about vampires and were-beings not just werewolves. The first book is Sanguine and the protagonist’s best friend is a werewolf. The first two books don’t have much to do with each other aside from being in the same universe but book three picks up at the end of book one and ties them both together. I’m pretty sure there’s sex
I’d also recommend anything Edgar Allen Poe or Shakespeare ever wrote. I know that’s more Classical Canon or whatever the fuck but honestly? Delightful. Same sentiment for Stephen King
I can’t remember the names of all the series I’ve read but these I definitely do. So onto individual books!
I, Coriander by Sally Gardener set in 17th century London and has to do with a fairy world if I remember correctly
Fairest by Gail Carson Levine about a really ugly inn keeper’s daughter and it’s kind of a retelling of Snow White (She wrote other stand alones but I haven’t read them. Based off this, though, I’d recommend them)
Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie about a girl who immigrates from Nigeria(?) to the US and it’s just really really good
Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe set in Nigeria(?) right when colonialism happens. The first part is pre-colonialism and then it gets into the beginnings of it and all this happens within the lifespan of one man. Trigger warning though for mentions of abuse, explicit child murder and explicit suicide. Like it’s a good book but it’s gonna be a rough ride if you don’t know what you’re in for
One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez is good, if tedious. It’s a Latin American book so the story is circular and told in spirals. I literally have no other way to describe it. Also don’t ignore the family chart at the very beginning because people get the same names across generations and it’s absolutely hellish. Trigger warning for incest, I think rape, definitely abuse, and a baby gets eaten by ants at the end which is more gross than anything
Black Rain by Kuroi Ame is about the bombing of Hiroshima. I’m pretty sure that’s all the trigger warning you’re going to need
The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven by Sherman Alexie is a collection of short stories about various Native American characters living on a reservation
Black Elk Speaks by John G. Neihardt is about a Blackfoot medicine man who finally talks about his life but it’s less interview and more John interpreting things so this needs to be read a little critically
Lame Deer, Seeker of Visions by Richard Erdoes is a book where a Sioux medicine man talks directly to Erdoes from a Native perspective about various things from sex to politics. Was a joy to read honestly. Very enlightening
Hagakure by Yamamoto Tsunetomo basically entails the way of the bushido or the samurai code more or less. Kind of technical but I enjoyed it
Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause is about the werewolf protagonist trying to fit into her pack and figure out how to be a teenager. There’s at least one graphic mention of death (I think). It could also be suicide) so heads up
The Silver Kiss by Annette Curtis Klause is a vampire romance set in the 90′s and has absolutely nothing to do with the other book and was definitely something I loved. The protagonist watches her mother waste away from illness so avoid if that’s not something you can handle. Apparently, there are more stories (which I’d LOVE to read) and I’d recommend them just based off the two I have read
The Spook’s Apprentice by Joseph Delaney was amazing and I’ve just found out it’s a series not just a stand-alone so I know what’s going on my to-read list. It’s about an apprentice to The Spook who puts down evil things that hide in the dark. Kind of spine-tingling so if you don’t do horror, don’t read when it’s dark. It’s not horror-horror but if it’s not your thing, definitely read during the day
A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner is the only thing Faulkner ever wrote I can possibly stand. It’s a short story and the time is out of order but I still liked it
The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman is also a short story and my absolute favorite
Also not a book, but I greatly enjoy the Puritan poet Anne Bradstreet but not everybody does because 1 early American literature and 2 Puritan but that’s something if poetry is up your alley
Black Beauty by Anna Sewell is about the life of a horse set from the horse’s perspective. No seriously. With I statements and everything. I thought it was very interesting. (I was also like 8)
White Fang by Jack London is by wolves. I don’t remember much more than that because of how long ago I read it but it was probably decent since it stuck in my mind
The Whipping Boy by Sid Fleischman is about a prince’s whipping boy which is a thing because you can’t spank a prince directly so you have to punish somebody else. V interesting
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl was very enjoyable. I like Roald Dahl anyway but the concept of a chocolate factory was awesome. I also read it before I saw either movie and before the remake
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley is pretty good but skip the epistolary at the beginning and read it after if you want to spare yourself some headache
Dracula by Bram Stoker is a classic and just really fun and I can definitely see why it’s a classic
The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman was really interesting and honestly, I’d read anything that man writes after I read that
The Help by Kathryn Stockett is even better than the movie but there’s abuse mentions in it like even more so than the movie. If you haven’t seen the movie, heads up for graphic depictions of miscarriage, racial violence, and I don’t remember if the one death mentioned is graphic or not but it’s a heavy book
I’d have more but I can’t remember their damned names right now and it’s bugging me. I also have obscure video game recs because I’m one of those indie freaks. They tend to really draw me in
Also, if you like manga, I’ve read like idk how many series but a shitload and the day onemanga shut down was the day my soul died
Anyway, I hope this is fine. It isn’t even the half of what I’ve read. Like I spent almost all of my childhood reading and I enjoyed most of it. I just wish I could remember book names. Their stories are floating around in my head, just not their names. If I remember any more, I’ll probably add to this list
#original post#words#i just recommended at least 500 books probably#maybe more even??? idk#kizamimai#god im so sorry i just love books so much#IF YALL HAVE READ ANY OF THESE HIT MY ASS UP#I AM ALWAYS FUCKIN DOWN TO TALK SOME LITERATURE#its why im an english major tbh

Piri’s Ultimate List Of Horror Recs (2017 Version)
my go-to compilation of ever single horror/horror-related media i’ve ever enjoyed, including slashers, paranormal, thrillers, creature features, and much, much more 🎃
note: this list has trigger warnings but i am operating under the assumption that you are okay with the standard level of explicit sexuality, vulgarity, violence, and gore present in mainstream horror
horror
original nightmare on elm street series, but especially 1, 3, 4, 6, and freddy vs. jason (tw for implied pedophilia and explicit child murder, tw for rape in #6)
friday the 13th (original and remake)
honestly all the friday the 13th sequels are A Treasure but if you want The Core Canon watch 1-3
my bloody valentine (original)
psycho (original) and tbh all its sequels (tw for sort-of-kind-of incest vibes)
psycho ii and psycho iv are my favorites because (1) meg tilly is adorable in psycho ii and (2) psycho iv has a harley quinn/norman bates cameo and nobody can convince me otherwise
child’s play, child’s play 2, bride of chucky, maybe some sequels after that idk i haven’t seen them yet :(
scream franchise
not the mtv scream series
i mean s1 is decent but there are definitely other horror shows that i would recommend more (will show up later in this post)
1-3 are the best, 4 is worth watching if you really like the characters but as a concept the series has p much run its course by then
tw for rape mentions in scream 1 and 3
predator
peeping tom
kenneth branagh’s frankenstein (tw for a graphic depiction of death in childbirth)
james whale’s frankenstein
bride of frankenstein
the phantom of the opera (1925)
the phantom of the opera (1989) (tw for mild body/surgical horror, general grossness; personally speaking, this is one of my all-time favorite phantom adaptations, because 1. robert englund as the phantom hello oh my god, 2. although it’s much more of a slasher movie than a gothic romance, it does an amazing job of portraying the tragedy in erik’s backstory and his attraction to christine, without implying that he is entitled to christine’s affection and that her love will magically fix him, as some phantom adaptations do)
the phantom of the opera (1943)
alien franchise
the wolfman (2010)
darling (tw for rape)
house on haunted hill (original and remake)
final destination franchise
medium raw: night of the wolf (tw for pedophilia and child murder)
the babadook
the final girls [horror comedy]
the shining (tw for implied child abuse)
the cabin in the woods
hellraiser (tw for incest-y vibes for very brief periods of time)
heathers (tw for eating disorders, suicide, everything high school kids are insensitive assholes about)
from dusk til dawn
an american werewolf in london
the guest
it follows (tw for dubious consent)
nightwatch (tw for implied necrophilia/descriptions of necrophilia, self-mutilation)
re-animator (tw for rape, pedophilia mentions)
carrie (original) (tw for child abuse, religious iconography)
the remake had some interesting like... subtext/imagery but other than that it was pretty *wet fart noise*
the awakening
the craft
the blair witch project
honestly i loved the book of shadows: blair witch 2 bc it kind of parallels the crucible but i can admit that objectively it is Terrible
elvira, mistress of the dark [spooky comedy]*
american mary (tw for rape, (consensual surgical) genital mutilation)
fright night (original and remake)
jaws
listen. this is a horror movie. it was a horror book before that. it was specifically written and later adapted for the purpose of scaring and entertaining people. real life is nothing like this. real sharks are nothing like this. there’s nothing wrong with this movie scaring you but there is everything wrong with using this movie as an excuse to advocate for the wholesale slaughter of animals. sharks are quite possibly the most graceful and beautiful creatures on this earth and i will personally fight anyone who says otherwise
halloween franchise
1-5 are the best imo but no matter what skip #3 because it literally has nothing to do with any of the other movies
not the rob zombie remakes, those are awful
let the right one in [swedish (?) film, watch with subtitles]
rosemary’s baby (original)
night of the living dead (original)
28 days later
suspiria
silent hill (tw for child molestation)
crimson peak (tw for incest)
the lost boys
interview with the vampire
the ring
one missed call
the raven (2012)
repo! the genetic opera
teeth (tw for rape, incest, it’s??????? about a girl who literally has razor-sharp teeth in her vagina and it’s a very tongue-in-cheek commentary on religious repression???? so idk like it’s a wild ride and i love it but watch at your own discretion)
american psycho (tw for rape, general misogyny)
sweeney todd
speaking from experience, this is much better live, the movie sucked out all the fun and humor that wasn’t literally written into the lyrics, so i recommend watching the original broadway cast on youtube or something
there’s also a 1936 movie which i haven’t seen so i can’t speak to its quality BUT i would recommend it on the basis of it being made before the musical was created and thus being based more directly on “the string of pearls” novel which is where the sweeney todd urban legend was originally documented
abott and costello meet [insert universal horror monster here] [spooky comedy]
little shop of horrors (original and remake) [spooky comedy]
the last man on earth (1964)
adapted from the same book i am legend (2007) was adapted from but the last man on earth stays much closer to the original book imo
c. h. u. d.
ghostbusters (1984 and 2016 versions)*
ghost ship
sick girl (tw for bugs, pregnancy horror)
misery (tw for torture)
puppet master series (tw for rape, nazism)
the haunting in connecticut
zombieland**
jurassic park series
lizzie borden took an axe
wolf creek (tw for rape)
it (1990, 2017)
i have........ some nitpicky issues about putting it on this list, because neither movie adaptation really did justice to the whole concept of “derry itself is an extension of an eldritch horror and the real scary part of the story isn’t the clown, it’s the horrible violent tragedies that have repeatedly occurred and then been dismissed throughout derry’s history, leaving the entire town in a large-scale sort of cycle of abuse” so ????????????? idk like i truly do recommend reading the book as well as seeing the movies for The Whole It Experience(TM), but i totally get that not everyone is gonna do that
the 1990 version tells more or less the complete story, but because of that it didn’t have time to include a lot of fun details
the 2017 version only tells the childhood portion of the story, which leaves it time to include fun details. i was really hoping to see more of derry’s backstory or more development on mike and stan as members of marginalized groups -> how that influences their life in derry, but we didn’t get much of that? mike’s importance to the losers (researcher, somewhat of a skeptic/hardass at times to keep the others together) was removed, his healthy family dynamic was removed (mike, richie, and possibly stan are the only characters in the book with healthy family dynamics, somewhat underscoring the concept that derry itself is trapped in a cycle of abuse), and derry’s history of racism is never touched on aside from the kids mentioning “the fire at the black spot” a couple times in passing. overall it was a fun movie and you can tell everyone making it had a blast but compared to the book it’s like. mmmmmmmmmmmmm
BASICALLY what i’m saying here is that the book is really deep wrt social issues, and while neither movie really touches on those concepts in-depth, they are still good horror movies on their own and ofc a part of american pop culture
house of wax (1953)
marnie (tw for rape, abuse and coercion in a marriage dynamic, animal/pet death, graphic depictions of psychological abuse, graphic depiction of a violent death involving a child)
cabin fever (tw for sickness horror/body function horror/unsanitary horror, occasional slurs)
mega shark vs. giant octopus
i don’t even have a real reason for listing this i just can’t believe it exists and i want the whole world to know
texas chainsaw massacre (1974), texas chainsaw massacre 2, texas chainsaw 3d
ju-on: the grudge
phantoms
the plot is pretty ehhh imo but the effects are great; rose mcgowan is gorgeous as always, peter o’toole’s character is great, and ben affleck’s character lowkey has some batman circa arkham knight vibes going on. also, liev schrieber becomes a tentacle monster. i couldn’t make this shit up if i tried y’all
vamps*
this movie. this movie
krysten ritter and alicia silverstone are a couple of vampires, sigourney weaver is their hot mess of a vampire mom, dan stevens is krysten ritter’s boyfriend, wallace shawn is van helsing but he’s basically just vizzini: vampire hunter au and it’s GOLD
it’s literally the cutest and funniest vampire media i’ve ever seen in my life as well as one of the most detailed when it comes to vampire lore i cannot recommend it enough
bram stoker’s dracula
death becomes her**
what we do in the shadows**
disturbia
frankenstein (2004 miniseries, more like a 2-part movie than a tv show)
flatliners (1990) (tw for drug use, uncensored depictions of cadaver dissection)
the cabinet of dr. caligari
the limehouse golem (tw for sexual assault and csa)
repulsion (tw for sexual assault)
the trial (1962)
*spooky comedy: a comedy movie with a spooky premise that i am categorizing with horror movies due to the genre overlap, but that lacks the intense violence, gore, etc. of a horror movie
**horror comedy: a spooky comedy that does not lower the level of violence, gore, etc. that is standard in a horror movie
thrillers
stoker (tw for incest, has a scene in which the protag’s mother verbally abuses her)
m [german film, watch with subtitles] (tw for themes of pedophilia/child molestation/child murder, but it’s worth noting that the whole point of the movie is to condemn and demonize pedophilia)
also one of if not the very first detective movies
nightcrawler (tw for rape)
the vvitch/the witch/however the fuck it’s spelled
rear window (1954)
zodiac
hannibal lecter franchise (tw for cannibalism, obviously)-- the silence of the lambs, hannibal, red dragon, manhunter
manhunter is adapted from the same book red dragon is (red dragon) except manhunter was made before anthony hopkins became The Iconic Hannibal Lecter(TM) so it focuses much more on will graham and francis dolarhyde
hannibal rising is worth watching for gaspard ulliel’s performance but the book was much better
the hannibal movie adaptation changed the ending of the hannibal book while still maintaining a really good and really compelling storyline so the book and movie are definitely both highly recommended by me
gone girl
shutter island (tw for asylum horror)
pan’s labyrinth
tiger house
the champagne murders
the plot and pacing are a little ehhh; in my opinion there was too much tension buildup between characters and not enough actual plot development. BUT, anthony perkins is in it so it’s worth watching if you love him like i do
documentaries
cropsey (documentary on child murders)
urban legends (another documentary, by the same people, talks about how real-life crime affects the american psyche and lives on as urban legends/horror tropes)
the poisoner’s handbook
h. h. holmes
nightmares in red, white, and blue
his name was jason
never sleep again: the elm street legacy
american ripper [currently ongoing tv series]
television/youtube
bates motel
ahs s1 (tw for... literally everything)
slasher
similar basic premise as ahs, but imo ahs is v exploitative and builds the plot on violence and vice, whereas slasher builds the violence and vice on the plot
supernatural (LISTEN........ LISTEN....................... conceptually it’s the bees knees okay)
penny dreadful (tw for constant explicit sexuality, religious iconography/sacrilege, asylum horror)
criminal minds
bbc broadchurch
bbc river
bbc sherlock but literally only ep. 3.4 “the abominable bride”
rosemary’s baby (2-part made-for-tv movie)
unedited footage of a bear
marblehornets
true detective
frankenstein (2004 miniseries, more like a 2-part movie than a tv show)
tbs’ search party
podcasts
the black tapes podcast
small town horror
alice isn’t dead
king falls am [spooky comedy, more sci-fi than horror but there is One Episode that positively screams “love letter to 80s horror movies” so i can’t leave it out with good conscience]

Cake?
A/N
Hello all!
This was just going to be a little drabble that had been going through my mind based off of a text post from @alrightevans, but it became something longer (a LOT longer)
The text post this is based off of read:
“i just saw a thing on fb like ‘does somebody wanna be fake engaged to me for like 2 hours to try free wedding cake samples’ and im just…………………..imagine ur otp”
If I can find the actual post I’ll tag a link to this, but that’ll take a lot of work and you all know how lazy I am.
Depending on where I feel like leaving off, this might become a short series, I haven’t decided yet, and it depends on your feedback. (Scratch this part, I said fuck it and I’m posting the whole thing in one go. Sorry for the length, it’s over 3.2K words, whoops?)
As always, tagging those requested and whom I think would like, and enjoy!

“Y/N, Y/N c’mon get up, it’s noon already.” Bucky said wearily. He knew how scary Y/N could be when she was awoken before she wanted to be, and he had seen her hungover, but he didn’t want to find out how bad it would be when someone tried to wake her up when she was hungover and heartbroken.
“James Buchanan Barnes, if I roll over and open my eyes to see you in here, I will literally tear you a new one.” Y/N muttered, but it came out of her mouth more like a growl. She really didn’t need him bugging her, especially since she had found out just the night before that her boyfriend of two years had been cheating on her. Rather than being embarrassed or guilty about being caught with another woman, he asked her to stay and join in with him and the woman. But Y/N was angry, very angry. She didn’t fall into a heap of sobs and sadness, no, Y/N clocked him across the jaw, made the girl leave, and then stole all the alcohol in the apartment. After that she went home to the Avengers Tower and then fell into a heap of sobs and sadness, but with booze. Bucky and Steve found her later that night, after she had gone through three of the seven bottles she stole. They both decided it would be better to comfort the heartbroken assassin than try and stop her. After some time around bottle five, Y/N passed out, thus allowing Bucky to carry her to bed. He had to do it himself since Steve had left the two alone when Y/N finished bottle four. Carrying a fully grown woman by themselves would have been difficult for any normal person, and Bucky thanked his lucky stars for the serum.
“Y/N, you and I both know that wallowing in self-pity isn’t going to help you, and to be stark, you smell like hard liquor.” Bucky told her as he backed away slightly, knowing from first-hand experience that she could take him down just as easily as she could take down any normal person. “I know you’re hurting, but I have an idea that’ll cheer you up, and it involves food.” He bribed, hoping it would be enough. Bucky hated to see Y/N in pain, not only was she one of his best friends, but she was also the girl he was ridiculously in love with. He never thought he could have a chance with her, and he always knew that boyfriend of hers would hurt her one way or another. But after her break up, he knew he had to be her friend before a future boyfriend.
“You’re right; you’re alway right.” Y/N said and groaned, sitting up and against the pillows on her bed. “You didn’t happen to bring any Advil and water with you or anything?” She asked and wiped at her eyes to remove her crusty, day-old makeup. Y/N looked like shit, and she knew it too. She didn’t want to even look at Bucky, not knowing a lot of what happened the night before. But since the super serum burned through the alcohol in Bucky’s system faster than he could drink it, Y/N figured he remembered it all.
“It just so happens I do, and I ran you a bath.” Bucky told her with a smile as he handed her the glass and medicine. “So take these, take a bath, get dressed, and then meet me in the kitchen.” He told her before leaving the room.
Forty-five minutes later, after Y/N bathed, got dressed, and applied enough makeup to cover the circles under her eyes, she headed to the kitchen to meet Bucky.
“I hope you cooked something delicious and fatty because I’m starv-.” She said as she entered the kitchen, only to see the room empty. “Uh, Bucky?” Y/N called out called out as she wandered towards his room. As she went, she began to hear muffled talking, managing to figure out that Bucky was on the phone with someone.
‘What am I supposed to say, Nat? ‘Hey Y/N, I know you just broke up with your long time boyfriend and all, but I just wanted to tell you I’ve been in love with you for three years and I want you for myself.’ No way, not going to happen. She literally just got out of her relationship, and I don’t think she needs me throwing myself at her.” Bucky said into the phone, his back toward the door. Natasha called him about ten minutes after he left Y/N alone, and she hadn’t stopped pestering him to make a move. “Besides, I already have the day planned out. I’m going to make Y/N breakfast, then we’re going to go book shopping, and for lunch-” He began to explain his plans before turning around to see Y/N in the doorway. “Natasha, I’ll call you back later.” Bucky said before hanging up the phone. “Uh, hey Y/N, how- how much of that did you hear?” He asked her nervously. If she heard his proclamation of his love for her, he would surely be dead.
“Not much, just the part where you said you’re making breakfast, and then we’re going shopping.” She smiled. In actuality, she heard everything, but she didn’t want to ruin the moment. She really was famished.
Over the course of the following three or four weeks, Bucky kept Y/N occupied as much as possible. They went out to restaurants and shops, to fairs and carnivals, and to the movies and museums. Just after the first couple of days Y/N had already felt better, and she realized she was never really happy with her ex, not as happy as Bucky was making her anyways. Tony, Natasha and the rest of the team went on any missions that popped up, leaving the two lovebirds to enjoy a little break. Also, they had all set bets on who would make the first move, and when. One afternoon after Y/N and Bucky went out for breakfast, he told her that he had an idea for the day.
“Buck, I hate to say this, but I think we’ve exhausted all that New York City has to offer.” Y/N said with a laugh as she collapsed onto the couch. In truth, she never wanted their outings to end. The past weeks with Bucky had been some of the best in her life, and once they ended, she knew everything would go back to the way it was.
“Actually, Y/N, I have one more idea.” Bucky said in a sly tone, holding a small box in his hands. Inside was his mother’s engagement that Tony had miraculously found. Bucky didn’t ask how or why, because if he did, he knew he wouldn’t have liked the answer. “This is going to sound nuts, and say no if you don’t like it, but marry me.”
“What the hell are you getting at, James?” Y/N asked as she sat up, looking at the ring inside the box after Bucky had opened it. “You’re joking, right? This is crazy! I mean seriously this is psychotic.”
Bucky let out a small chuckle, sitting next to her. “You don’t have to actually marry me, but I saw this bakery that gives out free slices of cakes to engaged couples for their weddings, and I thought it would be fun to try it.” He told her. Y/N stayed quiet for a few moments, and Bucky began to worry. “Listen, Y/N, if you don’t want to do it, that’s fine, I just thought it would hel-”
“I love it. Let’s do it.” Y/N said, cutting Bucky off.
“Wait, really?”
“Yes! It sounds brilliant! And I could go for some cake.” She said excitedly holding her hand out for him. “Well? Are you going to put it on?” She asked in a teasing tone.
“Oh, right.” Bucky said and blushed, taking the ring out of the box before putting it on Y/N’s finger. “Fit’s like a glove.” He murmured, leaning forward slightly to tuck a tuft of her hair behind her ear.
“It’s beautiful,” Y/N said as her own face darkened with a bush from Bucky’s touch, gazing at the ring on her finger.
“It was my mother's; Tony managed to get ahold of it, I didn’t really want the details.”
“Bucky, no- I can’t wear this! You should save this for someone special.” Y/N said and went to take it off.
“Hey, you are special.” Bucky told her as he stopped her from taking the ring off. “Besides, what harm will it do by being out of that dusty box anyways?”
An hour later, after they figured out their whole backstory and future plans, the two ex-assassins headed out for free cake.
“Buck, you sure you want to do this? What if someone recognizes us?” Y/N asked nervously. Her hands began to get clammy, and she wondered if Bucky could feel it, since they were holding hands. Of course, it wasn’t only from her nervousness. She had began to have feelings for Bucky, but she wasn’t sure of whether to act on them, and if they were reciprocated.
“Y/N, don’t worry. If they question it, wondering why it wasn’t in the news, we’ll just say we wanted to keep it quiet.” Bucky told her with a smile, giving her hand a squeeze. “Everything’ll be okay, I promise.”
“Alright Buck, you wear the pants in this relationship.” Y/N smirked, squeezing his hand in return before heading straight to the doors. Bucky rolled his eyes but followed her inside. As the two of them walked up to the counter, whispers could already be heard about them.
“Don’t worry about them.” Bucky whispered into her ear. Just as they got to the counter, a friendly looking woman stepped forward from the back which Bucky assumed was the kitchen.
“Hello! My name is Joanie, how can I help you two?” The lady, Joanie, asked. She was quite elderly, most likely in her seventies.
“Hello, my fiance and I heard that you offer free cake samples to engaged couples.” Bucky started, flashing the woman a rather charming smile. “We were wondering if we could try a few? We want everything to be perfect for the special day.” To really sell it, and since it would be the only time he could do so without her slapping him, Bucky leaned in and pressed a kiss to Y/N’s cheek.
Y/N blushed deeply and looked at Bucky with a shy smile before turning back to the woman. “We’re planning it to be sometime around August, if that helps in any way.”
Twenty minutes later, Y/N and Bucky sat at one of the small tables to the side of the doors. In front of them were roughly a dozen slices of different cakes with different frostings. A few of the different cakes they tried included a lemon cake with a poppy seed filling, chocolate cake with a chocolate ganache frosting, coconut cake with rum frosting, red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting, raspberry cake with vanilla filling, and a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Bucky decided that the German chocolate cake with raspberry and chocolate ganache frosting, which he swore was the best thing he had ever had, would be his birthday cake until he died. Y/N liked that one as well, and they both asked for another slice.
“That, was amazing.” Bucky told Y/N with a big smile.
“Hell yes, how did you not find out about this sooner?” Y/N asked him teasingly, leaning against his side.
“Yeah yeah, I know.” Bucky chuckled. He gazed at the side of Y/N’s face, wanting to kiss her. She seemed to have zoned out, since it took him three times to say her name before she turned to look at him.
‘Huh? What?” She asked him. Bucky was laughing lightly, and she wasn’t really sure why. She liked when he chuckled, he seemed more carefree when he did, and the sound was soothing to her. She would be lying if she said she didn’t want to just lean forward and press her lips to his, and she knew he reciprocated her feelings, but she felt it would be better to do it when they were alone.
“I just wanted to know if you were ready to go. I think I could climb a building with all this sugar in me.” He told her as he stood up. “I’ll go leave a hefty tip and ask for a whole German chocolate cake.” Y/N laughed and nodded, watching him go.
Get a grip, Y/N. Y/N thought to herself, staring down at the table. It was neither the time nor place to tell Bucky about her feelings and jump his bones, but boy- did she want to.
Once back at the Tower, Bucky and Y/N went there separate ways for almost the rest of the evening before Y/n asked Friday to call Bucky up to her room. She was nervous, to say the least. What if he didn’t actually like her? What if he did, but she took too long, and he decided to just continue with their days out because he didn’t want to hurt her? Or worse, what if he told her he liked her back, then chickened out at the last second, telling her it was a prank? All the awful scenarios possible swarmed through her brain, and she wanted to back out, but it was too late. But it was too late; Bucky had just arrived at the door before Y/N opened it, his hand raised to knock on it.
“Were you waiting for my arrival?” Bucky asked in a joking tone, walking into her room. At seeing the weary look on Y/N’s face, Bucky frowned and stopped. “Hey, Y/N, what’s wrong?” He asked, his tone softer and kinder.
“Nothing, just zoned out for a minute.” Y/N said and smiled, snapping right back to herself. “Want to watch a movie?” She asked him and moved to sit on her bed, her back resting up against her pillows.
“Sure, what do you recommend?” Bucky asked and plopped down next to her, his arm moving around her waist.
“Beauty and The Beast?” She suggested, looking at his side profile. Bucky was a beaut, anyone could see that, but Y/N had noticed it more and more over the course of their time together. She began to truly see him for how he was; that’s why suggested Beauty and The Beast, she had hoped he would see how similar he and The Beast could be, like how they were both misunderstood and viewed wrong, and she hoped he would realize how much she truly cares for him, like Belle cared for the Beast, without all Disney drama of course.
“Alright, sounds perfect.” Bucky said with light smile. “Friday? Please put on ‘Beauty and The Beast’ in Y/N’s room.” He called out, his request soon followed by the beginning of the movie.
Once it was over, Y/N and Bucky had managed to cuddle closer, her head on his chest, his arm around her waist, with their legs tangled together underneath the blankets. Y/N was almost asleep, the steady rise and fall of Bucky’s chest was slowly relaxing her. She was almost completely out when Bucky suddenly shifted, trying to pull away.
“Hmm, Bucky?” Y/N opened her eyes, sitting up slightly. “What’re you doin’?” She asked, looking at him. He looked startled, as if he hadn’t expected her to be awake, which must have been the reason he was trying to leave. Y/N looked at the clock, shocked at the time. Was it twelve already? She thought to herself. She looked back at Bucky, who looked tired and beautiful at the same time.
“Thought you were already out,” He told her as he sat on the edge of her bed. “I was just going to head back to my room, get some sleep.”
“Don’t go,” Y/N said and smiled, scooting over so there was more space for him. “When did the movie end?”
“About an hour or so ago, you’ve been in and out the whole time.” Bucky said and smiled, moving back under the covers with her. In actuality, it had been more like two hours, but Bucky didn’t want to disturb Y/N, especially with how peacefully she slept. He knew sleep didn’t come easy to her- hell, it didn’t come easy to any of them- so he decided it would be better to let her sleep, even if it did mean his arm would go numb.
“Buck, you should’ve left when the movie ended if you didn’t want to stay,” Y/N said and smiled softly at him. “You don’t have to stay if you don’t want to, you know.” But, she did want him to stay, she wanted him to stay with her so she could finally tell him what they had both been waiting for.
“It’s okay, I don’t mind staying. Besides, your bed is warmer than mine.” He chuckled, his arms moving around her waist again. As Bucky laid there with Y/N, the only thing that was going through his mind was kiss her kiss her kiss her, she’s right there, kiss her kiss her. No matter how much he wanted to, he wouldn’t risk losing their friendship over his crush.
“Bucky,” Y/N said softly, her voice nervous and quiet. “I want to show you something, but you have to keep your eyes closed.”
“Okay, Doll. Just don’t do anything that’ll injure me.” Bucky said with a chuckle, his eyes shut tight. Y/N laughed at his little comment before she slowly moved forward, pressing her lips to Bucky’s for a slow, soft kiss. It took Bucky a moment to respond, but the next thing Y/N knew, her body was completely off the bed with her legs wrapped around Bucky’s waist as he kissed her back, his flesh hand on her cheek, his metallic one on her waist. He kissed her hard and fast, but he managed to keep his eyes closed the entire time. Once they both pulled away, needing air so they didn’t pass out, Bucky opened his eyes slightly. “If that kiss doesn’t mean anything to you, I need to know now, so I can leave and hide forever.” He told her breathlessly, the words I love you on the tip of his tongue.
Y/N laughed softly and kissed him again, this one short and soft. Once she pulled away, Y/N cupped his cheeks in her hands and rested her forehead against his, their noses brushing together. “I love you, Bucky Barnes. I’ve wanted to tell you that since I heard you tell Natasha you loved me over the phone.”
“Oh, thank god.” Bucky said and fell forward, trapping Y/N underneath his body as he kissed over her jaw and neck. “Say it- say it again- please.” He asked her in a desperate tone.
“I love you, I love you so much Bucky Barnes, I love you.” She said over and over, her hands winding through his hair to hold his lips against her skin.
“I love you, Y/N.”

X-post from r/datingoverthirtyThis is gonna be stupid long but I would appreciate any advice. I am also an overthinker, so I might digress on certain details.Backstory: So it's been about 5 years since I had a real relationship. Im 32 now and think I'm ready to start this whole stupid thing called dating lol. My previous relationship.. We dated for about 4 years, were good friends/co-workers for years before that. All in all it was an ok relationship. We hung out alot, did stuff together like go out to dinner alot, watched movies and TV together, had sex here and there, both sides of parents liked the other person, she did convince me to change my college major to something I had more interest into. The bad parts were she was very verbally abusive like never appreciated things I did for her, would look down on me for stupid stuff, and she hated most of my friends for some reason. I'm pretty sure she was just a closeted bipolar introvert 🤣 Near the end of our relationship we would fight on and off about little things. It finally came to an end when she lost her job because the company went out of business, she didn't like living at her parents anymore and wanted to move out of state. Myself at the time had my own apartment and a steady job. It got to the point where she decided to move out of state and tell me literally the day before she was moving. Before I knew of her plans, That night she came over, we had dinner, watched a movie and had sex, then she dropped the bomb on me. I told her if she was absolutely committed to our relationship I would have really considered moving with her. The company I worked for was nationwide so that wouldn't have been an issue. That was met with a "no thanks, I dont see that happening" and she pretty much left my apt after that and we never spoke again except for some happy birthday texts and short small talk texts a year later. Nothing was ever resolved in a closure type way. The only thing that I know now is that she married some guy down where she lives like a year and a half after our breakup. Im thinking she may cheated on me near the end, but never admitted to it. I had severe depression for about 2-3 years after that. I just basically put it in my head that she died and focused on work and hanging out with friends and going out to the bar and just having fun. I Just had a fuck bitches, get money attitude. Work, have fun, get drunk alot, repeat. There's been a couple girls since then that I have hung out with a few times, mainly Friends of Friends, one one night stand from a bar, may be hooked up with them a few times but nothing of substance. They all seem to have issues, I had the foresight to see at least they would be terrible in a relationship. Those interactions ended as soon as they started because they were crazy. Over the years being in sales help me develop a confidence to talk to almost anybody. I think I can start a conversation pretty well, carry a conversation, I think I'm pretty intelligent and have interesting things to talk about, have interest in many many topics. I do joke around but it's usually like sarcasm and topic based humor. I think I can be complimentative and charming when need be. Now my downfall is that I live by the expectation of a false sense that people will always do the right thing and be responsible and being someone who I can count on. Because I overthink sometimes I create a perception of an interest and it doesn't turn out to meet that expectation. I am also brutally honest at times when I shouldn't be. I run my mouth to get my way sometimes. I think it's related to being aggressive in my previous sales job. I've recognized this and I'm still working on it.Current situation:I frequent this bar a few blocks from my house. I've been going there on and off for about the last 6 years. It's the type of place that I usually go to like Friday and Saturday nights, there's people around my age and they play good music have a good food and drink specials. Usually go there with a group of friends as well whenever we feel like going out, any day of the week. I'm friends with the managers and about 80% of the staff, bullshit around with the owner bunch of times. The owner has directly told me that me and my group of friends are like family there and if we need anything to let him know anytime. Soo..There is a new girl (29 yrs old) that's been working there for about 3 months and I think she's pretty damn cute but never worked up the balls to talk to her. One night going there with my group of friends, it turns out my best friend's brother-in-law came with us. He knew her from back in the day and started catching up. To protect their identity, We'll call him umm 'James' and new girl 'Ashley'. Me and James have hung out maybe about 15 times, I really wouldn't consider him to be a good friend but he's an alright dude to hang out with. We all started talking with her and we all become Facebook friends. About a week later, we are all hanging out having a bonfire, drinking, just having fun. After about midnight, everybody went to bed except for James and I. We were just talking and bullshiting, I mentioned that I had a crush on Ashley. He half joked, "let's text her and see if she'll come over". So he did and she responded and said she would come over for awhile. James kept joking with me saying she was coming over so he could bang her. James has a girlfriend, but they have one of those relationships where they fight, breakup and make up like every 3 weeks. Currently on the 'off week's as I put it. He was mostly bullshitting me to make me jealous. She comes over and we all just sat around the fire and We stayed up till 5 a.m. Just talking and having fun. No bullshit involved. Just talking about everything including how her ex cheated on her recently with a couple girls, how her friends flake on her and how she used to have an office job and only works at the bar because it's fun. After she went home, James stayed in the spare bedroom as I was driving him home the next day.Next time I saw her at the bar, I mentioned that we had fun and we should hang out again. She mentioned she had plans on the following Saturday to go to this other bar that was having a couple country bands playing. It used to be a bar that I would go to a lot in the past and liked. I wanted a chance to hang with her so I agreed to go with her. I didn't really look at it like a date because she told me to invite some friends as well. That Saturday rolls around and I'm excited to see her. We text back and forth about meeting up and taking Uber there because we will probably be drinking. We decide to meet at this bar that her roommate works at, 830 pm. She also mentions that she's had a cold and a small fever. She called me about 6 and says she still wants to go but to give her extra time to get ready and take some medicine. So we push meeting up to about 9. I get to our meeting point at 9 and wait for her, she is 15 minutes late. Whatever no big deal. She shows up in a dress and smelling amazing, I compliment her. I pay for the first to Uber to the bar we were going to. We get there around 9:30, just walk around and she occasionally stops and talks to some random people she knew from there a while back. Small Talk catching up but she included me in the conversation. She introduced me as a friend. We check out some of the band's music, grab a couple drinks, dance a little.. she was flirty in the general conversations we had and at one point was talking selfies of us. We alternated paying for rounds of drinks and shots, I was only kind of buzzed. I'm sure she was too, but I don't know her tolerance like I know mine.2am rolls around and we get Uber again on her phone because mine died, she said let's get food and hang out at my house. We pick up taco bell and take a 20 min Uber back to her place (very close to my house as well). We are sitting together in the back and after about 5 minutes, she lays on me and I put my arm around and just caress her arm. We get to her place, We eat and were hanging out and just listening to Pandora on her living room tv. Had maybe another beer there and just talking and occasionally dancing terribly. We got to one point where I was sitting on the couch and she was in the recliner next to it. I get up and pull her over to the couch, we talked for a minute and I felt it was right to try to kiss her. I gently grabbed her face and tried to pull her in for it. She backed away and said she didn't want a relationship and wasn't looking to hookup. I said ok, I'm sorry I just thought it felt right. I held her hand and just told her I wanted to show her a guy can take her out for a fun time and she deserves better. At right around this point, her roommate comes down for food or something and we just start shooting the shit about sports and stuff. Ashley is like I still don't feel good and I'm tired, takes some cold Medicine and tells me I can sleep on the couch. I was like you have a couple dogs and they are probably gonna bug me all night, I might just go home. Her roommate jokes that Ashley has a king size bed and that she should share. I don't think it was a push to hook her up or anything. Ashley says "yeah you can share the bed with me but no funny business". We go in the room and I want to be respectful. She was laying in plain clothes (t-shirt and jeans). I'm laying next to her on my stomach still in my clothes as well but wide awake. It's a dark room and maybe I felt invincible in what I was saying. I started joking with her that she couldn't fall asleep because I was wide awake. Then I said "I meant what I said earlier, you deserve better. Better friends, better relationships, a better job." I dont really know why I said it, but I always fall for broken girls and think I can fix them or make their life better. I still joked around and then asked if she reconsidered that funny business. She was like "what do you mean, we're not having sex". I said "no, nothing like that maybe just making out. I don't know, I'm half joking". She was like "no, I'm about to fall asleep" and did almost instantly. I laid there for about 20 minutes while she fell asleep. I was literally still wide awake and didn't want her to be weirded out with me in the morning. I order an Uber on my phone back to my car. Sober by now. The Uber arrives and I wake her up and tell her I'm just going to let her get sleep because she is sick. She walked me to the door and we hug. I said "I had fun tonight and I'm sorry for being forward earlier". She said "it's okay maybe I lead you on some how".I don't really worry too much about it except for the end of the night being sort of a creeper. Monday rolls around and the bar is having a birthday celebration for one of the older bartenders. I'm friends with her so naturally I go up after work (10pm ish) with my best friend, his wife, his brother I hang with alot ('Mark') and their cousin ('Andrew').We are watching Monday Night Football and having a couple drinks and just celebrating the whole birthday thing. Ashley is there with a friend of hers, I don't really say anything to her for awhile. She said hi to me in passing I took that chance to talk to her for a few minutes. Everything seemed okay. The staff there decided they wanted to close around 1 to go to the casino afterward for the bartenders birthday. They start closing down and Ashley started to help them with some cleaning. All the staff was almost ready to go, but they changed their mind on the casino and said they were going to a strip club that the bar owner had buddies that worked at and and asked if any of our friends wanted to go. I said no I don't have money for that, I'm just going home. The bar owner said "don't worry about that, they are only open for like another hour. Just bring your friends and I'll get you in for free and I'll buy some beer for you guys". My best friend and his wife went home because they were tired and had to work in the morning. I was off the next day so I agreed to go. Me, Mark, and Andrew went in Andrews car and met them there. So when we get in, it's my group I came with, the birthday bartender, 3 other bar staff members, the bar owner, Ashley and her friend. We just hang around at this table, drinking a couple beers, joking around, making paper airplanes out of a stack of dollars and shooting them at the girls there lol. Just good old fun. No one got lap dances or anything. They close like an hour or so after, Ashley offers for people to come to her house to hang out. Not really to party, just hang out or sober up or sleep.Everybody except for the bar owner and birthday girl go over to the house. We are all hanging out in this basement just having another drink, listening to music and talking. I don't really talk to Ashley, because I'm letting her do her host thing and I didn't want to bother her. I was also drunk as hell from doing shots and drinking beer and I didn't want to do or say something stupid. About 45 minutes, Somehow some of the guys that work at the strip club come over and thought it was a party. They showed up with a bunch of weed, cocaine and Hennessy and a stripper chick. At this point, the bar co-workers leave. I do a couple Henny shots with one of the dudes. Ashley asks me to come upstairs and talk real quick. She takes me in her room and asked who those people are and how they got the address. I said I don't know. She said "maybe I'm naive but I've never been in this situation. I don't know them and I don't want them here, will you help me get them out of here?" I said sure, I'll see what I can do. Literally at that moment, everyone is upstairs now in the living room. We hear a loud bang in the bathroom. There is my friend Mark basically blacked out in the bathroom and he pissed himself. I'm pissed off that I have to babysit him and embarrassed that Ashley had to deal with that. Andrew and I agreed that we should probably take Mark home. I'm moving Mark into the living room when I see Ashley hanging around the strip club guys. They had a plate with Coke lines on it. Ashley had the plate in her hand but handed it off to the guy and said I'm good for now. I'm thinking she was offered some and refused. In the process of Andrew and I getting mark out of the door to the car, Ashley starts being really obnoxious and anxious repeating herself and saying that we can all just stay there and it's ok. Andrew and Mark are outside by this point. I said no we're just leaving. She kept being really anxious and I asked her why are you so wound up and anxious. I look into her eyes and they're open really wide and she utters I just did some coke. Me being drunk, I almost over react because it's a jarring situation and she's told me she's only done it like twice in her life. The girl I like and have a crush on is doing drugs after asking me to help get rid of those type of people. I asked her if we could speak in private and she refused. She said she would text me tomorrow. I later found out she said she was feeling overwhelmed with the situation and that's why she did it. I gave her a really sarcastic 'have a good night' and left.We go back to my house and everyone goes to bed. I'm in my room and I'm fucking boiling pissed at this point. I think all the liquor hit me and I overreacted and I couldn't contain myself. I got on my phone and I texted her. I went on this mini rant about how I was disappointed in her and if she was going to do drugs I didn't want to know her. I told her that's not my life or scene, that my friends don't do shit like that. Also saying I was disgusted in her decisions and how I was pissed that she asked for my help and then basically did the opposite. That maybe I built up an image of her in my head and it was wrong. I fall asleep. I woke up around noon the next day to an essay long text with terrible grammar and no punctuation at all. She basically yelled back at me and shamed me for making her out to be a horrible person and that I don't know her or what she's been through. That she's never been in a situation like that and felt overwhelmed and that's why she asked for my help. But then even said I'm probably just overreacting because I was drunk. I text her back and apologize, run some damage control saying it was just coming from a good place. She then almost brushed it off like it wasn't a big deal, blaming it on that I was drunk and probably didn't get good sleep the night before.I don't talk to her for about 3 days and then see her at the bar when I went up there. That night she saw me only said hi and only that. I was going to try to talk to her but she left early and took another female co-worker home.I text her something to the effect of "do you still hate me? I just don't want you to think I'm a complete asshole. I really was only looking out for you..let's talk sometime". The next night I go up there with some friends to hang out. She's working again. She said hi to me, sorry I didn't reply to your text I wanted to but I was busy all day. I just pulled her into me and hugged her and said I'm sorry. We then had random conversations throughout the night for like a few minutes at a time. Not mentioning what happened but just talking about different things. The bar closes at 2 but my friends wanted to leave at 1 to go have a bonfire and drink at the house. I invite two of the bartenders that were off already earlier that I know back and Ashley. They all said yeah we'll come over after everybody gets out of here. Ashley said she was kind of tired but would probably come. 330am rolls around no one shows so I'm like whatever man, I tried. My best friend's wife and one of her friends Uber up to this 24-hour diner nearby while me and besty stay at the house. Guess who's up at the diner? Ashley with some other co-worker. Best friend's wife went up to her and said "I thought you were coming over". Ashley said no I'm tired and just wanted food. Have not seen or talked to her since then. The other two bartenders text me in the morning and apologized for not coming saying they were too drunk and went home. I'm ok with that.So anyways in talking with many of my friends about this. I've gained some perspective on what I want in a relationship. I know I want all the right things, to do the right thing and to have someone that will provide support I can count on. It's just hard not knowing if I should continue pursuing Ashley or to move on. I know I fucked up I overreacting to the situation earlier in the week. I just don't know how she feels about the entire thing. I find myself staring at her picture because she's so damn beautiful. She has cute tendencies and surprisingly is kind of shy. I just don't know if it's really being shy and there's so much more to learn, or if she is truly something like a drug addict and manipulative or or she's just a broken soul and I feel like I have to fix it. That's my overthinking issue. This shit stresses me out.Tl;dr: Ex was a shitty bitch that fucked me up and now I had a decent "date" with a new girl but drunkenly overreacted to a recent drug use. Wat do? via /r/dating_advice

The day that I had been waiting on most! Beijing- The Great Wall of China!!!
*After barely sleeping at all, my driver picked my up that a friend had arranged for me! He spoke great english and was born and raised in Beijing. I was in the lobby waiting for him at 6 am sharp. I gave them back my hotel room key and happily checked out of that horrid hotel. I even took a picture with the hotel as my background to post on trip advisor to warn other foreigners haha... Anyways, Matthew was my tour guides name. He was so nice. He gave me a great talking tour on the 1.5 hour drive to the Wall from my hotel by the airport. I told him I was hungry because breakfast didn't open for another hour at the hotel.
*We went to a very authentic Chinese Restaurant for breakfast. He ordered me dumplings and porridge, which is what everyone else was eating, too. It was crowded and everyone stared at me during every bite I took! It was interesting. I saw a blue and orange colored dog even. The food was good but there was so much! Luckily, Matthew got me a to-go bag. We took a couple pictures at the restaurant and headed back to the car. He was nervous about car theft in that area so he kept walking out to see the car. That much be common in that area? I don't know. I was a little scared to ask those questions because I didn't want him to take it personally!
*All of the trees are painted with white cement on the bases to stop bugs from ruining them in the city. The air was smoggy, even though it was a sunny day. People drive like crazy people. Police don't roam streets, only come out of their office when someone calls in an emergency. Foreigners are not as welcome as I was expected! All interesting things I was seeing.
*So we arrive at the wall and he makes sure to park close to the guard shack in the parking garage--so again, I was wondering about theft! We go to buy tickets and it was 180 Yuan. Which is like $30. That included parking, cable car ride up, access to the wall, and toboggan sled down. Pretty good deal overall because it was a blast!!! I shopped the street a little bit, but the ladies were driving me crazy haggling prices. I looked at one lady and said, “how dumb do you think I am, I would Never pay $50 for a hat.” YES, You heard that correctly. She wanted $50 for a baseball hat that said Beijing. I laughed and walked away.
*The cable car ride up took about 15 minutes and was beautiful. It was early morning and not crowded, so we were able to relax and take our time. We hiked over 4 of the guard shacks, which equaled out to about 2 miles on the wall and 2 miles back!! Straight up and down stairs. My legs were burning more than spending one hour at the gym! He gave me a great history lesson on the wall. I wish I was able to remember more but I was breathing so heavy that I was hardly paying attention hahaha! Tip: Take a bottle of water (don't drink the water in China, only bottled) My pictured turned out incredible that Matthew took of me! He took them on his phone though so I was nervous about getting them from him somehow because of the strict internet policies of China. It ended up taking him a week to get a hold of me through my friend and I downloaded a chat app from China just to be able to save the pictures! Glad I got them though!
*So after the wall, we were exhausted and ready to head back to meet my driver who was going to drive me to the airport. Matthew had to do another Wall tour after me. I don't know how he was going to have the energy. Anyways, We came to the Toboggan sleds and he made me read the rules for it. Go slow, No stopping. Etc. So I get on after he gets a head start and we take off. Boy, those things sure go fast. I tried taking videos and pictures but I had to pay attention to not wreck off the face of the mountain!! It was so fun. I have-not smiled and laughed that hard in a long time!
*After reaching the bottom, we headed back to the parking garage. Luckily, the car was still there as well as all my luggage! The driver pulled up in a brand spanking new government official car. I felt like royalty. Apparently, it was one of Matthew’s friends who was doing him a favor of dropping me off at the airport! The ride was quiet because the new driver man spoke no english at all. All I understood was “Ne Hao” which is “How are you” in Chinese! After 1.5 hour drive back to the airport, I made it safely and paid for my tour. It costed 600 Yuan which is less than $100. I thanked him and headed inside to find my check in counter.
*By this point, it was around 1pm and I was hungry. I ate my leftover breakfast for lunch and it was great still. I got my boarding pass rather quickly and headed to my gate to sit and wait for my plane at 4pm to Bali! I was exhausted. No sleep for 2 days. Plane rides. Great Wall hiking. Stress of being alone in another country. No wifi. Worried that mom and dad are panicking. ETC! So after I get settled down in a seat by my boarding gate, I asked a Chinese girl sitting next to me if she spoke english. She said yes! I asked her about the wifi and she was able to connect me through her iPhone’s hotspot. (Her name was Lao)! I could not get anything to work on my phone even using her wifi, except AOL mail!!! Who knew that AOL mail would save the day for me in China!
*I logged in and thankfully I remembered Keefe’s, mom’s, and dad’s email addresses to send them an email saying IM ALIVE! Keefe has his connected to his smart phone so he saw the notification immediately. We were able to chat on there for about an hour before I boarded my flight. He was relieved and apparently everyone who talks to me frequently was freaking out! I had him message everyone and tell them I was OK and explain the wifi situation in China again. It was so cute seeing how worried he and everyone was. It made me feel extra loved. I also made a friend named James from Vietnam! He was headed to Canada for a 3 month internship. His english was amazing. I forgot to get his contact info though, but we wished each other well before we parted ways. I stuck with Lao all the way until we were on the plane! She was going to Bali too but I had no clue the details of her trip because her english was not that great. Just good enough to communicate! We took come super cute photos together as memories!
*After boarding the plane, somehow I lucked out with no one sitting next to me so I was able to crunch up and lay down in the empty seat. The flight was 8 hours to Bali from Beijing! China Eastern Airlines fed us and had great service again. (Still my favorite airline). I actually slept about 5 out of the 8 hours, not solid sleep but better than none!
*When we landed in Bali, it was raining hard and Charity and the Anulekah driver was there waiting on me.
Next blog: BALI!!!!!

2016 Year Of Sequels, Prequels and Remakes?
So here we are in 2017, I have just come back to a post I wrote last year! I will be adding to this blog post as to whether anything has changed, whether the movies came out and general reviews. Watch this space.
Rings (The Ring 3, The Ring 3D)
Rings is going to be a different storyline, it is going to focus on the little girl who terrorizes the people who have watched the video tape. Rings is going to be mainly about Samara and why she did the things she did. It will breathe new life into the franchise. Slight recap of the beginning of this franchise The Ring (first film) is all about the video tape and how you watch it and you have 7 days before you die. It also surrounds Rachel a reporter who is researching about this video tape and how to stop it. Then The Ring 2 focuses 6 months after the mayhem of the videotape and deaths and brings you to more clues, and more light on the origin's of this tape. With Rachel still investigating it.
The Conjuring: The Enfield Poltergeist
The ghost hunting due are back this time focusing on a family in England. Again its a lovely little family who gets haunted by supernatural phenomena, this tells the story of the Hodgsons and their children who see/experience with their bedroom furniture shaking and things flying around. This is based on a true story I do seriously enjoy horror by James Wan and so glad he is back doing the second one.
The Purge: Election Year (The Purge 3)
Frank Grillo is back (survivor of The Purge: Anarchy). He played a man wanting to get revenge of the man who killed his son. But things got in the way, he saved a couple of woman, then got kidnapped, then when he finally got to purge the man who killed his son he changed his mind, then getting shit at and ended up getting saved by the man he was going to purge. Here's the happy little ending. Now he is back playing a man who is head of security for Charlene Roan a senator who is front runner for presidential election. I have seen the trailer there isn’t much to go on. But looks pretty good.
Friday The 13th
This is a sequel to the remake series of Friday The 13th franchise beginning in 2009. There is not much information on this as yet. It is still in development. Its got me thinking when is enough enough? Will still be watching it just in case it is better than the first one in 2009. But not holding out much hope.
Cabin Fever
So we are getting a remake of Eli Roths 2002 film Cabin Fever. This is right after Cabin Fever: Patient Zero comes out. I have seen the trailer and have to say it is VERY similar to the original. But here is hoping something better to go by in another trailer or the film itself. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE nothing more than disgusting viral body horror. But I will give this movie a chance, this is again of the flesh eating bug terrorizing teens who have gone on vacation in a cabin in a secluded woods.
The Blob
The blob will be getting a remake. The original was remade in 1988 of the first classic in 1958 and word is going around that this year there will be another remake. Yay. It actually sounds so interesting. I have not actually seen the original nor the remake but will be giving them a chance and watching both 1958 and 1988 before watching the second remake. This sounds like something I would watch, So there is a alien blob going around killing and consuming everything and everybody in its path. I can’t comment further but I do have to say I am rather psyched. All I know it has Samuel L Jackson in.
Ouija 2
Ouija 2 will be getting a sequel, ITs still in development, what what I do know is that Lin Shaye (The Grandmother Of Horror) is back. No plot and all new cast? The first one told the story of the first one, where a woman finds an Ouija board in her attic and starts to play with it and then strange supernatural goings on happen and she ends up being possessed and killing herself. Her friend finds it and wants to contact her and end up releasing a demon which goes by the name/alias of “Hi Friend”. The end up dying one by one and Laine Morris researches and ends up seeing a elderly woman in a home who spins her a few details of what’s going on. Well it seems the plot is open to suggestions, I reckon this will be the other side of the story, flashes back to when it all started.
Amityville: Awakening
Admit it you have also been looking forward to the next installment of this franchise? This time it focuses on Belle, her younger sister and he comatose twin, the children and their single mother move into the infamous Amityville house. Soon after things begin to happen, unexplained things, supernatural, and then the comatose boy wakes up. Something is wrong, they all feel it. Belle reckons her mother knows more than she is letting on.
Underworld 5:
Shes backkkk! Kate Beckinsale is back playing Selene in the 5th instalment of Underworld. The plot is not known yet. But will be out this summer/ or October. There is a few dates flying around. In the last underworld a new species was made, half breeds created by Alexander Cornivus and everyone lives in peace. To be honest again I haven’t seen any of the underworld films, which I am surprised about considering I LOVE Kate Beckinsale. But at least I still have time to catch up.Rumours And Hear’say
Unfriended 2
Not exactly surprised there is another one. This time Blaire falls into a deep depression. Bullied by the fact she caused Laura’s death. This is still in preproduction.
The Overlook Hotel
Anyone else been looking forward to this? Its still in pre production but there is a lot of speculation of whether it is connected to, prequel of The Shining (1980).
Sharknado 4
Holy crap another one? Not much information but here is hoping for Betty White to be in it.
The Strangers 2
Liv Tyler returns as Kristen McKay. But only as a minor role. But you be pleased to know the three masked villains are returning to terrorize a family or four as they get evicted from their home.
I know What You Did Last Summer
Coming in 2017. A remake of the 90s classic horror I know What You Did Last Summer. Starring Mercedes McNab (Buffy, Hachet).
Annabelle 2
Annabelle 2 is in development. In my opinion the first Annabelle ended so well to set up a second film.
2 Lava 2 Lantula Cujo: Canine Unit Joint Operations Leatherface IT Rumoured as having Will Poulter in. Remake of Stephen Kings 1990. Saw: Legacy Pet Semetery Martyrs Jeepers Creepers 3: The Cathedral Rabid

Kelly-Anne & Cody’s Love Story
The Meet: Once upon a time, in Calgary, AB, there was a boy and girl who met outside Aberhart Highschool. The boy drove a Jeep and on that day in autumn of 2005 he gave the her a ride home from school. It was not love at first sight, in fact it was quite the opposite, he thought she was spoiled and she thought he was a jerk. They came from what seemed like 2 different worlds. However, one night while at a party they ended up sitting alone together and began to talk. What they soon realized was that they had many things in common, they had the same birthday, (WHHATTT) they both loved watching The O.C (still do ;) ) and their favourite song at the time was James Blunt – “You’re Beautiful.” They spent hours talking that night and their friendship grew from there. She soon realized he wasn’t a jerk, he could make her laugh till she cried, and he realized she wasn’t spoiled, she was loving and cared deeply about the people in her life. As the months went by their feelings started to grow from friendship into something deeper and on a freezing cold New Years Eve night (2006-2007), they finally admitted their attractions to each other.
The First Date: It was Valentines Day, the most cliche romantic day of all time, and thats the day they decided to have their first date, just to really put the pressure on and make them both incredibly nervous. She raced home from school because he was going to pick her up and take her out, she needed to get ready and look her best and she didn’t have much time. As she straightened her hair and fixed up her makeup in the bathroom, she asked her little sister to sit at the window and tell her when he arrived. She soon heard her sister yelling “he’s here, he’s here! And he has flowers!” She took a deep breath and tried to pry the giant smile off her face as to not look like a complete dork. He walked up her front steps, flowers in hand, feeling more nervous than ever before. She opened the door and there he stood, with 12 beautiful red roses, looking as adorable as ever. He looked at her and smiled, she had red lips and a red head band in her hair for valentines day, he felt excited to finally be going out with her. She took the flowers and put them in water and they left together, nervously driving to the restaurant called “Green Olive.” She was so nervous she just picked at her food, eating slowly, trying to not to get any pasta on her face, while he did the same, praying he wouldn’t drop any into his lap. They laughed and talked and eventually began to relax, having a wonderful first date. Though this was their first date, they did not become “Official” until March 4th, 2007. As they sat together on his couch, in his basement, arms wrapped tightly around each other he turned to her. He kissed her on the lips, looked into her eyes and asked her if they could officially become boyfriend and girlfriend. She smiled, felt the butterflies in her stomach fluttering around, kissed him back and said she would love to. And that began the love story of Cody Steele and Kelly-Anne McGillis.
Over the next 10 years the boy and girl started to grow up together, they became a woman and a man. They would have the best conversations and sometimes talk about the dumbest things and just laugh and laugh. They would tease each other relentlessly, and they balanced each other out in all the most important ways. They travelled together, from Mexico to Arizona, to Montana and to the East. They lived in many different homes together in Calgary, from the south to the north, and eventually found themselves in Cochrane, where they plan to spend the rest of their lives together. They spent as many weekends as possible driving to the mountains, spending their summers in Fairmont BC. This place became a second home to both of them, they planted trees, mowed lawns, renovated cabins, built fire pads and went rafting on one or two occasions. This is where they chose to say their vows, a place that will always be there for them.
Well, my heart is melted. Off to go guzzle rosé and eat heart shaped bon bons.
